I got my nexus 7 a week ago. Everything is working awesome but I really worried about the hot issue on the back side under the top speakers. Whenever I surf web for not more than 5 minutes the back feels a minor hot, I only take 3 to 5 pics with camera then the back of my tablet feels more hot, when I do gaming(Riptide GP2) for not more than 10 minutes then at this point my tablet,s back become really hot after this I have to close the game and wait for the tab to cool down. Is anyone else getting this or only me.
Please guide me what to do I am really very worried about this right now I am on Stock 4.3.

mine gets hot too, but i installed elementaX kernel, Undervolting really helps keep it less hot
My tablet also was getting hot near the glass by the front camera when playing riptide 2 so I decided to root my tablet and the heat issue is now gone I'm running illusion ROM. also I noticed the heat issue was not there before the multi touch update.
The overheating isn't a universal problem. I haven't had any issues with heat in a fair bit of use.

Anyone else's getting very hot. I already returned two rezounds for getting up to 150now my nex is up to 111 right now and all I was doing was playing around on Facebook. Most of the heat feels like it is on the top half of the phone and the screen gets extremely hot

Is your brightness up high? And also are you charging it while playing on it
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Charging now wasn't then and yeah I keep brightness up otherwise the screen is way too grainy. You should be able to use your screens top levels without scolding your fingers lol just curious if this is a common thing or If I have to yet again get another phone
Rolled out from my Gnex Prime
My phone heats up on the top part like yours but mainly when I use it while it charges or if I keep the screen awake for about 20-30+ min straight.
Edit: just like your laptop or TV or psp or any other electronic device lol

Not seen any issues on mine so far and it doesn't get as hot as my iPhone 4S when that is charging and/or using bluetooth for making calls.
yeh my phone gets quite warm also , crazy thing is when it gets warm im sure it affects the colour temp of the screen.
Mine gets hots quickly when I play Riptide a lot.
I noticed this too, but. I don't feel it since its just the top half and my hands are gripping the bottom half. I do feel it when I stick it in my pocket and my thigh gets really warm.

Mine heats up at the top back only when I'm using mobile data to do stuff. But I can use wifi all day with top brightness with no overheat. Stupid.

Sounds like she's gettin hot for most people in the same spot. This over heating phone **** is pissing me off

like right now. I literally just turned my phone on 5 minutes ago and am on wifi and I can feel the top getting hot

when I got my phone a few weeks ago (GSM 4.0.1) my phone easily warms up especially at the back near the camera area. After manually updating to 4.0.2, I really noticed it was gone. Now even I am watching youtube videos for more than 20-30mins my phone doesn't warm up even a bit unlike before i got it on stock 4.0.1 in which just turning on a wifi connection and gps warms the back of my nexus without running an app.

Define overheating. Because i think the phone does quite well for how much horsepower is under the hood. Mine gets warm doing this, that and the other. The only time i was seriously concerned was watching a netflix movie over mhl and really i was really only concerned about the battery temp than the phone. The phone and its components are a big step up from phones 3 years ago. People used to whine about phones getting warm when 3g heated them up and 3g was becoming the norm. Fast forward to today and there are more powerful components packed into less space, and less ventilated at that. If you dont like your phone warming up get a dumbphone and be done with it. I think the nexus and most other smartphones do quite well. And this was before i undervolted it. I can only imagine how many useless threads will pop up about heat when quad cores come out. Personally when i upgrade next, hopefully two years from now and not the annual phone i am accustomed to, i hope a dual core cpu and gpu at 28nm or less will be sufficient and be well within the thermal windows and limits for how powerful these pocket size devices have become and dramatically changed our social lives.
Crazy world, ay?
mine gets hot up top on my ear when I'm on a call. I found at least by switching to the new 4.0.3 radio and doing a combination of over clocking + under volting it doesn't get nearly as hot anymore.
I'm talking when my battery temp is 111° and the top of it feels much much hotter than that. I'm on 4.0.2 I understand the phones will get warm but they shouldn't from ten minutes of Facebook. If I was watching Netflix using my GPS and doing so over 4G then yeah scold my hand I get that but not frickin Facebook or internet browsing or anything like that. I really like the phone and ill be keeping it but apparently won't be playing many games lol

I use a SetCPU profile to peg back the processor to ~700mhz when the temp gets over 40c

Whoa, it's overheating? You might have a defective phone. Mine gets pretty hot but the heat hasn't led to any stability issues or damage like yours. (Note: It's not overheating if there's no damage, so I'm assuming by your text that your phone got damaged)

I don't think his phone got damaged, I think it's just hot.
Mine gets pretty hot but the operation of the phone has been fine. It sounds like all of the phones operate basically identical to this.
No not damaged. I leave it alone once it gets real hot. I've turn down my brightness to help prevent it a little. Def doesn't look as good lol

If it's just getting hot it's not overheating.

Can you try to do the same things with minimal screen brightness, and see if there is any change?
Too low.

Thanks for your reply I tried it to the brightness bar at very end but this is not solving my problem. It's not happen only with Riptide GP2 but with the others games too.

Mine gets a little hot too, but much better than S4 and iPad3, so I am actually happy with it.
I guess that's just the way it is, unless you can compare yours with another one and yours is hotter under the same situation.
My 2 cents, I believe it isn't about the screen problem with brightness. The heat should be coming from the running processor. So far never heard about overheating on new nexus 7 yet. I'll suggest send for replacement , worst come to worst.
Because something gets hot doesn't mean there is a problem.
Its physics.
And feel is irrelevant. You need the actual temperature to determine if there is a issue.
Small thin devices with a powerful SoC will get warm under load
i think, if its still touchable and not using to much battery you shouldn't worry.
also you could try turning off wlan/lte and it shouldn't get that warm.
So... Im getting back my recently purchased Galaxy Note 2014 White Wifi 32GB for another one. Thanks god the shop gave 15 days in order to see if something went wrong.
Here is the point: Once the battery reach some percent between 20-30%, suddenly, just in a second, it drops till 10%, and seconds later, to 5%. No root, no apps opened, no strange software installed, Samsung Motion options used (except some S-pen functions) or Devs options touched, i checked out all this things after it happened the first time. I only used it to search on Firefox, write/read PDFs with ezPDF, see some movies or see how Real Racing 3 or Dead Trigger would see on the screen.
No idea about whats going on.
In adition, im worried about this tablet´s heating. Sometimes gets alarming and it feels pretty uncomfortable, as you feel something could break bad inside if so much heating is hitting the hardware, and men, im just using 3 simple apps at a time. I get Real Racing 3 use GPU really hard but... it feels moron as this game hasnt been update so it can use high graphic settings on this tablet.

You ha e a defect. Mine never gets alarming hot. It gets warm when playing big games, but so do all tablets. You can feel something break inside? Send it back.
I just picked up a 10.1 on Sunday, and I really like it, but it seems to be getting fairly hot on the back cover, even with normal use. Just doing some web browsing, installing apps, Clash of Clans, etc. It actually doesn't really matter what I'm doing. If I'm using it for more than 10 minutes, it gets hot on the back near the top of the device under the fingers of my right hand (when held in landscape).
Is this a common thing, or should I be exchanging it for a new one?
Sounds a bit strange, i play emulators on mine and other intensive stuff and it barely gets warm.
Hmm, maybe I need a couple more days with it. If it persists, I might exchange it.

Yes that might be best, I decided to stress mine out so the 4 high power cores and the GPU were maxed out, it gets very warm but I had to really push it for a couple of minutes for that to happen, with general web browsing and the like it shouldn't even be getting warm.
You mentioned Clash of Clans. My 12.2 will get extremely hot when playing CoC. Might be the GPU.
in CM12 no dvfs
Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the LG G5 stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
i think the G5 heats a little bit too much
today i was simply downloading Hearthstone (800MB approx) and in standby it heated too much
i think its quite excellent actually.
i could not notice any throttling during gaming etc. well maybe thats just because even the gpu is idling at <15% during asphalt 8 play
I had zero issues with thus device heating up until last night... I was at the movies with the fam.. In the theater I only had 1x for data and the phone got hot while searching for a better data connection. Cooled right down after leaving the theater.
Coming from an htc m7, so a huge step anyway... Phone is top!
This was one of the first things I noticed because I used the gps probably 45 mins after taking it out of the box. I watch YouTube vids for around an hour a day and after a while it does become noticeable but I have to be honest; it really doesn't bother me all that much.
Can feel warm and a little uncomfortable in warmer weathers (20-30 Celsius).
Mine heats up a lot. I'm a little concerned honestly.

I don't experience anything unusual.
heres the deal boys...
Yes this phone gets hot when its used hard.....if your not incurring reboots while running it hard , then you'll probably be good
After a month buying this , I started getting reboots ....hot and cold
The first time I sent it in , they said to leave sim and battery at home...
I got it back and started the usual 30 or more updates from App Store and phone got real hot and started rebooting again every minute
even when it was cool...it rebooted but at a longer interval...
They told me to send battery in too on second go around...
Just got it back , it had a system update to do and then the 30+ app updates....this phone was getting a workout...
I did the App updates right after the system update with the optimization ....
I'm 20 apps into it...the battery cooled down and the apps are still going...
looks like they have a battery issue with these phones. If I don't report back , then all is good...

No, it doesn't mean that LG has an issue with the batteries. It only means that YOU had issue with YOUR battery.
I'm glad your phone is OK and it was just the battery.
Only got mine yesterday, but I've used it a lot in that short time and it get nowhere near as hot my previous 2 phone a Nexus 4 and G3 it gets warm but not what I would call hot compared to them 2 anyway, at its worst mostly watching videos it can get a quite warm, but gaming it barely gets warm, I'm loving it so far but time will tell I guess but so far so good.
Mine heats up too, specially while using Snapchat or YouTube. Haven't played Asphalt or other graphic-intensive games, so I can't comment whether my device has the same issue with them or not.
Mine stays quite cool during heavy usage, it does get realy hot while charging though. I expect this is the same with others?
Coming from the Samsung Galaxy Note series (Note 1 - Note 5), the LG G5 gets pretty hot even when idling.... My solution? Waiting for the Note 7 to be released and then goodbye LG!

Better than the V10. My old V10 overheated while I was using Skype to the point it shut itself off. Had no problems with the G5.

I'm so excited for some Pokémon Go! ... But I assume with high precision GPS, screen, camera, connection, my phone's going to get spicy hot. It warms up easily, otherwise, but it gets hot to the touch sometimes while charging.
