So you have rooted your Samsung Android phone flashed ROMs and mods that bricked your phone? You can unbrick it with a utility called ODIN but everybody knows that it is very messy to use Odin. We will not be touching Odin now. We don't even have to download the megabyte consuming firmware packages. This time Samsung users can unbrick a soft brick on their phone at just a click and this method is working and also very safe. Full thanks to XDA member AdamOutler and his thread forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15330252
Requirements:
1. A bricked Samsung Android phone (ofcourse)
2. A PC using Linux, Windows or Mac OSX with Java and Samsung USB drivers installed
3. A working USB data cable to connect to PC
4. Most important, Commensense and brain : )
Steps to Do (Instructions)-
I am supposing that you have already Samsung USB drivers installed. If not, download them here 4shared.com/file/UKUCQTOS/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_.html. Do restart (cold boot) your PC after installing drivers.
1. Make sure that you have latest version of JAVA installed in your PC. To check if it is installed or to download and install, refer java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
2. Download One Click Unbrick Tool from heimdall-one-click.googlecode.com/files/OneClick.jar to your desktop or in any folder.
3. Connect your phone to your PC using USB.
4. Turn on Odin mode or Download mode on your phone. You still do not need Odin. If you cannot get to Odin mode (vol down+home+power key) it means that either your battery is low than 10% or your phone is hard bricked. Try charging phone for 30 minutes first. If you still cant get to DL mode, use USB jig to get into DL mode (available on eBay for just Rs 100, you can make your own too).
5. For Linux and Mac OSX, double click on the downloaded file OneClick.jar and click on "Unsoft Brick" button and wait for the device to reboot by its own.
For Windows OS, right after step 4, goto the app folder and right click OneClickLoader.exe and choose to Run As Administrator. It is important to run it as administrator on Windows. Click on "Unsoft Brick" button and wait for the device to reboot by its own.
I tried it on my Samsung Galaxy Y, Samsung Galaxy TAB and Samsung Galaxy Grand and it seem to be working like a charm as it fixed its soft brick immediately. Try it
FAQ #1: It is not detecting my phone
---------- What? Are Samsung USB drivers installed correcting in local disk C:\ drive (C:\SAMSUNG\USBDrivers). If yes, uninstall those drivers> reboot> install again> reboot your PC and phone both. If it still does not detect, try another USB port of your computer. Also make sure that you are running this app as an administrator with all priviliges and your USB is working. If Kies, ADB or any other software that communicates with your phone except One Click Unbrick Tool is started, turn them off too via Task Manager. NOT WORKED? Try goto Device Manager (in One Click Unbrick Tool, there is an option for this) and select device as SAMSUNG COMPOSITE DEVICE.
FAQ #2: I get error USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED when I plugged in my device with my USB.
-------- Oh!! I think that your USB cable is malfunctioning. I had the same error (even with GT-S5360 USB). I used LG USB and it did fix that error. If still it gives error, make sure that the drivers are installed correctly (see FAQ #1) and your PC is not in saving mode
FAQ #3: Have I to downliad firmware packages or files too?
-------- No, One Click Unbrick Tool is enough! You do not need any firmware packages.
FAQ #4: What about its working?
-------- It is based on Odin, but not Odin!

hey,...
i am trying to root my tmobile galaxy S2 and i am in downloading mode...put recovery.tar file in PDA section and when i hit start...nothing happens and after a while i get failed notice and says " Can't open the serial(COM) port." what am i doing wrong.
Did you install the usb drivers first? If not here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?6onrjbyd46j4lhj
that could be the only reason i can think of that odin isn't detecting phone. Also try a different usb port on the computer, and if that doesn't work try a different cable.
uninstall Kies if u have ut because the drivers stick i did and now it works lol

I too was having "Can't open the Serial COM". Kies was interfering.
Go into Kies, Tools -> Preferences, unselect "Run Samsung Kies automatically when a device is connected", save the change, close out of Kies, and then restart ODIN 3. Try flashing now.
reinstall drivers with KIES. go to troubleshoot and then you should be good to go after. also check the cable too..

I had the same problem and I fixed it by exiting from Kies software. You might get this new error "Complete(Write) operation failed". Then all you should do is just pulling your battery out and restarting odin and phone. I disables the firewall too, but I don't think the problem was firewall. Anyway mine is working well and I did it.
Hi, I'm also having the same problem. The 'Charging paused...' message kept popping up so I tried to flash a different official rom via odin (I was on official ICS). Unfortunately the flash failed and now when I try to turn on the phone the 'Firmware upgrade encountered an isuue......' message comes up. I tried connenting to kies also but can not to do so. I have hope as i can get into download mode but can't flash a rom. I got halfway once then suddenly it failed again. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Thank You.

The phone needs to be in download mode for Odin. And kies shouldn't be running on your PC. Go to task manager and kill any kies processes.
Download mode on the phone as I remember is power button and volume down.
?
If anyone is using Odin to flash 4.1.2, I found either Odin 3.04 or to be the only ones that worked for me.

Try different Odin versions perhaps. Uninstall Samsung drivers and install the newest kies again to reinstall them. Don't need to uninstall kies , just be sure all its processes are killed in your PC task manager.
There's nothing you can do until your phone and Odin are communicating. Try another cable, try another USB port on your computer. Last, try another computer.

Try everything I suggested. Otherwise, I'm out of ideas unfortunately.
I'm curious, what does your phone show as in device manager in pc when connected? Or is it not being seen at all?
And Y Duos? You know this is the Tmobile S2 section, right? ?
Lots of Y Duos bricked talk here as well as other links in this thread to review.

my phone seems to be unrootable. I have tried everything, but I always get a write fail message after hanging at "Setup Connection" in Odin for a few minutes. My phone is recognized by my computer, I am able to drag and drop files to it. When plugged into Odin I am able to see the COM message. My phone does seem to have a hard time connecting to Kies, I believe it only connected to the software once.
Any solutions anyone?
If you're using ODIN, then uninstall Kies. It interferes with ODIN.
Also try switching cables, USB ports, and computers if possible.

Yeah did everything you listed, except for the toolkit. One thing I am noticing when I have my phone in download mode and it is plugged into the computer it registers as MSM8960, which from my search on google seems to be a chipset.

One thing I would check is your USB mode may be set to debug. Look for the S3 dialer codes and find the one that changes the USB mode and switch it to PDA (I believe). If its on modem/debug or whatever else it may be the cause.
*EDIT: I think this may be why it shows up a MSM8960. I just tested my sprint S3 in odin mode and it shows up as "Samsung Mobile USB CDC Composite Device"
I would also suggest running the connection troubleshooter in KIES which re-installs the drivers. In my experiences KIES does not cause a conflict with ODIN (I've had both installed with no issues during my time with the S2 and S3).
Finally, reboot both the phone & PC, and try again. If it still fails swap out your USB cable.

Follow whatever guide your using for how to use Odin.
Ie: just put the md5 file where its says PDA..
Put your phone in download mode..
Pull battery.. Put back.. Hold vol.down home and power..
Then at prompt push vol.up.
Phone will show I'm download mode.
The file.I would push is twrp.
The 2.5.0.0 works well on most all I do.
Once you have your custom recovery to install
Zips your good to go..
Just push the recovery and reboot the phone back into
The recovery mode..you shouldnt get errors.. I would say
To make sure your using a newer version of Odin and if you've
Messed with drivers always reboot PC.!!
Volume up.. Home and power this time..
And Go to recovery and flash whatever rooted ROM you want.
I'm good on computer anatomy and the ones in the back are usually fast, they are directly on the mobo

I have done everything you listed. Here is a question for you. When your phone is in download mode and you plug it in to the computer, what does it register as under Device & printers. I stated this before, but when I plug my phone in, it comes up as MSM8960. I did the S3 dialer code thing and all looks good, the phone is set to PDA and Qualcomm USB Settings are set to MTP+ADB (Thanks rocket321 for your assistance on that.)
Have you tried this method. It never fails comes with video and everything

I tried that tutorial, as a matter a fact that was the first one I used. When I check what drivers are being installed I see "SAMSUNG Mobile USB CDC Composite Device" and "SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem #3" the #3 I am guessing is the USB port for which I am connected to (This number changes with every port when my device is connected to the computer). Does anyone get the same exact messages when they plug in their phone and drivers began to install? Odin Message below:

As everything seems to be going right up until the flash, I might suggest you try flashing a different file.
Try CF-Auto-Root from the 3rd post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963812
Make sure you unzip to the .tar.md5 file and try flashing that in the PDA slot in Odin.
If that works you will have stock recovery but rooted ROM. From there you can use Mobile Odin to flash a customer recovery assuming you would like to have CWM or TWRP.

So the Samsung drivers do install when you connect the phone to the PC? If that step is OK then have you tried a different USB port and a different USB cable? When Odin fails it is almost always a problem with the USB cable.
I have this same phone and I followed the QBKing77 video with no issues. It worked flawlessly but in the past Odin issues ended up being the USB cable.

Have you made sure that the drivers are installed as suggested above. Also I'm not sure if I mentioned this. But I've had similar weirdness from using a bad USB Cable.

if you dont use a wipe pack from my thread you need to wipe data/reset after flashing a firmware in stock recovery
also without a full explanation in understandable english I cant give you anymore support other than fully read the instructions on my firmware thread at the top of the dev section for 5360 and download and use a firmware with the word wipe in the filename

Hey guys, im new with this model.
A friend apply a OTA to this phone and now the phone dont boot, in odin the EMMC firm is [] (nothing in).
Odin cant load a rom to the phone now, im ****ed, not with PIT file. Stuck in setup conection or writting NAND followed by a huge fail.
Someone with a suggestion?
Thanks.
Reflash it with the same or older ROMs, better go for the older ones.
If you get this error then your PIT is damaged
<ID:0/009> There is no PIT partition.
Then you need to flash with the .pit file,
This should be done only if, it is that much essential.
1. Connect phone to PC and see it gets detected.
2. Click on the PIT button and browse for the .PIT file in the zip
3. Click on PDA and browse for the original firmware file (
4. Ensure that all three check boxes, i.e. Auto Re-boot, Re-Partition, F. Reset Time are selected (checked). Re-Partition shoul be selected only if u have selected PIT file
See This thread to download PIT file thanks to DMJoh
I tried with PIT, but Odin show me:
Writing NAND.
FAIL!
Without PIT odin stuck at "setup conection" message.
Downloading a old rom to try. But i think the emmc die.
Thanks.
1. Was USB Debugging enabled on your device?
2. You got the latest Samsung drivers installed on your pc?
3. Did you make sure Samsung kies is not running in the system tray?
4. Make sure any antivirus or firewalls are switched off.
1 . Phone dont boot.
2. Yeah i installed that stuff yesterday.
3.kies closed.
4.no antivirus on my pc

Hi,
Use diff USB cabel and Diff USB port and try again sometimes problem will with cable or port though it detects in PC probs will occur on flashing
I tried in two more pcs with diferent cables but nothing, sadly i think the phone is dead, maybe with a box.
So, originally my phone was ATT or Tmobile (I forget now), I flashed to U1 and stayed there for quite awhile. Then some months back I flashed to a Sprint U version. OTAs and everything worked. But Sprints version is missing some stuff that I came to love on the unlocked version.
I'm trying to go back to the U1 US unlocked (which is XAA region), and my boot loader is v7, and so is the U1 firmware I'm trying to flash with patched odin. I have USB Debugging enabled, removed the lockscreen and any sorts of locks.
My Sprint version is G965USQS7CSJ7, and the Unlocked I'm trying to go to is G965U1UEU7CSK1. I go into download mode/flash mode or what ever as usual, connect phone with the latest Samsung USB drivers installed with patched odin already open, its detected as 0:[COM3] in a cyan/light blue. I add the:
BL_G965U1UEU7CSK1
AP_G965U1UEU7CSK1
CP_G965U1UEU7CSK1
CSC_OMC_OYM_G965U1UEU7CSK1,
and after they all finish doing their checks, I start it, and It instantly stops.

Am I missing something?
Edit: I downloaded patched odin again, and the firmware. Still the same error.
Edit 2: I tried to reflash my current firmware as well. Same issue.
Edit 3: Reinstalled USB drivers and ADB. Still nothing.
Final Edit: Issue solved. It was an issue specific to Ryzen CPUs. Just do it via what ever Intel system you have.

If your stuck on setup connection on Odin some things to try assuming using windows
Use Odin 3.13.1 ( or modified Odin 3.13.1B )
If you have smart switch/Kies install, un-install it.
USB cable i'm assuming is a data cable.
USB port try plugging into USB 2 port.
Plug phone directly into PC not any hubs.
Use latest Samsung USB drivers.
Run Odin in administrator mode.
Boot into download mode then reboot back into download mode again.
Maybe turn off any anti-virus/firewall programs.
Maybe plug/unplug leads a few times
Try a different PC.
These are a few things to try ( and some you've already tried ) as failing at setup connection can be a common issue with some people and can vary with the PC.

Have unfortunately done all of those listed minus the different computer thing which I'm transferring files for now.. Also its Odin 3.13.1_3B. I looked around and there's a good chance its a current Ryzen CPU issue.
Edit: Did appear to be a Ryzen issue. It worked smoothly on an Intel laptop.

Glad it worked. It maybe with certain types of PC's out there. No issues on my HP laptop.
Ran into issues flashing XAA software on odin. Same problem, constantly failed on a Ryzen PC, tried it on an intel laptop and voila, it worked flawlessly. Thanks Reapersdeath for posting this solution.
