[Q] Can't select Wipe data/factory reset - Galaxy Tab 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone and sorry for my english...
I own a SM-T210 and right now it seems to be on a boot loop, so, as i did many times before with Samsung devices, y pressed VOL-UP+HOME+POWER and tried to wipe it via recovery menu. The problem is that as I try to go down to that option, the menu only goes down when I tap two times the VOL DOWN button, EG: reboot system now -> apply update from external storage - > wipe cache partition (doesn't let me highlight apply update from ADB or wipe data/factory reset)
For one minute, I managed to choose Wipe Data, but can't choose YES on the next menu, (no-no-no, etc).
Any ideas? Also tried to reboot in fastboot but it can't seem to find the device (ADB does, in recovery).
Is there an option to wipe it using ADB or ADB Shell?
Thanks!

Oh dear another one of "no no no no" group. Just scroll down when you see the nonono and just below that is the yes .

This is just a problem with the menu highlights. When you press down once, it does actually change the selection, the highlight just doesn't update.

Actually it is not a problem, it was designed so as to make factory resetting a bit difficult or not straightforward....

Hi this sounds like it is booting up normally to me,please be patient with allowing it to finalize. Please allow at LEAST 10 minutes then see. If no luck then try a clean install again by wiping system and caches from within clockworkmod recovery. Please be careful not to wipe your sdcard.

Reboot into Clockworkmod Recovery (Turn off phone, Press Vol Down + Power simultaneously, then navigate to Recovery using the Volume keys and Press Power button). When Clockworkmod Recovery starts, select "Wipe Data / Factory Reset". Confirm it. Then, go to "Mounts and Storage", select "Format /system", and confirm it as well.
Once these 2 steps are complete, flash the ROM again.

I think so brick my galaxy nexus

hi everyone; my galaxy nexus is rooted and i'm trying to learn clockworkmod and i have e been format system, cache and data.. and my phone is not boot the anroid i press the power button screen is GOOGLE and padlock logo but no boot What should I do
is this a joke or what?
u formatted everything (included system where the OS is installed)...what do u expect to boot now? u deleted everything in ur phone
flash a rom
Oh boy... Here we go again... Sorry to be an ass but read people READ before go messing with your multi hundreds dollar/euro phone! And don't use the B word.
Flash a ROM and be sure to read what you should do, in what order, what the risks are and how NOT to do it. There is a huge information source right on these forums but try to give it some effort yourself.
/* end rant */
Now go to the devellopment section, read all stickies and if you then don't succeed: ask again.

why would you think formatting system is a good idea? would you format your C: drive on your computer like that?
the good news is your phone is not bricked, you need to learn to use fastboot and reinstall android.

Welcome to XDA, next time a search would have gotten you the information you were looking for.
The good news is, you're not bricked. Boot into recovery manually, mount USB and attach your phone to your computer. From there you can drop a rom into your phones storage and flash.
Take some time and read through some of the threads. Starting with the pinned ones at the top of the page.
FLASHING a rom 101:
Switch off phone
Boot to RECOVERY mode by pressing the Volunme buttons and POWER button simultaneously .
Scroll the Volume button down till you see “RECOVERY MODE ” . Then press POWER button to select.
The phone will boot into Recovery mode and you will see the RECOVERY menu.
Using the vol buttons , scroll up or down to and perform the following actions :
Press POWER button to activate your choice
- Clear cache partition
- At Advanced – select it and choose Clear Dalvik Cache
- Select ” wipe data/factory reset” ( Read the NOTES below on this step )
- GO Back and select ” Install zip from SD card” – than select ” Choose zip from SDcard” . You will see a list of all your files in the SDcard – use the volume button to scroll up or down and select the rom zip file . Press POWER button to select it
Your phone will start to flash the new rom
Wait for process to finish and phone will reboot successfully into the new rom. This process will take 2-3 minutes to complete
NOTES : Most rom developers will advise you to wipe phone , ie clear data/factory reset when flashing their upgraded roms or new roms. The main reason is to avoid bugs or unnecessary force closures and all such reports with phone wipe clean will enable the rom developers a more accurate assessment of your issues. However this step is really unnecessary if you are flashing among roms of same build ( eg 4.0.3). It is advisable to wipe clean if you are moving from say 4.01 or 4.0.2 to 4.0.3. Anyway if you did not wipe phone clean and you faced continual rebooting , than last option is switch off phone. Boot back to recovery mode, select clear data/factory reset and reboot system
You use the same method if you just need to flash KERNEL only. Just copy the kernel zip file into phone and follow same procedures. NO need to clear data/factory reset if you are flashing kernel only...
thank u everyone i solve the problem using galaxy nexus root toolkit v1.3 i press flash stock + unlock and my phone is workin sorry guys but thank u

Read before messing with your phone please.
It is a little late but with search you will find this thread easily.
you can just flash a recovery with fastboot no problem at all.
then boot to recovery and flash what ever u want.
Yo. Don't go formatting stuff unless Instructed to.
And also have a rom ready if you do this. If you would like a place where all the roms are I'll send you a link.
Are you a CDMA sprint or Verizon???
Or a GSM???

Thank you for the timely response. Unfortunately I just noticed in the background in CWM that my droid man has a red triangle with ! point inside him. The options given to me are as follows...
Reboot system now
Apply update from ADB
Apply uopdate from Ext. Storage
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Apply update from cache
Which of these options should I use if any and or should I flash CWM again on Odin in order to get the screen you are speaking about?
If I do need to flash again what are the correct steps to clear what CWM is already in place? Thank you again for all of your help. I am a noob that rooted my SIII a while back and obviously it is a little different with the Tab 7.0.

Ok I did that and got a pass on Odin. Now my screen is still in Odin mode with a green droid in the middle and under that it says in white letters Downloading....Under that it says Do not turn off target!! in green letters. How do I properly restart? In CWM as normal? (Hold POWER, Volume UP, and the HOME button all at the same time. When you see the Samsung Logo, let go of the POWER button, but keep holding the Volume UP and HOME until you see the recovery screen). Thanks...

Update...Just re read this
--Auto Reboot can be un-checked if CWM doesn't flash correctly on your device. Some have reported that un-checking Auto Reboot fixes this issue. If you un-check Auto Reboot, you will need to reboot the device yourself (refer back to step 10).
Trying now fingers crossed!!!

[Q] Tab S 8.4 (705) - for CF-AUTO Root - Can't get to download mode

When I reboot with POWER + VOLUME + HOME I reach a menu with the options:
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
wipe date/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update form cache
I then tried the first two to see if they are (act like) download mode but in Odin the tablet was not discovered. It is however discovered when the tabet plugged-in and is switched-on normally. So I guess the driver should be ok!?
I have rooted many phones and tablets but know not much detail because I am more a "Cyanogen Mod" kind of guy.
Please be so kind to let me know at which step I make the mistake.
Thank you

Hi! You have reboot into stock recovery. Try volume down instead of volume up together with Home & Power buttons. Good luck!

First BE Advised, using the following methods, you WILL LOSE ALL OF YOUR DATA and HAVE A FACTORY FRESH CONFIGURATION WITH EXCEPTION TO KNOX IF YOU'VE TRIPPED IT PREVIOUSLY and YOU WILL HAVE FACTORY RECOVERY ONLY ONCE COMPLETED (CAPS for emphasis only, we want to make sure you know you won't have your data once you take these steps):
Part 1 of 2 - Master reset with hardware keys
A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloaded content, ringtones, images, apps, and contacts. It does not delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.
If the device menus are frozen or unresponsive, you can master reset using hardware keys. To perform a master reset, follow these steps:
Back up all data on the internal memory.
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time:
Volume Up key
Home key
Power key.
When 'GALAXY Note 3' appears on the screen, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and the Home key.
When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
Press the Volume down key to highlight 'wipe data / factory reset.'
Press Power button to select.
Press the Volume down key to highlight 'delete all user data.'
Press Power button to select and start the master reset. When the master reset is complete, 'Reboot system now' is highlighted.
Press the Power key to turn the restart the device.
These same directions are also provided on the T-Mobile website at the following URL:
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-9049
Part 2 of 2 - Reloading your phone...
You should use a stock image of your current build to perform the following steps:
Recover phone:
1. Put phone in download mode
2. Open Heimdall
3. On utilities tab “check device” If your phone cannot be read, it may be far worse than expected.
4. Click on flash tab after successfully detected.
5. In the pit section, choose the pit file I provided.
6. Click add in the partitions box to the right > Select BOOT
7. Select the boot.img file provided
8. Click add in the partitions box again to the right > Select CACHE
9. Select the cache.img.ext4 file provided.
10. Click the add in the partitions box again > Select RECOVERY
11. Select the recovery provided (you can probably use any recovery, but provided is twrp 2.6.3.7)
12. Make sure no reboot is checked
13. The phone may flash all the way to the end and error out. If this is the case, proceed with steps 14 and 15. If not, proceed to step 16.
14. **Pull battery
15. **Replace
16. Boot to recovery, and re-install your backup (or another ROM, whatever).
The same steps are also listed in more significant detail via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545009
Hope this helps.
