Problem started after restoring a nandroid backup. Kept the phone for charging overnight next day it was dead.
The Problem:
1) Phone does not charge fully through USB/Wall Charger tried all types of cables official/aftermarket.
2) The Red LED keeps blinking then becomes stable for sometime then shuts off. Then again need to plug out and plugin the charger again the same cycle continues.
3) When the Red LED becomes stable can boot the phone in OS/Boot-loader/Recovery (5.8.4.0) but it switches of automatically after sometime. In OS the battery seems to be stuck at 2% and does not charge beyond that.
4)Even tried to charge it using Fast-boot method using the script. But the voltage seems to gradually decrease instead of increasing and the device switches off again.
5)Have tried to recalibrate the battery by VOL UP+ VOL Down+ Power and even wiped batterystats through recovery.
Please help me troubleshoot the problem.

simply change the boot loader. similar stuff happened to me when i was in CM. change boot loader and dont open it. charge it with wall charger and then go into recovery then flash a new rom. i don't recommend nandroid backups. use google's backup.

How do change bootloader ?, its not able to flash anything through fastboot as the charge is too low.
sorry wrote wrong i meant change kernel. the only thing you can do is shut off the phone then wait for it to charge. then go to fast boot and flash a new or stock kernel.

Man Mr Hofs say: After all this trying i sense a faulty battery and I think is faulty battery. Just try to repleace your battery
OK now it seems that the phone can charge through USB port only charged till 100% green light came on. But stops charging after a while when connected to a Wall charger and starts discharging.
I Have tried to charge it with original wall charger, another one from the HTC Desire Z charger and tried various usb cables too. But none of the wall chargers work with it.
This seems very weird

Hi all, after some info if possible. It's not a major problem I have, only just noticed it after 4 months.
I'm running CM6.1.3 and CWM, which work brilliantly. The problem I have come across is not being able to charge the phone once I have turned it off without it starting up and going into CWM. Now this isn't a huge problem as I very rarely turn the phone off, but I wanted to charge the battery last night with it off after getting a full charge when on but can't as once it goes into CWM it will stop charging.
Anyone got any ideas how I stop it going into the recovery when I plug it in?
Cheers

There is no option for fastboot in CM as far as I can see. If its a common problem with no solution then I will wait, like I said it isn't a huge problem, just wondering if it was an easy fix I hadn't seen.
Cheers everyone for the replies.

Nothing you can do unfortunately. I'm sure there will be a work around eventually.
There is only one work around for now. Remove ClockworkMod Recovery.
Your DHD when stock, and switched off, would power up into a state of HTC Recovery just to display the little orange or green charging LED, when connected to a charger.
Now since we all replaced HTC Recovery with that of ClockworkMod Recovery, plugging in the charger will start ClockworkMod Recovery.
Sadly there is nothing else we can do.
still no solutions???
Reflash back to the stock recovery.
If I flash the stock recovery and then flash cwm latest 2.x for Desire HD, will it solve the problem?
My problem starts when I have the charger plug in and use ROM manager to reboot into recovery to wipe the batt stats, before that, it was ok.
This is a good thing if you ever encounter bootloops. You just connect to charger and reflash everything. I consider this a feature
Sent from a random phone.
not a good feature for me though ...
my initial intention is to recalibrate my battery.
i'm having trouble draining my battery yesterday before this happening
today, i'm having problem stopping the drain.
i charge till green led and the moment i wipe battery stats and boot up, it's 99%.
and it's going down 1% everytime i check it
and i can't turn off the phone to charge now.

Booting your DHD requires more power than the charger supplies, ergo if you boot up the battery is never going to be at 100%. The fact that CWM comes on when the phone is turned off and plugged in is irrelevant, the reason you charge with it turned off is to ensure it is 100% charged before you wipe battery stats, as the phone charges in cwm just charge to 100% then use the option to wipe battery stats. For those cynics who don't believe that the phone charges in cwm get QtADB and you can monitor the phone stats in cwm and watch it charge, simples!
any way to charge a phone once completely dead
as the title states, once in the bootloop issue if your battery ends up at 0% and can't be charged is there a way out of this. Here is my issue. I can't get into recovery. Hboot or fastboot are the only options available. Sometimes it boots into the ROM but instantly dies once restarting. No clue as to the trigger as I've tried pretty much all the combinations of factory reset, reboot-bootloader, erase cache etc etc etc trying to get this into a non on mode so it can charge.
In addition to this of course anytime I plug the phone in it automatically turns on in either bootloader or fastboot which gives it no opportunity to charge at all otherwise I would simply run the RUU which won't let me until it hits 30%. I've more or less come to the conclusion I have to send it in because its not quite the same situation that others have experienced. But was hoping to get an answer/fix so I don't have to send it in to HTC to get repaired since the RMA guys just told me it'll be 10 business days before they even get in parts to the texas facility to get it sent there for repairs.
also of note, I had managed to relock the bootloader but can't get enough juice to run the RUU
What about borrowing a battery or getting one and charging it. That would be better than sending it in.

With the current recovery. The phone can't charge while off. You can't let it die
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
yeah so far I've tried literally everything out there. I almost need a way to figure out how to wipe the rom so it can't restart and sit on the loading screen so it can charge, but so far no luck with anything in the forum. I've literally tried it all.
Could be worse, my replacement comes today (but cost the same sadly, looks like the gf will get a new one when I can send it out to htc for repairs and get it back)
So, when you plug the charger in, the phone starts up into hboot or something? And can you not press and hold power for 10 secs to force it to power off while still plugged in? My phone was charging while it was completely off. That's after I discharged it completely, it shut itself off.
any time I plug it in it automatically turns back on. If I hold down the power button for 10 seconds it simply reboots.

By either plugging in every time it stops charging or rebooting it like that you should be able to gradually charge it over 30%, that's what I heard. So it's not as easy as plug in and wait, but rather plug in, unplug, plug back in.
I have this same issue. Arent their any recoveries that charge while in recovery mode??
Yes.. The stock recovery. You need to flash that.
again, can't flash diddly because of low battery. So flashing stock recovery does nothing as it would end in an error.
Very possible solution! Worked for me!
It seems my reply via the XDA-App did not come through.. As I wanted to reply.
My H0X was also dead. Wouldn't charge nor boot, with wall charger or by pc.. but I thought.. well let's give it a chance by using my iPhone 4 charger (with HTC cable of course)
Guess what: It worked!
SO TO ALL WHO IS HAVING THIS 'WILL NOT CHARGE' PROBLEM:
Try an other charger, even try your wireless mouse, or other phone chargers.. Anything!

you don't think something silly like this idea has been done? When the phone is plugged into any outside source of charge, it turns on in bootloader. This does not charge it...
Get into fastboot and try charge ..same happened to me when I tried to install Mike's Rom. So what I ended up doing was after trying a millions things to get a little charge so I could flash stock recovery and relock bootloader. I turn phone off. Plug charge for 2 seconds unplug. Plug again unplug. Big pain in the ass. Don't let charger to long cause it boots phone againg. So usually u see led turn on then few seconds later it goes off that's when u have to unplug charger. Do that again a few times. Enough to get a little charge again to flash stock recover. Once u flash stock recover phone charges normally. You also need the correct RUU for ur phone. That's after flashing stock recovery then relock bootloader then flash ruu. Then u can try again a custom Rom or whatever u were doing

Yes in the latest recoverys the batt will charge that's correct, but it is not charging on the bootloader screen !
CWM 5.8.4.0 and higher have this function for sure.
And I can't do anything cause I locked the phone and now when I select power down he is up again when I turn the charger. I don't know what to do.... But I think I have faulty battery cause I charged him to 100% before I got him oem lock....
Yeah that's strange, can you enter the bootloader now ?
You can try this battery script
https://www.dropbox.com/s/aaah8gqz8j024xz/Batt script.bat
Copy the file into the fastboot folder and run it. It reboots the bootloader constantly and charge it little by little..... Maybe it gives the extra power you need to unlock and flash a custom recovery to charge in there.
Even if you charged it full. Its the only option i have
Ok I have reseted him about 40 times now and he reacted. When I could flash I didn't want to unlock him again so I flashed the RUU and it is all going fine hope it works and many thanks
"Fingers crossed"
It worked, thank you for an advice with the rebooting ))

Hi,
I tried to search the forum but couldn't get mine working.
I got HTC One M8 partially dead from my friend, so that I can check it. TWRP recovery is installed. HTC Boot logo show " This build is for development purpose only..."
Now I have three different genuine chargers with me. One from HTC One M8, another from HTC ONE Max and third is from HTC Evo 3D. If I plug the charger in computer to get it detected and then try some adb cmd on it. It will just keep restarting after showing first boot logo. Then when I put it to its own wall charger it get on and the TWRP recovery screen appears for 1 sec and then the battery information that it is charging. few seconds later TWRP recovery screen just appear again for 1 sec and goes away while the phone is yet charging.
The battery charging information shows that is phone is charging up and the LED is stable. I let it charge over night and was 100% in the morning. As soon as I removed the wall charger. The phone went off. I tried to power it on but it didn't. I put the phone again to charge with wall charger but it again started from 1%. The phone goes off as soon as I remove it from wall charger and then start charging again from 1% if I put it back.
It is not water damaged, neither it has been hit hard, nor dissembled.
What I have tried it to get into hboot by holding POWER+Vol Down. Also Tried POWER+Vol up for 10-20 sec. I also tried to go through Battery calibration by holding VOL Down+VOL UP and Power for 2min+. Phone doesn't show any life if I try it on battery, not even vibration. Only on wall charger it start doing it regular procedure as said above.
Now the question is if it charging the Battery at all? Because I don't feel the phone heating up a bit while charging. Or is it some other problem?!
Thanks
Any help?
