Implemeting voltage adjustment in kernel, any tutorial on xda? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I will be trying to modify Turbo Kernel 3.1 to add some funcionalities and maybe even fix some bugs but fixing bugs is going to be a big problem if I won't be taught programming immidiately after I start school, so ATM I can add 2 things in dan's kernel.
2GHz O/C - it can be done, it's just changing 0 to 1 and rebuild...
Voltage adjustment...well it might be a problem for me since I can't find any tutorial for that thing and therefore I have no idea how to do this... can anybody help me or find a tutorial for me? Thanks...
I'm trying to get into kernels so please help me with this
I found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331610
is adding this code to that file going to work?...

I thought that at least one user here is experienced enough
It seems that any1 with enough dev skills left our play ;(

There are some developers still working on the Play, but are more focused on getting kernel 3.4.

Well... Kind of. One of them is just going to join xperia play board, he hasn't joined us yet. Also that guy Hashy... I guess that he was just talking, I'm not sure tho. I couldn't see anything of what he has done, but let's hope that I'm wrong...

Try contacting wedgess as his kernels support voltage modifications. At least lupus JB v5 does

Look at this commit https://github.com/garwedgess/LuPuS-GingerBread/commit/3bff3b303bda7fa443a570639d15d283110b72a4
I know I added in governors as well in this commit but u can see where VDD support is added. You then must define it in your config. And thats it. But doesn't Dan have VDD support in Turbo kernel??

I have to define it in my config? Please explain. Also dan's kernel does not have VDD support. In neither roms nor IncrediControl I could change voltages.

any chance of kernel development for hero?

Hi Modders and developers! I have noticed that the kernel of hero is locked so technically overclock widget and setcpu don't work on it! I was wondering if some of you can remove the perf locks from the kernel and compile a new kernel which can be used with setcpu and overclocked to liking! I know this is hard but please give it a try! Millions of hero users will be thankful to you! Thanks!
It's been discussed many times, as I understand once 2.1 is released the kernel source will soon follow, there's no point doing the work until we have it.
Well Lox released a beta kernel a while back for 1.5 firmware rom's to do this...
It was a beta release but here is the link anyway:
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/302182/beta-run-your-hero-at-660mhz/
Sure it was discussed there were no noticeable improvements.
maxo64 was able to tweak it to run at 528mhz with screen on and 2** with screen off! so can any one of you change those while compiling a rom?
i searched every where but the only kernels that work with setcpu and actually allow you to overtweak and down tweak are for cdma hero! CDMA! please develop one for gsm hero.....
I second your motion! Was thinking of starting a thread with the same question...Would love to be able to down tweak to 192MHz when screen is off, or maybe even lower.

Hello,
setcpu and overclockwidget not work correctly, but with overclockwidget I see actual cpu freq., and if I "sleep" phone, freq. go down (24x) - if you very very quickly unlock screen, you ca see this.
I try this with VillainROM5,22 and Androbin1,111x.

gingerbread overclock kernel over 1,2 ghz?!

Hi since i am using my desire iam asking myself if there is a kernel to overclock the device more than the usual max. of 1,2 ghz which are given in the most roms and propably kernels....
In the past i hat an acer liquid which actually uses the same cpu but some sort of broken or not well done ones so itonly runs at 700 mhz but mine was actually able to up to 1,1 ghz so i think there must be at least some desire which are able to go higher than 1,2 ghz, but until now did not found a 2.3 rom or kernel which enables this.
Any one arround here who knows how to modifie a kernel to enable more frequencies?
The best I've seen so far is 1113 Mhz...but of course different Desires have different capacities. I can cook up a kernel for you with 1.2 Ghz, but you have it from me that it will simply reboot immediately!
I did some experiments with overclocking, and round about 1113 MHz was the maximum stable frequency, above my device got serious instability / freezes.
mine is running stable at 1190 mhz now but want to test where its stable but cant find a kernel for sense 3.5 which supports higher frequencies...
but as you said before every cpu is differnt maybe it can go higher

Does it just enable the freq or it actually is stable at that freq? If the latter, then I do need to have a look at the source!

Err I'm not 100% sure that THAT was the actual frequency, but it was the 2nd highest setting (highest setting rebooted) and it was fairly stable. Check it out with setcpu

Would this kernel work with roms like cm7 or oxygen? I currently use eviolett's manu 2.1 at 1190Mhz without any issues and would like to see if my phone perform stably at a higher speed.

[Q] How To Fix Game Lag

Hey, i have this problem from the begining...
So i have android version 4.2.2.
I'm running phone on franco Kernel 3.0.85 with Paranoidandroid Rom 3.56, Also i use app to OC my phone to 1,6ghz.
So everything is okay expect gaming , example when i play temple run 2 and i set on the best quality it will not run smooth you can see lags ingame and i think this phone should run it easily.
I was reading forum but i didn't found any solution for my problem, i tried to find busfreq_static with following informations :
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/busfreq_static
but there's no busfreq_static file when i enter to cpufreq directory , i use File Explorer just to check am i able to find busfreq_static file but i can't.
Any solution , any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

first, dont OC to 1.6!! the following may help you:
go to Settings and click on Developer Options and enable Force 4x MSAA. Multisample anti-aliasing (MSAA) is a technique used to improve image quality. Since the Gnex has a GPU capable of supporting MSAA. Keep in mind this will also cause your GPU to work harder and your device may get hotter and consume more power than normal. It’s also possible that all games may not support this.

No , it didnt help. I already tried it before , but when i Force 4x MSAA it just makes game more lagy , maybe cuz of game , anyway i gave an example Temple Run 2 , but even other 3D games are laging , why shouldnt I OC to 1.6 , could brick phone or ?
It can blow up your cat. If it's the same with 1.2GHz... Why are you OC'ing? Go do some reading on voltage control and smartreflex on 4460.
Something tells me you're forgetting basics on how to OC on this device. If you don't supply enough voltage for all the cpu steps, device will stutter and lag, might even reboot.

first thing you need to do is disable SmartReflex® across the board, so that your user-defined voltages stick.
messing with voltages is very device-specific. increment voltage by small ammounts, stress-test and use the device for a while to make sure it's stable.
have you tried running those games while running Google's stock kernel?

Do you even know anything about ROMs and kernels?
When I said have you tested this on stock kernel, I meant, did you try this on stock ROM, but specified kernel because, it's like, common knowledge for someone who flashes ROMs, that custom ROMs devs often alter kernel (and ramdisk) to support features on their custom roms..
Have you for example tried reflashing PA, and just PA, nothing else? Does it lag then?
Have you for example tried fully reverting back to stock? (factory images)
Why is it that you just want your games not to lag, not even trying to gain a deeper understanding about what people are telling you.
Listen, this is the last time I'm saying this:
I told you to check your voltages, since you're OC'ing, and expecting SR to do the job for you.
Test by reflashing again PA, with no custom kernel.
Test by going back to stock, through fastboot/factory images.
Temple Run 2 on best quality lags in mine too.Probably it was designed for 1080p.Just keep the graphics a little lower, doesn't affect gameplay or quality

[KERNEL] HybridMix (5-16-14) back again!

===>INTRODUCTION<===
This is my personal kernel based off of ASKP. I cherry-picked a lot of custom commits from many big kernels. I'm new in development, so, any help whatsoever (commits, suggestions, logs, etc etc) would be greatly appreciated
releases will be as frequent as possible, as I'm gone for 7 hours of my day during weekdays.
****FEATURES****
using A.S.K.P as the base<- you get all the features of A.S.K.P+ more
linux kernel 3.101 WITH the Con kalivas patchset for improved performance
L3 cache overclock (116MHZ)
custom RAM OC setup (333MHZ/400MHZ/466MHZ)
gpu oc interface (307/384/512)
optimized CRC32 computing algorithem
optimized square root interger library
custom voltage setup, modified by me personally taking inspiration from the voltage's of other kernels, everything from the GPU voltage to the screen regulator has been tweaked
CPU overclock up to 1.7GHZ
multiple governors i have personally added (this is ALWAYS changing considering what jhonny/grarak/faux/bsmitty/Amperific/boype do to their governor,or what i personally decide to do)
some new IO schedulers have been added
EXFAT is added, 1.2.5 source from dorimanx
updated RWSEM to linux 3.14
numerous enhancements to SLUB including a update to the 3.3 version
MMC software updates/enhancements
GPU side enhancements
HUGEMEM setup (this is a arguement from me personally, the gnex is only a 720P phone, you cannot utilize 1080P with out screen,so even if this is a retarded and dirty hack,i want to use the extra available ram)
ALL kernel logging has been disabled for a increase in speed
Kernel SamePage merging has been updated to linux 3.6 standards with faux's check page patch for improved performance and efficiency
memory Compaction updates for better performance
modified screen colors

many misc enhancements from AK kernel
many misc OMAP enhancements
the latest WIFI drivers WITH a working hotspot
a modified anykernel zip package that will install a new HOSTAPD binary for working wifi hotspot and new meda_profiles.xml to fully disable 108PTHIS KERNEL USES VERY HIGH CLOCK SPEEDS WITH VERY LOW VOLTAGES,I BUILD THIS KERNEL THROUGH A "PERSONAL" SETUP,IF YOU GET SOD'S/ FREEZES,PLEASE UP YOUR VOLTAGES ON "MPU" BY 25 UNTIL THEY STOP :3
IF YOU'RE GOING TO USE A HOTPLUG GOVERNOR, FOR ALL THAT IS HOLY DO NOT USE MULTICORE POWER SAVING WITH IT. THIS CAUSES ISSUES AND NO BUG REPORTS ARE ALLOWED IF YOU HAVE HOTPLUG WITH MCPS

thanks man, means alot! really do appreciate the support!
Flashing it as I type
Will report soon, it's good to see new kernel from people in this gnex threads
Edit: got my first freeze, lol. Maybe the voltages are too low, I guess?
But I got a couple questions:
1. Did you intended to UV voltages, including IVA? I see it lower than DirtyV and Franco.
2. The frequency steps..... There's a lot of it, but is it correct? There are numerous voltages that are new to me lol like 460, 1480, 1560...
Maybe you could explain just a little bit lol
Edit2: pattyboi did you implemented early suspend on interactive? There's a slight lag when waking up the device
Btw there's pegasusq, too.
This is how it starts you are now entering the Linux twilight zone of the quest for the best kernel patches go get em @pattyboi:)
@aosp you're a veteran
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
@pattyboi:)
Thanks, bro! It looks nice. Do you maybe know how to add to this kernel 85MB Ram (to make SuperRAM version)?

sorry for the late reply bud,i fell asleep after getting that 2nd build up. the 460 is gonna be removed,as i said im still nooby and i didnt add it right :silly: the rest should be correct as i didnt touch any other one,the uv voltages were just burstlams slight uv on regulators,i havent touched anything with iva,mpu or anything else, ill probabaly bump them up a lil within the nest couple days still gotta wrap my head around how to properly do it lol. but thank you for testing man! & yeah the interactive early suspend i "think" is there,is 7 am so im not entirely sure,if its causing wake lag i might try and switch the interacitves or just remove early suspend, like i said its a big mess i gotta iron out
EDIT ,one more thing, did you disable eco mode? that might cause wake delay because it was for me

Alright buddy you did it. Now all you gotta do is sit back and watch the thanks meter get higher than the post meter. Then you will be a certified guru.

Take it easy bud, we're all here learning as well lol
Yeah I'm not using eco mode and intelli-plug, not liking the less-snappier feel lol.
You could take interactive from either bsmitty's or Franco's, I think they're making out the best interactive so far. :good:
Also, this kernel has GPU governor. Is it overclocked as default?
Btw, I'm suggesting to do some wrapping on your OP. Because your kernel has many features inside lol
Thanks!
