Phone won't go on HELP - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I just installed a file to make volume louder. I backed up rom and installed apk. Now my phone won't open. I see the google lock screen then it goes black.
Took the phone to Verizon and they rebooted and recovered previous backup. He said nothing about rooted phone or different operating system. Got the Phone working HOORAY
What can I do?

What exactly is the issue you are having? is it not booting into android? or are you asking how to restore your backed up rom?

I don't understand your question either. You said that Verizon got the phone working, so what else are you trying to do?

I read the post, but im a little confused, you said you went to the verizon store and got it fixed, so thats why im not sure what you need help with. If its an issue with booting up, you will need to boot into recovery and restore the backup. To do this, simply turn off the device, wait a second, then hold both volume buttons and at the same time press the power button(do not let go off either of the three buttons yet) until you see a screen with an android logo, then press the volume down button until it says recovery at the top, then press the power button, you will then be at the recovery screen.

Galaxy Nexus in reboot cycle

Hi
My Galaxy Nexus has just started into a constant reboot cycle. The Google logo comes up and the the multi coloured animation thing like normal and then it goes back to beginning.
I never get to enter my pin or anything.
Has this happened anybody else?
It also gets quite hot after been in reboot phase for 20-30 mins.
Thanks
Brian
Need more details: what ROM/kernel you're using? Do you have ClockWork Recovery installed? What did you do to your phone before this happened?

Im not sure on exact details other than its as it was when I bought it apart from 4.0.2 is installed
I didnt root it or change radio etc
I was just using it as normal, was going in to check battery level I think
ClockWork isnt installed
If I hold down power button and volume button and go into recovery options reocovery mode doesnt work, restart bootloader doesnt help either
Only other options I have are Start and Power off
When I try and go back into those options again all I get is a screen with green Android and Start > Downloading > Do not turn off target
It can stay in this screen for 5 mins or more and go nowhere
This happened earlier on as well so I just turned it off
I tried the same procedure again and I got the recovery menu again but it still didnt work and then tried it again and I just got the Downloading message again
Not sure if any of that helps, I cant check the kernel version anywhere right now.
Oh and its the GSM release of the Nexus

I choose recovery mode and the phone restarts, Google logo comes up and it then goes to a picture of android robot with a red excamation mark over it
It just stays there on that screen for about 2-3 minutes and then retarts
After restarting it goes through sme sequence as before constantly going from Google Logo to multi coloured animation and then restarts again. At no stage do I get to login screen.
Only other option I get when I hold down power button and volume button is to restart bootloader, start and power off.

the hardest part was getting my laptop to pick up my phone in bootloader mode but my laptop is getting old and on its last legs, the usb ports are dodgy for everything
Just to warn you, there's a good chance it will happen again eventually. A few days ago it happened to me for the second time (completely stock).
I decided this time to root it and install a custom rom seeing as how I'd have to flash stock again anyway. I'm hoping that whatever bug that caused it has been fixed in 4.0.3.

The first time it happened was the 11th Jan, on 4.0.1, and the second time was the 29th Feb, on 4.0.2. And yeh it's GSM.
Yeh exactly, sucks having to install apps again etc. Now I'm rooted I've got a nandroid backup just in case it happens again.

[Q] Brick/bootloop

Hey guys, I've been searching all over for an answer to my problem, so I have looked...
Anyways...I was messing around with my phone (Verizon Galaxy Nexus) and decided to give MIUI a go, so I downloaded, backed up my current ROM and factory/cache/dalvik cache wiped my phone prior to install.
When It booted up, it stayed on the Google screen for a WHILE, so I just left it there thinking it would take a while as these things usually do.
Well, it won't, it sat on the google screen for over a half an hour. At this point I pulled the battery and tried to get into Recovery for a restore/sbf (Powere+Volume Down) and it won't let me navigate anywhere in the menu.
I'm stuck at Start with a notification that says "Downloading...Do not turn of target !!" The only thing I can do is press the power button which of course sends me back to the google logo and I'm at square one.
I've tried the toolkit on my desktop, but that does not work either (I've already set it up, as I used it to root in first place.) Does anyone have any ideas?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I can normally figure these things out, but im really stuck here. Sorry if this shouldn't be here, Q/A just seemed like the right place
Thanks in advance

To get into recovery, you need to hold volume down AND volume up and press power. (This will take to you to the bootloader, and then select recovery.)
Edit- What they said. ^^^
Have you tried booting it up after pulling the battery? It may boot fine for you now. If not you want to hold volume up + volume down + power that is how you access recovery.
Volume down + power took you to Odin mode.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it!

Odin is a Samsung-specific interface that allows you to flash partitions to your device. For the most part, it is not needed on a GNex, given that we have unlockable bootloaders and can use fastboot. However, it is sometimes needed when your bootloader gets corrupt, and you can't use fastboot.

[Q] Phone stuck in bootloop :/

Well, i wanted to restore my backed up rom, i went to twrp and restored the rom without wiping data, dalvik cache ect. it went to boot loop saying " setup wizard stopped " after reaching lockscreen and went booting again.. then i found a way to go to recovery again, i wiped the cache and stuff and restored the same back up and the same problem now no change, now i cant go inside custom recovery whatever i try.. :/ . will i be able to go to recovery after the battery is drained?
or u know a method to go inside recovery?
Have you tried holding the volume down button down when the screen goes blank? This will get you into the bootloader. You can also hold power and volume up and when the screen goes blank hold volume down only.

How long did you hold it for? You have to hold the buttons for a good ten seconds or so. You're saying the screen never goes black for a few seconds between loops?

thank u, it worked but now when i flash there is no on screen buttons and notifications at all and im stuck with 1 rom :/
the computer does not recognize my device as "on" itself!!
what to do plz help
Connect SD card reader to your computer and use it to put a ROM on removable SD. Insert the SD into the phone, and flash the ROM from recovery.
I also just came over this problem,
I've been using TWRP on all my phones for years and constantly flashing/restoring various roms.
Did I do something wrong?
I backed up using the default options and restored the same way as I always do but I had the same issue.

Make sure you firmware corresponds to the nandroid you are trying to restore.
But if they do match (correct firmware for the ROM being restored) it might just be a random thing. TWRP on this (and other recent devices like my Sammy Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4) seems a little less reliable than in the past. As long as your TWRP version is up to date, there isn't much else you can do. Except maybe keep a few different nandroids (probably on your computer, since they take so much space) in case the most recent one doesn't restore correctly.
Thanks for the reply. I also tried installing the exact same ROM again and set it up, then tried to restore but still the same problem. Thanks anyway I'll maybe try another backup and delete the old one. Thanks again
If you're restoring a ROM through the TWRP restore function make sure you always wipe always wipe data and system before restoring unless you're only restoring data or just system itself. Then only wipe that certain parition. But never restore a backup of another ROM base onto a different base without installing the ROM you are restoring first. That will cause a lot of issues, constant FC, and bootloop.

[Q] AT&T M9 Bricked?? Hangs at black screen

Hello all,
I have the AT&T variant of this phone and may have bricked it :crying:. I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, S-Off'd the phone, and attempted flashing LEEDROID. The install appeared to go well, but when the phone rebooted it loaded the HTC screen and then went to a black screen (screen is still on). Pressing and holding the power button will not turn the device off. If the power button does cause a slight vibration to occur but nothing else. Any ideas? I'm guessing the phone is fubar since I have no access to recovery tools.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

It appears the phone is still active. Pressing the power button does toggle the screen on and off and my PC sees the internal hard drive of the phone. So something appears to be up with the display driver.

So was this because you flashed an international ROM? I'm wondering because I'm rooted but not s off yet and I want to flash leedroid but I am nervous to brick my phone. I came from Nexus 5 where I wasn't worried about other variant Roms.

I'm not sure what caused this to happen. After getting everything back in order I tried Viper rom and had a similar experience. I may have had bad downloads.

It's a known problem with the way most rom devs were writing their updater scripts.. Captain throwback issued a "fix" which most people implemented by now so you don't have that issue.. The problem was system was not being mounted in twrp.

[Q] How to revert back to stock Android from Cyanogenmod 12?

Hi I have cyanogenmod 12 installed on my sprint galaxy s3 phone. I used this unofficial rom:

Now I want to uninstall it and revert back to stock Android 4.4.2 that came with the phone. I have no idea on how to get started on that. Can someone help me get started step-by-step on doing this?

You probably have a custom recovery if you are running cm 12 and on a recent bootloader.
When you hit settings... About phone... What does it say for baseband/firmware?
Also, turn off your phone. When you turn it back on hold power + home button + volume up until you see the Samsung logo. If a weird menu pops up, this will make going to stock easier. Just hit reboot or reboot system, then we can help you get the right stock setup.

I am not sure what custom recovery I have, since I did not use any backup software and I had cyanogenmod 11 before then. I hope that's still ok.
My baseband version is: L710VPUDNJ2
When I reboot my phone by holding power + home button + volume up, it does have a weird menu with black background, red text at the top "Android system recovery <3e> -- KOT49H.L710VPUDND8".

I just figured out the problem. It was 'soft bricked'. It had to be rebooted into recovery mode and I had to reformat and wipe cache. Now it works like when I first got the phone, unfortunately it's getting old and slow. That Galaxy S6 looks pretty awesome!
