I'm having the exact same problem, anyone figure this one out?.
I had that exact same problem with the Asus Transformer 101.. It wouldn't power on unless it was connected to something else to draw power.. Connect it to the wall charger, PC via USB or even the dock and it turned on.
That was a known issue with the TF101. Must be something Asus does. I never bothered with a replacement. But you should be able to get one if you want.
Same problem with Nexus One
I have a Google Nexus One with the same issue, anyone figured out what is it???
Same issue here. Nexus 7 Wifi with PA.
Same problem
Hi guys,
Having the same exact problem. Any suggestions? Would be too much to try to wipe the device clean and start afresh.
This is a known problem for the nexus 7 (original and flo/deb). It has to do with the internal seating of the battery, li-ion battery technology in general, and possibly the internal battery cable. I had this issue, and resolved it with the info here:
https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/120143/Nexus+7+no+power-up,+just+screen+flicker
Read the "most helpful" and "chosen answer" by clicking the link to "answer".
Way better to open up the device than to be left with a brick, a $300 repair, or the need to replace the device. I originally thought my battery failed (possible too).

Hi Guys,
I got a brand new Galaxy Nexus, plugged the battery and tried to turn it on but it would not start. I connected the charger and got nothing either, nothing on the screen and no battery charge indicator.
Any ideas?

Got it to work by inserting the USB cable, then slowly putting the battery in.

If this phone is really "brand new" and this problem continues. I would strongly suggest you return it to where you bought it from as this may be a hardware defect.

I had a similar problem when I first received my Galaxy Nexus. The solution was to take the battery back out and wait 30 seconds. After putting the battery back in, it turned on without a problem.

I too experienced this with my play store nexus. After it wouldnt boot up for the first time, i figured it shipped with a dead battery. So i plugged in the usb charger and nothing happened, no charging icon or anything. I left it on the wall charger for 45 minutes even though nothing appeared on screen. I tried booting up again and still nothing. I pulled the battery and let it sit for ten minutes, plus i inserted the sim for the first time an voila, it finally booted. I dont know why the hell it did that but it sure did scare the **** out of me! I havnt had any issues since. *knocks on wood*

Hello,
My battery is not charging while the charger is connected !!!
the phone detect the charger but the battery won't charge :s
any idea ?
thank you
Try any other chargers?
If yes, and still doesn't work then I'm going with faulty charger port. Just got done setting up a refurb from VZW b/c my g/f's gnex had this issue.
The only other thing I can say to try is bending the tab/metal plate in the middle of the charging port up towards the glass a bit to center it more. May work.
i've tried 3 differents chargers and usb cables.it shows "charging" on lockscreen but the battery drains !
i'll try to bend the metal plate to center it more.hope it will work
thank you got556

I had this problem. The charging port (the thing in the middle of the port) on the phone was bent. Took a safety pin and moved it a bit.
This is the only thing that worked. Used different chargers and battery, nothing helped but this.

Can you get any kind of charge? I noticed last night that after I was at 100 percent for a while the phone shut off charging...is.that the issue, or no charge at all. If it's the first, the kernel may be shutting it down

This is a known Samsung hardware problem with GNex. The USB port's contact (in the center) is made from cheap, thin metal -- unpleasantly reminiscent of the Galaxy S cheap, thin metal GPS antenna; a total fail. It's really criminal that Samsung releases product like this, and moreover that they don't halt production and engineer the problem out before putting more lemons out there.
The recommended solution -- bending the contact into alignment -- worked for me for about 5 seconds. Repeat 5 times, and then the phone simply wouldn't start up.
Your best solutions:
1. If it's under warranty, send it in for a fix
2. If it's not, search this forum for instructions on buying (ebay?) and replacing the USB port.
In either case, I'd worry about the problem re-occurring. I bought the very overpriced desk dock so that I can charge using the pogo pins. However, in my car I still need to use the USB cable ... very carefully.
I wouldn't ordinarily get phone insurance, but in this case I'm considering it. Not sure if it would be a covered incident. Does anyone know of a well-priced third-party insurance company that actually provides the coverage that one expects?
Hi there.
Has anyone managed to fix this issue?
My phone has the same problem. When I try to charge it, battery icon changes to charging animation, but battery percentage will not go up. In settings, status of battery is "discharging". Also, battery settings page does not show any application using battery other than "Android OS" and "Screen" which i find strange - usually at least 10 apps are shown on this page.
Have tried different wall chargers and USB cables, have tried getting the pin in the micro-USB port to the middle. still no help.
On the latest version of JBSourcery ROM, if that helps.
Thanks.
battery calibration?
this may be the case if you recently flashed a new ROM and your battery is not properly calibrated yet. you may try to let the battery completely discharge and charge again (of course, this only works, if it is indeed not a hardware issue also, use only wall chargers)... repeat that a few times and your battery should be calibrated again... had this problem a few times after flashing a new ROM, but that fixed it.
Hello Everyone,
I am a noob on XDA, Please correct me if i have posted in the wrong forum. I bought a new nexus 7 16gb, for some reason when the battery is around 25-30% the tablet turns off itself. Its not shutdown its like pulling the battery of a phone thats on. The only way to start it is by connecting the charger.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
I am on the stock rom NOT rooted
Thanks

Have you charged the device to 100% yet? I would do that, leave it charging for an hour after it shows 100% then use it till it dies. Rinse and repeat.

Yes I have charged it 100% multiple times, The only difference is i use a sammy charger that outputs 0.7 amps once in a while. I dont suspect the charging thing to do this.
Are you getting normal use out of a charge? How much screen time in one charge?

Like Highfigh suggested check how long you can run on a full charge. If you get some good hours in then maybe the battery % is not reporting back properly. A reset/restore could possible resolve that issue.
I believe I am getting pretty good charge. I will try once again, I was thinking this might be something with stock rom and hence I posted it online. Thanks every one for the help

exactly the same story here. in my case it's not so easy to turn it on. it would seem like the device is completely discharged, even if it just showed some 40 % battery left. i have to wait several hours to even try to bring it back to recovery mode. very long press does nothing. it happened couple of times already. very annoying with such seemingly superb tablet. i'm not living in the us of a, so no quick replacement for me
That's bad I can turn on mine in a few minutes. Again mine happens very rarely. I also get an excellent battery life. How long does yours go on a charge.
I would also like to know if there is any kind of Logs that we can look at. It's getting irritating, did you try rooting your device to see if that might fix the problem.

Try charging your battery separately, independently with dedicated chargers.

Try a different cord, if the issue still stands, you may want to replace that USB port.
Hi Folks, I have a problem with my Huawei Ascend P1. I tried to change the internal battery but I think while trying that, I might damage the phone. After I did that. I wont start up unless I plug it in, it only boots up to the Huawei Screen, vibrates and the turns off.
The funny part is it even boots up in that way without a battery (always plugged in).
The question is the following, what do you think is the problem here? Something got disconnected? May I have broken the battery flex or maybe the power button flex?
Thank you in advance
You probably have something disconnected, take out the battery and examine the area for any small wires and slots. This is usually the case, because the device stills boots when plugged in.
