If I'm sure ...
Use the phone normally but not long after (about 20 seconds) reboots itself, that is the error.

I am a newbie in this rom flashing land.
I managed to root my Desire this morning using unrevoked 3 method. It was successful. I then installed Rom Manager (free) from Market and tried to make a backup. It ran smoothly until the phone rebooted. The reboot looped at HTC logo.
After searching around, I go to Recovery and restore the newly backup image and the phone went back online. I thought I had bricked my Desire already. .
I have the following questions, please enlighten me:
1) What might cause the shocking loop?
2) In the unrevoked 3 program, I notice that the "Disable Security" was checked when I managed to root the Desire. Does that mean I have S-OFFed the Desire as well in the process? If it is still S-ON, how can I tell and if I download a ROM and try to flash it (I still don't know how), will there be any undoable problems?
Thanks
1. Probably ROM Manager - use the flashed recovery - it works all the time.
2. Unrevoked3 does not S-OFF your phone, you need alpharev for that. To make it sure turn off your phone and reboot to bootlader (Holding VOL- and POWER keys). For the ROM part, check each ROM's thread for requirements to avoid problems.
Hi nqk.
I have only been looking into rooting for a couple of weeks and had the very same experience as yourself. (and the security off bit too). Bricked already!!
Before I had S-Off I tried both CM7 and oxygen, they both worked ok, but if your reason for rooting is the gain memory with the desire I would certainly say go down the alpharev road and use a new HBoot.
The stickies on the development section really do explain it well for us "noobs".
Currently I am running Oxygen 2.1.4, Alpharev oxygen r2 HBoot and S-Off running a 1GB ext4 partition.
Just so giddy with the amount of space available!!
I flashed new custom rom with s-on and stock hboot. Everything is fine so far.

few times when I have rooted using unrevoked3.21 and run a backup from Clockwork recovery 2.5.0.8 (?) it has stuck on the htc screen... not a great problem as I have usually flashed it straight after - but still annoying

I rooted my phone a couple of months ago (HTC Desire) running version 7 of Cyanogenmod and decided it was time to have a look around at other roms. So i downloaded LeeDroid on ROM Manager on my phone and selected all the additional extras and it downloaded and installed itself (or I thought it did). Then the phone rebooted and it ran through script about the phone making some weird R2D2 sound in the process, but it kept looping around, i left it for an hour and it was still going. So i removed the battery and tried again and it won't start now. If i boot it up, it boots up to the flashing Android screen and if i boot it into boodloader and try fast boot it does exactly the same. Any ideas?

which hboot are you using? make sure to use htboot which has enough space in /system partition for the ROM you are trying to flash. also check the md5 of the downloaded file with the one provided in the website.
providing more details will help people in the forum to guide you in right direction.
Hi
I recently purchased a second hand htc desire locked on Orange UK.
The phone seemed to be running fine (not 100% sure though) at the beginning. The first thing I did was to unlock the phone, by using the method posted on the giffgaff site.
Everything seemed to be running fine at the beginning, but after a while the phone started rebooting randomly. It escalated to the point to where it would not go past the HTC logo, and just went into a reboot circle. The only thing that helps in this situation is taking out the battery for a couple of minutes and than it would boot up.
I figured it was a software issue, so I tried installing a custom ROM. It took a while but I managed to ROOT the device and install the CyanogenMod 7 (latest). The installation was successful but unfortunately the reboot issue hasn't changed at all.
I would have wanted to reverse the unlocking procedure that I did at the beginning, but there's nothing about how to do it.
The other possible solution I found, is to do a RUU. I wasn't able to find a ROM made for Orange UK version, so I went with RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe figuring that that is the generic one for EU. The problem is that from what I can tell Cyanogen doesn't have HTC Sync mode for USB connectivity, and when I try to do it without it gives me an USB connection error. I checked and from what I can tell I have the drivers installed for it.
I'm stuck at this point so any help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S.: I also made a gold card for the phone but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with it.
-edit-
I also noticed that it tends to reboot especially when I try to enter recovery mode
-edit2-
In all fairness I never managed to access recovery mode from the HBOOT menu. It always took me to the HTC Logo, and then went into a reboot cycle. The way that I managed to access the Recovery mode was either through rom manager or direct recovery reboot from cyanogenmod
Have a look in bortak's troubleshooting guide and follow instruction which applies to your problem
Is it PVT1 model? Check hboot/fastboot screen

Hi,
The HTC Desire HD phone was hanging during boot (original RUU ROM). There was no luck to get the phone working again.
It was possible to get into the bootflash mode by holding the power en vol down button. I decided to upgrade the ROMto the latest version of Android. (after searching if it was supported).:cyclops:
First I upgrade the HBOOT to version 2.0.0.0029 to make rooting possible.
So far so good. Getting Root access en ready to go. (Security on)
First a upgrade for recovery flash to install recovery-CWM-5.8.3.1-Build6.
After doing this I installed the new rom (cm-10.1-20130322-UNOFFICIAL-ace) using CWM.:fingers-crossed:
This was going well. Booting the phone up and it was booting. But when displaying to enter the pin-code I discovered that the touchscreen was not working well. I can touch it but not the right numbers. It seems it is out of sync? I can’t unlock the phone.
It seems the up/down is working but left to right not.
Installed the rom again and with no luck. Then a downgrade to the original RUU ROM (RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed). The phone booted up but also the touchscreen was not working well. All the rooting was gone. So the RUU is orignal.
The did the upgrade again (HBOOT and the flash recovery).
Now I installed the ROM (cfx_ace-4.2.2-SR15) and GAPSS.
It is booting but the screen is still not working well. Did I do something wrong? Of is there a other kernel to resolved the touchscreen problem?
Mee to sir
Had the same on 4.* ROMs...
Then I had to reboot (put out battery), then it worked. Next Reboot the same nonworking touchscreen...
I'm now running Android Revolution HD (2.3.5, Sense 3.5) all works, no probs anymore
Hi all,
I'm a noob here. I don't have any experience in flashing roms. So any help is mostly welcome and I humbly thank you for it.
Let me tell you what Happened. I have my HTC One X which I have been using for about 2 years stock ROM, stock kernel, non-rooted.
So today I wanted to flash CM11 and went ahead and unlocked bootlader and rooted the phone. so far so good. Installed CWM 6.0.4.8 touch recovery as well.
Then I downloaded the CM11 M7 and copied CM11.zip and gaps.zip to phone and flashed the boot.img that comes in the CM11.zip with fast boot.
boot.img flash was successful and then I Moved into recovery and selected CM11.zip and confirmed installation. but all of a sudden it says installation aborted. (without any error messages)
So then I was kinda panicked and rebooted system using recovery. But the phone is stuck at HTC Quietly Brilliant logo!
And when I press the power button (kept pressing it for about 10 secs) it turns off the phone but after about 3 seconds the phone automatically turns it self on and goes to HTC logo and hangs it self.
I don't know what to do and any help is greatly appreciated. I can go into recovery and execute some fast boot commands but other than that the phone it self is useless at the moment. I can't keep it turned off and soon the battery gonna die.
And I have a mac, so Cant open RUUs and frankly I don't know what to do with a RUU now.
I have a nandroid backup before installing the CM and I restored it and tried to turn the phone on. But still no luck. still in the HTC logo.
please help me guys. And appreciate if you could guide me step by step as I'm new to this modding.

It Powered off the Device
Hi FaiselW,
Thanks a lot for the quick reply. You method did half of what I wanted.
It indeed powered down the phone. So battery will be saved until I get a method to get back the device into life.
Still If I turn on the phone, the phone boots up and goes to HTC Quietly Brilliant logo and hangs there. So if you have any idea how to fix this issue, Greatly appreciate your help.
Anyways Thank you for the help so far.
No problem. When you restore the nandroid backup just flash stock kernel and you should be fine.

Backup fails
Thanks for the reply.
There seems to be a problem with my backup. I can't restore it anymore.
It says error restoring /android_secure ..
I downloaded the stock kernel from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1692404
And I flashed it. its said ok.
And then I tried to restore the backup, but it fails.
Is there a way to try flashing a CM nightly with a new kernel? Problem is how to copy the CM zip to the phone since it can not be turned on.
But I hear that we can push files to a phone using adb push. If that can be done I might be able to try flash a new CM rom with a new kernel. Is that even possible?
Go into your recovery and press mount and connect it to your computer and you will be able to move files to it.

Thank you a million!!!
FaiselW Bro! Thank you a million!
It worked. I managed to mount the SD card and then copied a new CM nightly to the phone and flashed it and everything worked perfectly.
I just want to thank you for all the help you've given and without your help it wouldn't be possible to fix it my own.
Thank you again and keep up the good work.
Have a nice day!
