found a really good car mount for the xoom from Amazon ; well built, super stable, strong suction, easy to take off.
i drive a 08 subaru wrx so u know the ride is harsh and bumpy. that being said the mount has never fallen off with the relatively, big and heavy xoom on it.
im also using the COPILOT nav app from the market. full gps and mapping without the use of data. Best 4 bux i ever invested.
here's the amazon link

I'm wondering whether you've had any viewability problems with that kind of setup? Both on the road and on the Xoom screen itself?

Dude!! Be very careful with this thing, I bought this after your post, and I've had it for 20 mins and it's dropped my Xoom twice already. Don't mean to be like that, but unless you want your $600 tablet busted up, I would highly recommend you take caution with this thing. Great in theory, worthless in practice.

Weird. Been using mines for the past two weeks and no drops. I also drive with a heavy foot on my gas at times in my wrx and still no drops

I think here in Wisc I'd get pulled over with that. It looks to obstruct the view of the road just a bit too much.
And in my Jeep I'd have no luck of getting it that close to the dash.
Cool find though! I still gotta get some metal and make me my mount lol

I would keep an eye on that suction cup too. I had a mount like that for my phone that used the exact same arm and after a couple of months the cup wouldn't stick to the windshield anymore. The lever on the suction cup broke and wouldn't keep the rubber against the window. It couldn't handle the pressure on it and that was only a phone being held up.

Ill keep an eye on it thanks. I take mines in and out of my windshield about twice a day (keeps those thieves away) and haven't noticed a change in suction. Since the Cali summer heat is approaching I would like to see how well this thing holds up.

I got mine in the mail today. I drove around for an hour with it and am satisfied. I have a scion TC with tein coilovers, so the ride is anything but smooth, and the mount holds up well. It jiggles some from the weight of the xoom so I find it helps to mount it low on the windshield and let the device rest partly on the dash to help support it. My cars windshield has an odd angle to it so the mounting process is a tad awkward but once you get it on it definitely stays there. Also noting the mount works with the incipio silicrylic case.

No much going on in these forums so I decided to share this with you guys for fun.
I never had good luck with car mounts in the past especially with my Vibrant. The two ones I did purchased were flawed, one fit the phone so tight that I thought it was going to damage it and the other one hung from the window with suction cups and was always falling off. Needless to say they were both a pain in the ass!
On my commute home I like to listen to the TNT podcast or watch if possible, so I found and inexpensive solution that is ghetto but effective. I used some 3m frame hangers found at any walmart. It fits perfectly snug with my seidio active case. Here are some pics.

not really, they are 3m "top of the line". No seriously, it works great.
when you mount the phone on, they kinda look like two little hands with their thumbs sticking out.

There's plenty of apps for that. Plus I'd like to think that most people driving are capable of estimating speed to a reasonable degree.

Someone said they were using rain ex, this sounds similar. I just checked it out , seems the local sprawl-mart has it. The website pic want that black bottle in your link, but the description was nearly identical. 20 bucks and its in stock. I'm gonna pick some up and try it out on my old galaxy s phone first. I'll report back after the Patriots whoop Arizona.
I read about using RainX as well so I have decided to give it a try since I already had a bottle in the garage. So far it has created a very smooth and slick surface. It has also kept the fingerprints off, but I have only started using it. I will let you all know how it works out.

Car wax? Can't say I've heard of that one! But have used RainX on old TF101. Worked all right but needed re-applying after a while. And one didn't get the "added protection" of a film.

I tried the RainX but was not to impressed with its durability. As much as I use my tablet I would have to reapply almost daily. Which sucks considering the time it takes to apply then remove the haze.

thank god it wasnt my phone lol... I wonder how a defender would have taken it tho..
We were out on our bikes today and my friend wanted to mount it to his gas tank and used double sided velcrow.. It worked fine at normal speeds, but in the high 100s, that thing flewwwwwwwwww!

Yeah but that was the shear impact that destroyed it. Defender has it's own screen protector to cover the screen. Nothing more than a thin piece of plastic. I actually feel the commuter has more impact protection cause it has the harder case behind the soft shell thus dispersing the impact over a wider area allowing the soft shell to absorb it. And like I said, I highly doubt anything would have survived that.

Now that I took a better look, it's a Sprint iPhone. No better iPhone to dunk in water. Just sayin.

That's really neat technology, but I wouldn't do it to the phone I paid $600 for. To be honest, water damage is the least of my concerns. I'm far more likely to drop it on pavement or gravel.

I sure hope you weren't a can of hydrophobic solution!
I remember seeing the first videos for this and thought it seems awesome. Many kinds of possibilities for the stuff. Just wondering how clear of a coating this stuff is, if it'll affect the touch sensitivity much, heat dissipation, and if it'll muffle the speakers and mic.

What about the connectors for battery, sd and sim cards, headphone jack, usb port.....I'm assuming you'd have to scrape the stuff off of where ever there needs to be bare metal for a connection. If anyone does this be extremely careful of the usb/charging port! It can be easily damaged. And this stuff probably won't be easy to get out of a headphone jack if it blocks the connection.
I'm also curious about the effect it has on the sound, but more importantly the mic. Will others be able to hear you as well?
I'm cautiously optimistic with this stuff. It is awesome, but for a smart phone, I don't know. Kinda wonder if they were just using it as an extreme demonstration, like the guy with a screen door in the bottom of the boat. Sure it can be done, but it is never actually recommended you do so.
Not trying to be a downer, just thinking of all the angles to look at before doing a $600 test. Be careful! And good luck! I really do hope it works w/o any issues!
Oh and someone asked about touchscreen sensitivity. They did not apply it to the screen.
