So I took the advice given in my previous thread and formatted my 64gb ADATA microSD card to fat32, and that allowed me to copy all of my music files directly through my laptop with an adapter with no problem. However, when I try to copy files from the laptop to the card through a USB connection to my phone, it won't work. Any thoughts on how to get it to work? Thanks!

Is it a hardware or software problem? I had a problem with my USB on my Infuse. I found an app, Software Data Cable. It allowed me to go from PC to phone w/o a cable.
I would imagine that it's some kind of a software problem, since the SD card itself works fine but once it's mixed with the S3 it starts to act up

Just got mine Sandisk SDXC 64GB card and it come with exFat. I can transfer large file over 4GB with SDCard adapter plugged in computer, but can't with phone connected to computer and why is it that way?
Anyone have same problem and transfer larger file then 4GB doesn't work while connect with the phone?
Have not got a note 2 yet, but I believe it has got to do with the file format of your SDCARD. FAT32 only accepts max 4GB per file.

Wish its that simple.
Read again what i wrote: "I can transfer large file over 4GB with SDCard adapter plugged in computer, but can't with phone connected to computer "
If the card is in fat32 and it wont transfer files larger then 4GB with the SD Card adapter, right?
Im not alone with this problem, alot others have same problem and no one know the reason. Why it cant larger files when plug in the phone with USB cable, but it works over Wifi and some apps. But with much slower speed if using wifi.
Format the card in a Win 7 pc as exfat, i believe the note will read exfat and that handles files of over 4gb. Other than that you need to root and use an NTFS mount app.

Perhaps it's some sort of MTP limitation then.
Wouldn't the fastest way be to use a card reader?

I can confirm exactly same observation on my new Note 2. I am using SanDisk UHS-1 64GB and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. The card is formatted to exFAT (confirmed in Windows) and I can copy 8GB file to it, using cheap SD card <--> USB adapter. When I put the card into Note 2 and connect the phone to Windows, it will pop up as GT-7100 with "Card" (external SD card) and "Phone" (internal storage).
Once I try to copy the same file to "Card" (using Windows Explorer), the system first asks if I am sure (because the format may not be supported by phone) and then quits with error message saying the file size is not supported (and nothing is written to the "Card" filesystem).
It seems like some limitation on MTP (or whatever it is), but I am confused, because from other threads I understood, there should not be any limitation on MTP regarding the file size.
It seems the solution could be direct access to the card via USB mass storage protocol, but it is unfortunately not available too.
Anyone knows if it is just a glitch, or new "feature" in JB?
Hi everyone,
I read that the process of upgrading to a new micro SD only involved a simple copy and paste from the old card. I got a SanDisk Ultra 32 GB MicroSDHC (SDSDQUA-032G-U46A) and after multiple tries I cannot get my Xperia Play to properly read the data from the old card once it's on the new card. I've tried formatting the card with the phone, with the computer, and nothing improves (I used FAT32 as the format). The closest I got was the app icons showing up properly but the apps force closing once I started them.
What can I do? Is there a tool that will allow me to transfer everything without screwing up path files in the process?
Anyone?

check the sd card if its fulty(yes there is sd cards that fulty from the shop).
the best way to do it is put the sd card to adapter (sd card to usb) and connect it to the pc.if its not working.take it to the shop you buyed and replace it.
Is the sdcard legit? Did you buy your sdcard from reliable source more info would be nice. Is your sdcard formatted to FAT 32?
Same issue here
Formatted on computer to FAT32. Copied files over via computer, stick the new card in. Phone lags and freezes, apps are "not installed", and when I try to format via the Play, the phone just freezes.
Card is legit, bought from Best Buy, passed all the tests, works just fine using a an adapter (usb and regular sd).

I bought it from Amazon, from a certified seller. Yes, it is formatted to FAT32.
i´ve bought a 64 gb dandisk microsdXC and doesnt work allright.
i have inserted in the xplay and works great, but when i connect it to the pc by usb cable massive storage the pc says that doesnt recognize the device, or it recognized it but i start moving files and error appears. then i disconnect it from the pc and the XPlay sais the card is empty and i have to restart it an again recognizes it.
If i use the micro sd to sd adaptor and insert it in the laptop card reader, it works great but if i use a microsd to usb adaptor the laptop says i have to formatt the card.
i dont know what is happening.
somebody please help!!!!!
i dont what causes that but using airdroid will solve youre probleme
i have this probelem with my 8gb sd card too
I don't think the phone properly supports 64gb, only up to a max of 32gb microSD cards. That's probably your problem there.

I use 64Gb SandDisk Class 10 microsdXC card that work without problems. Sounds like you need to format your SD Card to work properly. Be sure to BackUp/Save all your Data First and then Format the SD Card.
Formatting Instructions can be found here.

ease us partition master and fat32
Hey everyone,
I know we all have our opinions on MTP, some like and some others don't.
As a Windows and Mac user, I think it is horribly implemented on our HTC One M8s. Large MKV and Flac files do not copy correctly (completely) to my phone's external micro sd card that is formatted with exFAT, and it's terribly slow. The problem also occurs with normal micro sd cards.
Is there any way to use a mod/application or system setting that removes all aspects of HTC Sync and allows me to mount my external SD card as just normal USB storage? I have 64 GB on my micro SD Card but cannot use it because I cannot copy over large files correctly because of this issue, and it's extremely frustrating.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Unfortunately, that's not really a solution. Android File Transfer is just an app that provides a connection between the phone and the computer. Additionally, it cannot transfer files over 4GB in size, which is absolutely ridiculous. I want a way to directly mount my SD card on the computer, so it is seen directly as an SD card in Finder. I don't care about accessing the internal memory.
What is the point of having an external SD card slot if you can't really use it properly? I'd rather not have to boot into windows to make this work.

And unfortunately, that is the only way wired to OSX ... Google changed the way storage is accessed (around ICS I believe) ... so MTP is the only protocol available ... even in Windows, the drives connect via MTP and not like a USB drive .... Try doing multiple actions like copy/paste simultaneously on Windows and you wont be able to

Look, that makes sense, but it's ridiculous I need to buy a peripheral to use the external SD card on my phone. USB devices have been able to easily and quickly interface with computers since the 90s, it's absurd that I have to do that in order to do what I want.
And how reliable is that tray? How long before it doesn't go in properly because I have taken it out and put it in so many times?
I'm in the same boat. I use OSX as my primary OS and I'm just having to use AirDroid to transfer over files for now.
In http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54035979 I may provide a partial solution; depending on your exact need. Look for the post I sent a few minutes ago. More to come in the next days; I will test other apps, and report.
My existing SD card is running out of capacity, so im trying to insert a 64Gb card into the phone. When trying to clone the this card in my laptop, i keep getting the message to format the card. Which obviously i don't want to do. The card works fine in the phone so i don't suspect a faulty card. If i plug the phone into the laptop the card is visible, and i can copy the files, and transfer them to my 64Gb card but then this is not usable on the phone. What is the procedure for upgrading the SD card in the Lenovo P2.
My observations lead me to believe that the formatting of the P2 is not compatible with windows 10.
any help much appreciated.
Regards
John M
Copy the files from the previous SD card to your computer by using the USB cable to connect the phone. Then do the same to copy to the new card.
It sounds like your SD card is formatted as internal memory rather than portable.
When you put in your new SD it will ask how you want to use it. Choose portable and copy your files over.
