Currently on Goodness Noteworthy 1.0.8 (4 1.2).
I've tried the latest Illusion & PA 4.3 ROMs. I liked them, both, very much.
The problem is I cannot get a 3g connection with either ROM. I live in a non-LTE area so this is a deal breaker.
It's not my location because I have fantastic 3g on Goodness in the same places.
I tried updating PRL & profile, before flashing, still no connection.
I've seen others are having this problem with those ROMs as well.
I was thinking I might need to flash a 4.2 ROM, that has a good 3g connection, before moving up to 4.3 but now I see people have had the same issue in 4.2.
Any suggestions?

I'm currently running PA 3.99 and 3g and 4g seems spotty. Even wifi is not as reliable. PA 3.99 is my first flashed rom and have been a daily for me...but not sure how much longer i can take it. Thinking about flashing a 4.2.2 rom.

Did you ever get resolution on this? I'm having a very similar issue with AOKP's latest 4.3 rom. I've also noticed that sometimes I can get service if I reboot a few times, but that's a PITA when I'm just trying to listen to streaming music in the car.

I flashed PA 3.99 RC2 a couple of days ago & I've had no problems with 3g connection at all.
There's a lot of chatter about changing your APN in order to fix these kinds of issues but I made no changes.

Yeah. I messed around with changing the APN but still no luck. I guess I'll wait for an update to AOKP like you did with PA. At least my wifi works. Thanks!
I just deleted the "Sprint" APN and it behaves a lot better (not perfect). Need to test more APN configs to try and figure it all out.

The only way I managed to fix this was to flash an older version of Aosp Rom. I'm using cm10.2 and I clean flashed back to a 9/25 nightly.

First of all I'm on AOKP 715 m6. My gps was nonexistent even though it was good on earlier versions. I was running a modded vle radio which i don't remember the source. Anyways, i flashed tdj's modded vle radio in one of his threads and gps initial locked on in less than 5 mins. It then locks on in less than a min after that.
At first i thought it was the kernel, so i flashed different ones, but no changes. however the radio definitely fixed it for me on AOKP.
So to those with gps problems try flashing tdj's modded radios. Sorry for being lazy on my phone and not linking them.

This was discussed months ago. Its the basic reason modded radios were made. Apparently the RILS break GPS. So yes GPS won't work unless you flash one of the modded radios, as you found out by accident lol.

I am not using a modded radio I am using the one that came with the ics official update uvle1. And I am running AOKP M6 7-15. My GPS is the best it has ever been I get instant locks even indoors. And It is accurate too. I have also used other roms and had the same results.

yeah i remembered that discussion, and I flashed a modded radio and it worked for most ROMs. I was then really bothered that my uber great locking GPS was no more... I seriously thought I flashed TDJ's radio because I had a file with the same name in my sd card. So I was bummed and decided to test kernels because thats like testing 2 things at once lol. But yeah I ended up checking the md5 of the modded radio i had on my sd card and it turns out it wasn't the same. Must have gotten it from a different thread even though the file name was the same.
But yeah it's just a little reminder to those who have GPS problems, that even though you may think you have a perfectly working radio... you should just flash TDJ's radio mods just in case.
Just flashed TDJ's modded UCLE1 radio...still no luck with GPS

What do you guys mean when you say "breaks GPS"? I am trying to determine if my problem is similar to yours.
My problem is not really an issue with the GPS but an issue with Google Maps. When I use navigation from point A to point B, say Schaumburg to Chicago, it'll always speak directions as if it's going from point B to point A, although all the on-screen directions are correct.
I uninstalled the app and reinstalled, but have not yet tested to see if that fixed it.

Yes this is what I have to do every time I flash a ROM and GPS breaks. I made a thread about it and there are also 2 more threads. Its a zip file you flash through cwm. Also people don't forget that if you're on cyanogenmod that you have to go into location services, GPS source and tick "use internal GPS". Or else GPS will barely work.

didn't know he had a ucle1 radio, he has a uvle1 radio though maybe try that one.
If it is the first time you're trying to lock on, it might take a while, you should turn off wifi and data while leaving your GPS on. Stand outside with it on for 5-10 mins or so, it should get a lock on. After that your GPS locks quicker the more frequent you use it.
I think a lot of people would expect GPS to lock on right away, this only happens if your phone has recent locks to the GPS. I find it best with wifi and data off and to just leave the gps on and google maps on.
btw i've tried the AGPS patch before, but if you have a crappy radio it still won't connect lol.
Here's the screenshot without data or wifi. This is inside my house. Notice the gps signal has a constant dot in the middle, i know for aokp this means i have locked on.probably the same for cm, not sure about tw, haven't been on that for a month.
Anyways it has went as low as 4m, so pretty good. This is without apply the patch.

Hey everyone, I got the stock ICS from Kies about a month ago, and hated how horrific the WiFi signal was, so I rooted, got a darkside rom, and still stunk. I don't want to upgrade to something that is less powerful, and has a lot less reliability. Does anyone else have WiFi strength issues on ICS in general? I mean I really just want the most stable rom and rooted, but I know I don't want it if it's not 100% ready for day-to-day use and for college, when I can't get a new clockwork mod or something. Any help? Thanks!
Have you checked in wifi settings to see if you are on 2.4 or 5.0 ghz settings? Try them both to see if your signal strength changes

well I'm not sure if I want to upgrade to ICS yet unless it is really as stable as gingerbread, and are you saying I can change that in wifi settings on ICS? And what's the best way to upgrade to ICS? Kies? or another method?

Well, I've had no problems with ics yet. I'm not very happy with tw, too much of it looks just like it did in gb. The Apple-style notifications on the app icons just bug me. And the mail client is just enough like the standard ics email client to be infuriating. (loses selected message list if you accidentally open a message instead of checking the box.)
So I'll be rioting soon and hunting down cm9 or 10.

I keep coming back to stock ics (tweaked with a different launcher and sms app since I despise the tw launcher and messaging apps) since it's usually more stable than the cm10 ports. I haven't had wifi issues on any ROM yet, so this could be a ymmv moment.

This is my first post. I have been rooted, learning, flashing ROMs and other stuff for about a year now. I'm on aero's CM10 10/11 build and ever since I installed it my data randomly goes from 3g to 1xx and signal is always at 1 bar. I don't have any problems when I switch to backups of other ROMs. Is any one else experiencing this and any thoughs would be appreciated.
Also wanted to share that I can go to settings/sounds and reselect my ringtone for a quick fix for audio. I thought it might be helpful to someone but I did not have enough posts to post in thread.

I also have this issue on CM10 based roms, I did upgrade to the latest radio .320 and has helped a little but it still happens from time to time. That is why I keep going back to ICS for now. I think a lot of my problems are my location, I live in a small town and not the best coverage.

Be sure your metal contacts are making good contact with the back plate, I also live in a low service area and service is never really great here, but with my old DX2 it had consistently better signal.

I appreciate the info but I have already tried all the above and I previously and installed the new radio .320 and ics frameware when it was posted on xda. One strong thing to me I noticed it only looses the data connection when I'm on the web or on a app that needs a 3g connection. I'm going to try the 10/16 build tomorrow and see if it changes anything. Thanks

DKStunna has done a pretty good job with his build. It runs nicely, you do get a random FC (force close) every now and again. GSM doesn't work, and MMS doesn't work on verizon until you put in the APN in the thread:
Go to System Settings > More... (under wireless and networks) > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
-Press Menu
-Select New APN
-Put in this info:
Name = Verizon
APN = internet
MMSC = http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
-Press Menu
-Select Save
-Back Button
-Tick the new Verizon APN

after a lot of determination and prior experience with this problem i realized that once you input the same apn a couple of times it eventually registers, i have 8 of the same apns under different names (the names do not have to be specific for data to work)
so i rooted and flashed my moms phone for here. though now i cant get data on any rom i use. Ive tried Cm10, domination, and now liquid smooth. the 3g icon is there and the data activity indicator is blinking the up and down arrows, but the signal bars remain gray with no data. im currently on liquid smooth trying to figure out how to get to my apn settings, but there is no voice dialer app to say "open apns" to. yea i did flash a ics modem (FB15) and im really hoping to fix this quickly, so she can stop flipping out.
before i gave this phone to my mom and jumped to tmobile with a galaxy s4, ive never had problems like this. Also when i had this phone, voice dialer was on every rom, so forgive me for the noobish question of how to get to the apn settings. also, if you can post the current apn settings sprint uses, that would be helpful
EDIT: Flashed Revolt, data still doesnt work but it had voice dialer. opened apn settings but everything seemed fine. but i would still like for someone to post the default apn settings just so i can make sure
Edit 2: with having no luck, odined back to stock. data works fine. will keep stock unitll the issues are resolved

Try putting TW on for your mom. If she likes the feel of stock, she'll love the custom feel of some of the roms out now. And before you flash CM(I recommend dastin1015's Wild For The Night), flash FL24 modem, update prl and profile. See if that helps. And it will have voice dialer too .

Don't know if this is the roms fault or what. I am on the latest nightly (9/19) of Carbon rom and have a Galaxy S3 (I747) with ATT.*I have recently been getting terrible reception and it takes a few minutes to update when I go to a new area. It also seems that I am only getting 2g (2g only is not checked). When I was using stock rom my reception was great and I was getting 4G LTE in the same areas. Don't know if this could be a problem with the APNS (they look fine, currently have it set to phone) or what. I recently did a clean install to see if that would make a difference but it doesn't seem so. Any advice would be appreciated. I also just updated my modem fw to the latest version and it didn't fix the edge problem. The preferred network is on the correct setting as well. I don't believe this is a problem with my IMEI.
Search for the user "meanhacker". He has a fix in his sig that might help u out. :good:
