Hello guys, I really need help here.
I use a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100, it was working fine until I decided to Root it using the All-in-One Toolkit which also worked fine after Rooting. I later decided to flash a Custom ROM (CM 10.1 - Android 4.2.2) so I did a TWRP Nandroid Backup then flashed the ROM. I was disappointed by the new ROM especially the Camera Quality so i chose to go back to old ROM.
I tried Restoring the backup but it kept failing, so I flashed a stock ROM, re-Rooted the phone and tried the Restore again. When it finally worked and I got the phone running, there was a very big problem: SERVICE STATE: Out of Service & MOBILE NETWORK STATE: Disconnected. I cant make calls, Cant send SMS nor surf the Internet. I really don't know how to go around this, I tried Factory Reset but no Success.
Help Please.

The first 4 digits of the IMEI shown is 0049
Which i have noticed are different from the IMEI shown behind the phone itself.
0049 is a generic imei which means your efs is corrupt.. did you take a efs backup like all the rooting and custom rom guides say to take once rooted.

No, I didnt do and efs backup :crying:
All I remember to have done was the TWRP Nandroid Backup.
Check your sd card for a folder Named EFS. If not you can try flashing stock rom via odin which some people have succesfully revived there phones with.

There are loads of guides on here @Xda For this problem. You can use the search feature and type note 2 lost imei and the guides will pop up.. if your not familiar with odin you can use kies but you will need to purchase triangle away. Then unroot to connect to kies..

I had erased everything from the SD card and Internal storage :crying::crying::crying:
i have also tried the Stock ROM but there is no success.
Isnt there a way maybe that I can get the efs from another phone or download a backup? Or can the phone be revived by any custom ROM out there? :crying::crying:
The only method for you then is to purchase triangle away from play store. You should be able to use wifi. Open triangle away reset flash counter. Then in super su go to full unroot. Then open kies and click tools click firmware initialisation I think it is and enter the model number and serial number of your phone. Get this from under battery. Accept the kies download and wait for reboot. Some people have had success with this but yiu defo need to purchase triangle away to reset your counters. Without reset kies will not work..
Edit: just been looking and apparently once youve installed newer roms you cant revert to anything before dmf firmware. Unless you had your efs backup..

Sorry to tell you that I have this problem 1 week ago, I didn't back up my efs, I tried installing more than 5 official stock roms, and I couldn't retrieve my efs nor my imei number, and finally I gave up trying and sent it to samsung for repair today
Read that if it could help you by any means ...
and sorry for your mobile I really know how it feels

It should support. Did you use triangleaway and unroot through super su. If kies detects any mods such as root or custom recoveries it will not work.. I have seen loads of people have success with this method while others have had success with odin.. if both havent worked for you, then its gonna be a costly repair at service centre im afraid..

I tried it several times but it fails with the same error. I was also thinking of the Samsung Service Center Option but :crying::crying::crying: I am in Tanzania and all I can find here are Samsung Shops and am told for a service center I need to Travel to Nairobi - Kenya (Nearby country) which is actually going to cost a whole big lot.:crying::crying::crying: so Practically am stuck with the Note 2 that doesn't work.
One final request, can anyone please please please help me with a EFS Backup image (either TWRP or CWM) and the procedure to change the IMEI in the efs image so that I can change it to my original IMEI and then restore it into the phone just to breathe some life into the device. I'd really be thankful for that.

I have tried searching for many solutions, I even downloaded some efs image an d flashed it to the phone using ODIN but as a result it got me a new problem, FACTORY MODE. though i successfully got out of that but I still have the IMEI problem. When I search all I can find is HOW TO BACKUP AND RESTORE EFS and it works only if you had a backup or the Original Shipped efs (all of which I dont have).
Another solution I found out there is to use a Z3X BOX to repair the IMEI but very hard to find out here. so the only option I have left is the one I requested in my previous post. I hope anyone out there can help me

No one is going to give you a copy of there efs.
Youve tried odin it didnt work..
I tried helping you through kies that didnt work. You cant restore something you never had or deleted.
I know this sounds harsh but your gonna have to pay money to get your note running again like so many other people who didn't take the time to read the guides and tutorials before getting flash happy.. I hate to say it but youve learnt the hard way..

Service State Out of Service
I am using my note 2 N7100 for some time now.
And I just recently update to 4.1.
After the upgrade i am not able to use the messaging and phone app.
Though Network selection was set to Select Automatically, and there is a good signal, service state is still out of service.
FYI, IMEI is the same, original Serial number remains.
what can I do. the phone is out of warranty.
please help. tried different things, but nothing works.

Search for "ARIZAPatch" it will help. But it requires root access so you will have to root your phone. I used it on a Note 2 with a similar problem and now it works like a charm.

Hi,
I will like to know something, I have a samsung galaxy note 2 which I rooted. After that I had it unlocked.
The problem now is I am on a 3 network in the UK but now my signal bars are full but I cant make any call or receive any call.
When I try to make a call, I get a error message stating ( mobile network not available). Is it because I rooted and unlocked thats why I am not being able to use my simcard?
Please any help will do or do I have to send it to repairs because I have tried to root again but I have lost the SuperSu and other stuff.
Please help.

I have not installed any ROM, when I unlocked it everything disappeared I don't have SuperSu,Titanium backup and all the apps I installed.
I now installed triangle way but it doesn't work anymore.
I am thinking maybe it is only my 3network company who can properly unlock my device since it is now unlocked but cant use the same card I was using before.I tried to unroot but I found out that it will be better to root it again then try to unroot because the triangular away is not working on it now.

Or is it because I had rooted before unlocking? It just beats my imagination. I am also trying to root it again but it seems I am not being able to open odin again.
Is there anyone who can sort it out for me so I can pay if there is a price to pay because even my 3 simcard, is not getting the signal.

1.do you able to make emergency call?
If yes, device is likely locked and you need to unlock.
If your device was working fine before then try flashing stock rom for your carrier.
Another possibility is device is banned, usually happens if you purchased second hand and it is stolen
2.if you not able to make emergency call then
Check for imei
If imei is not displayed correctly like one on back of device, likely your efs folder get corrupted.

Thanks very much for your response, I have checked my IMEI at the back of my phone and the last 6 numbers/02 but when I checked with that *#06#, it is /01. I don't know if that makes such a difference. This wasn't the case when I first rooted the phone, but when I unlocked it, it all started, I don't get any signal at all, I am always getting the no signal sign on the top right corner. I also tried to root my phone again but I seem not to be able to open the odin application, I can't find any program to open it.
I want to send it back to the company but I have to reset the binary counter using triangle way but it says my phone is not rooted which is strange because I can download titanium backup but it doesn't work. I really need some help because I can't use my phone now.
What about first 15 digit when you dial *#06# ?

Hi,
Just explaining. EFS is kind of a folder that contains the IMEI number and other MAC addresses of WIFI or Bluetooth. What happened when you rooted and flashed a ROM is that the EFS folder has been modified. There are many reasons why this happens. So, changing a new SIM won't work. You would have to fill the IMEI number and the other MAC addresses to make phones calls and etc.,
Regarding whether to leave the phone with root or not, It depends on you whether you can make up a convincing story to avoid charges for re-instating the IMEI number back by Samsung.
You can change it to Stock if you want to, but Verizon can easily find out that you had rooted it since IMEI number won't be wiped by any other way..

Hi,
The first mistake you have done is that your phone model is not N7100. It is different for Verizon. That's the reason your IMEI number got screwed up when you flashed a rom of N7100.
The Fail in Odin is not a big deal as it might have been because there could have been two usb connections made or as you said changing usb ports.
Please verify whether the ROM supports your Verizon model before flashing.
Also, There will be still a counter and status that would indicate that you've rooted before If you want to reset these counters then search in the forum and you'll be able to find out.

You make out like resetting the counters is easy or something. It isn't and it's reasonable price for the app.
I suggest you go to the Verizon Note II forum next time unless you want to break your phone again.

I had similar problem. May be you haven't deleted it. The #4 comment is kinda right. By mistake I wiped my internal storage without backup or without writing down the baseband and build numbers. I had to flash numerous stock roms until I was able to make phone calls and receive msgs. Also on stock roms that were not for my phone the imei # was different from the one on the box, starting with 0049 or something.

@Bajanman sorry but that guide is useless for the LTE Note 2 variants. Look for guides from the LTE Note 2 or the North American SGS3 as your main starting points to try and solve this. (My T889V LTE guide has some links to those.)
One method I'd like to hear reports about is the reboot nvrestore one, I've seen it discussed mostly on a Verizon SGS3 thread, but nothing IMHO says it wouldn't be relevant for the HSPA/LTE versions either.
Edit: The EFS and other related partitions are of a significantly different layout between the dual-core SGS3 and the LTE Note 2 or GT-I9305. adb reboot nvrestore doesn't seem to do anything on our devices.
Good luck,
Darkshado
hey i didn't find anything...i've heard that there's some custom roms that contains EFs backup that can solve my problem is this true ? if so can anybody give me a link for one of those roms ? thank you
Try to flash with odin the stock rom that you got your note 2 with. It happened to me once where i flashed something and lost my imei. I didnt backup or anything. After i flashed the stock and unrooted my phone my imei reappeared and my phone worked again. BTW it was a att note 2. I found the rom somewhere at this forum. No rom contain you Efs i think(could be wrong) but each phone has it own imei.

ok thank you bro i will test and tell you if somthing wrong happens
i cant connect to kies with my phone ... and the stock rom didn't change anuthing...still imei null/null and base band is unknown
The method doesn't always work ...
And you may be facing a damaged device needing a repair service...
However ...it is worth a repeated try ...g

Hi guys, i seriously need help here. Please refer to attached screenshot.
I came here after flashing sokp 4.2.2 rom, and it prompted me an error saying encryption was unsuccessful. After which, i wasnt able to use my phone since then.
I tried to flash stock rom, and I end up with this. Please dont tell me to search the forums because Ive been to them countless times. I suppose this is a efs issue, because baseband and imei are unknown and I do not have a backup for it. Tried with the writing tool for imei, doesnt work as well.
Pls ask me for any info u might need/i missed out to help with this issue.
I think it's in the efs folder, you have to use a root browser and edit factory mode to off instead of on. It's been a long time since I saw factory mode so I'm not 100%

Thanks for your reply. But even if I off factory mode, will the baseband and imei be unknown?
I'm not sure but if it doesn't the 2 things that might be worth trying are, emergency firmware recovery with kies or mskips toolkit has a rescue package but I think you have to go to skipsoft.net now as the thread was closed

It's current value is "OFF"...u have to write "ON"...i know it sounds weird but that is the value. Amd if u don't have any previous back up of EFS then there's nothing u can do at home to bring it back. Same thing happened to mine and i got it repaired from a local shop for cheap...they used z3x box...the problem is my IMEI is correct and network works fine...but everytime i flash a ROM i have to take it to the shop and get the modem patched or else it doesn't connect to network. So go to Samsung service centre and get it fixed by them...they'll charge u more but their fix is permanent.

Alright, it seems like i have a backup of the efs, bt the nv_data.bin file is not included, and i read on other threads that this file is responsible for the imei and all? This backup is dated in aug2013, but it doesnt help in restoring my phone because the efs pro software doesnt see this as a backup file. Im actually looking for one of the thread that actually taught how to edit the nv_data.bin file, but no luck till date.
This thread might help

ok my phone's all fixed up now. If anyone is interested to know, samsung kies original firmware helped.
hello ,
yesterday i woke up to find my note2 not working saying insert sim card
and when i tried to check imei it says null null
i never tried to install rom or root my phone , i just bought it 2 weeks ago
i've searched all the forums and found that people only get that error when they try to flash their device but i didnt .. it just suddenly happened
would you please guide me to fix it ?
my phone is galaxy note 2 N7100 and it has 4.3 jellybean
I suggest you to take your phone back. I think it is a hardware problem. You can do nothing for that. If your phone was rooted and has a backup of your original efs partition (IMEI) only than it is possible to recover your IMEI.

that phone was shipped to me from dubai and it has no warranty .. i cant do that
Oh thats bad. You must find a service who has good knowledge about Android phones. Did you checked your phone after you received it. Maybe the phone was without real IMEI. So far I know the GSM prowiders allow a couple days to use your unregistered device.

hmmm
well thats bad
you haven't tried to root and flash custom rom at least if so if u have tried it is possible you might lose imei and which is why it is advisable to make an EFS back up.it could be a hardware related problem..try taking it to the samsung service center they are the ones who can really help you.
Try this solution: use Root Explorer enter to EFS folder, delete NV_DATA.BIN and NV_DATA.BIN.MD5. Reboot your device and check imei.

If device is shipped with broken seal on box then...
It's stolen by someone & sold him online.
& I think someone(frustrated Owner) knows & banned his IMEI via complain.and that's why he got null error while no reason at all.
It's just a guess.
