I've had this phone almost 2 years now and even had it replaced but the gps has never worked for me. I've tried other rooms kernels modems everything and gps only seems to work on stock roms. Does anyone have better luck or do I just have a bad device.

Get a lock on ypur device on a stock rom. Then reboot recovery. Do not turn off gps before rebooting. Then wipe and flash. If still having problems. Look into gps status and toolbox.

I'll try that it'll be a while before I have the ability to revert to stock but I'll reply when I get a chance. Just tired of being lost in town lol

No problem. Btw you can always do a backup of your current rom. Then wipe and flash any touchwiz rom. Doesn't have to be a complete stock rom. Then do the gps thing. Except instead of flashing a rom after you just restore your backup. I couldnt believe it actually worked when the devs first came out with that trick. In the mean time it wouldnt hurt to reset your gps data using gps status and toolbox.

Try clearing your cache.
Or try one of the ics ROMs from the development section

I was having that problem the first 2 days of stock Rooted ICS. Oddly, the problem stopped on it's own without the need for further action :/

same here - time "changes" throughout the day
I had the same problem.
OK here's my scenario, I rooted once I upgraded from the kies ics update via the stock root on GalaxyS2Root.com and then had these problems, I then get (very) angry and decided to try it a different way, so I un-rooted, still having hang then fast restart with buttons lit up. So after I put stock ics on there I did a factory reset in stock recovery, then re-rooted now it's Ok, even though the wifi strength is horrific on the stock ics regardless (anyone else having this problem?). But this permanently fixed my problem. Hope this helped!
P.S. - I froze almost all of the stock bloatware with titanium backup as well still works great!
First of all I'm on AOKP 715 m6. My gps was nonexistent even though it was good on earlier versions. I was running a modded vle radio which i don't remember the source. Anyways, i flashed tdj's modded vle radio in one of his threads and gps initial locked on in less than 5 mins. It then locks on in less than a min after that.
At first i thought it was the kernel, so i flashed different ones, but no changes. however the radio definitely fixed it for me on AOKP.
So to those with gps problems try flashing tdj's modded radios. Sorry for being lazy on my phone and not linking them.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
This was discussed months ago. Its the basic reason modded radios were made. Apparently the RILS break GPS. So yes GPS won't work unless you flash one of the modded radios, as you found out by accident lol.

I am not using a modded radio I am using the one that came with the ics official update uvle1. And I am running AOKP M6 7-15. My GPS is the best it has ever been I get instant locks even indoors. And It is accurate too. I have also used other roms and had the same results.

yeah i remembered that discussion, and I flashed a modded radio and it worked for most ROMs. I was then really bothered that my uber great locking GPS was no more... I seriously thought I flashed TDJ's radio because I had a file with the same name in my sd card. So I was bummed and decided to test kernels because thats like testing 2 things at once lol. But yeah I ended up checking the md5 of the modded radio i had on my sd card and it turns out it wasn't the same. Must have gotten it from a different thread even though the file name was the same.
But yeah it's just a little reminder to those who have GPS problems, that even though you may think you have a perfectly working radio... you should just flash TDJ's radio mods just in case.
Just flashed TDJ's modded UCLE1 radio...still no luck with GPS

What do you guys mean when you say "breaks GPS"? I am trying to determine if my problem is similar to yours.
My problem is not really an issue with the GPS but an issue with Google Maps. When I use navigation from point A to point B, say Schaumburg to Chicago, it'll always speak directions as if it's going from point B to point A, although all the on-screen directions are correct.
I uninstalled the app and reinstalled, but have not yet tested to see if that fixed it.
Have any of you tried the agps fix for cm and aokp ROM?

I have. I don't know why, but running CM9, my GPS doesn't work no matter what. Maybe the GPS chip broke or something.

Yes this is what I have to do every time I flash a ROM and GPS breaks. I made a thread about it and there are also 2 more threads. Its a zip file you flash through cwm. Also people don't forget that if you're on cyanogenmod that you have to go into location services, GPS source and tick "use internal GPS". Or else GPS will barely work.

didn't know he had a ucle1 radio, he has a uvle1 radio though maybe try that one.
If it is the first time you're trying to lock on, it might take a while, you should turn off wifi and data while leaving your GPS on. Stand outside with it on for 5-10 mins or so, it should get a lock on. After that your GPS locks quicker the more frequent you use it.
I think a lot of people would expect GPS to lock on right away, this only happens if your phone has recent locks to the GPS. I find it best with wifi and data off and to just leave the gps on and google maps on.
btw i've tried the AGPS patch before, but if you have a crappy radio it still won't connect lol.
Here's the screenshot without data or wifi. This is inside my house. Notice the gps signal has a constant dot in the middle, i know for aokp this means i have locked on.probably the same for cm, not sure about tw, haven't been on that for a month.
Anyways it has went as low as 4m, so pretty good. This is without apply the patch.

4m is amazing! and when i used GPSStatus, it said i had 20+ sats available, but only locked onto 1 maybe 2? WHY!? Grrrr...

GPS status apk
I installed GPS status APK.. These easy steps worked for me!!!!
Under tools 1) Manage GPS state
2) Reset
3) Download new data
My GPS doesn't lock anymore. I think it may be something with the phone itself because I've tried more than four different ROMS and it searches for GPS/location on all of them.
I am using the latest Pacman AOKP ROM as my daily driver. I tried another GPS app (telnav) and I got an instant lock. I also tried the GPS fix app but that didn't help.
Does any one know what might have gone wrong or have suggestions on how to fix it. Thanks

I had the same weird problem you have. I got it working and it's been fine ever since.
Heres wat I did.
Went to settings > Application manager > ALL > Maps
Cleared Cache
Cleared Data
Uninstalled Updates
Then Unninstalled Maps
Rebooted and installed Maps from the market.
Enabled the GPS
Started navigation and it worked just like it should.
Good Luck!

Actually I was in AOKP and then I flashed the latest version of Frosty, but my GPS was working after that. Then I flashed a few different Kernels to see which one worked better. I flashed Ktoonsez first, then Deviant, and finally I settled on Xone Kernel. It was then that I realized my GPS didn't work. So I'm not sure what messed it up.

TWEAKED N3
Before anyone gets upset I did search for awhile before asking about this. I'm sure the answer is in a thread somewhere I just can't find it and the search ability in the xda app is terrible.
GPS is not working in cm11 and I know to fix you must flash a backup. I'm just looking for a good walkthru. I'm wondering things such as: Do I do a complete wipe?(not the SD partition obviously) After flashing backup and getting a gps lock do I immediately shutdown and boot into recovery? Before I flash cm11 should I do a fresh install or a backup? My Cm11 M4 is running flawlessly except for the gps. Any help would be amazing. I am going on the road for at least 3 months and will need the gps in proper working order while I'm out there. Thanks guys! Love xda!

What I did was
make nandroid of aosp rom.
Wipe all except internal storage
Restore/flash stock based rom
##gpsclrx# (##4772579#)
Enter msl (call sprint for it if u don't have it)
Phone will reboot
Open location settings, disable network/wifi location
Open maps, get lock, walk around a little bit, around 5 minutes
Reboot recovery
Wipe all except internal storage
Restore aosp
As always, ymmv but that's always fixed it for me
