Touch "flickering" - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I'm italian and I hope u understand me ...
I've a little problem regarding touch, I don't know if it is a bug or hardware issue.
So, when I scroll a page, (by Facebook app, Twitter app or simply Chrome) and I do not take off my finger, there is a little flickering (up and down).
I remember that this happened with my GS2 when it was in charge but in that case was normal.
This problem also happens to you ?
Thank you

Also happens to me while charging. It's a common problem with chargers which do not produce consistent power

But to me happens not when charging ... and I'd like to know if this is normal or not

Do you have a screen protector applied? Some poor quality ones may also cause such issues

In your opionion is it a software or hardware issue?

Seems to be a hardware issue to me. I constantly get it if I don't dry my hands properly after washing them and then touch the screen. (can't unlock my pattern on the screen lol)

Is there a way to verify this ?
I don't want to send it to assistance :/

Unresponsive Touch Screen & Case "clicking" sound

Well, I didn't wanted to create two threads so I merged my two questions into a single thread instead.
1st, to my notice whilst playing games(tested on inotia 3, destinia), there are several occasions whereby the touch screen would not work(my character is not attacking so I know its not working) then after 2 - 4 seconds then it would work again.
Is there any solutions to this problem?
p/s: HTC Gestures is disabled btw.
2nd, I noticed a "clicking" sound when I press the bottom part of my One X. I am okay with the sound but will it lead to any possible defects in the future?
I get both these issues, the clicking is more noticeable when typing and is only happening in certain, areas

I had already done these from day 1, but its still happening(except that I enabled usb debugging).
most likely the clicking is causing the rattle sound from the camera
no reason to worry

the sound comes from the specific area(it happens at all sides of the phone) that I pressed so I think its not the camera?
none of this may help, but my brother put a screen protector over his GS II and it wasn't as responsive as mine was.
but touching the screen shouldn't make a clicking noise unless it's the game sounds. you are either pressing too hard or you need a new phone before the whole thing comes apart.

Mine wasn't on screen protector, still naked. I am touching the case of the phone(the sides, the exterior part) that produced the sound.
p/s: the 1st and 2nd are two different questions, not related at all
I've noticed my HOX screen becomes unresponsive quite often, usually I have to press the power button to knock the screen off, then press it again and unlock but 9 times out of 10 it goofs up the game I'm playing. Happens a lot on Angry Birds.
So much for this being HTC's flagship device, so far I've been nothing but disappointed with it and its ridiculous manufacturing faults (also suffering from flickering screen, crap signal etc.)

Yeah, and since my country's currency is not as high as USD, so the price of this phone is elevated by a bigger margin(so I need to fork out more money to buy it) so it kinda disappoints me though
but what I am more concerned is that,
1. Is there a fix for the unresponsive touch screen?
2. Do I need to go for an exchange for the case "clicking" sound?
p/s: I am on the OTA 1.2.8 Asia Region
1. Probably not until kernel source is released.
2. Yes, mine doesn't click at all.

For the 2nd one, for some weird reason, after I had pressed it for many times, the screen doesn't have that sound anymore

Now you mention it I remember seeing somewhere that the cases on some one x's weren't pushed in properly and the solution was to press down hard on a certain spot and it would click into place, that's probably what you just did. I will see if I can find the thread.

oh, there's only slight sound btw. And for a weird reason, after I pressed it, one side of the screen flex is gone, leaving the lower left hand side still intact.
yeah but probably you should still trade it in. No problem with responsiveness of touchscreen on any I had
Uhm, mine is absolutely not clicking and I don't have any touchscreen problem.
Perhaps it happens only on some applications?

Not really sure about that, since it occurs once in a while
Mine is ALWAYS unresponsive when plugged in, right pain in the arse. Likely software though hopefully they'll fix in next ota

Knock on and keeping G3 in a pocket

I love Knock on feature but after 4 days of active phone use I find it rather annoying!
I usually carry a phone either in a back pocket of my jeans or in a shirt's pocket.
So every time there is a little pressure on the screen it turns it self on and weird/random things start to happen to home screen.
I don't use password or swipe protection, so when I wake up the phone it immediately goes to a home screen.
The knock on sensor seems a bit underdeveloped. It needs to be less sensitive to non-finger pressure.
Basically after 4 days I gave up and disabled it.

I have the same problem, I disable Knock on unwillingly...
The quickcircle case prevents this issue (and looks pretty snazzy, too).
I suffer from this prolem too. The weird thing is, the first 3 Days with the phone, this problem was no problem...I don't know why, but since yesterday, it appears frequently...Maybe I wear other trousers? I don't know. The sensor on the front should prevent the phone from waking up while in the pocket, you can test iot working by cover the front sensors and then "knock on"...it won't work. That is exactly what should happen inside the pocket, but however, it does not work properly for me!
Just curious. How did you know the phone was on because of the knock on and not because the power button was accidentally depressed?

Hmm, I carry my phone in my jeans pocket all the time, and this is not a problem to me. Knock on never seems to trigger when I don't want to.
I have had no false starts from using knock on at all, I even tested with lots of different materials to see if it would work.
If it is causing you such problems why don't you use a knock code?

Just like these two guys, I have no issues with knock-on - if anything when I take it out of my pocket I have to triple tap sometimes to get it working.

It is a very risky workaround and i'm aware of that
but the thing is, even with any type of security the screen will turn on once it gets inside the pocket and it wouldnt turn off..
so theres definitely something wrong with the proximity sensor..
anyway i solved my problem by using the QC case.. and apart from this issue it's a great case overall
this happens to me too, but only with loose pockets. when i'm wearing my office attire, theres no issue. But when i'm in shorts during the weekend, it turns on by itself and it gets quite annoying. sometimes it'll open apps and start typing gibberish.

Knock On Not working properly

Hi, everyone. So I have an LG G4 for more than a year now and I am very pleased with its performance. I did have an issue with sometimes the audio is stuck after a call but I think it more has to do with bad reception as I noticed so its rare this days. However, lately something happened with the knock on feature which I cannot figure out at all. Sometimes it just doesn't work. I tap and nothing happens. The power on button is working perfectly but the knock on is unresponsive. I fiddled with the proximity sensor but it's not it. Sometimes it just stops working for 5-6 times and then it works and the again it doesn't. There is no pattern. When it's powering on the feature works with no hiccups but after that it's like the cpu forgets to monitor the process. I don't know. I have tried calibration and it works with no problem for a few minutes and then it goes back again to this stutter. Does anyone have any ideas about this? I am thinking factory reset but the hassle would be pointless if the problem persists and I am in no mood to install all those apps I have from the beginning for no reason. Any hep will be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I am experiencing the same issue but mine Knock on is a bit delaying.. for an example, I double tap on the screen and it gives response in 3-4 mins or not... I am suspecting from screen protector which has been mounted for almost a year, it could be corrupted(scratch) Give a try on removing the screen protector(if you have any)
It's a hardware problem. Many threads online about it

Is your case or temp glass protect over prox sensor. That can affect it bad. Also scratches on glass over prox sensor. If not. Then more than likely hardware related.
No the screen protector does not cover the prox sensor. It's cut out as it should be. I am starting to think it's a hardware problem. The thing is why now?!

No. I haven't touched it at all yet. I am pretty satisfied with the performance so I left it alone. The only thing worth mentioning is that I overheated taking a lot of pictures during an event. Maybe this did a number on it!
I have been discussing the issue with a technican today. It is a hardware issue, you cannot fix it. Apparently, the proximity sensor dies after ~2 years - at least somewhat. Why somewhat?
Check this out: You can check the status of your sensor using MINIOS, type *#546368#*815# (n.b. - swap 815 for your model number).
Now click device test - MT - ok - Individual Item - Sensor test - WAIT!
The proximity sensor will run a test and likely come up with a figure between 60~90. The actual value should be 220+.
Meaning: Your phone thinks it´s ~6-9 cm away from your face, that is not enough to trigger knock-on but it´s far enough to be triggered using the backside button.
My knock on doesn't work, but knock off does. Not a major issue, just annoying!

Keyboard lags horribly when I charge the phone.

Ok, this is the weirdest problem I've ever had with a phone.
Whenever I'm charging the phone if I try and use the keyboard it lags heavily, I can't even write properly because it just presses the wrong letters and when I try and press the delete button it takes a lot of presses before that starts to work, I feel like that's the button that works the less.
It's pretty crazy that I can type normally then I connect the cable and 3 seconds later the keyboard just becomes completely garbage.
I tried using different apps(Chrome, Telegram X, Google) and also different chargers/cables(its charger and cable, another cable connected to the PC) but the problem still persists, no need to say I tried restarting the phone already. I also tried to see if the lag was more general but it really seems like it's only the keyboard since I've been able to use apps just as fast as when it's not connected.
If any of you is wondering I'm using Android Pie with Gboard.
Yeah me too...
I had such issues after my phone got short circuited. The storage itself was okay, but the battery and the micro USB both died. The resolution was to get the GBoard to factory settings and updating it anew. No clue if it will help in your case, but it solved the issue here.
i think it might be a eletrical problem.
are you using a fullscreen glass protector?

maybe another protector will help if its really that bad.

I don't have the phone. Is the anomaly only present in that mode? Run some more tests.
If the hinge is not operating smoothly and especially if out of alignment it should be repaired soon... to avoid collateral damage to the display.

That's the test mode so it might be it detecting a hardware fault. There's no reason it should be glitching on its own if you're not providing any inputs. A Samsung Experience center at best buys can run additional diagnostic tests on it.

I wouldn't be concerned with that then. As long as everything else is operating normally.
Screen Test gives a better look at display performance.
You may need a newer version then this:

Strange... must be a Fold thing. Don't see that on my N10+ when I run device test. As long as it passes the tests it's just a harmless Fold anomaly.
I would keep a close eye on the hinge though. Probably should have it looked at.
Mine does this to its nothing to worry about it must be part of the vibration test
