Hey
Is there a way to unlock this phone for free? I have a friend who is trying to go from Bell to Telus. I was hoping there was a software hack available (like there has been for the Galaxy S series so far) but seem to come up empty. Is there such thing as a free unlock for this phone?
Thanks in advance.
No you are going to have to pay to unlock
Unlocks are cheap anyways, I unlocked mine for $5.00 and got the code in 4 minutes.

yes this is a option but sometimes some eBay auction are for good price but different network due to I asking
I search this forum as well modaco but I didn't find any solution for free unlock.
Than probably I will go to Samsung Galaxy SII GT-I9100 there is possibility for unlock.
But ark S looks design better for me.
There is no free option. But the prices for unlock code range from $6 to $20, so it's not too bad.
Or unlock with setools using test point which will unlock the boatloader and sim.
It is a paid for service contact jinx13.

that is too costly for me man, im just a student
No you can't. That's how much the phone costs. You must pay the full amount.

I know you can, the only question is will it be compatible hardware wise. There is a guide on how to unlock it through the dialer menu, if you are up to it. Or T-Mobile will unlock it for you if you are a customer. :good:
You can but he's taking about a phone on contact. You can't buy a contact phone and not pay the monthly service

unlock using dialer is possible or not?

Yes it is possible. but the problem isn't unlocking. the problem is that the phone costs around $600 dollars unlocked. the reason why it costs $199 on contract is because it is on contract and the company knows that they will have you for at least 2 years. and also because the monthly bill costs more.
So, if you want to send an S4 to your bro, you have to pay the full amount of around $600
Either way you decide to go, you CAN SIM-unlock the T-Mobile S4.
Yes. You can sim unlock it either way but i advice you not to buy it on contact as you will have to pay a monthly bill for a service you're not using.

I know that I was unable to get an unlock code through T-Mobile because I bought it outright from them and didn't have T-Mobile service. They did give me the option to get in touch with Samsung customer service and I would be able to get the unlock codes from them, but there was no ETA on how long it would take. Other options are to buy an unlock code from one of the many reputable sites or to try the unlock method over in General (which is free, obviously.)
Hello,
did anyone face a problem in unlocking the at&t version because i'm thinking to buy the at&t version of optimus g pro from ebay and then unlock it from any seller on ebay or any other unlocking sites
Thanx
No issues in unlocking at all.. I did that same thing... Bought on eBay and unlocked using cellunlocker.net

Hey all,
I'm looking to buy this non contract to use with my Tmob $30 5gig plan.
I was looking for the best price and was wondering if it would be possible to get a better deal buying this outright from a carrier and unlocking it myself or if I should get it somewhere else, amazon or something.
I'm also confused by the models as I believe I've seen some with 3 gigs of ram and some with less. I would like to get the best model available, most ram and storage.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rich

I bought mine from www.blackwireless.com and got within 2 days. Phone is international unlocked version without bloatware.
That international unlocked version still has a locked boot loader. Also, this is the 16gig, 2gig ram version - not the 32gig, 3gig ram version. Plus it costs $649 for that version without the SquareTrade warranty.
If I were you I would try to get a 32gig/3gig model from T-Mobile because that is the only one without a locked bootloader. I think the full price from T-Mobile is similar or a bit cheaper even, and that phone will run with about any GSM sim chip just by plugging it in and maybe changing the APN.
Cool. Thanks guys

Wow! Your right! Only $598! I've seen that model for over $700!
I think I'm going to wait a little bit if I can though but not sure. I may just grab this. I don't think I should have an issue using my T-Mobile off contract Sim.
Thanks

You also will not get any wifi calling if you buy a non T-mobile phone, and that's an important feature IMO that's impossible to add layer.
WiFi calling! Cool! Don't have that with the nexus 4!
