Ok so im going to buy those headphones http://store.sony.com/p/Stereo-Headphones/en/p/MDRZX100/BLK for my main set and i wanna use my phone as a player since i lost my walkman player ;(.What i need it a good rom for playing music aka one with good battery life. Can some1 recomment one
Err...there is no best. Any ICS or GB ROM with stock kernel will give you a great battery life. They all have more or less the same battery life (stand-by drain 0,4-0,6% per hour)
Well, i cant say if it was just me or what, but with arconium 8.2 + doomkernel v22 (GB) my arc s could last around 35+ hr of music (with the screen off of course), but with the ROM im on right know i just get around 22-25 hrs (X-Gamer V2.0 + Lupus GB v2).
I think it is because of the arconium is basically stock ROM, but again, im not quite sure...

Hi, first at all i want to say that i tested nearly every rom & kernel combinations and still i'm not satisfied with the performance. Overall device is performing better (i'm running @1,4GHz - Stock Plus & DoomKernels 15-20) and in 3D heavy games framerate is higher for sure, but there's a lot of stuttering and sometimes games are unplayable (for example Backstab and Asphalt 6 with annoying one sec stuttering). On stock kernel game (Backstab) is running without any performance issues (only few dropped frames when there's a high draw distance) and the device itself is running "only" at 1GHz. Now something about DoomKernel - interface is not running smoothly (with simple 3D live wallpaper but 2d is ok) and i can give you another gaming example with MC3 - main menu is running at ~20 fps (and game itself is also stuttering) and on stock kernel/stock plus it's much smoother. So there is any fix for my problem or it's something wrong with my arc or what . Stock kernel by Sony > custom kernels? Something is wrong here... Thanks in advance and pardon about my english .
try playing on performance governor
I played with governors with no result ;(

okay, now i'm gonna "stress test" every single governor available in kernel ; d
Bump!
I've added a video :<

Have you tried Stockplus Kernel? It's based on DoomKernel but has a lot of changes and tweaks. Some people report better results with it when compared to DoomKernel.

Hi,
I'm currently using ICS 4.0.3 on my Arc S. This kind of sucks for gaming (loads of lag in games like Temple Run)...
I've been waiting for the 4.0.4 update but my SI number still hasn't appeared on the list :crying:
So I was basically wondering... Does the ICS update offer a better performance for gaming? Or do you think I should downgrade to GB?
Thanks for your help
In my opinion GB is better for gaming.
Prince
I also found gb better for games. There just seems to be a little bit of lag in big games after ics.
Okay thanks guys I guess I'll downgrade to GB then...
Will this void my warranty? :S
No, that wouldn't void your warranty at all.
Just be sure you flash 2.3.4 and not the previous versions as you might get the 0% battery issue.

Ok thanks I'll flash 2.3.4 and hopefully the lag will stop
small games like temple run and fruit ninja may have a little lag on 4.0.3 but hd games run really good, btw before anyhting i recommend you try arconium rom 4.0.4, the 4.0.3 build was in beta stage and besides arconiums rom has software rendering enaled, wich means it will run smoother, however in whatever ics rom you are, the xperia launcher always seems to lag, what i did was to flash arconium 4.0.4, and replaced the xperia launcher and music with apex launcher and google play music from the system/app folder, now my arc works like a charm, of course if your looking for gaming with 20mb games then i guess gb would be best, iif thats the case try arconium gb 8.0 or cyanogenmod 7.2.
Tried most of the ICS ROMs, AOKP had been best for gaming while on ICS. Now I've came back to GB 2.3.4, and it feels a lot more smoother now! :O If you're into gaming, then go for GB (preferably Arconium 8.2).

What would be the difference between this and the stock GB rom?
Whats the best ROM to have on the xperia play. Im currently on the joka wild v3 ROM, and ive heard some people are playing tdkr smoothly on other roms. And its really laggy for me on my phone, even though its oc'd to 1.7GHz!
anyways, what do you think is the best lightweight ROM and good for 3d gaming?

I haven't tried TrueAncestor, but it sounds like people are having better success with it. It sounds in general like the .58-based ROMs are having better luck. I'm running Gin2Jellybean (also based on .58) and am extremely happy with it. I haven't played Dark Knight yet, but am enjoying the Amazing Spider-Man fine with small lag. The UpdateMe feature that Gin2Jellybean incorporates to help keep your phone patched up to date is also nice (it automatically finds update.zip patches for you for your ROM).
So I highly recommend Gin2Jellybean - I'm even running the full version of it, though there is a lite version as well. It and TrueAncestor seem like the best Gingerbread choices to me right now - and I'm not sure ICS is a sound choice for gaming as of yet.

You overclocked to 1.7Ghz but haven't overvolted so it is no use as you will get the performance of something like 1.2Ghz and lot of lag anyway with proper voltage settings it will easily overheat, I reccomend Gin2Jellybean as a daily driver.
I am currently testing the rom Markphyton v4. It really is great! Test N.O.V.A3 and The Dark Knight Rises. Very quickly, in the legs. But I can not play videos with the default player. MOBO player installed to wait to fix.

Ive tried a handfull of roms available for locked bootloaders. So far I have to say Gin2JellyBean is my favorite. But if your bootloaders arent locked like mine are then theres alot more possibilities out there too.
I play NFS MOST WANTED for exactly 2 minutes and my battery loses 2%... ?
Is that normal? Also what can I do to save up some battery?
EDIT : I see too much "Screen" .. its at almost 50% brightness .. and I've also included 3 dump files from Betterbatterystats, but I really don't understand anything so please PLEASE take your time and help me out ...
Need any help I can get ..
It really depends on your ROM.
I played on Stock rom high quality games, battery drops every minute.
I play on custom (Specifically Android Rev 8.0) with tweaks from Pimp my Rom (The battery hack) and the battery drops maybe every 5-10minutes or longer depending on the game im playing or even movies.

I have the Omega ROM and as far as I can remember there is only one battery hack on PMR.. right?
This has always been happening, its incredibility frustrating the music will cut out/or will stutter often. It does seem to do it more often the longer the phone is booted up. But there is enough free RAM and I don't really know why it's doing it, I have even reinstalled the firmware...running stock ICS .55. so irritating if anyone can tell give me a working solution I will buy you a coffee!:good:
Every music player on stock ICS for XS shutters (on my XS) .. Seems to be a problem with stock rom..
My friend's low end Samsung Galaxy Y doesn't have this problem. I try my best to avoid playing music around him.. Its embarrassing IMHO..

Yes.. Seems to be the worst affected.
Testers are reporting smooth music playback on latest leak JB Firmware : 6 .2 .B .0 .197 ... Everything is working except for some minor bugs..
You can try that out..
There's a setting in poweramp to increase buffer size, I leave it as is and haven't had any stutters or skips on stock ics

Yep I have it on Huge (+750ms) and it still skips
@Jackmax32 good to hear, more excited for its release then ever
Strange, I haven't had it happen once. I'm using 6.1.A.3.7 firmware, heavily debloated, with unit.d tweaks.
