[Q] WiFi fix from RichmondoUK - HTC One X

Hi guys,
I have seen that many ROMs implement a " WiFi Fix, thanks to @RichmondoUK ".
Does anyone know what this fix does? Which file is changed and why? Perhaps we can get a word from the original author (if he is not too busy with his new masterpiece)?
I searched all ROMs' threads and nobody goes into details. Someone mentioned libbcc.so, libbcc.sha1.so OR libbcc.so.sha1, and regulatory.bin.
The OTA update from Maximus changes these three files. But I would like to understand why...
Would someone please share (Rich?). Users on stock would be thankful...
Thank you,

why you want to understand it? all are happy to have good connection back so they don't care about what changed or not ... it could be that some of those files were f*cked up in some case by htc...so RichmondoUK just took those files from sense 4+ i think and it's working now all again

This 'fix' is unusable by "Users on stock". It involves editing system files, hence rooting.
How it works would be no good to you.

For the simple fact that I want to KNOW what I'm flashing onto my device? I've been wondering the same and couldn't find it.
For instance, if the driver normally picks the highest bandwidth when required and scales down to save power when there is no traffic; but the driver has a flaw and it 'forgets' to scale up and thus wifi becomes slow. There are several ways to fix that:
- Actually fix the flaw and make the scaling work
- Just force the highest speed and disable scaling thus trashing you're battery life
I would surely pick no. 1. Obviously this is just a non-sense example but it does outline WHY I want to know what it does rather than just accepting it works.
[edit] Come to think of it; I believe the question behind the question is "Is it a fix or is it a workaround/dirty hack?" [/edit]

"Users on stock" can edit all system files they want, provided that they are rooted (like me).
In other words, when I say on stock I mean on a stock rom (and not on an unrooted, locked phone).
I do change system files when needed, but I want to be in control of what are the implications on my phone. Hence, I was asking some more information. It's not that I don't trust the developers. I am thankful to them. I just would like to know what is in my phone and why a certain file needs to be replaced.
While the fact that trips kernel does not suffer from the wifi problem is explainable by the different wl128x firmware included in his modules, the solution from RichmondoUK/Maximus/etc remains a mistery to me.

So, to be sure.
The fix CAN be applied to stock rom when rooted?
On my stock rom, I get the WIFI issue and would like to fix this without having to install a complete rom.
If someone can convince me to install MaximusHD (incl fix) to be better than "root stock device and install fix only" I will do that.
In fact I'm pleased with the stock rom and any other tweaks are not really needed.

MaximusHD has an OTA update for WIFI using the fix mentioned in this thread.
I installed it and now my WIFI is great.
My problems were disconnects, long connection times, very low bandwidth and throughput.
After fixing, those issues are gone and I can use WIFI even on very poor connections.

yo, and its better than arhd 31.2? thanks

can't say that i reccommend this CM7 :s
i'm having nothing but trouble after i've installed it, and i can't seem to even get back to stock, it just gives errors :\
anyone who's not "upgraded" yet, i'd be very careful before going ahead with it for the moment :s
I had trouble with CM7 too.Installed it few times and always there was some bugs.
The most annoying was screen freezing and only battery removal helped.
but suddenly all that stopped and everything is working.
I will sure try some other ROMs,just to compare with this one.I am looking for roms without sense.

The ROM getting more exposure is going to likely show some things that need fixing.
If you can get it back on there your logcat logs and kernel logs will be of help to Alquez to address any issues with it.
I personally had an issue with my Wifi and had to use the radio lib from HTC Stock 2.3.5 to resolve it.
These things are experimental to say the least.

What was your problem with the Wifi ? I'm not seeing all the accesspoints around here... Not sure what's causing it.
Where do I get the radio from the HTC stock and how do I flash it ?

I think you need to try a little 180 on looking at things here.
The fun of this is trying new things and overcoming challenges to have something off the beaten path, custom and cool.
Sometimes it takes some trial and error but have fun with it! See it as a puzzle or a challenge to overcome.

[Q] Wifi Not connecting for 4.2.1 ROM's - Galaxy N7100

Hi All
I am having a wifi connectivity issue with all the 4.2.1 ROM's. Earlier I had posted this in the Noob friendly thread. I guess that was not the correct forum for this question. The below is the description from my earlier question. Appreciate any help. Sorry for the long post. I wanted to give as much information as possible. Surprisingly, I don't find any threads which adress this question for 4.2.1. Am i the only one having this problem?
I am using the Galaxy Note 2 international model. I am trying the CM 10.1 nightly ROM's and other ROM's like HyperdroidJBX V2.0. They are cool roms and I really like them, but the only problem I am facing is the Wifi connectivity issue. At any point of time, when I am turning on and selecting my home Wifi connection, it stays on 'Obtaining IP address' or some other message, but never gets connected. This is the same issue, I faced even in 4.1.2 versions, but I had a work around as follows. Now, I don't know , how to do that in 4.2.1 ROM's.
Open dial pad and dial *#0011* and then chose Wifi from Menu. Turn off the button which is currently 'on' and the Wifi connects .. This happens every time, I restart the phone. But once done , no issues in connecting or disconnecting.
Any help appreciated. I am new to this forum and please let me know, if any data needs to be provided from my end to help fix this issue.
PS: This issue, has stopped me from trying the 4.2.1 ROM's as it is eating up my 3G mobile data connection.
have this problem with all the 4.2.1 ROM's except the one from monx - cm-10.1-20130110-NIGHTLY-n7100-monx-01.

Keep calm and do the following:-
Download this zip file. And extract it to your etc/wifi folder.
http://db.tt/BWGleyxg
Since you need to overwrite a system folder, mount it as R/W from the default R/O using Root explorer or any other explorer(This is the important bit and there is no excuse for messing this part up)
Then copy and paste the conetnts of the "wifi" folder you earlier extracted to etc/wifi and choose "Overwrite files" option.
DONE.
If this doesn't work, then probably nothing will.
And to those of you wondering what is the zip file,it is actually a backup of the wifi folder of 4.1.1 which i have been overwriting into new ROM's wifi folder to make my wifi work. If you have any query, feel free to bug me.
GoodLuck.
Thanks for the quick response. Can you please ellaborate on the exact step you have mentioned to overwrite the system's wifi folder! I am new to the Linux world and would appreciate some help here.
I understand some files in the existing Wifi folder will get overwritten. But what happens to the others in the folder? Can I leave them there?

Your phone must be rooted for doing this.
1.Download the file on PC or Phone.
2.There should be a folder named wifi.
3.Download Root explorer or any other explorer that allows mounting system to R/W from R/o.
In root explorer, you just need to click the r/w to mount system as re wriatble.
4. Copy the CONTENTS of the wifi folder and paste it in system/etc/wifi <---paste here.
5.You will be asked if you want to overwrite the file. Click yes.
Reboot.
Enjoy.

Hello Again
I have started facing this issue again, when I am installing 4.2.2 ROMs now. The trick you had mentioned of copying the older version wifi files (from the dropbox location you mentioned) and pasting them in /etc/wifi is not helping now.
After pasting the files in wifi folder, and rebooting, when i turn on the Wifi, it stays in 'Turning On' state. It neither allows me to turn Wifi Off or on. Even a reboot is not helping.
Any further suggestions on how to fix this issue is appreciated?
Also, one question, am I the only one who is facing this issue? Why I don't hear from anyone else in the forums about this issue? This is like a permanent issue for me since 4.1.2 upgrade.
Appreciate your help.

Anyone, Any help? I have attached the screenshot to compare the files in the /etc/wifi folder between the version 4.1.1 and 4.2.2.
Hope this helps. I see a number of new files and some files which have changed over the release.
Earlier copying the old wifi files in to the /etc/wifi folder used to fix the problem. now it is not helping.

Thanks for the reply. Check the suggestion in this thread of copying the wifi folder using a root explorer/efs explorer. It fixed the issue for some of the ROM's and till 4.2.1. But again it resurfaced with 4.2.2 ROM's.
I am also searching in some other forums and threads. Will try to inform, if I find something.
Did you try resetting the router? It helps for some.

I just read in some other forum that the issue is with AOSP and CM based ROMs. To try it out, I installed a AOKP based ROM - Resurrection Remix and the wifi worked fine. But for the record, another AOKP ROM - ROOTBOX had the same wifi issue.
So if anyone is really stuck with this Wifi issue and wants to try the Android 4.2.1/2, you can try the AOKP ROM's for a change.

Hi,
Have you found a fix for the wifi not connecting problem? Unfortunately for me, resetting the router doesn't help.
I'm thinking of exchanging my n7100, but I need to know which version to avoid that has this problem.

I'm surprised this is still a problem with the latest CM 10.1 nightlies (I've tried 2013-04-01).
Same problem here, since the 4,1.2 update. I had high hopes for the upcoming 4.2 update to adress it, but those hopes fall flat to the ground, reading this thread. All that's left to do then, is to return the phone for warranty service. Something I've avoided so far, since I really need my phone on a from day to day basis. I suspect that I won't get it back for 3-4 weeks. A really disturbing option. I'm lost now....
I have installed the new dmc3 firmware from samsung. Now everything is working!!!! Wifi works now on 4.1.2. No speed drops or anything.

First time poster, same issue with WiFi on CM 10.1. I can't find a solution to this for the life of me. The phone is 3 days old, so by the sound of it, this is something common to newer N7100 hardware?
Does anyone have a working solution to this WiFi problem?
Someone have tried to start with old rom touchwizz and old radio?

I posted about this a few weeks ago, but the problem you describe seems to be rare enough that no one believes the WiFi not playing nice with CM exists.
So basically, I had to return the brand new N7100 and purchase a used one that worked with CM. Until enough people complain, I don't think this problem will be addressed (at least it wasn't in my case). Your best bet is to exchange for another one and hope it doesn't have the same issue.
Keep in mind not all newer N7100 are affected.

This feature is definitely not available on stock rom, and only 1 stock based custom rom has it (Renovate rom, which i tried downloading but servers were down, so i flashed Trickdroid with 4.2.2 instead). But it's available on almost all aosp based roms. Once AOSP roms for the One start being really stable for daily use, i won't even think of having a sense based rom again.
yes of course iam sure.
in my note2 this was an flashable zip mod,
but in my htc one this is stock possible! thats because iam so wondered after i read that for this is a mod...

Well, you must be the only person that can kill any app by pressing the back button...with a stock rom.

I've tried for over 1 week to do this (when making DarkSense One ROM) and I couldn't do it, E.Cadro also tried and can't either - we are both experienced with smali.
If you want this so bad then flash Viper. They are only able to do it because m0narx intercepts all button calls then sorts them out in his own files (VenomButtonsManager), bypassing the calls already in the existing android.policy.jar files.

[Q] Problems with Stock ROM, and recommendations for a non-android User.

Hello Everyone!
First of all I want to say that this is not directly help for me, but for my girlfriend. I dont know you guys, but she is tired of her stock ROM since it freezes a lot of times, and yes, I have checked it, I tried updating, hardreset...etc and after a week the phone gets a lot of performance issues.
So my question is, I would like a modified ROM from the official last update if it exist, I mean that everything is working on the phone and it is of course faster than stock phone. This is not a questions "which is the best" nope, I just want to hear your reccommendations because I am not a user of this phone and I dont know very well all different versions etc. Furthermore I have read a lot on the forums, and i have a small idea what could work for this case.
for example:
Since this is a mod from a Stock ROm, It shoudnt has any problem, Isnt it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2400633
My big concern is that Im not the user of the phone, and you now what happens with "users" if something is not working...
Happy new Year!

You can use WinDroid 2.0 toolkit. If u want good ROM... Ignorance is really good but try something from higher shelf HTCdroid. It's the best ROM for HTC One V! The smoothest and the fastest. But a lot of ROMs has one issue. Data usage doesn't work... Why? I don't know I'm working on it but here is one ROM what haven't got it it's MoDaCo.one Ir2 here it works. But it's outdated so use newer ROM like Ignorance!
Cheers and good experiences with unlocked HOV

thanks but, the main ones have good 3G connection right?? I mean ignorance and HTCDroid right??
Im starting the process, man this stock ROM gives problems even while sync contacts
If you are tired of sense shpongle is the way to go. If you are okay with it, pick htcdroid. Both best in its classes. Htcdroid seems bugless or only minor bugs visible while shpongle got camera dead - you need 3rd party apk.

[Q] Best CM7 ROM for our HTC Wildfire S

Hi all,
quite tricky question..I know..but can someone post the best and most stable / fastest CM7 ROM please? I am really angry about KK ROMs now because the perfomance is simply bad for daily usage / searching on internet / ...
And a little "off topic": CM9 would be with performance worst than CM7..am I right? and also there are a lot of bugs in CM9 based ROMs..am I right? CM7 is probably only one ROM which is "bug free"..am I right?
Thx all who will help me to get the best of our "old machine"
Yeah, +1 here... I'm guessing the answer will be "go back to stock". However if that is so (CM7 not stable enough or some crucial part buggy), I would also like to ask if there is a debloated version of stock sense rom? Or a list of things that we can kill after rooting our phone?
Using search didn't really help alot... All that I can find are modified stock roms - cramming even more unnecessary stuff instead of removing junk...
Anyone?

I hope that answer "go back to stock" wouldn't be an answer..I hope that there will be good ROMs for us who are looking for maximal performance - and maximal performance is also possible with tweaks
