Hi all.
My wife has a note 2 and the screen got cracked (not the digitiser) Not insured and I wasn't about to pay £289 cheeky gits lol.
I got a replacement screen and followed a youtube tutorial on how to replace.
I got the glass off fine and have put the screen on but keep getting an air bubble appear. I've tried different adhesives and still the same... Has anyone else come across this or is anyone able to shed some light on a solution.
Thanks for your time.
And yes I made it kind of hybrid with a black home button... Completely by mistake ha ha (when ordering make sure you get the right colour... Duh)

Yes, there's a solution. Spend millions on a specially designed cleanroom and laminating equipment.
If you can't manage that, your choice are:
a) Live with the bubble
b) Spend the $289 for a proper sealed unit
Sorry dude.
Thanks for the sarcasm... That really helped.
For anyone that might be interested. I found the solution.
The sides require more clearance. So I put more tape on the sides and that has got it sorted.
Easy after all that messing!

How is the quality? Is viewing experience same or are there changes on colors/brightness etc.?
you can try special UV glue for phone digitizers you can find it on ebay. but than you also need strong UV lamp. check some youtube video =)
From what I can tell in comparison to my s4 the quality is very good hardly noticeable... Very happy

Like 200$ for the lcd + glass. Or like 15$ for just the glass, its hard to replace but manageable.

Depends on where you live. Some towns have little phone repair centers.

I work at a cell phone repair store. We charge like 275 for the repair and a good quality part will run like 225. I have fixed like 30 gs3s so far and I am going to warn you now..... Do not attempt to just replace the glass. I you will just be wasting your time. To the guy that said it is manageable, until you try it yourself, please don't give advice like that out. It very much is not manageable to do. But if you have any experience repairing phones, just order the screen plus lcd yourself and do it. It is very easy on the gs3

Depending where your at I would google search repair centers and call around for the best price. If that doesn't work perhaps Craigslist? I met a really cool tech guy off there and he works on mainly iphones but knows a lot about android devices as well.

Quite a few ppl have replaced just the glass here on xda..
If my glass was broken I'd try to fix it.. If I screw up I'd have to replace the entire thing anyway so might as well try to fix it for 15 first.
Or am I missing something?

It isn't about the quality, the screen is curved in the edges so it becomes extremely weak there, one unlucky corner drop that avoids the plastic bezel and hits the screen and welcome cracks.
Now i dropped mine many times and found that the phone drops on it's back most of the time and survives, but i almost broke it when it dropped on the side, luckily it hit the bezel and there was no damage, not even a scratch/bend.
So yep.. luck.

+ 1 on that.
if you have a proper case it'll decrease the chance...but yea with an unprotected phone it comes down to luck really. takes that one spot to crack your screen.

Hello there
A few days ago I was using the public transport when my Note II fell on the ground. When my girlfriend asked if it was broken, I replied that the Note II was unbreakable. When I picked it up my screen was broken (karma hits player 1 for one million thousand trillion points). I mailed to the store I bought it from and they told me it would cost 250 euro's.
I'm wondering whether this is a normal price for a screen replacement.
Thank you for the replies!
Stores always want to rip you off! I have seen issues about screen on the galaxy s3 which obviously is different but almost the same. The glass can be bought for under $10 online and there are plenty of YouTube videos with instructions on how to do change it yourself. So to answer your question yes I think $250 is wayyyyy too much

If it were me, I'd attempt to fix it myself, after reading up extensively and making sure I had the right tools.
Only you can contemplate whether it's worth it for you, watch some YouTube and make a decision

The alternative is getting it fixed in a local 'foreign' shop here in my city. Not entirely reliable, but I have little to lose.

Did you ask if they were going to change just the front glass or the whole display such as glass+ digitizer+amoled? Because if it's just the glass then it would be a major rip off! It's not that simple to just change the glass since it glued with an adhesive and you'll need to be very careful when removing it.

First of all. If the screen is scratched or broken but still works it means than the screen is not damaged. Only upper glass over screen is broken and you can buy one from ebay for 20$ and replace yourself by video tutorial on youtube. Anyway if you fail to repar it yourself you can anytime go and replace whole screen for 250 eur. But I think its worth to try to repair upper glass only if screen is still responding after damage.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
It happened yesterday, i knew it would happen at some point...
Anyone know how much it will cost me? The device is still working fine, but i have no idea for how long it will..
It's pretty funny actually, i was thinking about buying a case, a few hours later my phone fell on the ground.
So, any cheap repair options and useful cases for the future?
Visit cnn.cn I've bought from them before and have no complain. You'll find the rear housing for around $10 and if your screen still responds to touch and asking as your amoled is intact then you probably just need to replace the front glass which is also cheap and around the rang of $10 - $20. However, if your amoled or digitizer is unresponsive then the whole screen assembly would cost you around $320. Good luck.

I doubt it because lg screens are a bit complicated and ppl are scared to attempt it. However there are how tos on YouTube you can follow. I would go with the link I gave since the two pieces are attached. With the separate piece you might have to loca the glass to the LCD so u don't get an air bubble in the middle or dust in the screen after time. My first time fixing my Note I didn't use no loca since none of the vids instructed to do so. Worst experience ever, thank god I was able to take it apart and redo it.

DO NOT touch the battery if it gets poked or bent out of shape a little it will go bad very quickly. Obviously unplug it from the board but thats it, and its only 2 connections to get the screen off the main board. Everything is pretty easy once you get inside. I watched a video and that was a huge help.

Get both. All things being equal, your best bet is to replace both. Since screen and digitizer are so close together on this phone a break like you got probably means both are damaged anyway.

Well...personally I would heat that one up and remove it to be replaced by a new grill. Google the part and also check out a couple teardowns. You might be able to reshape that white plastic once the grill is off too. Good thing she didn't get the glass !

I would take a look at a teardown guide. See if you can get a busted htc one on ebay to replace the back part or just try and bend the section that is bent.
There are some tear down guides on iFixit and also on youtube. Would post links but I don't think that is allowed.
the same exact thing happened to me. Dropped the phone, dented the upper right hand corner. What i did was buy one of those invisible body shield cases and put it on.

I saw one where the dude pulled it apart without heat, and showed there was no adhesive at all. Someone said something in the comments about how it'd be easier to use heat, and apparently this guy had done it both ways and the only difference is that using heat makes it hot as balls and hard to handle.
