[Q] Rooting i747 on 4.1.2 on a Mac? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi all! I'm a new member, but I've been reading XDA for a couple of years now. I'm usually pretty decent at finding solutions to my own problems, but now I'm in need of a little help.
I recently had to unroot my i747 and restore back to stock firmware. That was about a month ago. Now I'm missing my CM10 and my stock Android goodness and I want to re-root. Unfortunately, none of the old methods I used work for me now. I think I've realized that the reason for this is that during my month away from CM and root-access, I foolishly OTA updated to 4.1.2. I'm also on a Mac, which I realize is yet another hurdle to jump.
I've looked and looked, and nothing I've come across seems to work. I've tried Motochopper and Casual Root but as far as I can tell, neither one supports 4.1.2 right now, and Casual's kind of buggy on Macs as it is.
Am I missing something obvious, or is this just a waiting game for the time being?
Thanks for reading!

If I were you I would just borrow a friends pc and root with chainfire auto root via odin....its the fastest and easiest in my opinion. I literally rooted my phone in my buddys truck the other day in less than a minute. Like you updated to 4.1.2 and had to re root.

Should I wait to root?

Should I wait to root the Glide? Seeing as an ICS update has been confirmed for god knows when, it seems appropriate since there might be issues getting CWMR to work with ICS because of the way it boots?

I'm planning on waiting myself. I like root but I can live without it
-sent from my insanely awesome captivate glide-
I was pondering over the same question, I'll have to root sooner or later, so I can change bands to 2G to save on battery life.
I am in the same boot as well. Since I heard many people have had issues from gingerbread build 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 when they had clockwork mod and root. I am trying to wait for the update to ICS before toying with any of those. Just 1 question if I do use any of the many great roms (by the way thankyou everyone for their hard work) will this effect my Wireless? Just wondering as I could not live without my phone being down and I would hate it not working as a phone and lose the data if I changed the rom. Is there any chance on this happening?
Altough the number of positive aspects of rooting the Glide are just a few right now
I chose to do it.
I mean Busybox comes quite often in handy and I'm used to take Screenshots on my device aswell.
But before I rooted it I made a Nandroid backup of my unrooted AT&T rom, so I can switch easily back to unrooted stock firmware.
Nandroid always seems to be the way to go. The benefits of the root are greater and we can always restore. Hopefully one of the many great developers will come out with a rooted ICS rom shortly afterwards.

Is there a simple root only that doesnt change ANYTHING else?

Is there a simple Root for the AT&T S3 that ONLY roots the phone, changes not a damn thing, will not lose apps installed already, not lose ANY function at all, and I mean nothing what so ever? Too many things I see says, Root works fine, but you might lose this or that even if its an obscure function...I want to leave at least for now my phone fully stock but rooted with a 99.9% chance of nothing going wrong or changed , like a 1 click.... Heh am I asking for too much?
What you are looking for is out there, however its not exactly 1 click. Also, there is always a risk when rooting your phone so keep that in mind. I would suggest reading as much as you can before jumping into anything. There are a lot of very helpful threads here, you just have to invest the time. Trust me, its better to feel confident when working on our phones, rather than brick a $600 phone! Good luck to you!

You can easily root without deleting anything. mrRobinson put together a nice guide that will grant root access without tripping your flash counter. However, even if you do trip the counter, there is now a way to reset it.

Ok thx, I was half joking with the 1 click, but would be nice , heh...
For a short bit I had a loaner Captivate so I put 2-3 different ROMs on there (Serenity was my fav) and messed with it a bit, but I had little fear as if I killed it , it was not a big deal, but this is the only Android experience I have, was rocking a iphone 3gs before the S3...
So do you think the mrrobinson method is the best/easiest or get the toolkit and use that for what Im trying to do right now? Im happy with how it is and Im sure I will mess with ROMs once the newness wears off, but for now just want to root to put Titanium on there and maybe get Google Wallet working as well.

yes i think it'd be the easiest for you and won't touch anything you've setup. Just flash the file in ODIN and you're set.

Odin- / heimdall-free root
I just wanted to share that Noxious Ninja's Verizon Odin-Less method worked perfectly well on my AT&T phone. I have a Mac and Heimdall doesn't yet work on the SGS3, and I was having trouble getting my hands on a PC. This method required no flashing of any kind (although the first thing I did after getting root was flash CWM recovery and CyanogenMod.) Just needed to input the various shell commands by hand because obviously the .bat file didn't run on OS X.

Not currently rooted running 4.1.2 should i wait to root?

Hey guys and girls just joined the site been looking around and reading alot of interesting things.
Like the title says im running 4.1.2 but i hear there might be a release of 4.2 coming the 20th?
I'm wanting to root my phone and join the club. I'm pretty much a newb when it come to this I want to make sure i do everything right when i start the process i'm a truck driver so my phone is a important part of my day to day activity and cant end up bricking my phone.
Ive been looking at youtube vids and reading comments some people having problems and some doing just fine.
Could someone recommend a link one with a video to show the process that would be great, should i wait for a over the air update to 4.2
Sprint won't be going to 4.2 . They are bypassing and the upcoming update will be 4.3. I would wate until the update comes out before you root. That way the roms and rooters will be able to be written and hou can have all the perks of an official 4.3
Sent from my Sprint Galaxy Note II on Tapatalk Pro.
I disagree. I would root now. It's possible with any OTA update, it could secure the root exploit. And nothing has been really said when any update is coming. Could be a couple weeks or a couple months.
And if you're rooted already, you'll only need to wait a day or two before someone uploads a rooted version of the update to flash.
Plus, if you fubar something, it's likely already been done and you'll be able to find a fix.
And if you do depend on your phone, it's hard to say what things may get borked with the update. So by waiting those few days for the updated rom, you'll find out what is not working and can decide if updating is right for you. Sometimes updates will bork things like GPS.
Personally, I don't see anything you really gain by waiting.

Ditto on rooting before an update. Get root before the Knox **** hits your phone and your warranty is permanently b0rked. Once 4.3 and Knox is on your phone, if you ever root there's chance in hell of ever claiming on your warranty. More likely than not.

What happened with the link being removed for the toolkit download? I watched the video on post #4 seems to be easiest way to do this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956180
Is this still a good option for rooting the phone?
Any ideas?
Just got my 4.1.2 note today. Within an hour after bringing it home I found the old toolkit I rooted with my other note before I traded it. Why wait

Not wanting to wait just want an instruction how to I'm a trucker with a lap top and never have Wi-Fi unless I'm at McDonald's so I don't get to check and download what I'm needing to.

Unrooting my device to update properly

Hi guys, I have got a rooted galaxy note 2, I only really used the root to play games through emulators with my ps3 controller. However I don't tend to do this at all anymore, and thought I might as well Unroot and get the new update, as mine is quite outdated (last time I updated my phone it completely messed up, and took almost a week to fix, so have been scared to do it since). I was wondering if there are any risks involved when Unrooting to then upgrade the regular way via wifi through the phone? Or what steps should I take to make sure everything will be alright and nothing will be lost. Thanks a lot!
Kind regards. Kes

may be u can refer to here : how to unroos note 2

Help needed to upgrade a Note 2 that was lost for 2 years.

I bought an unlocked Note 2 in the summer of 2013.
I happily used it until Christmas when it 'disappeared' in our house. My toddler daughter had hidden it somewhere.
Despite turning the house upside down it was never found and I reluctantly moved backwards to older phones I already had.
Nearly 2 years later and a builder found it hidden away in our spare room.
I know have my phone back which has been in hibernation for 18 months. It is running 4.4.1 and my question is this.
Despite it now being old I would like to upgrade the firmware to the best I can for the device without it slowing down. Please can someone recommend an upgrade and where I can find it. Phone is not rooted so will I have to do this?
Thanks in advance for your time.
There is no 4.4.1 for the note?

Good news that you found your phone. Probably your firmware is 4.1.1 and not 4.4.1 because 4.4.1 not exist and also you have to update this firmware immediately because of sds bug. If you don't know about it Google it. There are plenty of roms at forum and also plenty of instructions how to flash a custom rom and also how to update at latest official if you don't prefer custom.

Thanks for your reply Vagsvag. Just checked and it's running 4.4.2. I think it automatically upgraded something when I turned it on and logged in for the first time (sorry I'm not very savvy). In your opinion will this suffice or is there a newer platform I can safely download. I did a cursory bit of research on Google and it looks like 'Android L' is the last one offered for the Note 2, but I couldn't see if it was ever confirmed. I'll do some more research on here. I'd rather not load up a custom rom as when I did that to my last phone (S2 and the Lite'ning Rom) the phone became very glitchy. Perhaps things have improved in the last 5 years.

4.4.2 is the latest official, for newer version of Android you must go to custom rom, cm or aosp, there are also some roms transfered from official s3 firmware android version 4.4.4. My opinion is if you are ok with speed, response etc stay with this only root it to remove junk apps and block the ads. Now if you want something little bit more fresh you can try cm base, one of the more stable is Ivan_Meler's cm 12.1 at original android forum.

Thank you for all your help. I've rooted the phone which seems to make everything quicker. I'll stick with 4.4.2 for now but will have a look at CM12.1 at some point.
Ivan Meler CM 12.1, Best ROM so far. Whenever you plan to get in the CUSTOM ROM Zone !!!
