Is there a way to receive texts and respond to them on my N7 without using a new number? I think there may be some way to do it with Google Voice, but I'm not entirely sure. Help would be greatly appreciated, I don't like this new number thing.
Why don't you try tablet talk it pairs right up with your cell phone via Bluetooth or wifi. The best part is that you don't have to get a new number either.

Google Voice works fine (as long as you have a GV number).
I'll check out tablet talk.
I could use Google Voice, but I don't want to have to give my Google Voice number out to everyone instead of the number everyone already has.
Thanks guys, I'll post back once I've tried this stuff.
EDIT: Tablet talk is great. Everyone that wants to text/call from their tablet should get this (granted that they don't use GV already).
Is there any free app that does what Tablet Talk does?

Try mighty text. I've been using it on my phone with my laptop. It's free, and you don't have to connect to WiFi or bluetooth

theres also DeskSMS from Koush that sends your texts to Google Talk. Doesnt use the extra battery that bluetooth would use

I probably will but I'm trying to save as much as I can for stuff that I can't otherwise get for free.
Tablet talk is amazing
SyncSMS has been my choice for the last year or so, but i'm trying DeskSMS out.
You can also use the Facebook messenger app or Google+ messenger. Works just like texting.

DeskSMS is good, but don't like having an extra app open to look at my SMS...works well on my laptops, easy to use etc
MySMS was hit or miss, UI is laggy and sometimes SMS wouldn't sync right away.
SyncSMS worked well when I tried the beta, but I didn't get around to purchasing the full version since I didn't use it a lot.
Going to check out TabletTalk later today, since I have been using my I/O N7 a lot lately

Anyways op, if I wanted to hide contacts. I'd probably save the contacts to the sim card or to a second gmail account and in the contacts app I would hit menu>Contacts to display and just select to display my main gmail account contacts and not the ones in the sim or secondary Gmail

What exactly is your purpose in hiding the contacts? Is it because you are sneaking around on a loved one? Or is it for guilty pleasures like dominos pizza hotline? Maybe even you setup your voicemail as a contact so you can easilly dial it.
An all around solution would be to use a "vault" application. Vault hide is pretty good.
I think it is because a lot of contacts from his Gmail account or fb is showing up so he's trying to hide them?. Or he's a slut. Probably the latter

If you just want to hide some contacts in order not to have them in your list, I'd suggest the configuration of the preinstalled contacts App. But if there are contacts, you want to keep "secret" give "Hide it" a try. It pretends to be an Audiomanager, but you can access a hidden vault by typing in a code. In this vault you can store pics, Videos, texts, contact, etc

ALL - wow, so judgmental...
OP - I hide contacts frequently because I sync my office/exchange contacts but don't care to see them on my personal phone on the weekends...
solution: stock contacts app allows for viewing certain groups - if you really need contacts 'invisible' under passcode on your phone, there are third party apps to do that, or set them on your sim with a sim lock password or on you samsung account online or elsewhere...
FB.

MMS won't send running JellyBean 4.2?
We're aware and looking into this issue, it's not a setting, just a compatibility issue with chompSMS and JellyBeans latest firmware. Please be patient, we hope to find a solution for the next chompSMS update.

So basically I bought chompsms and the licence thing and a couple of days ago I had to factory reset my phone and so all my apps were re-installed including chompsms. Only problem I have is that the I have that stupid ad at the bottom of the screen and when I try and enable the licence again, my phones freezes and I cant buy the licence again because it says that I already have it. I've tried looking for it in my applications on my phone and my market but it doesnt come up. HELP!!!! :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:

Does Chomp have group threaded messaging? I can't seam to figure out how to get it to work if it does at all. I'm stuck using handcent at the moment because it does threading, but would much rather use chomp.
I honestly don't understand paying only to remove ads....adaway is still around, people....you just have to go looking for it I'll never pay anyone a single penny to remove ads. If I don't want them there, I'll remove them on my own, thanks!! I don't need to pay someone to remove them for me.

For me it is not about the ads. It is about throwing a few bucks to the dev for the hard work they put in. That's why the ads are there in the first place. I don't mind supporting them. If I like an app and they have a pay app I will buy it. A couple of bucks is a small price to pay for useful software.

I agree, but when the only difference between free & paid apps is the ads I specifically won't pay because that tells me the dev is only out for $$, and that portrays greed....something I will never condone.

Lol really? If the developer was greedy he would of made it a paid app from the very beginning. I don't mind giving some money to the developer for his good work on a app that I use from a day to day basis.

I don't think they have group messaging. I mean you can receive group messages but when you send via group messages you send each message individually. Not sure if developer fixed it yet. That's only thing from keeping me from using chomp SMS for now

I know I am getting off topic, as well as responding to a really old thread, and I apologize, but I just have to respond here. I agree with hp420 that we should not support greedy (or arrogant) developers. However, developers who only add ads to their free apps rather than crippling or time limiting them are the very opposite of greedy--especially one as useful and popular as ChompSMS! They are being incredibly generous, and they are the ones I am MOST likely to pay. Then again, I am about the only person I know who actually pays for shareware on my computer if I use it frequently--partly from appreciation, and partly because I want to give them incentive to keep it updated.

It can be done, I shared some of my apps with my mom. I don't think it's right or fair to share paid apps because it's stealing and dishonest. Only you paid to use the app. XDA is not the place to ask how to cheat developers or steal from them and to do so will likely result in getting yourself banned.
It's actually easier to use S Beam to share apps between devices that have this feature. A lot of my co workers have SGIII and one has Note2 and we use S Beam to share photos, videos, and apps all the time.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
Not looking to cheat out devs, if that was the case, id just side load the apps, can easily find em online and skip the license checking aswell. My little brother is in 8th grade, not really working or anything. And i buy apps that he uses alone aswell.
And the reason to switch the purchases to another account was so i can keep my personal emails contacts and calendars separate from google app side of things.
Thanks for the input thou

Click SMS in the list of folders in your Gmail account. All texts will be backed up and shown on the right. You can import them into your phone whenever, like if you flash a new ROM but want your text history imported. The only limitation is MMS.
