I have no idea why HTC did not attach a belt clip to the case that comes with it, but that my solution: I took an old mobile phone belt clip case and cut the back (with the belt clip) away. That i glued to my Universal Case with hot glue. works perfectly and looks good (the old case was black also).
Let me know if you like that idea, Regards, The Modifier
Hey good idea, got any pics?
Here comes the picture. BTW, this is the best PDA holder i ever had.
Because it is hanging vertical, i can take it out of the holder with one hand without having the holder coming of my belt.
The Modifier, this is great.
How well do you find that hot glue is working though.
In the light of what Pier Frama said about belt clips and the weight of the Universal, do you think it will withstand getting caught in things, etc?
Definitely, if the holder would get caught i belief that the clip would break rather than the glue getting off (from my expierience hot glue works best if "massaged" into the material. i even had a hard time getting the excess glue of the leather. I also think about putting some non-slip material on the parts of the MDA that i touch when i pull it out - any suggestions? Greetings, The Modifier.
for a sand paper feel you could try skate board deck tape (could double as a nail file)
or for a rubber finish try your local sailing supplies for rubber deck tread.
let us know how it goes.
belt clip
After some weeks the hot glue started peeling of the case leather, as you told me (leaving it unharmed) so i did use super glue around the edges. Works fine for 2 weeks now. Apart from that, i am still perfectly happy with this solution, the clip never came of my belt, and will stay on my belt when i take the MDAPro out single handed.
Greetings, The Modifier
I use the case that shipped with my ipaq 6315, Works great. A guy on e-bay is selling them for 5.95.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5771486213&category=15036#ebayphotohosting
I don't know about this guy, but you can also find it on the web for 20 to 30 dollars us.
see this picture or the ebay site for sample
Umm, the Universal is 9 mm longer, 5 mm wider and slightly thicker than the 6315. How tight is the fit?
I followed the same approach to modify the original JJ case. I managed to add a belt clip to it. I use a cell phone universal belt clip that I got from the 99c store for just 99c (Belkin brand). Rather than stick it in the back (I think its not secure considering the JJ weight), I chose to punch a hole and slide the belt clip attactment from inside out, then attach the belt clip.
Its very tight indeed but I feel secure when clipping it to my belt. And I could take the JJ in and out single handed.
This is what I ordered:

I bet that if you took this to a leathersmith or an awning/canopy maker, you could have this stitched together and not need the glue.
Hey,
This is what I did to the original O2 Xda Exec case. I also added a belt clip there.
In Winter time, I can put the device in the jacket but what about Summer. Luckily, this website inspired me!!!!
Cheers,
Just a quick confirm that the TMo/6315 case fits the Uni very well.
Nice case with clip

This one looks pretty good... and not too expensive. Anyone have this one?

Good news for all you Proclip fans,
I just recieved mine today and it works with the Samsung Extended battery just as well as the standard battery. There is a 1/2 in space behind the phone that should allow for even the most extreme extended batteries to fit as long as the battery cover does not extend beyond where the original battery cover fits (like if it wraps around the side of the phone it will not fit).
I ordered Proclip part number 513331 (Hard wired install).
Proclip doesn't disappoint either, this mount is just as awesome as the one for my old DINC. Nice and sturdy.
I'll post some pics later when I get it installed.
As is typical with proclip mounts, the mount is designed based on the physical dimensions of the phone (specifically the sides of the phone) so cases that change those dimensions will cause the phone to not fit in the grooves correctly.
Pix of the proclip in action
Grabbed a couple of pics for anyone interested.
Looks good, I had the incredible one too, but imo it was a little to hard to get in and out. Unfortunately since I already chipped my phone, I'm too scared to go naked with this phone. Plus their price is just too high for me.

I wont argue that they are spendy - I already had the base part but it's like $100 for both pieces for newbies.
But I do get something that no other mount has been able to offer me - this one is wired into the car, I can use only one hand to put my phone in it, and it doesn't fall or move when I press too hard. Considering the Verizon one is $40 and a POS it seemed worth the extra.
But yea if you have a case it's not so good.
does you phone fall if you turn the screen for navigation ?
I just ordered Proclip's adjustable mount 875214. Hopefully it will work well with my diztronic case. It grips near the bottom of the phone so it shouldn't interfere with any of the buttons or ports. I'll update after it arrives with the results!

Should be good, as it is adjustable. I wish they made the sides of the powered mount adjustable...

Well for those who aren't aware, these Proclip holders come in 2 pieces: The first is a custom-fit bracket for your particular vehicle, and the other is the actual phone holder.
So let me start with the holder. The one I got is adjustable and holds my Galaxy Nexus with Diztronic case extremely well. It's snug but not difficult to remove, and leaves plenty of room behind the phone for the craziest of extended batteries. A+
Then there's the mounting bracket... I selected 853616 for my '07 Impreza. It hooked in behind the panel just fine and it is made of the same plastic as the holder which was nicer than I expected.
Unfortunately, it goes downhill from here: This particular bracket is a bad fit. All the angles are off, and as a result the adhesive backed sections do not contact the vehicle properly. Even if they did, the adhesive is so weak that I'm not sure it would stick. I'm going to have to pull it all apart and go to work with some thick double-sided adhesive tape of my own in order to deal with the gaps and get it installed properly. Not cool, especially considering the whole kit ended up costing me about $60. Now, there's lots of different brackets for lots of different cars out there, so your mileage may vary.
At any rate, it does a much better job holding the phone than my cupholder did.
Got mine a couple of days ago.
As has been noted, they come in two pieces. The piece that holds the phone is very, very nice and will definitely work with any reasonable extended battery. It's very snug, but not too snug, and the fit is perfect. I got one of the powered versions and it's fantastic.
The car mount piece, for me, is of similar quality. The fit is near stock and the thing is damn near impossible to remove.
As a unit, the two pieces are rock solid.
Highly recommended. I wouldn't hold out for the Samsung three pin holder. I had that same holder (minus the three pins, obviously) for my Nexus S - and this one is far, far, far better.

How snug of a fit is it? I have Verizon galaxy nexus with extended battery and Diztronic case. Does it take quite a bit of pressure to put it in the holder? Also, is the headphone jack open at the bottom?

That's what I had to do for my wife's Civic. She got the car mount that affixes to the center console and that one piece of double sided tape just wasn't cutting it. I used a heat gun to remove the factory tape and then liberally applied tape to all parts contacting the console. It's been holding steady for over a year.
Proclip should probably give people more sticky tape - but I think the reason they only use a single piece is because they tout that the proclip doesn't damage the car and it could be argued that uber liberal amounts of double-sided sticky tape could potentially damage some surfaces. In the civic it’s all plastic so it’s NBD to use a heat gun and remove any residue, but if was a BMW with an oak dash then I could see people complaining.

I don't think any case would work with the proclip because it is a very snug fit and yes it takes a fair amount of pressure to put it in. Not so much that it will move the dock but certainly enough to keep the phone from coming out accidentally.
The only reason the extended battery works is because there is nearly a 1 inch opening behind the phone and the battery cover does not extend to the edge.
Yes the headphone jack is open but you would need a connector that is straight. A 90 degree connector would not work.
By pure chance I found out that my SIII with its slimline cover fitted works perfectly in my Garmin Nuvi 205 dash mount.
Secure and easy to mount, almost as if it was made for the S3.
The Garmin Part Number
Item 010-10936-00 Suction cup with bracket (Nuvi 2xx series)
Cost is around $10 - %15
Cover is a Cygnet BlackFrost Matte slim case (around $20)
I love finding a really good cost effective solution for my toys!!
Video Clip. Please excuse poor sound quality, had to dig out my old Olympus compact to make this,
Thanks, looking forward to the video.
good to know since Garmin has quality mounts.
Does it actually clip in? Is it firm?
If you remove the case, hows the fit?
Fits snugly, clips into the mount as if it was made for it,
Doesn't work without the cover though, phone is just to small,
Would be possible rather easily I might add to put some shrink tubing on the arms of the mount and build it up a little to hold the phone naked!
I wonder if it would fit with a tpu case. Your case seems pretty slim

Thanks for the find. Do you think it would be able to fit the S3 with an Otterbox Commuter case on? My phone's approximately 7.7mm wide with the case on.
Cheers
Might fit but it would be tight, the rounded edges of the Cygnett case allows it to clip into the holder the otter box might be to square

my garmin gps always falls off from the windshield now..the suction cup doesn't hold..don't know how i'd feel putting my phone there..
am i suppose to wash it with soap or something to make it work again?

You should get a replacement one...They are super cheap on eBay. I have one that is over 7 years old (*back when standalone GPS units were +$300!) and it still works great.

Search for Kropsson Aero universal mount.
the design of the mount was a great plus.

couldn't have said it better myself!!!!
I can confirm this mount works great with the rock quicksand case. Easy to put in and take out and holds rock solid. Before the case showed up I had used a couple pieces of heat shrink tubing held on with electrical tape and it worked awesome with the naked galaxy s3.
I like this style of mount because you can position the phone with it gripping the middle, top or bottom to fine tune where the screen is in relation to your windshield.
I went with this one though, instead of one of the $5 options: (replace spaces with ., I don't have enough posts to post links) www amazon com/gp/product/B0042PJ8NY/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00[/url]
It's the actual oem garmin mount instead of a knockoff, and judging by the reviews the difference is the mount that holds the ball is made of metal, so it won't break. It came with one of the 3m PE Foam adhesive backed discs for mounting to the dashboard as well. Highly recommended.
I just tried it. PERFECT fit with my diztronic TPU case. Thanks OP!
I'm looking for a Tripod to record video's with my S2 without holding the phone.
The video's will be for reviews to upload to YouTube, obviously using your hands to to hold the phone and record will look unprofessional.
So has anyone used a tripod or know of a cheap enough tripod that works and is suitable for a galaxy s2.
I've already looked on eBay and Amazon, there are some there, but not convinced on them.
Thanks in advance.
Aaron.

Tripod with Bracket
Hi,
I owned already a mini-tripod for a camara (Amazon has several on sale, mine is a Cullman). So I tinkered a bracket to hold my phone (actually a Lenovo China phone:
- you need some tools to work metal (bench vise; saw or angle grinder; hammer; file; sandpaper; drill)
- a strip of alumin(i)um, about 1 mm thick;
- a piece of thin leather (suede is the best, never throw away worn leather clothes) or soft fabric like velvet;
- all purpose glue, like Pattex
Cut the strip of metal to the needed length and width.
Form with bench vise, hammer and a round piece of metal which is about as thick as your phone (a drill bit f.e.) hooks at the end of this strip. The phone must fit loose into this bracket.
Smoothen the surface with file and sandpaper.
Drill a hole a little smaller than the screw an your tripod into the lower hook. If you have a fitting threader, use it. If not, force the screw into the hole and let the screw cut a thread.
Glue leather or fabric on the bracket, on the inside of course, but also on the outside if you like.
Adjust the hooks with the help of strong pliers, if necessary.
Enjoy.
Here you see mine:
Does anyone with an OGP in a hybrid kickstand style case (or something of similar size), have a 3D printer?
I'm looking to get a 3D printing of the phone in the case, so I can make an attempt at producing one or possibly many high quality belt holsters for this phone.
I cannot just use my own phone and case as there would be high humidity and high pressure involved. A plastic printing would allow me to "bone" or mold the leather for a precise fit.
I'm tired of the run of the mill cheap quality cases that abound on Amazon. After a few months, they all seem to start to fall apart!!! My amazon case had the belt clip break off after about 3 months. It was an extremely thin piece of rusted metal inside a material that I don't even think was leather. The leather(?) belt loops are at the point of failure as I write this.
I'd like to make a real leather case, with a quality belt clip that won't accidentally fall off your belt. I'd also put on some belt loops for some added stability on the belt (if needed). I'd most likely use a pair of neodymium magnets for the closure.
I cannot get started on the project until I have a "replica" that I can start working around, and a 3D printing seems like it would be the most accurate.
So, if anyone can help me out it would be appreciated!!! Just let me know the cost involved in making the "replica", as I have no clue as to the costs of 3D printing materials.
FYI...I have many many years experience in making/tooling/carving leather gun holsters, wallets, handbags, sandals, etc...
Thanks,
Andy
I have the Diablo case from jkase as well as access to a makerbot that we use to make parts for things in our lab (or just to play ). I would be happy to help out, but the main time consuming part is constructing an accurate 3d model of the phone and case. I can see if I ever have a bit of time to put one together, but since I don't do that often, it will take a while (I made a case for my lgog that I had before getting the ogp and giving it to my wife). I had been hoping to make a front cover to attach to my Diablo case and embed a magnet in it so it would work as a folio case, so if a 3d model can be made, that would help that project too.
I know someone a while back had been wanting a model made of the phone so they could print a case, but I don't remember who. I'll look back through the threads and see if they had any luck.
