[Q] Device that would allow me to connect Nexus to tv? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I don't know if there is a specific micro usb cable to hdmi convertor that I need to get in order to play my Nexus 7 to my tv. I don't remember if I read correctly, but I think I remember there being an article saying the Nexus 7 has a difference in its build, in which it needs a specific device to connect itself to an HDMI tv. Not sure though. If anyone has any recommendations, I would appreciate it. I am basically only trying to look at these avi files on my tablet to a tv.

Think all you need is a MHL adapter

Thanks, alright I just bought one at this link if anyone else looking wants to see what to get. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ECU3M22/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

MHL won't work with the Nexus 7(2013). The slim port cable you ordered should work though.

Funny how I gave him the wrong item and he still managed to order the right one

lol

You need a Slimport adapter (Not MHL which is a different competing technology!). Or get a Miracast adapter there are dongles , and use wireless access).

Unless you're running a CyanogenMod 10.2 build in which case, the
Slimport to HDMI function is not yet supported or working.

I use Netgear Push2TV PTV3000 to connect my N7 wirelessly to TV. It works pretty well. You may also want to install iMediaShare app from Google Play store on your N7 for streaming local and online content once connected to your TV.

You can also have a look to Minix Neo X5.
I've got one and it works fine with the Nexus 7 2013 on TV :good:

Tv-out

Hi
Can someone suggest is there any tv out feature in gnex and if yes where can I find settings for the same in my phone.. Like in galaxy s it is there under display, tv out settings..

Not sure what you mean.. there's two major ways to stream content to a TV. 1 use a mhl adapter and an HDMI cable to connect it to your TV.2 use a dlna app from the market like skifta to stream content to a dlna certified TV. Hope I answered you're question.

+1. And before u buy the $40 mhl adaptor from Verizon, check amazon.

Thank you for your support. However I wanted to know that I cannot see any setting on my phone for tv out. Like in the sgs1 there is an option under display settings which needs to be checked pal or ntsc before continuing tv out..

There is no such thing on the galaxy nexus. Using the mhl adapter will not require this at all. All u need is an HDMI cable and the adapter and it will automatically output video and audio to the TV.

Alright Thankyou for the information!

Unless you are referring to a component, composite or s-video only tv. If that's the case I don't think there is an economic option without an hdmi converter. Even then im not sure if it would work. Id be interested if anyone knows of any proven hardware that would work for those non-hdmi tv's.

Tv out?

I believe this is what you need!

You could go this route:
http://www.cellphoneshop.net/mhlhdmi.html
Read review and make sure the one you're buying works for the Note 2 or S3.
I have one from my ol' S2, bought an adapter for my Note 2 and it works like a charm!
Nope.
You need the mhl adapter like others suggested unfortunately. Unless you can find one locally than there is nothing you can do.
You need an mhl cable. More specifically the one from samsung because they made ours non standard.

Or get smart dock which had hdmi out.

The old Nexus 7 didn't support Slimport or MHL.
MHL and Slimport are two competing standards (incompatible between them) to deliver HDMI video via the micro USB connector. First gen Nexus 7 did not have any of them (so no video out whatsoever). Nexus 7-2 implements Slimport (looks like Google chose this side). Many smartphones support MHL (the other standard). Your MHL adapter will not work on Nexus 7-2 or Nexus 4.

Slimport Flickering

I hook up my nexus 7 with cable matter slimport adapter and it works for a minute and then cuts out and TV stops detecting it. Tried 2 TV 3 HDMI cables.

I'm having the same issue (same slimport adapter) with my LG G2. Did you ever get this resolved?

Does the Startech.com SLMPT2HD Slimport adapter work with the Nexus 7 FHD?

Hi there, I'm thinking of buying the Startech.com SLMPT2HD Slimport adapter for connecting my dad's Nexus 7 2nd gen to his HD tv screen via HDMI.
I know that theoretically this should work but I also read that some of the available adapters don't work (well) in practice.
Can anyone on these forums confirm that the SLMPT2HD actually works with the new Nexus 7?
Thanks a bunch,
ries
Well, for anyone interested, I found out that it works fine according to a video review on Amazon.

I'd be interested in seeing that review. I have this adapter, works fine on my Nexus 4 but does nothing on my 2013 Nexus 7.

I just bought this adapter and was able to test it today.
The adapter doesn't work for me either :crying:
I have an MHL adapter that I tried with my GNex to test out the HDMI cable and that's fine so I don't know why it wouldn't work.
The only thing I could think of is maybe my TV's don't support 1080p60 coming out of the device??? I don't really buy into that though as both my TV's say they do support that.

Sorry, can't post any links yet. Google for "Startech.com SLMPT2HD Slimport adapter amazon" and you will find the Amazon page with 1 customer review accompanied with a video review. The guy in the video mentions he is using the adapter with a Nexus 7.

I sent an email to the Amazon vendor who told me to contact startech. That was two days ago and I haven't heard anything yet. I'm going to return the adapter if I don't hear anything today.

I also contacted Startech.com and got a quick and friendly reply that didn't help me much:
The SLMPT2HD adapter is designed to work with any device that are MyDP enabled.* The adapter has been tested on a number of phones and tablets I just can't speak to this specific one.* If there was known*issues with the Google/Asus Nexus 7 (2013) we most likely wouldn't have released it.

The response I got early this morning
Thank you for your inquiry!
There is no specific configuration of our SLMPT2HD required for functionality, it works as an external signal format converter.
have you confirmed with the documentation for your device that it utilizes a Slimport, and the steps required to enable external monitor output on that device?
have you tested our SLMPT2HD with a different model output device?
If you have any further questions, please contact us.

Yep... I wouldn't recommend buying this. I have to pay to return it, and they won't refund the money to me until they've tested it and if they say it isn't defective then no refund. Waste of $30 unless I can figure out how to get it to work on the N7FHD
Can vouch for $29 Analogix Slimport adapter (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DWGB6CU/) which I originally bought for the Nexus 4 vs the unknown Startech SLMPT2HD at $39.
The signal level for Slimport on the Nexus7 FHD is very low compared with the Nexus 4 and 5. Most Slimport adapters will not work with the Nexus 7 FHD unless specifically designed for it. Startech.com's SLMPT2HD has been re-worked to be compatible with the Nexus7 FHD low signal levels. The new stock is available now, so any new adapters ordered going forward will work with the Nexus7.
