[Q] Use SGH-M919 rom and kernel on GT-I9505 International - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Is it possible to flash SGH-M919 rom and kernel on GT-I9505 International. I have a GT-I9505 that I want to use on Tmobile USA. I want all the features of tmobile. Wifi calling, LTE etc. Also is it possible to change the baseband to tmobile.

ROM yes. Kernel, I don't think so; use kernels for the i9505 to be 100% safe. Baseband, no, use i9505 baseband/modem. WiFi calling, no, that is a T-Mobile specific feature. Unless you have a T-Mobile SIM/T-Mobile service, the WiFi calling feature is useless.

Kinda figured baseband was asking too much. but most of my reading suggests that the SGH-M919 and GT-I9505 are basically the same hardware. So i figure that the kernel should work.

I think the stock kernel might work, though I personally don't know first-hand. I want to say I read somewhere that the stock kernels will work, it's the custom ones that might be a little wonky. Either way, I've always just avoided any possible incompatibilities and used a kernel for the M919 regardless if the i9505's would work or not. Even if it didn't though, worst thing that could happen though is you'd get stuck at the first splash screen. Nothing re-flashing the ROM wouldn't fix; and being that this would be the first boot, nothing would be lost.

Curious to know if you found a solution. I am also running an I9505 on the US T-Mobile network and have only been able to get H and H+ networks. Want to know if there is a radio I can flash that will be Android 4.3 compatible and give me 4G/LTE network access.

I posted a message above, I'm trying to do the opposite. I have a US T-Mobile from the US that I bought and I live in Thailand. It's unlocked but the Internet connection will only receive Edge, no H or H+. I thought that the bands on both were the same but they must not be.

I need to reverse it, my i9505 thinks he is a m919, but my warranty only works if my s4 became a i9505 again!!!!! Please help me

I believe that you will need a radio with ICS RILs or a radio without the RILs to get it to work on an ICS based ROM

Nice try but, I don't think it works like that. I could be wrong here but, that would be what they call "roaming". It makes sense if you think about it. Why would AT&T allow you to use their towers and provide service when you don't have an account with them and pay them? And, when you do go into roaming, there are back-end agreements between providers to facilitate that. That's why roaming charges would be so high since a portion of that is paid to the provider allowing you to on their network to access Tmo network.
please feel free to add / correct my message here.

[Q] AT&T ROMs on T-Mobile

So I'm going to buy a T-Mobile Galaxy S4 tomorrow. I'm locked onto AT&T for a few more months (so I'll unlock this new one and buy it out right). When done I'm going T-Mobile (or Straight Talk).
Either way, there's a ROM developer over there who's ROM I really like that he's developing for the AT&T S4 (ShoStock) and I'd like to know since it's essentially similar hardware should it be a simple flash over?
I'm coming from an AT&T S2 and I know it was simple "hellraising" the International ROMs and they'd work on the AT&T variant. Can we do the same with the S4 (since they are essentially similar hardware minus additional radios on the T-Mobile variant).
Thanks!!! :laugh::good:

As soon as you get your Tmobile Galaxy S4 Unlocked you will be able to flash the AT&T ShoStock rom without any problems.
It will not need hellraiser or anything else and it can be flashed just like any other custom rom using CWM or TWRP recovery..
The only thing you will loose by flashing any AT&T rom on an Unlocked Tmobile phone is the free wifi calling feature.
All the Tmobile Galaxy S4 custom roms have the wifi calling feature in them.
If you flash any of the AT&T custom Galaxy S4 roms none of them will have the wifi calling feature.

Gotcha. What's the free Wifi calling feature? I won't be a T-Mobile customer for a few months and still on AT&T's network so I don't think I'd benefit from it.

I've been flashing AT&T AOSP based roms on it... I've been flashing AT&T sense roms on my T-mobile HTC One.. I haven't flashed AT&T TW ROMs on my Tmobile galaxy s4, but as I mentioned, I've been flashing AT&T AOSP based roms on my tmobile galaxy s4 with no issues at all.
I have ALSO been flashing TW i9505 ROMs with no issues at all. (which is probably more applicable to your question)
I'm on AT&T but have these tmobile devices for complicated reasons.
Best results i've had with my HTC is flashing international roms and selecting T-Mobile as my device type in AROMA, then once in the ROM, i just fix the APN to "ATT Phone" for full LTE speed, etc.
Same goes for i9505 TW ROMs on the GS4. The reason I bring this up is that I could never get WiFi hotspot (internet connection sharing) to work on either t-mobile phone when choosing AT&T as my carrier in AROMA (well that's not entirely true, it seems radio-related. older roms were fine, but then with a recent base-change, I encountered this issue with hotspot). I found by choosing T-MOBILE in AROMA, and then disabling wifi calling when in-ROM (to avoid the nags about invalid SIM type) and changing APN to ATT Phone, I have everything working perfectly.
I hope this helps you.
This is the WiFi calling feature:

If you have any tmobile plan you have a certain amount of anytime minutes, with free wifi calling whever you use it, it does not
subrract from those anytime minutes. I am usually home which means that 90% of the time that I use my phone I use wifi calling
and it does not reduce the number of minutes I have on my plan.
Wifi calling is really great, even if you leave it on all the time the phone switches automatically to normal cellular mode if it looses
the wifi connection.
Then when a wifi is connection is within reach, it starts using that again automatically which makes it really easy to use.
So for all practical terms, I leave my wifi calling on all the time. If I drive away from home the regular GSM/3G/4G etc. turns on.
Best of all the quality of the incoming and outgoing call audio is exactly the same using wifi or using the cellular network.

LTE is now available for both AT&T and Tmobile LTE capable phones. Even an unlocked Tmobile S3 can now get LTE data
in a lot of the larger cities.
One of my friends has an unlocked AT&T S3 phone and he is on the Tmobile network so he always flashes tmobile custom
roms, when he flashed a tmobile rom which came with the aroma installer he selects "Tmobile" since he is a tmobile customer.
If he would select AT&T in the aroma installer he would not get LTE data or 4G unless he changes his APN to tmobile's APN.
In fact, next time you flash a Tmobile rom without the aroma installer to an unlocked AT&T phone with an Tmobile sim card
you will see that it will automatically display the proper Tmobile APN after flashing without the need to change it.
Same thing holds true if you have a unlocked Tmobile phone and a AT&T sim card and flash a AT&T rom without the
aroma installer when it gets done flashing and reboots the phone when you check the APN it will have the AT&T APN
displayed automatically too.
Before I got my Tmobile S4 I had a AT&T Unlocked S3 I747 phone and when I switched to the Tmobile network and put
the Tmobile sim card in the phone while I still had a AT&T custom rom flashed in the phone everything worked fine and
when I checked the APN it displayed "T-Mobile US" without the need to change the apn.
So from then on, when I flashed any custom tmobile rom with the aroma installer and selected "Tmobile"
and the phone always had the correct APN in it after flashing without the need to manually change it.
When I flashed a tmobile custom rom without aroma installer after flashing it also displayed the proper tmobile apn.

There are no apps for wifi calling which uses your cell number to make and receive calls.
If you have a M919 Tmobile Galaxy S4 or an Unlocked Galaxy S4 and you have a tmobile
sim chip then you are in luck. (your carrier must be tmobile no other carriers offer wifi calling)
All of the M919 Tmobile Samsung Galaxy S4 Touchwiz 4.2.2 stock based custom roms have wifi calling built-in.
Just flash a Samsung Galaxy Touchwiz S4 4.2.2 based Tmobile rom like the Wicked v7 custom rom (which is excellent) and it has wifi calling built-in.

If your phone is a Tmobile SM-G900T S5 model it already has Wifi Calliing
unless you have flashed a non Tmobile SM-G900T S5 rom.
There are NO apps at the playstore which enable wifi-calling.
The only way to have wifi calling is to have a Tmobile SM-G900T S5
phone with either Tmobile SM-G900T S5 4.4.2 stock rom or Tmobile
S5 SM-G900T custom 4.4.2 Kitkat based roms.
Any other roms will not have wifi calling.
Good luck!

You have not revealed your phone's model yet.
But none of the ported roms have or are compatible with wifi calling
and none of them have wifi calling ability.
If your phone is NOT a Tmobile phone it will never have working wifi
calling regardless what roms, ported roms or modifications you make.
Good luck!

Both the S5 and the Note 3 have wifi calling ability as
long as you use stock or stock based custom roms.
There is no need to modify, add or change any files.
If you are trying to use a ported/modified S5 rom
in your Note 3 the wifi calling feature will not work.
Modifying, changing or adding files will not make
the wifi calling work on any ported/modified roms
of any kind.
And that's all there is to it! LOL

Yes, I checked it out and the reason it has wifi calling is because SPRINT added that feature
for the Sprint branded Galaxy Note 3 and soon for the Sprint branded Galaxy S5.
Regardless of the fact that SPRINT recently added wifi calling to their phones it does not mean
that the SPRINT wifi calling can be ported to other brands and or models of phones.
It has nothing to do with Tmobile, Tmobile phones already have wifi calling if you use a
Tmobile branded S5 or Note 3 and a Tmobile NB4/NE6 based stock or custom rom and
an active Tmobile sim card.
None of the PORTED or AOSP roms will have wifi calling if you don't have a Tmobile
branded phone and don't use the NB4/NE6 N900T based custom or stock roms.
Ok check pics got everything like it should look my only problem is check the pics is t-mobile s5 sim card different from the t-mobile note 3? Any ideas i can connect to wifi no data my imei goes away airplane mode turns on every boot baseband is blank all this happens when i switch telephony-common.jar when i go back to original my signal..im sure i dont know what im talking about but any help is appreciated

at&t 4G LTE Support

Hi,
I have an unlocked version of Fire Phone and have flashed the almost latest version of the Cyanogenmod ROM. I am using at&t wireless service but it seems that I just cannot use LTE. Based on other information I think the phone supports all the bands at&t is using. The network the phone is using is HSPA. I tried changing settings in the phone but it did not help. I searched carefully using related keywords but have not found anybody talking about this, and I wonder whether this is something too simple to ask or nobody else has ever encountered this problem. I want to know if there is something I can do to use LTE.
Thanks.

I have seen some issues about CM based ROM's and ATT LTE. Did you have a full LTE signal and good data speeds on the stock ROM before you flashed the CyanogenMod ROM?

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I had already flashed CM before I switched to att so I do not have information about that. And currently I am not quite willing to flash the phone back to the native fireOS just for this because HSPA still gives good data speed...

Have you checked your APN settings and verified that it is setup correctly to use ATT LTE? Also, was this phone ever used on ATT before with the sim card you put in it? If not, then what will have to happen is this, I think: I found this excerpt which I believe is what will have to happen.
You WILL NOT get AT&T LTE on you phone unless your account is first provisioned with an AT&T LTE Phone. There is NO WAY around this. You must buy/borrow an AT&T phone that has LTE capability, put your SIM in that phone, and let the system provision your account for LTE automatically. This is NOT something that customer service, or a store clerk, can do for you. Once your account is provisioned for LTE (you will know because the LTE indicator will show up on the phone), you can then put the SIM card into your Fire Phone. At that point, the device will automatically select the "phone" APN, and you will get LTE (identified by the "4G" indicator).
Hope this helps
