Just as the title says. I'm constantly getting alerts for a hot battery. My phone doesn't even feel hot so I have no idea what is going on.

The only time I got that was when I left my phone in the work truck during work one day. I came to check my phone during a break and the sun was shining directly on it. After I moved it into a shaded area, all was good.

I'm wondering if it's the tpu case I have on. I'm getting warnings at like 75 degrees Fahrenheit which honestly don't seem that hot. And I get them when I leave the phone sitting on a couch a bed a desk you name it. Not even in the sun. I'll just randomly get a notification noise and it says warning - hot battery

this is with the screen off???
It almost sounds like a rouge app or something is keeping your phone on at all times almost like Google maps how it gets hot using that. How is the battery life?
Battery life has been pretty good so far tbh. I think I know the rouge process though. My university uses1 a dynamic ip address system for wifi, and when I'm using their wifi I have almost 85% awake time because the wifi has to constantly regain an ip. I think that may be it bit I haven't had the phone enough at another location to test...

oh yea wow, I'd either set the wifi to turn off during sleep (my personal choice) or turn if off when not needed, but I guess that would only be necessary if your battery sucked, which you say it doesn't. hope find the issue.
Well, it sucks compared to some of the times I see others posting, but it gets me through the day without a recharge normally. It helps that I set up a virtual router in my dorm room (we're not allowed real routers). When on that network, I lose almost no battery life with the screen off because the ip is static

built in but i have no idea because it warns me randomly - sometimes at 75 degrees, other times at 90...
It's weird
alright im resurrecting this really quick. Can someone else with a battery monitoring app (I use gsam battery monitor) tell me what the temp of their battery is while they arent heavily using it? to get there in the app, swipe the battery on the top of the page when you open it.
I'm idling at 75 degrees Fahrenheit, which isnt bad I don't think but since I've gotten warnings right around there I figured I'd ask what someone else's phone looks like
I use battery monitor widget pro. At idle its usually close to room temp. That's in an HTC double flip case inside a leather pouch (paranoid). Highest I hit under load is 104f. Nothing like my rezound. If you uninstall your current battery app and use the free version of battery monitor widget and enable "monitor without widget" you will end up with a log where you can see what your phone has been up to.

I got warnings when it was 35-40+, but today I got a warning that it was hot when the phone was cold. My battery was almost dead maybe that had something to do with it

Currently while my phone has been sitting on my desk overnight idling, the CPU-Z app on my phone is reporting my battery at 31.5 degrees C which is 88.7 F and I have never gotten a battery temp warning.
I use Fahrenheit too. Why should temp always be measured in Celsius?

I mean I can convert it no problem so it's not a huge deal. But what I've basically come up with is that one of my battery apps is giving off hot battery warnings at random, and they're not that big of a deal.
Cool, thanks everyone!
I was coming to ask exactly the same question. Mine wasn't even hot when I picked it up! Nor was the sun shining directly on it or in a hot or humid environment. My battery life is normal though.

While being used it goes to 93 degrees. While pluged in 102 degrees without use and 113 with use. Is this normal? Just checking

I live in Texas btw..so the heat is legit. But when inside and just dickin around doing the same sht, it never hits 100 degrees. At the most it's 95-98.
Where are you finding the hotness number??

I just watched some what the flick youtube reviews for about an hour total, in full screen, at max brightness - trying to drain the battery for better calibration.
The battery temperature was stuck at 31C. Neither the back nor the front of the phone even felt warm.
hottest mine has gotten was 44C
I'm using Battery Indicator from the market (free version)
on standby, my phone is about 26C
light web browsing/texting its around 31C
when charging for an hour, it can get up to 40C
the highest i've seen it was around 46C when I was playing games, then took a call for 20 mins right after.

In all fairness, the cpu was not being loaded that much - maybe only 25%. Most of the video decoding seems to be done in gpu hardware.
I'm sure it would be much warmer if I was playing a 3d game.

Lost just 20% in 16 hours. This is of course with JuiceDefender and airplane mode scheduled to run over night. But it's still impressive as we used to get battery drains even at times phone was supopsed to sleep and AirPlane mode on.
My baseband is UGKK7, but that's not what cured it, I had this baseband installed days earlier and battery drain was awful.
In my case it appears all battery problems are cured:

What's your standby current draw? In my HD2 android, I had about 4-9ma. But in Galaxy Nexus it's about 19-40ma which is pretty high. Judging from your screenshot, yours is 16ma in standby?
Possibly, I have no idea. Nexus is known from high default cpu voltage, maybe thats that or maybe it's my apps waking phone every now and then to check things, for example LED light notification app or Juice Defender.
Anyway, I'm pretty happy now, might tweak it some more when I have time, but it's now at the same level as my old SGS2, I'd say a bit better (I think I had 5% night drop on AirPlane mode on SGS2, but again it depends on apps).

That's not it, I know battery will go down when I actively use it. What I noticed is that I get great results when phone is idle. This didn't happen before, you would see battery drain even when idle at night in AirPlane mode. This means light use should also give better battery performance than before, I will be testing that.

I only tested it overnight, when Im sleeping, notice the ZERO wake locks and crappy signal; unbelievable!
Disclaimer: this was while I was sleeping, NO usage. Battery obviously goes down much quicker once the screen is on, but for idle time, I am content!

It is not useless info. Previously, when putting in AirPlane mode and not using the phone at all we would see big battery drain. Now we don't. This is to proove that now the phone actually goes to sleep whenever I don't use it. This is proper testing before and after applying one change.

I will know next time I go to work. But since I never use it for all these 8-10 hours straight, I should have better battery, because whenever I will put the phone away, even for another 15mins, battery will stop dropping like it used to.
In other words, it will most likely still drop as usual while actively using the phone, but in overall I should get more battery because of much more efficient idle times.

Here you go. And damn your lightning fast!

Something is definitely keeping your phone awake. Do you have GPS/BT/Wifi on even though you are not using it? Perhaps a poorly coded app, or one not optimized for ICS.
Everything off lately because I'm trying to figure this out. This is why I bought better battery stats and yes I know its free here but I like to support the developer. I've got location and services off hell I even turned Google backup because I Google these wakelocks and I saw someone say something about this backup keeping there phone awake. Didn't make a difference as you see?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
What does your battery usage screen say? Do you have something that is using up a lot of power other than screen? Also, nothing interesting under Kernel Wakelocks in BetterBatteryStats?
---------- Post added at 06:55 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:49 AM ----------
Also... something interesting. The main part (in the beginning) where your phone is AWAKE yet screen is OFF only accounted for approximately 6-7% battery drain. I'm assuming this is over a 2-3 hour interval, which would indicate ideal battery drain (2-3% an hour). The only other times your phone was awake was when screen was on, and they correlate very nicely. I honestly don't think your phone is being adversely affected by wake locks. Another idea, do you have Google+ or Dropbox photo syncing set to Wifi or Data, just Wifi, or none?
I've got drop box but sync off no going+ no Facebook. This long looking wake is while a sleep and those beginning long stretches are over 8 hours while sleeping. Something interesting. I only get this long wake while off the charger when I sleep. I get horrible signal at home. About 1,4g bar. The rest of those stats were at work with excellent coverage. I wonder even with data off if I can still get wake problems in a poor coverage area? It seems so but I wouldn't think so with data off? You are right its not a big deal but something isn't right. Thanks I appreciate the help

Nothing showing high drain. Android OS is at a low 10% and nothing but screen shows lots of juice which is normal
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I'm guessing it has to be the signal. One bar is definitely cutting it close. Try sleeping with airplane mode and see if that resolves your overnight awake times.

I know it's my first time on LTE too, and even though it drains battery like none other I can't ever put my phone in 3g only! MUST HAVE GODLIKE SPEEDS. Sorry, caps lock was on.
I couldn't agree more! If your going to pay premium price for a speedy network then use it. I'll never look at a 3g signal unless I have to

Being able to trace where a wakelockis coming from is an essential thing! is there not something that can trace what requested the lock? is there not a custom kernel module designed to intercept and log which apps are misbehaving? without this then there's no diag tools for android and I'm shocked!
BetterBatteryStats will tell you the wakelock but it can't tell you the process causing it.
I would love to put something between Dvalik and apps to intercept those wakelocks!

Day 2 from full charge to 6% I had 17 hrs 10 mins
Don't seem to have any rogue apps from battery monitors I've tried which makes sense as I've only downloaded about 10 apps.
Always have WiFi and GPS on which I always do on any phone, and have auto brightness off and set manually to just under half way.
I have dropbox set up to automatically upload camera pictures but under battery monitor this only uses 0.5% of battery use.
I also seem to have a faulty S Pen which sometimes seems too sensitive as it'll draw or open menus/apps with the pen about 1cm from the screen, and other times the pen doesn't recognise the air/hover mode and I have to press firmly to draw.
Any ideas?
Between this and the over sensitive S Pen, I'm beginning to think I just have a faulty phone!?
If it was as easy as taking it to a store I would, but I received it free with a 2 year contract from an online company in the UK called Affordable Mobiles who seem to have pretty good reviews. They've said if I want an exchange or them to have a look at it I'd have to send it back and wait 2-3 days which I can't do really as I don't have a spare phone - but at the same time I don't want to start rooting the phone and messing about with launchers if it is a fault.
Thanks

IMO, to get more than 1 day with WiFi & GPS constantly on is good. On my Note 2, I am usually left with around 30% of battery left at the end of the day but I never have GPS turned on unless I need it, only my WiFi is on.

You should judge your battery stats from your screen on time. Regular usage with sync and wifi and data enabled should get you between 5 and 8 hours, but it's possible to reach 10 and beyond with low brightness and no connectivity. If it's below 4, you can start thinking that something is wrong if you didn't do any crazy gps navigation or something, and start from there.

I'm getting such bad battery drain when the screen is on its ridiculous. I've taken some screenshots from Gsam and as you can see at times I'm losing 5% battery over ten minutes of screen on time. I'm not gaming or doing anything cpu intensive and the screen brightness is set to 25%.. What sort of battery drain are others experiencing when the screen is on?

I don't care how fast a battery charges or whether it's removable, there is simply no substitute for a phone you take off charge in the morning and run all day with zero thought to the battery until you plug it in at night. For me with the G4 battery is crazy bad with screen on and almost as appalling screen off. With the Z2 and 3 if I didn't use my phone much say during the morning at work it would have 90% left at lunch time. Or even streaming Pandora all day barely touched it. Same for this phone I'm already down to 70% without using it by lunch. In this reply I've lost 6% so far. I think all the comments talking about turning off WiFi, and lower brightness etc are all BS. To me, that's not using the phone. It's not making my day and my business easier if I'm constantly worried about battery life.
I've found that the avg screen time no matter what is 3-4 hours. I get 19hrs on my battery on avg and always get between 3-4 hrs of screen on time. Having that spare battery is a major help.
I miss my turbo for it had minimum 5hrs sot and over. Still getting used to this battery life on my g4
Mine has gotten better after a few cycles. The screen off drain is extremely low, which makes up for screen on drain in my case.
On my Z3v, I was amazed at screen on time - but the battery would just drain at 10%/hour pretty commonly - so even though i could get 5hrs of screen on - it would still only last for a day. With the G4, I use it all day when I need to, and then after two days I need to charge it. Not to mention I got 5hrs SOT yesterday.
I wonder if anyone will develop a 4k Mah battery that fits in roughly the same size back? I've seen 6k already... but I dont need that much. Just a bump more will help.

What do you count as a cycle? Mine is still crap after owning the phone for weeks.

Recharge cycles, letting it get low enough that It needs to shut down and then charging it back up with the stock charger.
Others have reported similar, and others have also mentioned doing a factory reset if you haven't tried that.
Overall I agree with the barely average life. Especially with this phone - I'd rather they make it .5mm thicker and put a bigger batter to allow for real all day phone use of calls, email, etc.
