I have an HTC EVO 4g flashed to Straight Talk. I need to be able to plug the phone into CDMA Workshop or DFS CDMA so I can save the NAM Programming to a file. The problem is, my EVO's USB port is bad, it will not charge or connect to the PC in anyway so I can put it ##Diag# for the programs.I recently purchased a new EVO and I am needing to write the NAM files to it so the phone will work.. As of right now, the only thing that will work on the new EVO is texting. Once I get the new EVO working, I am going to destroy the old one (It has had a very long fulfilling life!).
Thanks in advance for the help!
Without a usb connection you can not access it in either program. Although all the needed info should be accessible VIA epst (##data#) write down needed info and then follow a guide for flashing to your provider.

Thanks for response! I haven't found a guide to flashing an EVO to Straight Talk. Only way I have ever done it was through reading/writing the numbers... I looked at ##DATA# and the names of the numbers didn't match up to the programs, but I will try to decipher it. Thanks for letting me know that I will not be able to back up the NAM files using the 2 programs I listed. Thanks given!
I got it to work now, I followed a guide that flashes to Cricket, then just changed my PRL and Radio, and it now works!

Congrats. Welcome to one of the old but great phones. Fyi only gingerbread roms have all the drivers for the phone to work properly. Ics/jb have no 4g, front camera, hdmi out or fm tuner. I recommend the sense 3.5 roms they have super battery life and work very well. Also the amon ra style recovery is rock solid good backups and restores and it will install every Rom except the new 4.3 evervolv.

Awesome, thanks for the tip on the ROM, I am currently using a MikRom with Sense 2.1 rom.. but I have been watching vids of the 3.5 and I like and am searching right now for a good rom. I am not new to the EVO, I got an EVO the same day it came out with Sprint, but upgraded to a galaxy later without doing my homework on it. I bought the EVO Shift 4g and put it on straight talk, My phone history is Samsung Rant < Samsung Moment < HTC EVO 4g < Samsung Galaxy sII < HTC EVO Shift < HTC EVO 4g... I am in love with HTCs products... my next phone is going to be the HTC ONE.. that thing is a beauty! Thanks again for the ROM Tip.

My friend has tmobile touch pro 2 and wants to know if all the things in forums that apply to at&t TP2 also apply to the tmobile version...
Some things are carrier specific, some aren't. Without you telling us specifically what you are referring to, its hard to say whether there is a difference or not.
oh ok, im not well versed in WinMo. Im an android person myself. But im helping my friend this stuff. So far I upgraded his phone to 6.5.
Theres actually alot that im trying to do. 1st want to be able to run android & possibly dual boot on the tmobile TP2.
I also want to use different skins and plugings like the stuff seen in the forums here & here
Any help would be very much appreciated

well. for android...
download the .cab from here.
install the .cab onto your storage card.
run android. will shut down winmo and boot up android.
and dont forget to thank the android devs, here.
for winmo...
assuming you updated the tilt2 with at&t's official winmo 6.5 rom...
Settings --> Today --> Items tab --> uncheck Sense --> check Windows Default ---> OK --> Soft Reset
that disables Sense 2.5 and enables Titanium.
now.
just install your preferred Titanium theme.
and enjoy.

Thanks 4 the tips I'll try it when I get the chance
It's a tmobile TP2 so I used tmobiles official update rom. So there should be a difference, right?

Did you bother to read at all? The second link that sh4d0w86 provided has what's not working in the very first post under a heading that very clearly says, "NOT WORKING IN THIS BUILD:."
Yea actually I did end up reading it right after I asked the question. I was just being lazy. Thanks for the help though

You'll need the Wifi Router App and a tethering plan. If a carrier determines you to be tethering without it being on your contract, they have the right to surcharge you for it. Most custom ROMs have this app built in.
Ok thanks, Does anyone have any suggestions on some of the best or most stable roms out there?

Do a search. There are hundreds of threads of new users asking which ROM they should use. That's like asking which pants you should wear. It's all about personal preference. Just keep flashing until one of them sticks. I've been doing this for a very long time now, and I still can't stick to just one chef.
I searched the forum and found that some are having difficulty with the Epic 4G tether. After reading, I still need some help please.
I rooted the Epic using the one click method on one of the threads on the forum. About phone says:
Firmware version: 2.2.1
Baseband version: S : D700.0.5S.EC05
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build number: FROYO.EC05
Hardware version: D700.0.5
I installed on the Epic Barnace Tether and WifiTether (the one with the lime green symbol), which were the two most popular in the market.
Unfortunately, when I run the programs, my Xoom doesn't "see" my phone. Our two household laptops do whether I use Barnacle or WifiTether, but my Xoom doesn't list the phone under available wifi networks.
It's been a few months since the last thread that resembled this issue. Is there some consensus as what the easiest/best thing to do is to get my Xoom to see the Epic tethering? Perhaps this should be on the Xoom forum? Not sure.
Thanks for your help.
OK.
From my experience there two things at play here.
Number one, if i am not mistaken some devices have problems connecting to adhoc.
But this is not your problem at all.
Your kernel does not have the necesary stuff to make it work.
You need to install another rom, Simply AOSP, Experience, I can confirm work with tethering. I prefer simply AOSP because its as close to the nexus s as possible. if you still like the old samsung look you can actually switch to it with simply settings and it will be like any other samsung rom.
I had the same problem with both my galaxy s 4g and my epic 4g.
Keep in mind even after you get it working it will only be adhoc support.

OK, thanks....some more help if you would.
So what you're saying is that if I install another ROM, it will work. The name of the ROM I should install is Simply AOSP or Experience. After I install these ROMs, I will be able to tether. Is there a link that will guide me through these steps?
I have a vague idea of what ROMs are, but I don't know what simply settings are. Is there a link where I could read about that?
In your last sentence when you say keep in mind after you get it working it will only be adhoc support........what does that mean?
When I install a new ROM, will the phone lose any other functionality? Is it reversible?
Sorry for all the questions. I was just getting comfortable with rooting and ROMs are a whole new area to me.

OK, I'll check out the videos. I know nothing about ROMs other than the little I have read on this thread in the past 45 minutes or so.
The problem I am having though is that ONLY my Xoom tablet cannot see the phone wifi hotspot. My laptops see it fine and connect to it. Do you think I should be trying to fix this from the Xoom end of the problem vs. the Epic end of the problem? Confused.
I'm leaning toward the Xoom as the problem check out a Xoom forum
doesn't hurt to try

Hi all Got a little issue here running cm10 just flashed from ics looks great runs smooth great job guys but here is the problem no data? I have my epic 4g touch flashed to metro pcs I went thru the instructions several times have wiped everything started over numerous times but still no data. The icons don't come on or anything. At this point I am stuck I have pretty good knowledge on how things work around here if someone can take a moment and point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. I saw another post on no data on cm9 and claims doing a nandroid back up from previous rom then flashing the restoring works but that did not work either was very brief in what he had done so description wasn't very clear. So that I can get a good reply this is exactly what I have at this point: SPH-d710 phone Android ver.4.1.1 Baseband Fh23 Kernel ver. #.).15-cm-g4471ee1 [email protected]#1 CyanogenMod 10-20120901-unofficial-d710 Flashed metro pcs with everything working talk txt web mms. Again Thank you all for any help in this matter these guys do some great stuff and would like to use this software. Keep up the great work guys.
To get data working on non-TW ROMs you have to replace a few files in the ppp folder. I don't have the Metro PCS files though, I only have the Cricket files

Sorry for the REALLY late reply.
This is the thread that lead me in the right direction: http://www.cricketusers.com/sprint-samsung-galaxy-sii-epic-4g-touch/32209-web-cm9.html
And this is the post with the flashable zip: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22162851&postcount=10
It says it works for "alternate carriers" but I'm on Cricket so I'm not sure if it'll work for Metro PCS. You can give it a shot though. Let me know how it goes.
Trying it now thanks will keep you posted on what my findings are thanks again for the pointer fingers crossed.
Was a no go thanks tho hopefully one of the developers will be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks again
Maybe look through this thread? (http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-evo-all-info-here-rom-metrogenmod-7-1-a.html)
Edit: You could try the AOSP web script from this thread also (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795182)
I have the exact same problem but am now on blue kuban for the same reason... if you find a solution let us know i might try cm10 again
I will do some research and update you all on the outcome thanks again for the info
Ok looks like I may have to go into qpst and edit my internet settings but have ran into a snag on cm10 cant get the program to recognize the phone if I could get it to pick up the phone then I can reedit the settings for my data to work but like I said at a snag. Will update as soon as I can figure it out or something changes on the rom to access the modem. Any help would be appreciated.
just flashed cm10 will try something out also after thursday when i have time after school

Found a answer
Ok boys and girls I found the stepping stones to how to make this work now mind you I am still working on it. This is what I have done thus far I went to playstore downloaded apn shortcut as soon as it hits your home screen you can click on it and change your apn settings to whatever carrier you are on then I went to my dialer and typed as follows *#*#4636#*#* this opens a window if you scroll down some you will see it say something other than cdma what you want there is auto cdma (prl) as soon as I did this the data came on now Im not in a good signal area but it came on it only showed 1x tho I do not know if that is because of my area. If anyone can test that and let me know we might have made progress and if I am doing something wrong feel free to tell me what it is. Again any help in this matter is greatly appreciated and if this helps don't forget to say thanks lots of long nights trying to figure this out. :good:
Ok figured out
Finally success the only issue is I'm only getting 1x I flashed the alternative carrier fix then I went to the dailer and typed in *#*#4636#*#* then scrolled down and changed the setting to cdma prl auto and data started working so now Im trying to get answers on 3g coming on sorry took so long to figure out Im still learning myself if you guys need the link I can post it if necessary. Also when you go in and change the setting to cdma prl auto you mayhave to click it a couple times for it to stick it may change itself to unknown just click it againg to cdma prl auto again til you get the data going and then it will stick. If this helps don't forget to say thanks
Lol didn't realize we were on page two didn't see your post I guess my question now is is your 3g working?

Okay, I probably did this in the wrong order ... however I have installed Androxide 3.1.1 [JB] ROM on my phone. The EVO was deactivated when I did this, however I decided to activate the EVO and start using it as my every day phone. The activation went good, except when the Sprint rep asked me to go into system settings to update the PRL, there was no system update. Is this something that can be updated after the ROM has been flashed???
Rob
There may be a way, but I've always had to flash a sense rom to update prl and data profile.
When my kids ask me,"Dad, what does this word mean?" I say bring me a dictionary.......then I smack them with it, and tell them to Google that sh¡t!!!

Thanks! I called back and talked to a second rep who passed me on to their tech department. The Tech just walked through the menus, not finding the same things the 1st and 2nd rep tried to find. Then had me put a couple of codes into the phone, which did nothing. He was then stumped. So I told him, I guess I need to find a stock rom and call back ... he agreed.

You don't have to be on a stock ROM. You only need to be running a Sense ROM that allows you to upgrade your profile and PRL. You can't do that on a AOSP ROM.

I just got an HTC one v from Cricket Wireless and through a bit of patience (which i need badly ) Was able to root it with an AIO kit (Props to the dev of that kit.)
I Recently read that this phone won't be getting Android 4.1 or 4.2 .
I'm wondering (and this is why I posted in general. What roms would be awesome for this little phone and well...I've been all over the net and I'm curious as to "What's cool?"
Would Cyanogen Mod work with this phone?
Would I lose any services (Talk, Text, Data)
I'm aware of the possibility but what are the steps I can take to prevent it/recover from one (if it happens)
I do believe I have the original RUU from another website. and the android SDK on this computer.
I will probably have millions more questions and I am going through the forums, but, I'm interested in hearing what's up. I'm also new here.

Thanks for the welcome
I believe this phone is PRIMO C according to what I've read. Yes, CDMA
Android Ver: 4.0.3
I recently did a TWRP backup (2 hrs ago) with Ver 2.3.3.0
I'm also reading about Slim Bean.
I would like to have the latest os on this phone, eliminate a good percentage of the crap this phone came with (from Cricket) and have a good time. Yes I know it won't run games very well...but the rest is fantastic.
OK Great! Unfortunately some of the roms like Slim Bean have a bug that Forces a reboot randomly. Usually when unlocking your screen. Another problem is that these roms are usually made for Virgin Mobile and that you'll have to modify them for your network. There is a thread that shows this I believe. I would suggest Rhythmic Rom. It's based on CM10 and doesn't have the reboot bug.
Sent from my One V using xda premium
I think I saw a thread on how to modify a rom to match a service provider. Like a text file or something like that. (Best comparison I can make is modifying the morrowind.ini (for the PC Game Morrowind) file to use a specific sound) So I shouldn't have a problem there. (Just found that thread think it's this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2120559&highlight=cricket)
Rhythmic Rom...I did read a thread about that last night. I think the guy's in the process of trying to solve a bug with the phone's 5mp camera not working and video recording crashes. It looks like a good rom. I might want to try to test this rom out on an emulator (if possible)
If I remember CM10 is based off of Jelly Bean, an OS I'd love to have on this phone.
While I'm at it. I'd like to say thanks for your help so far, and thanks to anybody else who jumps into this thread. This is the first time in a while that I feel like a proper n00b at something.
