Keyboard disappears. Cursor jumps around - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

I'm using thumb keyboard on my n5110, stock android 4.1.2. Sometimes while typing the keyboard disappears. Other times the cursor jumps around on the page instead. Sometimes both.
The weird thing is that this is my 2nd Note 8 and it never happened on the first one. I exchanged it and the second Note is perfect in every way except this keyboard issue. Could it be a hardware issue? I'm guessing no but it's weird that it never happened on the first device.
I've switched to SwiftKey now and to see if it happens with other keyboards. It happens infrequent enough that I'll have to use it for a while to be sure.

Can you tell me what you were doing? I own thumbs keyboard and I can try to recreate it if you want. Ive happily switched to SwiftKey but I do appreciate the features of thar keyboard.

bug on the onscreen keyboard

Hi. i seem to have a bug on the onscreen keyboard. basicaly, whenever i press a key no animation is applied as if pressing a real key on a keyboard ie see the specific key pressed down.
It doesnt seem to work no matter what screen or app i am running. However, it does operate fine when i do the keyboard tutorial?
anyone having issues with this?
edit: seems to work fine when i switch the keyboard into numeracy mode
Another edit: fixed the issue by changing the keyboard layout completeley via the settings and back to full qwerty .
Not really linked to your problem, but I noticed a strange behaviour when setting up Copilot on my Desire today. Basically no matter what i typed, it automatically retyped some letters back again. Trying backspace too added the last letter again and then subsequently deleted it. I wanted to type say [email protected] and it would type [email protected]@y... It reminded me of similar keyboard issues on the Nexus One. Thankfully I did not notice the same issue when i typed in landscape mode.

I had exactly the same problem, didn't think of trying it in Landscape mode mind you, but it was only on the user name field and not the password field in CoPilot.
talking about the touchscreen, anyone so far has experienced the mis-registering of the touch? feedback will be very appreciated. am a former Nexus one user and that bug haunted me a lot..

My screen is perfect. Absolutely love this phone. Very responsive, word prediction is sublime and I haven't had a single slowdown or crash. Check out my YouTube videos (misterleoni)

[Q] Keyboard Lag?

Today my phone started to lag while I type text messages. I tend to type fast, and if the keyboard starts to lag and I continue to type fast the keyboard will lock up, then a second later it will type all the keys I just pressed.
I have vibration feedback turned on, I have not downloaded or installed anything lately related to my keyboard, or any input, hell I dont even thing I downloaded or updated anything in the past day or so.
I am on froyo, and and on telus. HTC's seem to just love to lag when using keyboards... My last 2 phones (s720 and touch pro) both lagged like hell when using the keyboard.
Anyhow, anyone having this same problem, with a 1 ghz processor I should have no troubles pressing a couple buttons... :S (and havent had any trouble up until today)
I dont want to turn on vibration, I was typing on an iPhone the other day and it felt real weird to type without vibration.
I've also cleared out a bunch of texts, and rebooted the phone, neither helped.
How many texts are loaded on the screen ?

I woke up today and it seems to have gone away..
What the hell :S
My keyboard sometimes lags, but only if replying to a a long thread on the digital spy forums using the phone in portrait mode. Holding the phone on its side foxes this for me.

I also noticed this
If you replay on a long mal with many intermediate stops (RE:s and FW:s), the text you type has to be inserted before the rest of that long conversation and it indeed reacts slower.

Cursor Jumping In Text Box!

Trying to isolate this. I don't know where it came from.
It's survived multiple versions of AOKP even with full wipes.
When entering text, such a sad typing this, in any box including sms, if I try to move the cursor to correct some text the cursor will jump around and disappear. Somewhere a word or part of a word will be underlined.
I cannot control where that ends up.
It happens in all boxes. In all browsers. With different keyboards.
Does anyone else have this seriously annoying issue or an idea of what it is?
I get this sometimes, but only when using SwiftKey 3 beta.
When it starts doing it, I just pull down the notification Window and select input method, then choose android keyboard... It stops and I switch back when I'm done with the offending app (usually chrome beta).

When I 1st noticed it I was using swift key 3 beta and chrome.
I don't think its a coincidence.
But it now happens even with the stock keyboard and opera, or in SMS. Just not as often.
What ROM are you using?
I get this when trying to type a long message into a text field in the browser. Its really obnoxious.

I'm using BAMF Paradigm... whatever the latest is.
I get this only in web browser text boxes, and only with large amounts of text. Its always done it since 4.0.1.
But SMS, tapatalk, Gmail, none of those have the issue. Ever.
stock 4.04 rooted. i get this w/ swiftkey 2 n 3 beta
Why don't you just move the cursor with the volume keys?

Cause I'm odd. I used AOKP and Apex but have the operation pretty much factory.
That feature bugs me.
I froze swift key and have not had the issue at all since.
I think we can call it.
Let's file the bug reports!

newest swype beta lag?

just wondering if anyone else has been using the latest swype beta and if so are you having the same issue as me to where im stuck waiting a good 5-15 seconds for the keyboard to pop up after tapping in the input text box? it started last week and hasnt gotten better yet, its so irritating, i feel like im back on my original G1.
same here! happens very randomly but is really frustrating when it happens

same here ... it seems to happen the first time I attempt to type after a reboot.. it seems to be loading, which means it did not load on boot even tho it is the default keyboard.. weird
after that first request for keyboard after boot.. it comes up normally, in 0.01-3 seconds based on current memory+ cpu load

SwiftKey not working well on 2014 Note 10.1

I'm experiencing a lot of problems with the SwiftKey App lately on my Note 10.1. Even though I switched most functions off, only auto-caps at start of new line is on, I get random inserted digits or even random auto-completion (which is very annoying I can tell you) . Anyone else using SwiftKey who experienced problems on the new Note 10.1?
It also can be very difficult to start a new line because it writes the 2nd, 3rd etc. letter on top of each other.
Edit: had to remove typos and random characters 3 times in the first alinea alone.

Am doing so as we speak type. Nope, still buggy (same bugs).
I must be using the iPad too often because I find I'm unable to select words and then, afterwards, apply strike.
Edit: It also inserts spaces after it erroneously inserted "[ strike][ /strike]" (without the spaces) at the start of the post, in stead of around "speak", making me have to edit "[ QUOTE=tonytownsend" afterwards... Hopefully most of this is solvable in future.
This is just a guess, but could it be the touchscreen instead of SwiftKey?
Both my first and (after I returned it) second Note (which I purchased from another seller) have very annoying touchscreen issues.
I didn't notice it at first because the problem doesn't occur that often if you use the tablet with only one or two fingers. But then I started taking notes at the university and I noticed that I couldn't use the zoom gesture directly after I had put a part of my hand on the screen. It just stopped all of a sudden or it was very jumpy and hard to control.
It became so annoying that I installed YAMTT and checked if anything was wrong with the touchscreen. And indeed, most of the time when I put my hand on the screen as if I was writing or drawing, the screen started to behave strangely afterwards.
I found a method to reproduce the problem all the time. It might be worth checking:
- Start YAMTT in "Touch tester" mode
- Put your whole hand on the screen for around two seconds, then lift it
- If there are some touch indicators still shown, ignore them and just proceed
- Put five fingers on the screen and wait for a few seconds without moving them
- If the touch indicators suddenly disappear, you have the same touchscreen issues

Both my first and (after I returned it) second Note (which I purchased from another seller) have very annoying multi-touch issues.

I sure hope not. I started a whole topic on the Note 3 forum because I discovered it had a multitouch problem. Haven't been able to produce that type of multitouch issue on any of my other gear besides a Nexus 7. Will check with your method to see what it gives.
I checked the videos in your thread and the behavior is indeed very similar to what I got:
(In the video I haven't used the method described above yet, I discovered it just today)
I discovered that my fingers got remembered (stayed) on the screen if I left 5 of them on the screen. Happened only ones though. Then I tried puting my whole hand on it for a few seconds and then the multitouch algorithm went bananas. Tried with different Multi-touch app too. I think this is a software issue, from the looks of it.
SwiftKey has been giving me problems on my 2014 Note 10.1 from day 1, but they had become 10 times worse today. I just rebooted my Note and it now behaves as normal (still somewhat buggy SwiftKey, like before). I think there are some issues in the Multitouch driver which can be triggered by the "whole hand" method described above, and possibly by other means. My MT driver had already become unstable, hence I could reproduce a defect (finger touches remaining on the screen) without the "whole hand" thing.

Kizune, I included your video in a topic about this Multi-touch issue, I hope you don't mind.
Of course it's okay. Let's just hope that Samsung will fix the problem ASAP, it annoys the hell out of me.
I found the newest beta of Swiftkey to be buggy on the Note 1014 so I removed it and went back to Swype.
Too bad as I was enjoying the split keyboard mode.

I will very probably be doing the same. Thanks for getting back on topic.
I installed SwiftKey for tablets, not the phone version. Absolutely no problems typing for me on my note.

I use the same (Tablet) version. Possibly it is caused by a combination of settings. I have most (aiding) options switched off. If I find the time I will experiment.
Try "Touchpal"..it's similar to Swiftkey.. it's free and has plenty of thenes. I actually like it better

Newest SwiftKey is running perfectly for me on the Note 2014. It's so nice to be able to have a compact keyboard you can undock and move from any part of the screen to another. So convenient for applications. Highly recommended, please try it if you haven't
