Ok fellas....for the ones who cant get this to work by flashing I will tell you how to get it to work. Very simple...
You need to open the zip. With either 7Zip on your pc OR a file manager like FX with root permission.
After you open the zip there is 2 files. You want to open the one named system. Inside that file is a media folder. Open that folder...
Now you should see 2 qmg files. You want to take those 2 files and replace the current ones you have now.
Go to system/media. Copy the 2 new files from the zip and replace the ones in system/media.
Reboot and your done.
Hit the Thanks button if I helped.

Alternative workaround to pursue: there is a way to use regular boot animation zip files instead of samsungs qmg. You've got to research this i dont do it myself. I just saw it somewhere. This way might suit you better.

Is there a way to do the opposite? To turn a qmg into png files?

To the best of my knowledge you would need proprietary Samsung software to modify .QMG file. Your best bet is to find a kernel or ROM with custom boot animation support and put the boot animation. Zip in the /system/media folder.

Hi mate.
Thanks for your advise. The ZIP file (folder system) have 4 .qmg files. I have copied all 4 files in the root\system\media and now the new bootanimation works perfect.

There is a way to create a qmg from Android without a PC. I heard that there is an app called qmg boot animation maker that works

[Q] how to make custom boot animation

Hello!
I have searched but have not found an answer that works, so here goes:
I can't make my own boot animation. Here are the steps I've taken:
1 started with animation downloaded from the themes & apps section (the animation works fine as is)
2 unzipped in root explorer and replaced the .png's with my own .png's, taking care to make sure they were the correct size.
3 rezipped the files (all files were unchanged except for own .png's)
4 flashed in cwm. Just a black screen on boot.
5 tried moving the bootanimation.zip file to system/media. Black screen again.
What am I doing wrong/missing?
Thanks!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
There are a couple of things that could be wrong. The first and most suspect is that when you re-zip the file, you are using some sort of compression; boot ani's won't work if there is ANY compression at all. I don't know if there is even an option to turn compression off with any of the android based zip apps. The second is that the new bootanimation.zip file is too large. I've had problems when using files over 20mb in size, be sure your .png's are optimized.
The best way to work with creating your own ani's is to do it on a pc, use 7zip (no compression), and AndroidSigner (at ppcgeeks) to create a flashable .zip. You can also use a program like DroidExplorer or MyPhoneExplorer to copy the bootanimation.zip file directly to system/media.
Awesome- thanks! I was using root explorer to rezip the bootanimation, so that's probably the problem. I'll try 7 zip and report back on the results.

I can't seem to get 7 zip to zip without compression. there's no setting for "no compression". Forgive my ignorance, but any tips on creating an uncompressed zip? (tried winrar too, but to no avail...

In your file manager, select the files/folders that you want to add to the zip. Right click on any of them, under the 7zip options select "add to archive". Once the 7zip interface opens, name your zip, and under "compression level" select "store".

[Q] Make a BootAnimation

Hi, everybody....
I've just edit a bootanimation.zip file, but It doesn't work. I use Nexus Prime bootanimation.zip, then I open it with WinRAR. I replace all *.jpg files that comes with Nexus prime bootanimation file by drag N drop several image file with .jpg extension. I also make sure that the file's name is same with Nexus Prime image.
After replacing, I send the new bootanimation to SD card, moving it to System/Media by using Root Explore, then Reboot my phone...
But, I don't see bootanimation while the phone's wake up...
Any solution??
Is the compression the same as the originals?
Sent from my LT15i using XDA App
Emmm.... I don't know about that... I've just replace the original image files with mine... Then just click "Ok". Am I wrong??
Hurm.
open original bootanimation using winrar,
make sure the file name and resolution that you are using same as the original inside the zip.
Now just drag and drop your file to the bootanimation.zip, it will overwrite the original file inside the. Zip.
Close zip and copy to sd, and place it in the right place. Set the permission if im not mistaken 6-4-4 or rw-r--r-- .
Now reboot and see if it boot using you custom animation.
But aren't bootanimation only in. Png format??

Hai Nujhum... Yeah, right... I've done it before... Same with what you say...
Maybe try using something like 7-zip. I know for fact that WinRar sometimes changes something in the header of the file and even though it's ZIP file not all un-zip utilities can extract it.

[Q] xperia play custom boot logo

I would like to know how to make a custom boot logo for my xperia play r800a what i want to do is after the sony erricson splash ball thing comes up after the SONY ERRICSON sign the rogers logo pops up which I HATE. So i want to change the rogers picture to a playstation picture like when the old psx roms boot up. I have gotten a picture put it in the right resolution and stuck it in the boot animation file without unpacking it this did not work the sony erricson stuff comes up but when my psx sign is supposed to it just show a black screen some help would be greatly appreciated
Unpack the bootanimation.zip open up the folder and find the image you want to replace.
Before you delete it, rename the file/s you want to replace it with, so it's got the same filename as the original.
Now delete original and copy new image/s over. Repack the .zip WITH NO COMPRESSION. And copy back to /system/media/

Download winrar, and use that, when you rezip it make sure you choose .zip not .rar and choose store from the compression menu. Finally make sure the .zip is called bootanimation.zip. Not bootanimation.zip.zip or bootanimation.zip.rar

listen i m telling u clearly what to do ...
u will need your stock firmwares 3 system files ..
framework-res.apk
systemui.apk
twframework-res.apk
u will get this three files in two location ...
Systemui.apk in system/app folder
twframework-res.apk & framework-res.apk in system/framework folder
u need to copy this three files from your stock rom .... then keep them in a folder in pc.
then go to google.com ... there search for uot kitchen
uot.dakra or something like this site will come... in that site u will see there is a option called kitchen ... click that.
then click on file upload option ...
on the right u will seee a option called upload system files... click that .. then select those three files on by one in that site fron your pc.
it will autometically be uploaded .
then on that page only ... look at left and u will see on the top there will be a option called " select flashable zip scripting" by default it will be MTD ... click on it and select Galaxy.
then see a little below u will see a option called " Theme chooser preview" select mdpi/idpi option NOT HDPI.
after complition of this ... click on summery ... and if u did everything correctly ... it will be.showed as green colour.
anywaz ... "click on submit to kitchen."
once u clicked on submit u will get a order code with some numbers ... copy that code somewhere ... after 5-10min click on pickups ... ur file will be there with that same order code.
DONT APPLY OTHER ORDER CODES...IF U APPLY OTHERS ORDERS ... AND FLASH IT .. YOUR PHONE MIGHT FALL IN BOOT LOOP .... SO DOWNLOAD ONLY URZ NOT OTHERS.
anywaz now after downloading ur file .. copy that file in your sd cards root folder ... not in any folders ...
then switch off your phone and start your phone in this combination keys ... (home+power+volume up) keep holding those 3 buttons until u see galaxy y young black screen ... release the.buttons ...
u will be in recovery mode ... there select apply update from sd card... then select the cwm zip file and mount that ... u will be in cwm recovery... there select apply update from zip ... choose the file u just downloaded and flash it ...
and then reboot.
if everything goes well ... after rebooot ur notification bar will be available.
hope this helps

Restore your UI to stock(framework-res.apk, twframework-res.apk & SystemUI.apk) DDLC2
So what you gonna do is:
1. Download the below attached "ui-restore.zip"
2. Place the "ui-restore.zip" in the root of sdcard.
3. Boot into recovery (switch on pressing "vol up + home + power" buttons).
4. Select update.zip from sdcard.
5. Select "ui-restore.zip"
6. Reboot

DC-MARVEL Bootanimation.zip [720p ]

British graphic designer Christian Tailor created this awesome animation of stylized Marvel and DC Comics heroes and villains, and now you can use it as the boot animation on your Android device.
It was later turned into default start up animation by Brian Roberts
HTML:
https://plus.google.com/+BrianRoberts
and later into a flashable zip by Ronald Valdes
HTML:
https://plus.google.com/+RonaldValdes
.
Now all I did was I took Christian Tailor's bootanimation which was 1080p and converted it into 720p which will fit perfectly on S3 or any 720p devices.
Here is the link to download,

Install Instructions:
1. Your device need to be rooted. It won't work if your device is not rooted. How to root? Please check online. I hope samsung device users have custom rom with root and not stock rom with root. I have no idea how it works in other brand android devices, so proceed only if it is similar process as you find below.
2. This is not a flashable file, so you have to copy it into your system/media .
3. Use X-plore, make sure you have root access. To get root access, press configuration. Under Root access, select superuser + mount writable. I only know how to do this in xplore, i don't know how it works in other apps. So sorry. I will let you know how it works in other apps.
4. Now go to root/system/media and you will find bootanimation.zip . Copy it to your internal/external memory.
5. Delete the bootanimation.zip from system/media.
6. Now copy the dcmarvel720pbootanimation.zip to system/media and rename it to bootanimation.zip .
7. Now reboot your device.
8. Now Enjoy.
[By the way, I really don't know if I was allowed to post this or not. If I was not allowed, please comment here, and also I am sorry, I will remove it as soon as possible. If I am allowed then thank you. Please support the original people who did it.]

In system/media, remove the previous boot animation. Either delete it or just copy it to your internal memory, but you will have to delete it in your system/media. Now save the dc-marvel bootanimation zip to system/media and rename it to bootanimation.zip
Now try rebooting. Hope it worked.

it only works if you use both root and a custom rom,
as said in the instructions, make sure you have given superuser mount writable permissiom. Either delete the bootanimation.zip from you system/media or copy the bootanimation.zip to your internal memory or external memory if available.
now copy paste the dcmarvelbootanimation.zip to system/media and rename it to bootanimation [make sure it is still in zip format which means it is .zip]
