Possible hardware failure? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

For the longest time I've been using Scott's Clean ROM ACE on my Note 2. About a week ago, My WiFi started acting up. It would stop working (Stay connected, but not work) so I tried turning it off then back on (then Wireless) and it would just sorta freeze, Saying "Turning off Wifi" Only way I could get it back was to pull the battery, And when it turned back on... Id try to turn Wifi back on, and it would just say "Turning on Wifi" would continue saying that, And the button would go back to "off" but it would still say turning on Wifi, I tried completely resetting it, worked for the most part, but my phone would be really laggy and sometimes the Back and menu buttons or whatever would not work, Or they would lag really bad. So I ended up trying a new ROM, And it did the same thing with the Wifi... I cleared everything, Tried with my SD card, Tried without... same issue.
So, is this a hardware issue or a ROM / Driver issue? I tried the Team Asylum CM10 ROM, And even tried resetting my Clean ROM ACE.. Still no luck. What would be the issue here? My phone has never been dropped, Or got wet... Or been in extreme heat or cold.

Hmm it doesn't sound good but just to be sure I would do a complete flash back to stock with Odin to see if that solves your issue.
Otherwise it could be a motherboard issue, since all the things you're talking about are separate components on the board. It isn't like the Wi-Fi is somehow tied to the keys, so it could be something as simple as a bad resistor.

So I tried resetting it back to AT&T and nothing, The WiFi still isn't working. It'll be off, I try turning it on... It'll say turning on wifi... For a while, Then the switch thing goes back to "off". Sometimes it'll be greyed out and I can't do anything. So I dunno what to do now.

Any warranty?
Check your flash counter to see if it is tripped. If you used odin and flashed back to stock and the issue persists, then it is hardware. Make sure the flash counter is not tripped and send it in for repair

Weird thing is, I can get the Wifi to work after a while. I did reset the flash counter. Should I try flashing a custom ROM again and seeing if it works?
EDIT: I flashed Scott's ROM 5.0 after doing a flash counter reset and everything is working fine now. I wonder if that is something Samsung does... Or if maybe something got corrupted.

Reboot Loop NEW FINDINGS

Hey guys, my gnex has just been stricken (for the second time) by the boot loop. Managed to fix it last time with a flash of the google image, but this time it isnt working.
Same as usual, mine features the greyed out wifi toggle as well, and reboots every time the screen goes off (which makes sense that I've been noticing it go off every 2 minutes).
I have found that the device will not reboot if it is plugged in and set in the dev options to "stay awake" while charging. This seems to keep it running, same if I set the time-out to longer. My theory has to do with the distribution of power...I think that something is telling the phone it doesn't have enough power to function.
Like everyone else I've done endless factory resets, flashed the goog image and such and such to no avail. Currently stock but I left my bootloader unlocked atm. I can still boot into recov and everything and even flash other roms.
Has anyone else noticed this, or could someone who is also having the problem confirm the screen thing?
I think last time I posted I was on winmo, missed this forum.
Bump? Anyone else having this issue?
Just send it in for warranty. I sent mine in and Samsung exchanged the phone
I havent been paying attention, are many people having this issue? It sounds scary. Were you on a custom rom when this started?
My Nexus has been stuck on "Turning WiFi on.." since I've had it. It would also constantly boot loop itself whenever the screen went off. I flashed the new AOKP build to avoid this issue, however, the WiFi still does not work If I'm ever on stock again, I'll give stay awake a shot.
I live in the U.S. with the GSM GNex, so warranty is out of the question unfortunately.
Fixed the loop by flashing aopk again with franco's kernel. Brilliant but my Wifi is still messed up. I flashed a new baseband XXKL1 and no improvements. I'm gonna just wait it out for a bit because I've seen some threads elsewhere where that has actually worked, but who knows. I'll probably cave and send it out soon.

Yes and no. It happened twice and the second time I fixed it by going FROM stock to AOPK with included kernel. Now it happened on THAT setup so I went back to stock and no dice. Its a very weird problem....
I got exactly the same problem. Wifi didn't work (grey toggle) so I tried to bring the warranty conditions back, but got an endless boot each time screen goes off.

Try booting into the bootloader and using the gnex toolkit to go back to stock and relock. Good luck. Logcat isnt even logging my wifi issues, its like my wifi adapter was removed entirely.

That's what I did, I used the toolkit to go back to stock and after that I got those annoying reboot. Of course wifi doesn't work anyway... That's really frustrating

I have a Desire Z by my side, but of course I want my Gnex back as new. The only thing that scares me is the warranty. I'm not sure if it's still valid. I mean, apparently there's no sign of root/bootloaderunlocked, but how can I explain that suddenly my phone has started rebooting itself without any reasons?
Yeah, only option is to just try and see what happens.

Galaxy S3 Wifi Issues

Hi
I got a used galaxy S3 for cheap, but wifi was not working on it. Turns out it was the antenna cable inside the phone, so I replaced that part, but it still didnt work. I downgraded the software from 4.1.1 to 4.0.4 (via ODIN), and wifi worked, so I left the phone alone for a few hours. Then I started using the phone and downloaded a few apps then all of a sudden wifi stopped working, and the phone won't connect anymore. Tried rebooting, reflashing, going to *#0011# and turned off wifi power saving mode, but still didnt work. WHen I enable wifi or bluetooth, the I/O switch gets greyed out and it just says "Turning On..." . Anyone know what the issue is? Could it be a hardware problem (wouldnt think so because it worked for a bit).
thanks!

Kernel issue. WiFi drives are built into the kernel. Flash anoher stock kernel if your on stock or flash aosp kernel if not on stock

I'm experiencing similar trouble with my s3 the wifi never turns on. I've only started having this issue since I got a factory reset done because of some other trouble and now I'm sick with this new issue.
Did you find anyway to fix it yet. 923

The WIFI on my phone will NOT turn on

I know there are a bunch of threads like this, and I've searched through a BUNCH of them, but either no one was having the same exact problem is me or the answer just wasn't there, so I'm still having the issue.
The WIFI on my phone will not turn/stay on. When I go to turn it on, it looks like it MIGHT turn on, but then switches back to off. It does this repeatedly. Sometimes, after rebooting my phone, I'll turn it on and it will stick in the on position and just say "turning wifi on" forever.
I have tried different ROMS, tried different kernels, tried going back to stock through ODIN, then I found out through another thread that I could use KIES, Samsung's offical software, to go back to the actual offical updated stock release and maybe that'd help. WIFI still is still doing the same exact thing - not working.
I can't think of anything else to do, or any other options I might have, I'm lost. Please help.
edit - I have a 16gb Galaxy S3 T-Mobile SGH-T999.
What are you currently running? Baseband? Build?
Use Odin (I hate kies!) To flash the full stock firmware. Either flash the same or newer build of firmware as what is currently on the device.
After this test again and if its still not working boot into STOCK recovery and factory reset, then reboot and test again.
At this point you'll be 100% full, official, stock. So if it still isn't working it will most likely be a hardware issue. You can open it up to make sure the antenna is connected, but aside from that I'm afraid you'll be out of luck. (You can probably find a decent used motherboard or T999 with a broken screen fairly cheap on eBay.)
Sorry I don't have anything better for you. Good luck with it!

It must be a physical problem. I've got the phone open and it looks like I'd be able to figure out how to put in a new working piece, just not exactly sure which one is the wifi antenna.
The WiFi antenna is the wire that runs down one side.

Last ditch effort to fix wifi SGH=M919

Hello,
I have spent many hours attempting to solve the ongoing problem of the wifi button not responding but remaining gray when touched. Here is a quick chronology of symptoms and attempted fixes. I love everything else about the phone, especially the size, but am close to throwing my hands into the air. If anyone has any suggestions as to a Rom that may finally fix this, please let me know!
Wifi worked fine on phone for about 6 months, then became unreliable, not connecting after being out of range and coming back into range of wifi stations. I was usually able to force it to come on by a reset, pulling battery, turning off mobile data and calling *#0011# and turning wifi power saver off and on several times.
After this would no longer work, I rooted phone with CF-Auto-Root-jfltetmo-jfltetmo-sghm919.tar.md5 , was able to use wifi for a day or two, then nothing would force it on.
Tried multiple custom roms, including CM11 kitkat and CM12 Lollipop, same results, I would originally get wifi to fire up and connect, but after a day or two max, nothing.
Have flashed stock kernel for modem, nothing.
Took back of phone off, unplugged and plugged in blue antenna wire, nothing.
Recently flashed M919UVUFNH7_STOCK_ROOTED_DEODEX_KNOXLESS along with NH7_modem.tar.md5, wifi worked a little while, and as usual, wont respond to any resets, battery pulls, etc.
Thanks for any help you may be able to afford.
ive been having the same issue or a month or so now... cant seem to find a sulution anywhere. I too tried multiple roms, even the new 6.0 . I cant imigine its the wifi antennae because it works fine when it wants to... gettin frustrated with it.

I have a suggestion. Use the following link to get latest T Mobile firmware for the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=
Sometimes it takes flashing the firmware twice for the full install of the radio to take properly.
To begin, remove the back of the phone, because your going to remove the battery after the first flash.
Boot into download mode by holding the volume down and power.
Assuming you know how to use Odin, before starting the first flash, unchecked the auto reboot option.
After Odin has reached the point of RESET, unplug the cable, remove the battery... Replace the battery, reboot into Download mode and
repeat the process, leaving auto reboot checked this time.
You are now completely stock. Your data will be basically left untouched.
Good luck.

Have you tried cleaning the hardware contacts on the antenna? I remember this same scenario on my old HTC Desire... the antenna contacts were dirty IIRC and they needed cleaning.
Wow, so I am not the only one still facing this issue! I flashed this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2539361 a few times and I eventually noticed the wifi issue as well.
Baseband: M919UVUF0H3
Kernel version: 3.4.0-2437203 [email protected] #1
Build number: KTU84P.M919UVUF0H3
Here's what I attempted:
1. Did a full wipe on the phone and installed full firmware 4.4.4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...mware-firmware-kernel-modem-recovery-t3193835
2. Flashed stock kernel from the same link above
3. Installed SuperSU, flashed TWRP
4. Installed and ran TriangleAway to clear KNOX counter
Same issue as OP--at first wifi would work but the connection would not stick and I was unable to activate the wifi button anymore. I tried uninstalling KNOX but I get an error "Failed to create KNOX mode." When I reboot into TWRP, I get the message "E: failed to mount /efs (invalid argument)."
I discovered that my EFS folder is empty. I don't have a backup. Could this be related to the wifi issue? Am I screwed?
Finally got the wifi working. Took the white shell that covers the board off and cleaned the contact on the shell with a q-tip and isopropyl, but it looked kinda scuzzy so I scratched it a bit to expose bare metal again. Then I went to the board side and pulled up on the tiny piece of metal that springs to make contact, enough to bend it to a steeper angle for better contact. Wifi and BT working steady for over an hour now. Thought id share.
http://blog.brokenlcds.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-bluetooth-and-wi-fi-problem/
Heres a link with pics of the locations of the antennas
Edit:
though the wifi worked briefly after this, it stopped working shortly afterwards... back to square one...

Note 2 keeps restarting everytime!

Hi guys. A relative asked me if i can repair his note 2. I think his network was locked and the phone keeps restarting everytime. I flashed a new firmware on the phone. The one I use on mine..XXUFNG1, and also I went into recovery and clear data and cache after flashing. But still the phone keeps rebooting everytime. Why is that and how can I fix this?
Note : It's not bootloop or anything. You can switch on the phone, use it for like 5mins and then it freezes and restarts itself. And it goes on like that. Sometimes it doesn't restart also and you can use for more. But most of the time after 5mins, it restarts.

Was the phone dropped or exposed to moisture? Possible battery problem? Reboots even when connected to a charger?

Hi..thanks for reply. I tried another battery in it. The one I use myself. But it still restarts. I don't know if the phone was dropped or anything though. The relative just told me that it needs to be unlocked. Do you think it's software related? Or something is damaged in the phone?
Since it is running a stock ROM and still behaves this way after a factory reset, I think there is a hardware problem.
I might have a similar problem. I copy from another thread:
Hey guys,
I like this rom so far. But since 2 weeks I got an issue.
My phone randomly turns off, atleast I guess that's what happens. Sometimes the "notify" LED is on permanently but the display won't go on. To start the phone again I have to put out the battery and put it back in.
My battery is randomly empty pretty fast even if I just let the phone turned off. This happens like every 5 minutes.
I already bought a new battery but the problem hasn't changed.
What to do now? :>

I like the phone. It's over 5 years old and runs like the first day. Except it DOESN'T wake up anymore after a short time when the screen is off. I can press the power/home button as many times as I want and wait for 5 minutes, screen will still be off. Only way to "wake" it up again is to put the battery out and in again.
Currently I don't have enough money to buy a new phone and I can get a new motherboard for 25$. But I'm not sure if this will fix my problem.
I'm not even sure if this is the ROMs problem since it worked with all earlier versions of this rom perfectly and even the latest release worked for weeks/months.

As long as I leave the screen turned on the display/phone won't go off and I can use it as always. Even the battery don't drop drastically then.
It might be exposed to moisture tho. When I take a hot shower I'll leave it on the window sill and the room gets steamy.
ROM: [7.1.2 r24] LineageOS for N7100 [Unofficial] - Version from 08.10.2017
GAPPS: Open Gapps ARM 7.1 Aroma - 03.05.2017
Baseband: N7100XXUFND3
Ril and other stuff I don't know where to check.
Some years ago I had the SDS and the motherboard was changed without the EMMC bug.
Sometimes my phone only charges in slow mode too.
I try a clean install and newer pico gapps now. Maybe it will solve the problem. I'll reply then if it worked or not.
[EDIT]
Since my phone was low on battery I turned it off completly and put it on the charger. After an hour or so I wanted to look after it.
The green charging light stays on and if I want to turn the phone on nothing happens. The light stays on even after removing the charger.
Seems like a hardware, not a rom problem? Will changing the motherboard fix this?
[EDIT 2]
Quick update. I fully wiped/factory resetted and clean installed newest version of this ROM + newest mini pico GApps. Still the same problem. Gonna try it with another ROM/kernel now and if the problem persists it's a hardware fault.
[EDIT 3]
Fully wiped again and changed ROM+Kernel. Still the same problem.
