Root your phone and download Freegee from the play store and see if that'll install recovery for you.

FreeGee wasn't working for E986 last time I tried. Do I have to unlock bootloader to use FreeGee app?
Today I was able to flash CM10.2 onto my E986 (orig. SW Version E98610a)
FreeGee didn't work, but I was able to flash the recovery manually (the one from the Official CM10.2 Thread) with this command (you have to be rooted to do that)
Code:
dd if=/path/to/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
after that I rebootet into recovery with no problems, made a backup and flashed CM10.2 and it worked without any problems
I hope this workes on other E986 SW Variants as well
Where do we write this code?
Via Terminal Emulator or ADB shell, but before that command, you have to enter su for root rights

I am getting "cannot open for write: Permission denied" Do we have to substitute anything for
of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
Thanks
As I wrote before, you have to enter su before that command, and grant the app (e.g. Terminal Emulator) or the ADB Shell Superuser permissions
So you have to write this:
Code:
su
dd if=/path/to/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
And of course you have to be rooted for this methode

The only thing I can say is it performs the same but it is just gorgeous on the lg display, beautiful background with text that just pops off the screen. But like the poster said above text is a bit small but I think more readable than the old version of cwm.

Just tried, looks very good on P930, however, it seems to NOT WORK properly.
I flashed this CWM using the command posted by Swetnes (post #6).
After which, I then tried flashing the latest CM10 nightly using it, flashed failed with build.prop error. (MD5 of my nightly download checks out.)
Tried the 25th nightly, same error.
Rebooted, re-flashed CWM 5.8.2.0 using ROM Manager, then attempted to flash the lastest nightly again (same file on the SD, I did not re-copy or re-download), succeeded the first try.
Anyone on 6.0.1.2 encountered the same errors as above?

So I just found out you could do this today, but if you go to builder.clockworkmod.com, you can tell it to build a CWM image for a bunch of devices. I went ahead and had it build 6.0.1.3 for our P930. It could be fun playing with the update.zip exporting feature in this CWM. At the same time, the barrier for entry just got lowered substantially for rom "developers".
Note: I have not tested any of the functions of this CWM, so don't blame me if it jacks your phone up. I didn't even build it myself, Jenkins did
Edit, I tried to do the same for the SU640, but no joy there. The build failed.
Edit #2, Okay, so this autobuilt CWM won't flash roms for me. It is hamstrung on the asserts for ro.product.device and ro.build.product. Ah well, it was worth a shot
Edit #3, You really don't wanna use this, it will screw things up for you.
thank u~

Usually see that when trying to flash over Official ICS. If that's the case, you'll have to follow one of the unbrick guides in the "General" section.
Hi guys,
I have CWM 5.5 on my S3 i747, and I just wonder where can I find the latest version of CWM for i747, and also how do I upgrade it using ODIN ?
As I understand, it should be a file named "recovery.img", and to flash it on my S3, I have to tar it and flash the tar file using ODIN. Is that right?
Thanks!
Download rom manager and get from there, I personally couldn't stand the latest cwm recovery its slow as hell took way too long to make a backup
Galaxy SIII via XDA premium
Download your version of cwm there
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Place it at the root of your sdcard and rename it recovery.IMG
Download terminal emulator from the play store. Run the terminal
type: su (press enter)
Then type: dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 (press enter)
Type everything right. If you get the last number wrong, you get a brick.
I did this on my phone to install cwm touch without any issues

U can always use rom manager to get latest cwm as everyone mentioned but that will be regular cwm.
If u want touch cwm than u got three options
1) use terminal emulator as mentioned in the earlier post
2) buy it from play store
3) flash through Odin.

They most likely will and even if they don't you could always flash a previous version of cwm( the one you made the backup with). No need for angry faces lol. You should search and get the lowdown of the consequences of everything you flash before you flash.

The freegee backup is not nessesary for anything. If your phone is running stock firmware, i recommend root it using framaroot, and unlock bootloader with freegee. This will install a recovery.
If you already have TWRP, delete script lines of CWM recovery and install it. If you dont know how to do it tell me.

Freegee backup is your efs and boot files for later use if required. Save them in dropbox or something they are very handy in bad times.
If you are already unlocked with freegee than you have a custom recovery just boot into recovery and update the recovery using zip. Like the cwm one I have posted.
Yes if you are not unlocked, use the old freegee.apk

hi there
i have exactly the same problem

My Galaxy is all new and this is my first time to flash an android device
flashing the root pack and the PhilZ CWM worked like a charm, but if i try to flash the ROM for my GT-5100 it rants about "this for for kona-3g, this is device kona-wifi"
I triple-checked the build-info in the device settings, and it says everywhere "GT-N5100" - even at bootup
The ROM im trying to use is named like :
omniß4.4.20131224ßn5100-homemade.zip
im using Philz Touch 5 CWM 6 version CivZ 1.1
error is :
THis package is for "GT-N5100,kona3g..." device this is a "konawifi" (status 7)
Any ideas ??

Hi,
I tried the above and still get the Status 7 error. Have even tried a new version of 6.48.4-n5110 and no avail. I'm on the verge of throwing away this phablet into the dustbin.
It's for LG G Pro Lite DUAL! You can port it to other versions if ya want.
Also the boot.img is for V20D firmware (D686 model only, install it only if You need it!)
Every boot/recovery.img needs to be BUMPED.
TWRP + unsecured boot.img
* You need to be rooted at least for the while to do it. The easiest way is to use KingRoot. You can uninstall it later and/or replace it with SuperSU.
1. Download the images and copy them to internal storage -> Google Drive
2. Turn on USB Debugging, then use Android Emulator or ADB shell to type those commands:
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/TWRP_2.8.7.x_d686.img of=/dev/recovery bs=10485760 count=1
dd if=/sdcard/unsecuredboot_d686.img of=/dev/bootimg bs=9437184 count=1
Root
1. Just flash SuperSU in TWRP.
Bugs
*everything should work
I didn't test External Storage, also I may provide sometime a AutoBUMP in TWRP so bumping the images won't be necessary.

thanks

Every boot/recovery.img needs to be BUMPED.
TWRP + unsecured boot.img
* You need to be rooted at least for the while to do it. The easiest way is to use KingRoot. You can uninstall it later and/or replace it with SuperSU.
1. Download the images and copy them to internal storage -> Google Drive
2. Turn on USB Debugging, then use Android Emulator or ADB shell to type those commands:
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/TWRP_2.8.7.x_d686.img of=/dev/recovery bs=10485760 count=1
dd if=/sdcard/unsecuredboot_d686.img of=/dev/bootimg bs=9437184 count=1
Root
1. Just flash SuperSU in TWRP.
Bugs
*everything should work
I didn't test External Storage, also I may provide sometime a AutoBUMP in TWRP so bumping the images won't be necessary.

Oh! It's the other variant of G Pro Lite Dual? You don't have any issues?
Confirmed working on LG D686 Build number KOT 49I.D68620d.
Beckup and Restore work on Internal and on External memory.
Many thanks for your work and i hope that the next station will be some custom ROMs.
Thanks for the TWRP Recovery and for helping me to make unsecured boot.img for V20C :good:
No problems work 100%

okay, nice one.
by the way, i think that flashing custom boot.img may not be necessary, if it will be right, then You will have less issues on other variants like D680.
