Thanks for review! I had my phone for a while now with a couple minor scratches. I never really had the time to go to the store to look at cases. I'm going to have to add that "double dip" hard shell case to my wishlist.

Whatever you do, don't you dare to put the phone in your pocket or it will look like this after a month or so. I loved this case but the quality of plastic is shocking. Bottom part looks similar. Appears that middle plastic is different, looks just as good as I bought it.

What would you expect from a painted plastic?

Is there any actual proof that the non-Silver HTC One variants eventually lose their paint-job? If yes, after how long?
I have the HTC One Black, and i'm still eligible for an exchange, which i might be able to use to switch to a Silver one.

Same happened to my Double Dip
The phone does not "loose" the paint job ... but on the edges, any dent will expose the metal under the anodized coating, so the dents will be silver. On the silver model, they are not that visible for obvious reasons.
As for the generic wear and tear, everything gets eroded over time. A matte plastic case will become partially glossy over time. A painted plastic (see above) will slowly loose the paint due friction.
The only things that do not change the appearance are the cases that are not painted (like the silver ONE model or the LUMIA polycarbonate case, or oneX if you like).

Indeed. If you want it to look "original" the longest a glossy finish that's the original base color will "last" the longest. Of course this will show scratches right away. These matte finishes hide scratches but show finger grease and need constant wipedowns with isopropyl alcohol. Until self healing finishes become mainstream, it's going to continue to be a chore to maintain that "new" clean look.
Of course if you change phones every 3-6 months, it isn't that bad.

Yes, I understand. But you have to understand as well that we are talking about painted plastic. The middle part of the double dip is not painted, that is the color of the plastic itself, that why that part remained like new.
And being in use for one month or 3 months is not that relevant. It highly depends on what materials your pockets are made of.
My double dip is 3 months old and is looking slightly better than yours. Then again, it is not on all the time. It was on for one month, then I took it off an now I'm only using it when I go in places where the risk of damage increase.

I am not questioning any of that, just wanted to let people know what to expect if they do buy one. This has never happened to me with any of the cases I had over the years (maybe I was just lucky), so was a bit disappointed with this one that was also not so cheap and coming directly from the manufacturer of the phone.
One more thing, that was driving me nuts, I thought I had issues with the proximity sensor of the phone, ended up being the cover's fault. I am using Incipio Feather now, it offers barely any protection comparing to Double Dip but no more issues with the sensor.

This cover offers great protection, no marks on the phone, the esthetics of it is a different story as I pointed out. Such shame that after a while, it cheapens the look of the premium looking product.

Anyone else find that the grey HOX plastic shell suffers from wear? The grey coating on the rear has turned slightly shiny in places, suggesting to me that some of the matte surface has worn away in my trouser pocket. Also a few micro scratches on the gorilla glass! I'm not particularly phased by it, though it does seem rather soon for it to display signs of use! Still waiting for my Casemate Tough to arrive!
At least we don't have the shiny scratch-lusting build quality of the Samsung Galaxy S series

when i got my HOX i got a pouch with it and a screen protector was the first thing to on it, i've just brought this http://goo.gl/rgAO5 for £1.25 it's real nice my friend got on for his HOX thats what made my buy it lol
I've got a black HOX the only thing "shiny" on the back is the grease marks from the bacon sandwich i had this morning #yummy.
I put mine in a leather pouch when in not using it. I bought a screen protector but am not putting it on yet until some of the screen flickering issues on grey colors get solved. Though my flickering actually seems to have solved itself drastically and I only have a hint of what it once was at max brightness only now.

Perhaps it's just me then! It has to be said though, that the back of the grey HOX certainly marks/scuffs easier than the White handset and is also a sucker for showing finger prints!
I have the Grey one, all I'm saying is I completely disagree with everything said here.
I had the White one and every mark or scuff showed up on it, if you had dirty fingers then it was a right sucker for fingerprints. This Grey one is the complete opposite, besides I completely disagree with it being Grey, it's more Browny...

You sir must be colour blind... It is quite clearly grey Or am I colour blind? Who knows... Anyways, all I'm saying is - the plastic polycarbonate shell is perhaps not as robust as HTC made it out to be!

It's a really hard colour to describe because calling it Brown is pretty stupid of me, but with it being Matte Grey its almost not Grey? It's Dark...
I'd argue with your statement there. It's certainly robust in the respect that if you dropped it, its bouncy and prevents damage and reduces the chances if the screen smashing. Maybe due to the Matte & the texture its durability (for choice of better word) isn't as good as HTC make out.
Put a Sensation XE down on a table, move it across, look at the Aluminum back.. covered in scratches I guarantee you Sir

Just to correct the OP, my 1 year old SGS2 is still scratch free, even though i have more often than not skipped wearing a case on it. Just saying.
You can't even tell it's in a case and it's a perfect color match to the grey. It even fits in my PDAir holster with the case on.

I'm not here to say who is right and wrong, just to tell that I've send back my One X to HTC for one to one exchange due to flickering issue and from the job sheet stated the color was actually Brown.
I wish if there was some kind of polish that would restore the coating of the back and remove the shiny marks
perfect thing to remove shiny marks, a piece of sandpaper/emery paper, not recommended though on an expensive bit of kit like the one x.
honestly.....the only shiny parts would be oil from fingertips. I just rub it off and it looks new
And the phone is grey........the circle ring thing around the camera is brown

The polycarbonate (plastic) is shiny. The matte coating is applied. So you can't remove the "shiny," it's the matte coating having been removed that created it.
Well I guess it's just what happens to everything after a while. Used phones will end up looking used eventually!

why create one thread for aluminium cases and tpu cases? tpu is probably one of the most popular case materials around... aluminium not so much.
No this one is about bumpers not everyday cases, id be interested in a decent bumper case that didn't make the phone look too big.

Science rules, right there.
As long as it doesn't disrupt signal and reception not bad. Tons of aluminum bumpers for a lot of phones but most of them interfered with reception

Not sure if you noticed but the phone has a plastic shell and plastic is an insulator, not a conductor. When the phone feels warm on the outside, I can assure you, it is much warmer on the inside.

My aluminum bumper came in today... was shipped out on the 4th, and arrived on the 10th(wasn't expecting it to come till next week)
Thoughts:
If you like aluminum bumpers, then definitely get this. The quality is very good. There were a couple things I was worried about in regards to the bumper:
GOOD:
1. Since the phone is encased, I was worried that the fit may not be right. Either too snug or too loose. Phone fit's just right!
2. being a metal bumper I was worried about the type of lining the case would have. I own an iphone 4s as well and have metal bumpers for them, so lining is important. The lining on this is felt so it does not scratch the phone at all!
3. being a bumper, it will add a little bit of depth to your one x, not by a lot though, very minimal.
4. the buttons are very responsive and don't seem out of place. you have access to all your ports.
BAD:
1. if your looking for a bumper that will protect the camera, DO NOT get this bumper, the camera lens sticks out(see pic)
2. if you have headphones that are larger than regular size ("L" shaped) they will not work
3. definitely definitely DEFINITELY need to have a screen protector. I know it's gorilla glass, but when you slide the top portion of the bumper IT MAY scratch the screen. Also if your going to put this in your pocket, over time the bare metal may scratch the beautiful screen.
That's it, if you love aluminum bumpers, then you will like it....

Seriously, you would confess that if you sent it back!?? It's not like you've broken the terms and conditions such as when you flash the ROM.
It's a bumper, not a case so it won't stop the air circulating around the phone to cool it, and in contrast will act a bit like a radiator, conducting the heat away from the device onto a bigger surface area and increasing the cooling capability.
I like the idea, but the small added protection offered by a bumper compared to the loss of slick, thin, svelty feel phone without a thick bumper is not worth it for me.
Good find from digimaz though... "ALUMINIUM Metal Bumper Case for HTC One X" couldn't be more like it says on the tin!

Ahh, had a feeling the 'aluminium' claim would turn out to be cheaper plastic!
Just got my mesh case shipped from the UK. If it's a super thin case you're looking for that doesn't cover the front at all so it doesn't mess with a full frontal screen protector...this is the one to get!
I don't see this case protecting it from a hard drop but will protect the bezel and back from scratches. It also acts like extra grip so it doesn't slip out if your hand easily.
It is raised slightly above the bezel so you can rest it screen side down. The sides are completely open to show the sexiness the SGS 3 has to offer.
Another cool feature this case has to offer is that it has a slot for a large coin like a quarter or a .50 cent coin to act like a kickstand.
All in all, I'm really loving this case. I'll add pictures and links to buy as soon as the kids go to sleep (my turn to put them down).

That was my first case. Good case but a bit slippery for me due to the fact that the sides are not protected. I am not comfortable gripping the exposed slippery sides of the GS3.

I got mine from UK. It took more than a week, but I received it before I got my GS3. It has a perfect fit. I am just not comfortable with the sides fully exposed because those are my grip points and GS3 is light and slippery.
I am using the Cruzerlite now and it feels good with the way I grip my phone. Its all about personal choice. My 2 cents.
I am not a huge fan of bulky cases and prefer the super slim look that this case provides. It would have been better if it was a case and holster combo. To each hides/her own.

my gripe with this case is that it only protects the back
who the heck cares about the back battery cover? those cost like $10 to replace
to the OP, there has been a few reviews that i've read stating that the case's front is flush with the screen-meaning it does not protect the screen at all when faced down, even your pictures tells me the same, could you confirm that?
why isn't there any B&M stores in the US have this?

Not sure what the manufacturing tolerances are but the surface of the screen is almost flush with the case.
Let's put it this way, phones are not meant to be dropped. Depending on how they fall, there'll be some damaged no matter which case you use, except probably those fat, oversized and ugly cases. This case will protect the back, the top and the bottom of the phone. The sides are exposed as you can see. In other words it is a good case for carefull people. The slot in the back works better with credit cards. Using a coin is kind of unstable. Like the OP says, to each his own.
Modified version
They really just need to have another version that protects all of the sides, buttons, and has a small lip for the front. I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

+1 some cases are meant for those that tend to be clumsy or just want to prevent avoid or feel some what confident that the case will protect their phone in case of a drop.
Some other cases are meant to protect the phone from everyday use and abuse, minor dents, bumps, scrapes and scratches. I tend to buy my cases for this scenario.
I hardly ever put my phone down face down, I would never count on a lip protecting my screen, usually things that will scratch the screen pop up and stick out, which the protruding edges would not help protect it from scratching. Even with a quality screen protector, I avoid this, unless it's on my lap. Which if there is anything on my lap that will scratch it, it will as mentioned above..
If you're counting on a lip protecting, you're looking for trouble.
That's just my opinion.

Can this actually be called a case?
I just received my blue version from the ebay seller in Korea. It took less than two weeks to receive it. The one she sends is labeled ANYMODE instead of Galaxy S III.
Fit is nice and slim, but as everyone stated previously ... It does not protect the screen at all. I'm still waiting for my China TCP case to arrive. In the meantime, I won't get anymore scratches on the back.

Bump - does anyone know of a version of the Galaxy vent case with full protection on all sides (and hopefully a slight lip in front)?
So i finally got this case from www.mobilefun.com today. I really like the aesthetics of the case but it has a fatal flaw in that it doesnt really provide any protection for the front of the screen. For a case with a weird lump on the back, just crying out in temptation to be set screen side down, a design it without a lip to raise the screen off the surface seems thoughtless.
I like the exposed sides because it shows off how sexy and slim the GS3 is; the chances of dropping it and having it strike the exposed side seems slim. The corners are well covered but the screen is left unprotected.
Side note.. ordering from mobilefun.com =/= fun. AVOID!
I also ordered mine from www.mobilefun.com, what a nightmare, but thats another story. I received it a week ago but doesnt fit the phone. I think its because I have a "screen" protector on the back too.

The Draco S3 is a PREMIUM aluminum case offered by DRACOdesign, made of aircraft grade A6061 aluminum. The fit and finish
is far superior to all the other metal bumpers I have owned. It has very solid lock up. The Flare Red finish is flawless, unlike its
competitor's cases which included several imperfections and markings.
Thank You DRACOdesign - http://dracodesigninc.com/
Larger pictures can be found here. - http://chrismchoi.blogspot.com/2012/08/dracodesign-s3.html
The packaging alone is very nice. It looks clean and modern. I was impressed when receiving this in the mail. I felt bad for
having to open up the box.
Upon removing the case from its packaging I checked over the contents. I found what they called a Strap Cable. It's a
convenient wrist strap that works as a micro-USB cable. You can connect it to the strap loop opening on the bottom right
of the case.
When picking up the case, I notice a nice heft. It's not heavy. It's a comfortable weight and feels like a quality build. I was
glad to find that the volume rocker and power button were made of aluminum as well. The case fit very well in my hand. It did
not have the boxy feeling of other metal bumpers.
Unlike other metal bumpers, I am able to lay this down and not worry about the camera. It's very flush, it seems to keep the
camera off the surface. The opening ports are a good size. They are large enough to fit the OEM Samsung Data Cable. As
I've complimented the finish of this case, the edges are rounded off. DRACOdesign really paid attention to the small details.
I have to say I am thoroughly impressed and I rate this case highly on my list. The minimalistic design and elegant looks
have won me over.
MSRP: $89.99 and is available at DRACOdesign S3 Aluminum Bumper in 7 different colors.
It is worth the price and from past experiences I've learned to do it right the first time or buy multiple cases until you find
the one you want. I am glad the right case came along early in the game this time.
Alright Guys!
Here is the code for 30% off! It's only good on the Draco S3 Series and it's valid until 10/31/12. Snatch them up NOW!
Brings them down to $62.99. I'd rather feel comfortable from ordering direct to avoid all those counterfeits that could start flooding the market.
Don't forget to hit thanks!

Thanks everyone!
Nice pics, I would like some rubber in the middle between the phone and the bumper (a thin rubber at least )

Thanks. Sorry I made them so big. I don't have Photoshop anymore and it was too much of a hassle to install it again.
Edit - I used the thumbnails pics and have the bigger pics on my blog.
Do you think this case could handle a 5 or 6 foot drop? I would love to see a drop test video.

Case is too nice for a drop test. Lol.
Great Review :good:. Do you think it would still fit with custom backplates (metal insert one)? Do you think the metal backplate with the addition of the metal bumper would totally kill signal?

As long as it's the same size of the factory one. There may be a little bit of room. Also I have heard / read that aluminum back and bumper would drop reception. But if you're in a tower rich area you'd be fine.
Draco sent me one for review as well. I really don't like it. I'll probably just post a link to my blog later. Aside from looks, it's okay with look, feel, and protection, but other than looks, it doesn't do the very well with the rest.
how does it affect the signal?

Most aluminum bumpers do slightly affect signal. It's just the way it works.
Thanks for the review. I ordered one last night and looking forward to it. They have some on Amazon for $59.00 for anyone interested.
I thought the Draco was two toned w/ brushed steel wrap around?

They have both.
Flare Red:
Thunder Red:
They are all shown on the site.
I would love to try one of these, but to be honest, my main reason for getting a case with just about ANY phone is to make it less slippery. Don't see this case doing that in the least.... and not really keen on the idea of buying a $90 case.
So the "thunder" colors have the brush finish?

It helps with grip for me. The battery cover was where I would lose grip. Now that my hands close around the bumper, it doesn't slide out like without a case.

I would just go through Amazon and then go through them. That way you get buyer's protection. And yes, Thunder has the brush finish on the sides.
Can we please get some up close shots of the ports and buttons.
Thanks

Bigger pics on my lame blog.
I've had this product since mid September(2013), and after a summer of switching around and trying many different cases for the HTC One I never found one I truly liked until coming across this beautifully simplistic and elegant product from Woodchuck.
Using only the backing gives you the satisfying naked feel of the handset while adding a nice textured surface on the back for added stability/grip while holding the handset in comparison to using the HTC One without any case or backing, I found the aluminum to be very slippery to hold.
The only downsides of the product is your handset will be more prone to dents and other aesthetic damage leaving only the back of the phone protected from scratches. If you're careful with your handsets, this isn't an issue.
The wood back is made out of locally sourced Ebony wood in the USA. Each piece is laser cut, hand sanded and finished in their Minneapolis workshop. The product adheres to your phone with 3M™ Brand (Non-Residue) Adhesive.
Overall I would rate the product 5/5 Stars, I really love it and it's always been a conversation starter when people see my phone.
To be noted: Over time the edge of the product(on the left and right side) peels up very slightly leaving a half MM gap. It's unnoticeable unless you're looking closely at the handset.
To any future owner of the product, I advise wiping down the back of the phone with rubbing alcohol before applying the backing to ensure the adhesive sticks well.

The product comes in two different veneers available for the HTC One.
Woodchuck also caters to various phones, tablets, laptops, headphones, and custom orders.

Awesome. I've been looking for something to replace this.
Wish they'd cover the top and bottom too.

My main question, does it smell like wood? That's the only reason I'd buy a real wood skin/case, next to texture.

Yeah, of course.
It's made from real wood as stated in my review.
I think it looks great and love that it is real wood:thumbup:. My problem with it is it doesn't cover the entire back, to me it looks incomplete.
bump
Looks awful imo does not go with the metal. Should cover the whole back and it wouldn't look so bad. Prob look better with a light wood like pine.
