CM 10.2 Nightly issue - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I can't post in the CM10 thread, so I'm posting here. Overall I love the look and bloat free feel of cm10.2, but I have an issue that I want to get out there to see if it's a software issue or a problem with my phone only. For some reason my phone WiFi refuses to scan automatically or on demand. If it is connected at home and I go to work the phone won't automatically connect to my work WiFi like it would on other Roms. When I try to tell it to scan it won't and will continue to show my home WiFi as the only network available, even though I am miles away at that point. The only work around I've found is to reboot the phone, and then it grabs the network with no problem. It seems that the only time my phone will scan for new networks is after a reboot. Once connected WiFi works fine. Anyways I wanted to get this issue out there.

Sounds like something is wrong. Could very well be rom related, but it could be hardware also. I would venture to say it's rom related.
Simple solution. Pick any TW rom, create a nandroid and flash the TW rom and see if the phone works correctly? Probably will voila your answer is at your fingertips.

mine notifies me of open networks when I leave wi-fi on do see how it would be software related unless another app is messing with it

Yeah this problem started when I switched from MOAR to the cm.

Home WiFi not working on E4GT

I obviously have the Sprint S2, and I continue to have issues staying connected to my home wifi. I have no problems connecting to other wifi networks. It will connect, then after a few minutes, it disconnects, even though it shows I'm still connected in my notification bar. I've searched high and low. It seems many other people are having the same issue, but no one seems to have a fix. Anyone here know of a solution? Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking it might be the router because I've not had problems with any other networks. I just ask because I've noticed that other people have had the same issues with this phone. Here's a screenie of what I'm running. Thanks

So I finally figured out what the issue was. A lot of mobile devices have a hard time connecting to highly secured networks such as wpa2. If you have a wpa, or wpa2 protected router, you can only use numbered passwords. Up to 10 characters. I tried this, and it's the only solution I found. If that still doesn't work, change your wpa2 security to wpa, with a numbered password only.

Try changing the channel on the router, force it to a different frequency B or G only also.

if you have to use numbers and only 10 chars, it sounds like a router config issue. sounds like you have WEP on rather than WPAx
Wifi busted
I actually have the same issue. Wifi worked flawlessly on gb. On ics every time phone goes to sleep it drops, notification says connected. Toggle wifi off and back on works, phone sleep back off. Tried wifi never, only when plugged in. Switched to 2.4 ghz only tried 5 ghz , too. Linksys ea4500 wpa2/aes(setting) brand new. None of the numerous other devices in the house have any issues. Speeds seem awesome.
Tried factory reset nothing works. Even got sprint to get me a new phone, still no solution other than going back to el29. Currently, running fi03 stock rooted. Scared to try latest fi25. Any other suggestions would be great.

still sounds like a router compatibility issue. See if it happens on a different wifi.
The only way i can successfully stay connected is if there is no security or wep is used. Same router nothing had changed. Again worked flawlessly with EL29 update comes to FF18 and it no longer works. Sprint has said it is a known issue with ics on samsung and htc but no fix. Don't want to give up my security just to use wifi. If i roll back to gb everything works again without changing anything in the router. So i don't believe that is it. Plus, i know all about router settings not a noob. I beleive it to be something in the phone update.

My wife runs fully stock newest release and its fine. Try a different router. routers can have compatibility issues with devices. Also you say "its a known issue" but can you give a source?
I'm not saying its router settings. I'm saying it can be a compatibility issue between router and phone chipset.

I guess i should've mentioned there are 2 of the same phone in the house. Wifi works fine on the other device. Source? As in sprint tech support told me over the phone it was a known issue with samsung and htc devices, not all are affected. This is why sprint decided to replace my old non working phone for the new one.
Not sure why of it were truly a setting inside the router why would one work but not the other? Seems highly improbable to me, just saying. I do appreciate the feedback though.

So two of the same phones. One connects and one doesn't. Interesting. About the tech, seems a pretty wide declaration of an issue. samsung and htc phones. lol. There are a ton of those and its a 'known issue'. If it were a known issue, they would have it tied to a specific phone and wouldn't say 'well err um some phones work and some dont'. lol. Anyway, I don't usually trust those techs.
Back to the issue. If one works and one doesn't... Then it sounds software or still compatibility type issue.
Have you tried these things? If it were me, this what i'd try....
1) I'd reflash your phone's ROM fresh and try again. Full wipe. It's possible the update boinked your wpa_supplicant settings.
2) DHCP: stick a static IP on your android and see what happens. (dont confuse this with a static dhcp lease) DHCP does some interesting things on android phones as far as wakelocks and such.
3) In the router, turn off all the bell and whistle crap... Some of these routers have things like 'afterburner' and things like that. It can cause issues at times. Keep track of what you turn off and obviously if it don't work, turn it back on again.
EDIT:
This is interesting as well. Your not the only one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1847889&page=4
Try the things I posted but ultimately, you may need to just flash a different ROM version... Doesn't mean you need to go all the way back to EL26. At least you know its not only you...
So I initially called Centurylink, and they told me to change security settings. I did this, and it worked for a short period, but then dropped again. I couldn't figure out why this kept happening, and it had become quite frustrating. Then I realized that I had created a new network with a personalized name and password. My laptops connect fine to that network, but my phone won't, so I connected to the initial network created by Centurylink, and have had no issues. So I can suggest trying that as well. Hope that helps

Same issue for me too, since moving from gb. Running S710.10 S.FI27
I see this on both of the WIFI networks I connect with regularly. Home is worse. Every other device at home, including phones, PCs, TVs, tablets: mine and guests, can connect and stay connected just fine. My Epic 4g with ICS can't stay connected to save it's life.
I'm about ready to try the less complex key route, but not my 1st choice. Any other ideas?

different rom? mine never ever disconnects running cm10.
Set up both home networks using WPA/WPA2-PSK and no issues. Did have issues at work with WEP so perhaps that's the offending solution? If so try TKIP instead.

Gone in FI25/FI27 - looks like it won't be re-appearing until JB, at least if FI10 was accurate in this respect.

Have you even bothered to troubleshoot your own issue? Obviously since wifi works fine for almost everyone including me it's something with your setup. What do you have your wifi sleep mode set to? Try changing your frequency mode to just 2.4. Have you tried any different networks?

It's a known bug to some. I had a thread about this issue I believe. It had left for a few builds and then reappeared to some on the FI25 build. At one point we narrowed it down to a certain routers but no real evidence. It doesn't matter what your settings are in, even if you keep your settings on "keep awake always". The WiFi just stays as if connected but really isn't. It'll show greyed out bars or not active. I gave up and ignore it.
Laughing at some of you comments here. YES, I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING. Different routers, all kinds of wifi settings, even used a root explorer to change some wifi settings. Still issues. I am ignoring it now and was hoping for a fix and it's pissing me off. Looks like it may be a hardware issue on some phones

What exactly should I be looking for in my router settings? Btw, wifi still disconnects on Parandroid JB...wtf. Everything worked fine on GB.
I still have the issue where wifi just sucks down my battery worse than 3G when it idles, but the phone gets plenty of deep sleep. It's happened across roms, fresh wipes and only on ICS and never on any gingerbread setups I've used. I've tried 3 different routers, on different frequencies. I've spent countless hours combing through battery and cpu monitors. My final verdict is that ICS was for the most part a total **** show for this phone, and it's only usable because of the selfless devs who devote their free time to tweaks and builds that get the best they can out of it.
Sorry op, but in my anecdotal example, there is no answer for particular wifi problems on ICS with this phone.

What channel and encryption type are you using (for your main connection)? Also what brands of routers have you tried it on. I don't think it is you, but I am just curious.
I use to use Linksys routers, but the last 2 I had were turds different models, and sent them in for RMA to verify the unit wasn't just a bad unit, now I won't use ANY Cisco product unless I have to (after the routers overheating in the middle of winter in my basement with proper ventilation and sending them back a few times, and their new 'secure' firmware that only allows you to connect via their website back into my local router).
lol don't listen to these people telling you to check the router settings...
It is a bug in ICS (most roms i have tried), i suggest downloading an app called Wi-fi keep alive.

[Q] Wifi Calling Issue

This is my Orignal post:
I do have a slight problem that I have not been able to find a solution for. When I am at work I have wifi calling on all the time because I don't get good cell reception. We have hundreds of access points all of them overlay one another so students don't loose Wireless connection. When I move around and switch from one access point to another the wifi calling just stops or tries to connect to the access point it originally connected to. Now I find this odd because I have set these access points up like I explain above so they overlay just so this would not happen. Now when I was on Stock ICS non rooted the Wifi calling didn't drop at all. I doubt you can test this but I am hoping you can point me in the right direction on how to resolve this issue.
A person wrote back to me and said this
(My guess is that it has something to do with how the rom polls for new access points. Polling may be set low to reduce battery consumption and causing problems for you because of it)
Which makes sense I am wondering if there is a easy tool or a app to check this out
I can't even get WiFi calling to be stable on ONE access point....

Need Some Major Help Please

I have had my Galaxy Nexus for just over a year and have been running MMuzzy's version of Android 4.3 since July 30th. Just today, my phone stopped connecting to my home router, and I have literally tried everything to fix the Wi-Fi connection. First I did the simple stuff like restarting the phone and putting it into airplane mode. Then, I tried forgetting the network and re-entering the password, and wiped the cache and the delvik cache. Finally, I reverted back to Android 4.2.2 with a clean install, but I still don't have a working Wi-fi connection.
When I click on the profile, it barely flashes "connecting" and just reverts to "Saved, secured..." I know that this is not a router issue since my laptop, roommate's phones and laptops, and my girlfriend's phone all work fine.
Does anyone have any suggestions at all? I'm worried that my phone is done-zo.
Have you tried connecting to another wifi network with your phone? You could also try to create a wifi hotspot on another mobile device and connect to it. If both works then you know at least that your GNex' wifi hardware isn't broken.
Total shot in the dark, bur have you updated the ROM to a new version? Maybe the dev implemented a kernel or some change to the kernel that caused wifi problems for you.

[Q] Anyone able to share "AT&T Hot Spots" from their rom?

I'm trying to get at&t hot spots to work on a custom rom and the apk that I have I'm not sure if it is the right one I should be doing. Anyone able to put the apk on dropbox or something.
Justice bump. I asked this question a little while ago and never got a good answer. Out of curiousity what APK is it that you've got? I know digging through the processes it is listed as running in my phone. Replicating this would be great for ROMs, especially since I'm working part time at Starbucks....
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
This is what I tried using...
https://www.dropbox.com/s/fc68tce5vdvyayk/att_hotspots.apk
It shows up as a running app but it doesn't do anything. I'm going to check my bosses phone (S4) tomorrow to see how the app opens when I open it on his phone. On my phone, the app keeps saying there is an update when I select it but it never updates.
I agree that it would be great to get this working. A colleague mentioned that he was able to by both installing the apk and copying the apk to \system\app (for auto running). So far no luck on my end
This is different than the one that I had tried and looks to be the right one. I downloaded it to my SD card and went to install and got a message saying it was already installed as a system app (makes sense for stock). Have you tried doing it from there to keep functionality of it when flashing ROMs? I would say this is the right track alright.
Is your custom rom AOSP-based? Because I think I remember reading that the functionality of "AT&T hot spots" is built into the framework for touchwiz roms.
It is. I havent been able to find confirmation either way. Just that the hot spots app is what makes the connection.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
First things first you have to make sure your kernel supports wifi tethering, without this you are wasting your time. In all my time on android as long as tethering is enabled in the kernel its just a matter of turning on the hotspot from within the settings menu. I don't recall the touchwiz menus to tell you exactly where the tethering option is but in aosp based roms its under the 'more' option in the wireless and networks section. This is also where you can set the ssid, security encryption, etc for the wireless network you are broadcasting.
Hi. It's not wifi tethering that I'm after. I want to use the AT&T wifi service that my office building gets since my cell signal is terrible at work. It's the only thing I miss from the Samsung ROM
OK so I flashed a ROM and tried installing the apk you were using and it seems to have made a small difference. I'm automatically connected without signing in to Starbucks AT&T WiFi (the way I would usually have to without the app) after having saved the network. Strange thing is looking at the app itself seems to suggest its not running. Running Apps shows 0.00kb in data. I'm not sure if its then a function of the ROM (which I doubt, its never done this before) or the app.
