inside recovery just see if you find the option to install zip from ext and your usb gets detected there or not while attached

Format your USB flash drive as fat32 transfer your rom boot to recovery and connect your USB drive, Philz recovery will mount it automatically, some times Philz recovery can't see it, to fix this reinstall from recovery the same recovery and when you boot back to fresh installed recovery connect your flash drive and recovery will see it. Philz recovery also can see ntfs etc but prefer to format your flash drive as fat32.

well i would like to know about the issue and a detailed description how to get out of it ... as i m not familier with partitions and all in motorola defy as well as how to fix it ..
wht i did was i installd shadows 2.3.4 rom and then tried to revert back to original one with full flash with 2.59 eclair rom. everything went well and fine until .... in eclair i tried to backup the current rom. while entering into recovery its showing
cant mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 or (/dev/block/mmcblk0) (No such file or directory)
can someone tell me in a detailed way cause i havent worked with gparted or something like tht to fix the partitions of motorola defy in this manner..
how to proceed in this to fix this problem so that i can use cwm again to install roms and all ?
please help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did sdcard work within Android eclair?
Try to reformat your SDCard using windows. (fat32)
(Backup your card)
okay i formatted ... now shall i reformat it via the phone again ? or should i go directly to the cmw ???
Edit : i formatted sdcard via windows . and opened bootmenu to backup .. yet the problem is persisting !!

Try this custom rec
format your sd card, or insert a a new one preferable Class 4
after that
attached is the file.
Usb debug on
install it
usb debug off
restart it
open the software and boot into recovery.
hope it works.
Thanks

Hi after upgrading to JB i am getting some issue with my phone. If i format my htc one x with gparted and then re-install the rom . Will it be ok to do that ?
I would be cautious doing that...
Better to factory reset and erase the sdcard from within your recovery (TWRP or CWM).

OK Thanks. But when erasing the sdcard (That is the built in sdcard) it will erase everything so will i still be able to connect as a drive so that i can copy the rom into it.

As long as the recovery is either the latest CWM or TWRP, you can mount the USB Storage and put ROM.zip on it. Not with a stock recovery.
And be sure to have CWM 5.8.4.0. The usb mounting doesn't work with earlier versions.
Sent from my HTC One X
Yep. It's fine to erase everything, as long as you have latest CWM or TWRP on there, you can still mount your phone and put a rom on there to flash
Good luck!

I've never format my internal SDcard so
Just connect the phone to the pc nd format the sd card like any USB diskdrive .... what's difficult about that !

Merry Christmas !
hey guys,
i wanna completely reset my one x via hboot or fastboot. is that possible?
i have the issue that my system got chrootet to /sdcard/0 and now i have lots of trouble finding my data or using cwm. i cant even mount usb via cwm oder restore my old backups
thx
Why? What happens if you mount usb storage in recovery?
Which ROM are you using?
i upgraded from cm10 to 4.2.1 so my sdcard got chrootet to /0
if i try to mount usb it says "unable to open lumis file" or sth
also i cant see any of my backups in cwm cuz cwm thinks my sdcard is /sdcard, but it actually is /sdcard/0....
i already reinstalled cwm but nothing changed
my rom is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013506&highlight=rc8 RC8 version

Flash Philz recovery 5.15.9 and you will be able to mount sd card. flash boot.img on viper and install again viper rom.
And something else for CM11 you need different recovery latest Philz or in CM11 thread latest CWM6.04.07 or something like that

My Redmi1s stuck after booting can anyone help its been 2weeks i cant use my phone if i use the notification bar it stucked:crying::crying::crying::crying:
Install TWRP 2.8.7.0 via fastboot (if you dont have a custom recovery) and then clean flash CM12.1 - R28 (Clean flash is wiping cache, dalvik, system, data). Thats the solution for now as no specific details have been mentioned..
how can i mount the storage so i can put the files i cant locate the storage because it only shows armani storage

I do this when something wrong happens. Do this only if you dont need any of your files on your phone. Get an USB otg, copy the rom gapps and firmware files in a pendrive and connect it to the otg. Boot into recovery, then wipe everything except usb otg. Then flash rom>wipe cache dalvik>flash gapps> wipe cache dalvik> flash firmware> wipe cache dalvik and reboot. This should work for sure. Result: you will have a new redmi 1s with clean rom and I suggest you to try this with cm12.1 r28 (coz I tested this on r28 and it worked)
You need to have latest twrp to do this. No need mounts or anything.

If possible buy an OTG bro. Its just 70INR or around 1$ . Afaik I follow the above said procedure incase anything goes wrong. One more alternative is that use a SD card reader to format your SD card to FAT32 then copy rom+gapps+firmware then do the above mentioned procedure.
Flash Fastboot ROM then try flashing desired custom Rom again

it wont plash CM 12 hays. im so stressed i cant fix my problem
If all attempts fail, then your final step is to instal proper fastboot ROM.
Download the fastboot ROM from http://en.miui.com/thread-177239-1-1.html and install it properly
Red this instructions thoroughly and proceed. http://en.miui.com/thread-55454-1-1.html
Do the above and get back and then we ll see to install CM roms but
What you mean by didn't work what error do you get
strange
@nicko188 follow http://en.miui.com/a-234.html mi flashtool here because I think official link is broken. Select flash all.
