[Q] Gsm cloning - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hey guys so I found a GS4 a while ago and I unlocked it but when I turn it on I can't connect to T-Mobile network but it does connect to AT&T. So long story short I took it to the cellphone shot where I unlocked it and he told me that in order to make it work for T-Mobile he had to clone the GSM. Does anyone here ever heard of that and is it even possible

its because its blacklisted on tmobile, because it was reported as lost. I know what they want to do to get it to work, and it is illegal and can not be discussed on XDA.

Thanks I just wanted to know what that means. I never heard of it and I wanted to know what in the heck was that .

I think it means " return to its rightful owner! "
I'm just sayin!

Don't be a ****. When you found the phone, you took it away from someone who has lost it. Return the phone to its rightful owner. Go through the contacts and find a contact for 'Mom' or something of the sort to get closer to finding the owner.

Don't worry guys I just gonna go to T-Mobile and turn it in I can't even use it anyway and I am due for a upgrade by November. I still don't know what in heck is that

Oh by the way how do I delete this thread

Sell it on eBay or craigslist

What it is, is that they clone the IMEI of a good phone and use it on that one. This is highly illegal. As for deleting it. I will close it.

If you are a 3 month(90 Days) old customer, then call them and they will unlock it for free.
this applies for all phones except IPHONE

not entirely true. i was a 14 day customer when AT&T gave me my unlock code.
but then i've read stories of people being AT&T customers for years, and they were refused an unlock code for their S3.
just try your luck. if you don't want to call, there's always online chat too. this is what i did.
The problem is i am a tmobile customer.

how did you get the phone in the first place?
did you buy it from someone? if you bought it from someone, the previous owner would had to have unlocked it (i think).
did you win it? AT&T should be able to unlock it if you can prove you won it through a contest.
otherwise, you'd have to pay through a third party company to unlock it. google for websites that will unlock it for you.
Tell them you're going out of the country temporarily and that you want to use a sim card there. Maybe they'll do it.

Tmobile prepaid

Im thinking about selling my s3 from sprint. I was looking to get a s3 from Tmobile from Craigslist. If i active it will it with a sim card i get from walmart will it work if the previous owner has a previous balance? Because I won't know until I get the phone then get the card because people lie on the Internet sometimes to get stuff sold.

As long as its not blacklisted you'll be fine.

He owes money to t mobile for the phone?
Tmo will most likely block it after a while if the remaining balance isn't paid off for the phone.

Ok how will I know it's blacklisted?

It won't work lol what you can do is call T-Mobile and give them the iemi and they'll tell you if its good or not.

Best advice I've heard is to go to the T-Mobile store with the person and have the rep there confirm the details (such as if they owe money). And have them add the phone to your account and/or make a note about it.

Not Registered on Network error

I recently received a T-Mobile Galaxy Note II (SGH-T889) and I can't seem to connect to T-Mobile's network. I checked the IMEI and according to T-Mobile, it is clean. I cannot make or receive calls/texts as I receive a "Not Registered by Network" error every time. Under the "Status" section in the Settings menu shows my phone number, but it says "Out of Service" under Service State and "Unknown" under Mobile Network Type as seen in the pictures. I was wondering if anyone could help me resolve this issue...Thanks!
Did you check with Tmobile directly? Third party sites that check IMEI often don't work. If you have service -service bars and data and still doesn't work, your IMEI is probably blocked. I can't think of anything else. Try to switch to different ROM

Try to replace the SIM card.

Try check the apn?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Are you just in a bad area for T-Mobile? Have you tried in a different location, or another phone from the same spot?
I tried changing SIM, the APN, and I know I am not in a bad T-Mobile area as I receive service on my S2 in the same spot.
You can also try to reflash stock firmware.

How would I do that and would that void the warranty?

You have to get the tar file and flash it via Odin. I don't believe it will void the warranty.

I have a question. If u have note 2. Then your factory warranty should be valid and cover ur type of problem. Since u have a S2 then use it temporary and use ur Samsung warranty to send the phone over.
But I have another suggestion. Take ur phone to store and let them use another sim and see what happens. Otherwise just send ur phone. And if happen that u have tmobile warranty then u will send them just ur phone without battery cover + battery it self + all accessories that came with the phone. And tmobile will send a brand new device in sealed box
I really hope that I helped. Thats all I know.
Good luck:beer:

Unlocking?

If I unlock my phone can my company know I'm using a s3?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Sorry, maybe its just me today, but the question just doesn't make sense to me.
Unlocking simply lets you use the phone on another carriers network. How or why would your company care what model your cell is?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Because when it is not unlocked some companies require you or automatically puts u into a data plan.
So my question -
Can your company detect what phone you are using if it is unlocked?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
When you say "your company" do you mean your carrier or cellular provider, such as T-Mobile or AT&T?
If that's what you mean then yes, they are usually able to tell what kind of phone you are using.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I don't think they'll make you get a data plan if you bring your own phone, and can't you cancel the data after a while?
