Hey guys,
I've been asking myself whether I am able to use my HTC Desire (which is running Android 4.0) as USB Host Mod (e.g. with an extra-powered external harddrive)? I don't have the right cable yet, but might it be possible? (On FroYo/Gingerbread you needed those special kernels... but there are no ICS compatible as far as i have seen, so is it possible without them?)
Anyone has tried yet?
Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure who has tried on bravo, but its possible

I'm also interested in this.. I think that USB host should be even easier in ICS than in GB as it has native support..

Hi, I was just wondering since development has gone so far on this device has anyone found a way to build "OTG" into a Kernel or Rom for this device?
Hello xda developers!
So i have just purchased my first Nexus 7 tablet and i can't wait to start customizing the heck out of it! The first thing that I need to do of course is root the tablet but i have one very important question.
Most of the tutorials that I am reading are for rooting the Nexus 7 running android 4.3 however my Nexus 7 tablet just updated itself to Android 4.4
Is there a different process for root N7 running android 4.4 or is it the same process for N7 2013 tablets running 4.3?
Also i want to install multirom so that i can try new a couple of different roms but make a backup of my stock rom in case things go bad...
One thing that I am very interested in is trying out the PwnPad rom for my Nexus 7 so that I can build it for penetration testing...computer security has always been a hobby of mine.
Here is a link to people with Nexus 7 on PwnPad and how they customized their Nexus 7 to be able to use external usb wifi devices such as the Alfa AWUS036H and another usb wifi device for apps like "aircrack-ng". http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2165656
Okay so what i am really hoping for is that someone here can point me to a good tutorial on how to root my Nexus 7 Wifi tablet running Android 4.4 and if possible which recovery manager should i use? Should I be using TWRP or should i go with Multirom?
I have been hearing a lot of good things about multirom...
I do have experience rooting tablets and phones i have rooted SGS3/SGS4/and my Galaxy tab 2 10 and my Galaxy Note 10 but i like to do my research before i start.
So i need information on how to root my Nexus 7 2013 running 4.4
How to unlock the bootloader on my Nexus 7 2013
and how to install a recovery manager -> TWRP/CWM/or Multirom.
I really appreciate the help and assistance and I want to say how much i enjoy this forum,,,you people are what make it great!
I thank you all for your time and assistance.
Oh one question, I saw on a lot of tutorials that I am going to loose all of my data when i root my nexus 7 tablet, does this mean just data as in "APP" data or will I be loosing the stock rom and have to use an alternative rom such as Cyanognemod?
Second...will this tutorial work for Nexus 7 2013 devices running android 4.4?

thank you so much for the response i will be sure to check out those videos. I have been watching other videos and it seems that the process for unlocking the bootloader and rooting the Nexus 7 2013 is almost the same for those N7's running 4.3 and those running 4.4. The only difference I can see is an updated SU exploit for the actual rooting file.
If anyone else has any suggestions or input on rooting their N7 2013...maybe something they wish they would have done or something that would make life easier please let me know!
I thank you all again for your time and your response!

Just go for it, step by step. It's too easy now a days with all the generous gurus posting up tutorials for guys like us not as versed in the area. If you run In to any issues, post in that thread I linked you to where the guides are. That thread is full off people running into this and that but pulling through in the end from the help of others there.
Have fun and we hope to see ya on the rooted end of the tunnel soon.

For those of you who are just getting you Nexus 7 2013 tablets and for those of you who have been good boys and girls and will be getting their Nexus 7 for the X-mas holiday season, the Nexus Root Toolkit by Wufresh -> http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/ works amazing for the updated
Nexus 7 tablet running Android 4.4 Kit Kat.
The toolkit downloaded the usb drivers, unlocked the bootloader, rooted my N7 tablet, and flashed the TWRP recovery manager. I could not have been happer, and it was a very VERY easy way to root the Nexus 7 2013 tablet.
A tutorial link has been posted in this thread but here it is again: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2381698
If you have any questions about running this toolkit please let me know and i would be glad to assist you...
On a side note i kind of feel like i cheated myself...
I wanted to download and install/configure android sdk my self and get ADB running manually and I wanted to flash and root the N7 with the ADB shell that way but I was in quite a rush today only have so much time to work with.
Hopefully Monday i will have more time after finals and i can get my ADB shell working on UBUNTU and Windows 7.
I would like to thank naturecannon for the link and I would like to especially thank WuGFresh for his amazing (updated) toolkit. If you are new to rooting or new to a shell (command console environment) then this is for sure the way to go.
I can't wait now to flash multirom on my N7 and try PwnPad so i can setup my N7 as a penetration testing tablet.
Take care everyone, and I wish a happy holiday and an even better new year to you all...

CURRENT DEVICES:
Samsung Galaxy S3 i535: unlocked bootloaer /rooted running CM 10.1.2
Samsung Galaxy S3 i535: unlocked bootlder /rooted stock 4.1.2
Samsung Galaxy S4 - rooted
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 running CM 10.1.3
Google Nexus 7: unlocked bootlder / rooted stock 4.4 (soon to be running Cyanogenmod and PwnPad)!
Droid Bionic - rooted stock rom 4.0 ICS (soon to be running CM 10.1.3) (as soon as i fix the digitizer)!
I'm sorry if it's not the right place to ask such a question, but I really cannot find anywhere.
I installed two versions of CM11 for KFHD 8.9 and found neither has a working OTG, which is a must-have for me.
I'm wondering if there's any other ROMs or possible patches to current CM11 to make the OTG working.
(what's weird is the CM11 on Nook HD+ has a working OTG...)
I'll appreciate if anyone can advice.
Thanks.
Hi, I have been away from modding and roms for quite a while, and to be honest I have forgotten most of what I knew about it all. I have a T520 and it is currently rooted and running a Android 4 rom. I want to use it to view my Eufy Cams but in order for that app to work it needs to be on Android 5.0 or higher. I am looking for a simple setup and a stable and basic rom if possible. I literally use this tablet for nothing else, so the most important thing is being able to use that app. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
Look at this, its doing a great job for most of the sm-t520 users here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...7-1-xsm-t520-unofficial-lineage-14-1-t3538770
Its Android 7.1.1
