[Q] CM10.1 v6.3 App/Freeze Problems - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey xda, I recently bought the HTC Desire second-hand at a phone store in London and loved it. My friend informed me about rooting and custom ROMs and I just had to do it. I rooted my phone without problem and then flashed CyanogenMod10.1 v6.3 (JellyBean 4.2.2) onto it and all was working fine but because of the internal memory problems on the desire, I partitioned my 2GB sd into 1gb ext4 and 1gb fat32 to give some room to install apps.
I then realised i hadnt run the a2sd scripts it says to run on the thread for CM10.1, so i reflashed the ROM and ran them. My phone was working fine for a while, but when i tried using my 3G connection to download something, the phone froze for a few minutes and then the CM boot screen came up again.
Now this is where it gets head-wrecking. When the boot screen finally finished, i was on my lock screen and tried to enter my password, the system was really laggy, and it took me about 4 minutes to enter my password and when i unlocked it froze again and went back to the CM boot.
Sometimes the boot gets stuck in a bootloop, and sometimes the system just boots normally and works fine. But when it does work, some apps (random each time the phone is booted) close on opening them ("Unfortunately, contacts has stopped working") and can freeze at any time randomly (mainly when i try to open google play store or turn on my 3G)
I'm not sure where I went wrong or why it's doing this..
It could be because its second-hand (although I doubt it because it was working 100% perfectly before i rooted and flashed it).
It could be I partitioned the sd wrong or didnt give any to the SWAP partition. (using 4-ext recovery to partition)
I don't really know..
Please if anyone has had the same problem (random freezing then rebooting with some apps not working sometimes) or knows what i can do, i would be so grateful. I love this phone and I'm in love with Jellybean too so if I can get it running smoothly with no issues, I will be so happy.
(in time between writing this and posting it, my phone seems to work with apps but can freeze at random still)
My phone details:
-Revolutionary-
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
MICROP-051d
RADIO-5.11.05.27
And thanks for reading

Well with jellybean there are disadvantages. No jb ROM will be as fast or stable as gingerbread. You can try doing a full wipe and reflashing the ROM. If you're still getting lots of freezing maybe try some other jb ROMs. (ChromiumROM in my sig is pretty smooth)
The problem could also be your sdcard so try some others if have.
Also you have an outdated radio. Try updating to the latest and see if that solves anything.

After using it for the last week, I can confirm that the phone works perfectly 100% no crashes without my sim card in it. It will only freeze and reboot if the sim card is in it.. how do i fix this? Is this a problem with the radio?

[Q] Problems getting stable ROM

Phone was originally O2 UK, officially unlocked. Voda SIM
Rooted using Unrevoked (in OSX)
Radio 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
EDIT: Actually the radio reported as RADIO-5.10.05.23 in initial Recovery Hboot
I'm quite happy with clockwork recovery, wiping data (factory reset), cache partition, dalvic and do this between each flash attempt.
I've not loaded the phone with widgets or apps. Just ChompSMS, gMail, twitter etc
I'm having a real problem getting a stable ROM flash.
LeeDroid 2.2f (A2SD) was my first flash, boots fine, runs fine then seemingly random crashes usually resulting in O2 startup screen boot loop. Sometimes removing battery enables immediate reboot, sometimes when battery reinserted it goes into a tighter bootloop (O2 initial startup screen rolls round faster between boots). I really like the ROM and would love to get it stable.
Defrost 6.1 : Boots, allows me to complete the initial setup, then locks up solid as soon as it moves to the Homescreen
OpenDesire 3.0.6 : Seemed OK till I just rebooted it, then it froze at the ANDROID logo boot screen
I'm starting to wonder if it could be the SD card. It's an 8gb, only class2 - Have a class6 on order
If I wanted to return this to the standard would I flash an O2 or a Voda HTC Desire Sense ROM. The original ROMS I've seen for download aren't rooted and contain Radio - is this an issue ?
I just want to get this phone stable, I can't trust it and have had to switch back to iPhone3GS !
I think the SD card is the issue. Class 2 is just to slow. I assume you use an ext3 partition. If think that if you update to at least a class 4, you will be fine.
This is because a lot of apps run from the SD card. And when the card is to slow, android will crash. This happend to my brother when running android on his HD2 from the SD card. When using a faster card everything was stable.
Thanks, I'll put up with it until my class6 arrives. Seems a little better running latest OpenDesire, but locked up solid today just using (standard) Web Browser, battery out, 2 tries to reboot it.
If no better what RUU do I need to use to restore the phone?
Would it be an O2 one as that's what the phone originally was, and what the initial boot scren still is. A voda one as thats the SIM in the phone or just a generic Euro HTC sense one ?
TIA
Leedroid will be stable with the stock sd card and ext partition, so a class 2 should not cause the problem.
Are the 'random' crashes during heavy load or really random? If it's under heavy load you might have a faulty motherboard.
If you want to unroot you need the RUU that matches the software info from the original O2 rom.
They appear to be quite random, but I'm not sure what's going on in background at the time.
However they all seem to happen when doing network (3G) operations. Last one in LeeDroid was after scanning a product barcode using Barcode app. Previously it was sending/receiving SMS, Browsing etc.
OpenDesire (APP2SD) never rebooted, that ROM just locked up requiring a battery remove.
I've now updated to Modaco r9 rom without APP2SD which failed initially (it included an older radio). I updated the radio to latest version and so far I've not had a reboot crash or a lockup (touches wood). I've stuck with the Sense Launcher, rather than trying Launcher Pro, which I prefer.
So all the ROMS I tried previously had APP2SD, the seemingly stable one I'm running now hasn't. The EXT partition on this card was created using ROM Manager. When I get my next card do you think it would be worth creating the partition using Linux (I'll boot a VM of Ubuntu) or does Rom Manager do the same job.
TIA

[Q] HD Roms crashing / freezing / restarting

I can not install a HD rom on my partners Desire without it either locking up / freezing in use, power button to unlock the phone will light the buttons but doesn't power the screen or phone just restarts. Stock rom has run perfect for near a year never any issue and I have been running Starburst ROM with DATA2SD for 24 hours without any problems.
It seems that HD roms just won't work!??! It feels like CPU/GPU hang ups perhaps from the different voltage/clockspeed they use? In any case here's what I did maybe I'm missed something.
This is a launch desire locked to T-Mobile with all the latest updates. I have rooted the Desire using the latest unrEVOked and there has been no problems with this. I partitioned and formatted the 4GB SD card to 2.2gb FAT32/1GB EXT4/300mb EXT4/125mb Swap using gParted and full wiped all (data, cache & Dalvik) of phone using clockwork recovery 2.5.0.7 and installed SupeROM v2.0 D2EXT. This wouldn't run for very long at all without locking up or restating.
So I wiped all and installed SupeROM v1.5 D2EXT and this was the same.
So I tried another SD Card and problems were still there.
Reformatted SD Card to 2.2gb Fat32/1.5gb EXT4 using gParted
Wiped all and installed SupeROM v2.0 D2WE this ran for longer but would still restart or lock-up.
Full wipe again and installed RCMIXHD v3.0 D2WE This would last the longest but would still lock up or restart phone.
Deleted all partitions on SD card and formatted it all to FAT32 restored data and Nandroid backup so phone was back to a rooted stock. Phone ran fine for hours.
Installed Starburst ROM with DATA2SD and this has been running perfect for near 24 hours uptime.
Any suggestions?
Just to add I've rooted my Desire and Installed SupeROM v2.0 D2EXT without a problem and that runs perfect.
1.5GB ext4 partition is generally too big. Maybe the SD isn't class 6 and can't run Data2SD right. Maybe an explanation of why it isn't running right.
I used a two SD cards with various partition formats and sizes the lock-ups are still there.
Something else I've noticed is that each time the phone restarts the date/clock resets to 00:00 6/01/1980.
Maybe just a bad flash of the rom. Reflash it without a wipe and see if it helps. Try another rom to see if it's hardware issue.
Tried a few roms and the only ones that don't lock up the phone are the non HD roms. I think it could be hardware fault, but it really does run fine with stock rom and starburst rom so I at a loss as to what hardware is at fault, since surely the hardware would cause problems with non HD roms.
I'm going to keep trying different roms and see which works best. Could be all irrelevant soon once an official GingerSense rom is released.
I have the same problem (black screen with lighted buttons) and I have seen it with official 2.2, starburst 1.3.3.1 and 1.3.3.3 (data2sd 0.7 and x1). Could be a hardware fault. Can I be so unlucky? I have already had it for service for overheating-bootloop
Cool HD v9 DATA2SD works with no problems. It's a HD Rom and it's very stable and very fast so it does the missus.

Are you experiencing any lag? Especially with Sense frequently reloading itself?
I'm not, no. It's really quite stable and a very smooth rom.
Sometimes custom skins crash and revert back to standard sense skin but the phone is still usable.
try to flash a RUU. Then root your phone again etc
It had solved many problems i had before.
Hope it helps you.

[Q] Cyanogem Mod loop

Hey guys, I've looked at other threads but I just can't seem to find the solution. I've installed the new Cyanogenmod. I've installed the ROM and when the phone reboots, I keep getting the 'Touch Android to begin'-screen. No matter what I do, nothing works. I've done full swipes, reboots, tried to only install CM7 (where before I had the Radio and Google Apps as well). Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
First give some info:
what recovery are you using
s-on or s-off
what hboot - bravo or cm7
how is your sdcard partitioned
i was using CyanogenMod 7 and never got problems.
So, your phone works normally but every time you reboot you have to do the setup from beginning?
Or, does it freeze on the "touch the Android..." screen?

[Q] InsertCoin 1.1.1 A2SD+ Stock HBOOT crash - hangs

Dear fellow Desire owners,
i really like my InsertCoin rom but it's getting on my nerves lately. It crashes or hangs frquently. I see the lockscreen but nothing happens except when I pull the battery.
This has been happening more and more. Sometimes I notice my phone has been hanging for an our or so. I then have to remove the battery to get it working again.
I first thought it was the radio so I flashed it with version: 5.17.05.23 but things are getting worse. This morning I had to use the navigation but it kept hanging. At last I reverted to a NANDROID backup I made a week ago.
My question now is: how can I find out what is buggering my phone? Is there a log or an app that can do some troubleshooting? Is it an app that makes my Desire so miserable? How can I know this? Please help me.
Thanks!
Go back to stock rom to find out if it's the rom. If problem persits, call HTC.

Before you reflash again your Desire, you can check and format your sdcard.
Or change a new sdcard and faster speed.
If the same issue, it might be hardware issue on Desire.
Because I used IC ROM from 1.1.0 to 1.1.4, every version is so far so good.
So what you're saying basically is that there's no way of checking logs or troubleshooting or whatever?
So I did a full whipe and installed v1.1.3. Which went well for a week or so, but then it started crashing again on a daily basis.
I went ahead and bought myself a class 10 8GB sdcard. I just copied everything and did a nandroid restore. See if that works... And if that doesn't do the trick i'll try a full wipe and fresh install again.
Same problem
Hi,
I have exactly the same issue, could you give me the result of your experience with your new sd card ?
It's an old post but I would like to have an answer to my problem.
Thanks
All versions of insertcoin Rom were perfect... What class card do u use???
I use class 4... Works perfectly.....

[Q] CM7 Random Reboot and RE Setup Issue

Hi,
I am having a really odd and very frustrating issue with the latest CM7 Stable Build on my device.
I have been using the latest stable since its release back in November.
I ensured a clean wipe and install of CM 7.1.0.1 and setup my phone accordingly and Nandroid Back Up around a Week later as the Device was behaving as intended.
Sadly, I am now plagued with the following issue which occurs without any common trigger....
I will be using the device which will be behaving normally and it will suddenly, normally when screen is off... reboot and enter a Boot Loop (CM7 Robot will either be frozen solid or will keep rebooting to CM7 Robot) which seems to continue until a battery pull.
I will then restart the device and it sometimes boots straight away though sometimes hangs for a while. Once booted it boot to the 'Setup your device' Screen, from which point onwards you are required to Re-Enter your Logins for Google and such like. All settings and sync profiles are normally missing/deleted so requires setting up of all apps requiring logins etc.
As you can imagine, the above is quite an inconvenient as it normally happens when I actually need to use the device
I have tried reinstalling a clean CM7 over the top as well as wiping and formatting the SD card.
Neither seem to have solved the issue.
Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.
It is also worth noting that while the device will charge off USB, it will not allow usb tethering or any form of USB Mounting etc.
Cheers
Jason

cm7 issues.
sounds like your in quite a pickle my friend.
i used to get your reboot issues (the bootloops) but that was because my phone was overclocked to over 700. i never got the setup device screen though.
when you say youve tried a clean install over cm7 have you factory reset the device as well as deleteing the dalvik cache??
also my sound stupid but have you tried your backup to see if it starts again??
it sounds like something has became quite corrupted.
have you installed any new apps recently or changed anything in the system files of the phone?
also when you have to go through the set up are all your apps still there afterwards? And when you first flashed it did the tethering work at all?

Yup and while it does restore to a point where I can use my phone quite quickly after however I'm very cautious after - typically it happens a couple of weeks later

No real new recent apps installed and no mods to the system files that I can recall.

All my apps are still installed but many apps require re-setup or accounts for sync require re-adding. Phonebook requires import of contacts however messages remain in place.
I can't recall I think it did or at least USB-Storage did
Do you have a SD ext partition?
I ask because I had similar problems (randomly losing data) with an ext 4 partition, repartitioning my card using ext 3 solved it, also put your dalvik cache and data back into phone memory if it isn't already as that can also cause instability.

Try this....
Run an RUU for wildfire.
- Download (RUU_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.14.405.2_R_C_Radio_13.45.55.24 _ 3.35.15.19_release_141106_signed) from android forums.
- Connect phone to PC and run RUU
- This downgrads phone OS to eclair (android 2.1)
- Let it do the bizniss
- Re-root with unrevoked 3
- Re-Flash CM7 and gApps
Many thanks Scratch and Arkose,
Since my post last week I have since formatted the SD Card as well as Wiping the Phone as much as possible.
I then flashed and installed the latest CM7 Stable, Radio Package as well as re-setting up the EXT Partition this time as Type 3.
Once up and running I reinstalled all Apps.
Seems to be running okay so far.
Long may it last hopefully.
If not will try last suggesion
Great stuff. Let us know how it goes

A quick update...
Still having issues
I'm noticing that randomly phone process will crash for no apparent reason/cause, normally when off Wifi and on Mobile Data.
Last night was the worst its even been though... at a critical moment when I needed the phone to work... it decided it was having none of it.
Phone kept switching Airplane Mode On and Off causing process.android.com to crash along with most other services So I rebooted only to find that it now was either stuck in Airplane Mode or couldnt enable to Radio (No Phone Signal at all) so I did a battery pull while trying to walk home in the pitch black and rebooted.
The Saga continued even after a battery pull, I eventually as I got in the door was able to use the 'Torch' and recieve a phonecall before all the processes crashed once more...
So I did a battery pull, left the phone for five mins and rebooted. All was well for a while, enabled Wifi, phone seemed happy.
Had to reboot a short while ago, after recieiving a phonecall and text.... grrr... anyone have any suggestions?
I had problem with process restarting. Adw launcher process I downloaded Go Launcher ex I have no problems now.
