Basically, made an idiot move by unlocking early and then exchanging my phone for reasons too complicated and boring to explain. Now, no more unlock. I guess my unlock.bin file from first phone is useless?

Yes, basically. You are now, unfortunately, locked until someone finds us a way to unlock. Or you could pay to have your phone s-off, via Sonic's thread. He purchased a javacard and is charging a fee, which I find to be very decently priced, to s-off peoples phone. You will have to send your phone to him, though, so unless you have a backup phone, you'll be without a phone for a few days.
Wow. Hope you had a good reason to lose an unlocked device.

let me guess, OCD and that little gap up top was too much, or that one little scratch in the trim, or 1 dead pixel...
:silly:
I had to make an exchange due to bad radios and lost my unlock also. A functional phone comes before unlock.
If your unlock token worked on your new phone it would work for all phones.
sorry you lost unlock.
And... Nrfitchett nails it. OCD resulting from crack flashing over years. Then Karma catches up.

I'd recommend getting help from T-Mobile via their live chat service.

More efficient than calling.
Been on the phone with tmobile for the whole week. They wont help out. They basically sent me another Note 2 for free without me even asking them and now im stuck. I want to get rid of it, but its still blocked. Got TWO Note 2s for FREE in the same week. But neither work because of the block and bad storms knocking out towers in my area. FRUSTRATED!!!!
That just doesnt sound right to me. Tmobile isnt in the business of sending out free note2 with blocked imei number
...what are you really trying to do?

If T-mobile did not tell me to send the phone back than I would NOT send it back.... It sounds to me like they already know he has the extra phone but don't care, so sell it to someone for parts or whatever they want to do with it..... If you want to keep it then you have no options with T-mobile but you can get it activated on Straight Talk or Simple Mobile cause they don't tend to care or even know if it's disabled by T-mobile... I am NOT promoting fraud but if you are being honest I am giving you an honest answer...
"When you ASSUME you make an ass out of u and me" so let's not assume he is being fraudulent when he just asked a question...

Be careful bro.. you may get a repackaging fee...
Yea to those who feel I'm being dishonest, please read the whole story and don't judge. I never asked for the second phone. I actually think the person he sells the phone to will find out its blacklisted, regardless of what carrier its on. At that point the new owner will do one of two things; call the police, or show back up with friends and ensure they get their money back. You have one working note, and an extra one that should be sent back because thats the honest thing to do. Why do you think otherwise. Go troll some of the lesser sites, I dont believe xda is the proper place for you to try and learn how to reprogram an IMEI in order to circumvent t-mobile block on your phone, as its concidered stolen at this point.

Yeah, I won't be doing it. I was just venting mostly. I'm basically just pissed at the circumstance, and was looking for a way to save a few bucks. I'm more concerned about potentially getting a good guy busted for taking a phone in that he shouldn't than I am for duping some mega chain or phone manufacturer. Good think you arent risking losing his job, but costco should return if you brick it no matter what. I did it on accident and best buy gave me a new one. I will post a PSA on it. but on the off chance you do still want to do it, just restore from a nandroid, and leave recovery on overnight, and that should do it. It is a new bug me and a few other developers have found the hard way.
For a moment I thought the OP was gonna give us his number, even though we just met, and ask us to call him, maybe?

I wouldn't know what happens if you're going through T-Mobile but I assume you'll be fine if you're polite and explain you don't know what's going on, insist you've been with T-Mobile because of their excellent support if they make a big deal about it. Asurion the insurance company working with T-Mobile will take it anyways because they just fix it and that's it and resell it. And because you pay a monthly bill they're making money off of you regardless and you still have to pay a deductible.
But you SHOULD really return to stock.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4
If they see that the phone is rooted, they'll just simply do nothing for you. That's why people say "your warranty is now void".
Do what is mentioned above or take your chances and hope the T-Mobile rep that is assisting you doesn't check to see if the phone is rooted or check the flash counter.

Oh, simple enough then! Just go to SuperSU and unroot.
You could even try to temp unroot if you think that's all you'd need to do to hide it.

I like the features I get with my stock build, but I'm considering a root for better control over my apps, (Greenify, permission control) so this thread seems like a relevant question.

I rooted my phone once, but I will never do it again after what happened. Last year I rooted my GS3 and about a week later, my local T-Mobile store called my phone unexpectedly. The guy on the other end told me I was due for a price drop, but I would have to come into the T-Mobile store to sign the paperwork before it would take effect. 2 days later I stopped in to get the discount on my monthly payment. The T-Mobile employee said he would have to look at my phone just to verify that it was the correct serial number. He went into the back room and said he would be back in a few minutes. 10 minutes later, a police officer walks in the store and asks my name. I'm totally freaked out wondering what the deal is. He asks me to turn around a puts hand cuffs on me. The officer told me I was under arrested and being charged with "rooting a mobile device". I was booked and released, but I would watch what you do to your phone. Good luck.

Rooting a device isn't illegal. They can kiss my ring. Think about it, if it was illegal why are root apps allowed on Google Play? And also, why is XDA not been shut down?
Methinks something else happened there. Maybe you voided their warranty and tried getting a discount which may be against the rules. Or something. But I know for a fact this is legal. Unlocking is a different story however.
So my advice, root on my brothers it's the only damn freedom we have left here in America.

It's getting a little nuts with these new root threads when the answer is - no, you can't root (well, bootloader unlock) right now. I mean it's literally on the front pages of the forum for this device.

Yes they will. I would flash it back to stock and make it look like you weren't routed before sending it.

I also suggest you flash back to stock reset the counter and then jump. Follow ALL instructions for flashing back to stock. I can't tell you what to do but I highly recommend you go back to stock BEFORE you try to jump. Best wishes.
It take about 5 minutes to go totally back to stock. Why take a chance.

I would definitely flash it back to stock rom. I had to sent in my first S4 I ordered due to an issue and the online rep asked if I rooted the phone. So flash to stock just to be safe
Just was wondering. Somewhere I read the new International firmware trips your flash counter and traingle away doesnt reset it. And I've flashed just about everything out there lol. Not too worried about it as I think with jump you bring in your phone to the store and get the new phone At the same time

Wait...?!
I was told that every 6months u can jump... u put the deposit on your phone and made payments and if jump you put the 200$ deposit on the new phone and they pay off the other phone. And you get to keep it...
Thats what customer service told me.... But we all know just how reliable they really are.

No after a one time wait of 6 months you can jump on that month and the month after that then you wait till the next year on the month you jumped then you can jump 2 times that year.

I did the "Jump" for both Wifey's phone and Mine.....
We didn't have to turn in the old devices. One would have gotten $250 "trade in" and the other $20.
We just kept the old phones for standby or whatever.
Besides, what if you don't like the one you got? If you turned them in, there is no returning o the one you had!
Just my 2¢
