Hey guys, I just rooted my gt n7100, when I flashed clockworkmod recovery I forgot to enable usb debugging on my phone. So I suspect it's because of that, phone is not booting into recovery mode. Is that the reason?
Can I reflash the cwm with usb debugging enabled this time? Or do I have to unroot and flash the cwm?
P. S: I can see super user app has been installed and the device is rooted and I have also installed rooted apps like titanium backup.
(I am running stock 4.1.2 xxdmg1 rom)

It won't matter about USB de bugging, you should have access to recovery regardless. To confirm, it's power + vol up + home. If that won't work, install ROM Manager app... it works alongside cwm and can even flash it for you if you if it's corrupted. Also has boot into recovery option. Good luck

Had him install Touch recovery via goo-manager, rebooted into recovery and wiped data/cache blah blah, install .zip file and gets an error
every CM10 based rom gives some sort of error
"assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "d2att" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "d2att" e:Error in /emmc/cm-9-20120720-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip (status 7)

Yes. Instructions can be found with a quick search.
Download mode -> ODIN to stock -> Put ClockworkMod recovery on SD -> Install CWM using stock recovery -> Happy flashing!

No. You don't use ODIN to flash cm10. Error 7 happens because of outdated recovery. Download ROM manager from the play store, install cwm through it and after its installed ...boot into recovery and flash cm10.

Ok, did it, and got the green pass light on odin and had him go back into recovery and ONCE AGAIN, back into the STOCK recovery.
I'm losing my mind with frustration!
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Also, why doesn't this work?

He rooted it I wasn't there when he did it.
It sure seems rooted it.. Super user is there and I already flashed a rom
But again, every CM10 based rom gives some sort of failure
and his recovery goes back and forth on its own from CWM to stock, its very strange
What recovery version does he have?

The one from goo-manager
Whatever goomanger puts on there.
The problem is, if he loads goo manager, tells it to download the recovery and reboots into recovery the recovery will there.
If he reboots a few times and then goes and reboots into recovery it will revert back into the stock recovery.
WTF!! lol
All you need to do is to install ROM manager from the play store and from it you can install the latest cwm recovery easily.

Yes, we installed Rom manager and when he clicks "flash clockworkmod recovery" he gets an error
I gotta wait till he gets home so he can tell me what the error is again
thanks
Ok I forgot, he doesn't get an error message when he goes to install the clockwork recovery via rom manager, he gets a message that he has to choose a phone and in that list there is no GSIII
which model should he choose ? THANKS
Yea so ok, something is seriously screwed here,
I had him flash the CWM recovery the third on this list
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28612095&postcount=558
Had him reboot into recovery and flash that zip, it was successful, I had him reboot into recovery from the touch recovery that we installed from goo-manager and he was indeed in the CWM recovery
Had him reboot the system, then again reboot into recovery from rom manager and sure enough it reboots into the stock android recovery.
Something is seriously wrong here.
I am totally at a loss
It has something to do with the flash counter. Since I'm not sure about it I would have him re root his phone using the toolkit and flash a recovery with the toolkit and see what happens.

Are you trying to root a kies/ota update? Canadian carriers put in an install script that removes custom recovery at every reboot.
Look for install.sh in the root of the phone's file system.

I have the same issue, can I just flash twrp without unrooting first and just flash using odin on top of my existing root.
I am not sure how a root on an existing root will work. Thanks
I have rooted N1705 and have same problem. I really would like to know what's this all about since this is my first phone with this kind of a problem. Only workaround for me was that i installed ROM Manager, updated CWM and flashed into it via the manager. The key shortcut did not work on either CWM or TWRP.

Yes its the 7105. And we are sure that we used the correct roms and cwm files from the correct section. rom manager also says that cwm is up to date but reboot to recovery doesnt work. it just shuts itself of. even with "adb reboot recovery"
Flash cwm via odin.

Hi, new to Samsung but not rooting flashing etc.
Owned flashed on HTC onex/ desire. Xperias etc.
I rooted and flashed using the tool kit. Made first cwm back up using tool kit.
I can see cwm files on sdcard but cannot open them. Try to get into recovery with keys. Get reboot the weird screen flickering up in lines but no recovery. Turns of or reboots. Same if I try to flash recovery img. From apps. Rom toolbox. Rom manager etc.
I have a new rom on phone to flash. Alliance I think. AM I right in thinking that it flashes a new recovery with it twrp?. Problem is I don't ever flash without nand back up. Any help appreciated. P's I don't have external sd to put recovery on do I need one
Cheers all

just brought mobile odin.
try to flash recovery. freezes almost straight away then powers off.
Mobile Odin is useful to have anyway. I had a similar problem when trying to flash CWM and decided to go with TWRP instead as I was looking to flash Alliance, like yourself. It works but sometimes fails to respond to the Vol Up + Home + Power button combination and you have to release the buttons momentarily 5 or 10 seconds after booting and then press that combination again. You could try that trick with CWM too.
Download latest twrp in tar format.
Flash via pc odin and phone in download mode.

well in case of philz recovery flash were u sucessful in getting philz recovery if not did u noticed this lines in ketan thread
Note :
normally, phone should auto-reboot into recovery.
If it reboots into android and your recovery remains stock, repeat above steps and untick "autoreboot" in odin. Once flash is done, keep pressing power button until it reboots (normally will go to recovery)
when in recovery, if you choose option "reboot system now" and you get "yes - disable flash recovery", select that option to avoid stock recovery overwriting cwm
make sure usb debugging enabled on phone and disable anti virus .

well u have downgraded your moedm and kernel which has resulted in Imei corrrupt if u have a efs restore or best take it to service center instead messing it up as there are ways but its better to throw your tension to service people now
