I have a GN2, AT&T stock ROM (Jelly Bean 4.1.2), rooted with CWM SuperUser. When I connected the phone to OEM wall charger, other charger, or to PC via USB the phone switches to "silent" mode - no sound, no vibration - and cannot be changed back. With phone connected or after disconnecting, the volume rocker on the left side will cause the volume slider to pop up, but it remains stuck on silent. When I open the master volume control, Ringtone shows 0 / silenced and cannot be adjusted, Media shows last setting and is adjustable, and both Notifications and System are greyed out and show 0 / silenced. Long press on the Power Button shows "Mute" is activated (green underscore) but tapping Mute, Vibrate or Sound has no effect other than to close the "Device options" pop up. The only remedy that I have found is to reboot the phone.
Other things that I have tried and found not to help are:
- Long press Home, go to Task Manager > RAM > Clear memory. No change
- use Battery Doctor and Clean Master to close all running apps. No change.
- turn off Developer Options (usually on). No change.
- tried adjusting volume in Settings > Sound. Greyed out / locked as described above. No change.
- tried different USB cables - no change
- tried different PC - no change
Anyone have any idea why this is happening and how it could be resolved?
I appear to have solved the problem - sort of. After further troubleshooting by freezing apps one at a time via Titanium, I found that the Bedside Mode app was the culprit. Once frozen the issue disappeared. I tried deleting data and defrosting the app - problem reappeared. For now I've deleted Bedside Mode and the problem seems to have resolved.

This is slowly driving me crazy.
The issue started happening about 3 weeks ago. All of a sudden my GNex (unlocked and rooted stock 4.1.1, GSM) wouldn't stay in vibrate or mute mode - whenever I used a widget or app (Morequicklypanel, Widgetsoid) to change the ringer mode it would select vibrate and within a second (sometimes faster) automatically revert back to normal. A second press on the widget or app would however properly enable vibrate. It would seem the issue happens after several (+5 minutes) of inactivity and screen-off. Tasker became useless as my nightly silent profile is properly enabled in the evening but only for fractions of a second; then the phone goes back to normal ringer mode.
I tried different solutions - removing Tasker/Morequickly/Audio Manager, using different widgets (it happens even when using the power button menu!). I can't find any application that would cause such behaviour: Audio Manager has an option to lock out volume changes but it was set to off; anyhow, it happens even when AM is uninstalled, same with Tasker.
Any ideas how to trace this behaviour? If possible I'd like to avoid a factory reset/new ROM...
Please help me, xda, you are my only hope!
I was having this problem as well. I looked at adb logcat while I had my phone plugged in and tried silencing it after letting it sit idle for a while. I noticed this:
Code:
I/ActivityManager( 304): Start proc com.doubleTwist.alarmClock for broadcast com.doubleTwist.alarmClock/.RingerModeChangedReceiver: pid=29539 uid=10147 gids={3003, 1015, 1028}
so I tried removing DoubleTwist Alarm Clock, and so far, so good. If you have that installed, you might try removing it.
Hi all, Is there any way that I can turn off the vibrator for the entire device? My HOX vibrates for message notifications even though unchecking the vibrate options at Message settings. Even after the power saver ON (Vibration - set to OFF), the device vibrates during restart, message notifications and occasionally during incoming calls. I reported and gave the device at HTC service center. They delivered without doing anything rather to reset the device to factory settings for the first time. Second time they replaced the vibrator but the issue not solved.
Now that is there any application which can turn off the vibrator? The device runs on Unrooted - JellyBean.
It's unlikely that an app can turn it off if the settings can't...
Settings > Sound > Vibrate is turned off I'm assuming?
Thanks peedub, For the reply.
Yes, every settings for vibration is turned OFF.
Settings - Sound - Vibration
Message - Settings - Notifications - Message Notifications - OFF
It is annoying even when the device is in Power Saver Mode, the device still vibrates.
1. For message notifications
2. For Call Notifications
3. For Alarm Notifications
I'm also having the same problem. I installed other SMS apps to try and fix my MMS problem and was thinking if that could have messed up the vibration settings...

Does anyone know how to set up a task to turn on do not disturb, or priority only, or whatever it's called? Coming from htc, you could just tell tasker to turn the volume all the way down or turn on silent mode. Can't seem to duplicate that on the g4. I'm using smart settings now, but the results are inconsistent.
i think you need secure settings (plugin, playstore) to archive this
In Tasker, there's an option for Audio > Interrupt Mode - in there you can choose Priority or All. This should do what you want.
I have Tasker setup to mute the phone just before and just after the "battery full" sound plays, as it cannot be disabled (without root).

Perfect, thanks. And I was using a task to turn off the battery full sound also, until I realized that I can just keep the volume level for "touch feedback and system" all the way down. That gets rid of the battery full sound along with some of the other ones that were bothering me.
My favorite g4 tasker workarounds are to set up a task to turn the volume all the way back up again after I plug in headphones and it automatically turns down the volume "to protect my hearing", and adding an icon in the status bar whenever it's charging because I need a visual confirmation that it's still plugged in and I can't make out that lightning bolt in the default battery icon.
Ok so, under the original lollipop silence settings, when you pressed a volume key it brought up the volume bar, with the options underneath to choose "None, Priority, All" for sounds. So I could just tap the volume key, tap priority, and go to sleep knowing there would be no sounds apart from my alarm. I could also do this at work, because it was quick and silent. It also had the advantage that when I changed it back to "All", my volume would revert back to my old setting. All easy and good.
Now though... theres two choices.
1. Tap the volume all the way down, to vibrate. The phone vibrates loudly (even if I have all vibrations turned off). Then I press it again to go to silent. Then I have to do the same in reverse (including another vibration) to get it back up to my old volume. Dumb.
2. I found out you can tap the bell icon in the volume bar to cycle between states. This at least keeps the volume on my normal setting. But it still vibrates when i cycle through it.
SO... Is there no way to go from normal to silent without the damn thing vibrating loudly? I never use vibrate, so I'd want to just deactivate this option entirely. I used to be able to do this.
I have tried play store apps which say they do this... but when I set them to the "silent" option (not their vibrate option) and ring my phone, it vibrates! Even though I have phone call vibrate set to off.
This is such a stupid change. I know people disliked the priority options (I thought they were an improvement myself), but this new system just seems so much worse than anything I've used in the last 5 years of android ownership.
Help me obi wan
If you have an unlocked bootloader you can flash a costom kernel and turn the entire vibration off.

Cant unlock bootloader unfortunately.
Hi there
Sometimes when I receive an email the notification will not show up on the phone, that is no sound and no led notification.
However as soon as I press the power button or unlock the screen the notification will pop up.
It is almost as if the device goes to sleep state when screen is turned off.
The emails that I miss at times due to this problem are time sensitive and really important for my work.
Such delays are at times resulting in direct monetary loss.
This was never an issue on my Galaxy Note 3 from which I have upgraded.
Can anyone of you guide and assist me as to which settings need to be changed to get it to work properly.
Many thanks for your time.
I have a simmilar issue here. Some notifications show up normally, like mail and facebook, but other apps only show notifications if i have they are opened.
It's like the system is forcing close those apps.

Still haven't found any solution.
Things I have tried :
1. Going to Power Master > Battery Mode > Balance
Thinking that in other modes it would kill background apps to save power.
2. Went to Power Master > Autostart Manager > Added apps I need notifications to start on system startup.
Apart from the mentioned problem, I see another one.
I opened What's app notification setting and turned Group Notifications off and Message notifications are set to show silently and minimize.
However the app itself changes the setting and forces messages on screen by itself over riding my changes. Have been happening since a long time now no matter how many times I change the settings.
Update if you can find any resolution.
