hi to all. first sorry for the name of the topic i just wanted to say the 2 main points. well lets start
im an owner of a galaxy note 2 affected with the insane chip and it just remain 3 months of warranty.
I'd like to know which is the price of the motherboard raparation if it dies. I'm asking that coz I've just read that if i give my phone to "the phone house" and plus 399€ I'll have a contract-free GN3.
hoping that the gn3 is not going to have any SDS or similar and also with the addition of 4g, is it a good idea to do it?

Over here they tried to charge me around Eur 260 to replace the board. Eventually Samsung agreed to repair under warranty so I did not have to pay it.

4.1.2 is for free and you won't get sds problems.
Not entirely true... I ran a ROM thst supposed to be safe, yet I suffered from the SDS and had to have the main board replaced.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
that's my problem I'm quite scared of it although I've been using safe roms since the first week when i had the phone...
more than 200 euros is excessive in my opinion to replace it but its less than i expected.
im going to keep this one praying to have luck and waiting for note 4 or similars thanks for your help guys

1. Was your custom recovery updated
2. Was your bootloader updated
You can still get effected with sds if you had older bootloader..The only way was to go to latest stock rom or flash the bootloader separately

How to check the bootloader's version ?
Sds is produced with cumulative effect, if you have earlier used older rom, sds can be precipitated on newer rom. More the time you had older rom, more the chances to get sds. It damages the sectors on emmc and untill that sector occupied with data you can't get any symptoms.
Bootloader is not responsible in fixing sds, it is kernel. Bootloader was just patched for security vulnerability (exynos exploit). It has nothing to do with sds. Recovery uses kernel source code and so recovery also needs to be sds patched.
All the roms released since 2013 are sds patched. In fact only couple of 4.1.2 roms were released in last week of 2012 were sds vulnerable and later withdrew by Samsung. Otherwise all 4.1.2 are sds patched.

I flashed it for over a week ago, i had wanam lite, had some fc's reinstalled stock and cleared everything...
Been running ok until yesterday.
Ok and any custom recovery have you flashed?
Not quite shure, but i think CWM 6.xx
That could be the reason, if your recovery is older and non patched for SDS then it can happens
If possible you can describe complete name of CWM OR from where you have download wud be better for community to understand the reason for SDS
Otherwise you have flashed ROM is believed to be patched. If you have that CWM recovery still on your PC, try to describe full name and if possible download link from where you got it.

Note II GT-N7100, Android 4.1.2 - Stock_Odex_Rooted_N7100XXDMB2_N7100OXEDMB1_N7100XXDLK7_SER
Phone was charging during night and I found it stucked with N7100 logo on screen.
I read all threads here about SDS, I can go do download mode and tried to flash recovery with ODIN, but get error: There is no PIT partition.
Does it mean I totally screwed with SDS and nothing can be done?
Service center is the only way?
Thanks.
Which recovery and kernel you had?
Do you able to access recovery and download mode?
What is written on Rt upper corner in download mode?
dr.ketan, thank you for reply.
Recovery and kernel was stock from Android 4.1.2 - Stock_Odex_Rooted_N7100XXDMB2_N7100OXEDMB1_N7100XX DLK7_SER firmware from this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915386
I have access to download but not recovery mode.
Left upper corner in download mode:

It seems SDS only, don't do anything and send it to service centre.
BTW since how long you were on this ROM ?
One more thing, have this ROM contains sboot.img file? (you may see it by extracting tar) and have you flashed bootloader separately?
Just few days on this ROM, I was on 4.1.1 similar stock rooted, but phone started to reboot randomly and lose information like SMS and system settings. I was on 4.1.1 for 5 months with any problems. So I made to decision it may be hardware glitch but wanted to give my phone one more try with newer firmware.
Yes, TAR file has sboot.bin file and my previous firmware - Stock_Root_Odex_N7100XXALJ1_N7100OXEALI8_N7100XXALIH_SER doesn't.
I flashed 4.1.2 with Mobile ODIN, all partitions at the same time.
omg now 4.1.2 is also not safe..

Mobile ODIN don't flash bootloaders!
It is your fault, you should flash 4.1.2 with "desktop" ODIN.
And 4.1.2 is safe, if you flash it properly.
Bootloader doesn't have patch for sds but it's patched for exynose bug isn't?
Sds believed to be patched with kernel and recovery, here issue seems due to damage already took place on older rom.

I agree with dr.ketan post, damage was taken on 4.1.1 already and SDS patch is in kernel, not in bootloader.

Yes thats possible. However, Your warranty will still be considered void if they find a custom rom on your device...so I dont get it?
Youll need both 0 Binary count and a Stock rom.
Yes i know but if the can't see this like with a SDS they will probably not see the custom ROM because not be able to flash. Im afraid of bricked issue. I mean if i cannot flash anymore. It's better to have counter reset instead of having nothing.
So it's better for me to reset counter even if I'm with custom rom? Is there a tutorial in my case rom custom + custom kernel?

Two words. Triangle Away.
The tutorial is the same whether with stock/rooted or custom/rooted. The only difference is you'll need to check "reset on boot" with Triangle Away to keep the counter from reading 1.

But if i do it before flash stock. I will have to do it again after flash stock Rom??

Just uninstall Triangle Away AFTER you've reverted back to stock and unrooted and the counter should remain 0 and read official.
If you haven't had the phone that long, why not do a dry run from stock/unrooted to custom/rooted and then back to stock/rooted (with Triangle Away installed and doing its job of course) and see for yourself.
Thanks bro

Just keep mind the community also expects you to use the search function or learn from many existing tutorials here and the internet in general.
If you think you have a problem, chances are many other people have experienced the same and a thread may already exist.

here is some possible ways
-Having custom kernel/recovery, still yo can reset counter but for that you need play store version of triangle away, which have option to reset counter at every boot. again to remember you need custom kernel which support this function. this will help you if your device brick in a way when no normal boot is possible (still i doubt any existing custom kernel offers it)
- If device still able to boot normally and you have custom kernel/recovery, you can flash stock kernel and recovery and after that you can reset counter.
-For stock kernel and recovery, you can reset triangle(needs root) and can uninstall triangle away. whenever you need to claim warranty just unroot it.
Last option is safest way who are worrying about warranty.
one more good thing is that, most common cause of brick is SDS, we already have fix for that, though unfortunately someone gets SDS, i have seen lots of cases when even presence of custom kernel/recovery, hardly bootloader can detect it b'coz of emmc read failure and warranty remains intact. in fact i have seen only one case of SDS where download mode showing flash binary count non zero, though i was not ready to believe it was SDS (history what i remember is, one guy have posted here, his GF have got device bricked and claim was rejected b'coz of raised flash counter, her device needed to replace mobo that's it. no further information was there and hard to believe it was SDS by just this much information)

Thanks a lot for these details!
I use the perseus kernel andi don't know if he can use the auto reset counter with triangle away?
But if i understand what you said (sorry for my bad english speaking) almost all of the SDS will not avoid the warranty. If it's not a SDS I'm supposed to flash again with download mode?
Si should i try triangle away with perseus kernel?
Thanks again!
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Better ask on perseus forum if this option available, b'coz you have to purchase triangle away from market for that. Though it's welcome if you this way want to support developers.
Another your question possibility of Flashing in non sds case, that is really depends on types of brick you have. Though just flashing is not enough, you need to flash stock kernel and recovery as well you should have device working (booting) normally, bcoz triangle away needs normal booting device. So in case of brick I don't think you may get chance.
Simple advice
If you really worrying about flash counter and warranty, then keep stock maximum use root with reseting counter
Or
Let leave on luck and enjoy custom stuff.

Hello everybody,
I would like to have read this forum before, I didn't upgraded my N7100 from 4.1.1 so now I probably suffer from SDS.
I say probably because I never rooted the phone, never upgraded the stock rom, I just used it as my notebook
and reader, and obviously I used it for making calls and texts.
A day I found my phone stuck "Samusng N7100" boot screen.
First I have tried to boot it with power+home+volume UP in order to try to do a reset
but it didn't worked, I got a small red led lighting up in the right high corner of the
screen and nothing more that this.
Instead, if I do power+home+volume DOWN, It goes in Download mode and says:
Odin Mode (in red)
Product name :
Custom Binary Download :NO
Current BInary : Samsung Official
System status: Custom
I have three questions for you:
Is really my phone dead by SDS or It's a software software/android bug ?
(It was an unrooted phone with only play store apps.
From what I have studied in the last hours,
SDS phone doesn't go in download mode, Am I right?)
Is there any way to download MY data from it before sending it to assistance?
In the case that is not suffering from SDS, Is it safe to try to do an upgrade of the rom in order to
recover the software bug?
Is there any way to have an access to it ?
Best regards

Just b sure not to flash the latest modem rom as if emei goes missing than you will be another mess than solve that rather flash http://www.hotfile.com/dl/203112196/98a0ae2/N7100XXDMC3_N7100ODDDMD1_INU.zip.html version(non rooted), http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230250 (rooted version) and you are good to go stock rom will get u stock recovery than use traingle away to get your flash counter 0 make sure you enable usb debugging
create efs backup while in stock rom to keep your phone safe from probs if it arise later due to any custom rom flashing
So I'll flash this one to be safe... after flashing wil reset the counter using triangle away app.. and then to be more safer I'll unroot from the super user app..
Are the steps correct??

yes it is just flash and reset counter . remember to unroot and check the device status if its normal bfr taking to sc
They will not replace it unless you experience the effects of sds. Your in safe hands as long as your not in version 4.1.1. Don't worry to much.
But I cant just stay on stock rom and stock kernel till I start getting problems... I mean to say once affected by sds I wil not be able to get in recovery mode to flash the stock things again...
I'll give it a try... lets see wat they say at sc

or maybe this can be risky but u can make ur phone die via sds and send it to service center?!?!
Hahah... I cant make my die on purpose.. well I'll do a thing.. I'll wait till I get symptoms of sds like lagging freezing n reboots. . Then immediately I'll flash everything to stock n approach sc
