I shut my nexus 7 off last night when it had around 86% to conserve battery. I turned it back on this morning to see that it dropped nearly 10% overnight while OFF. How is this even possible?

That's a real stretch. I doubt anybody would see a drop of 10% just by booting up or restarting the tablet.

This happens to my HD2 all the time, remaining battery got changed after restart. Here is what I have discovered:
The shown battery percentage is almost always different after a restart, the difference is bigger if I use the phone heavily prior to the restart. Being a 2009 phone, almost any task is not easy for HD2.
I think it's because of how the OS reports the remaining battery percentage. I am guessing that OS get an idea of percentage from the voltage prior to booting, then decrement based on measured realtime consumption rate. But because the load on the battery is changing constantly and other factors, this lead to accumulated inaccuracy over time.
Think about this: if you car reports total fuel consumption of a trip based on accumulated measured realtime MPG, will that be as accurate as directly measure the gas tank before and after?
But a car can measure the remain capacity of gas tank at any time, why not the phone just measure the voltage of battery at any time to determine the realtime remaining capacity? I guess it's because when a battery is under load, it's voltage drops.
I did not google so all of this is just my guess and may just be a laugh.

What about the fact that GPS still broadcasts on a powered down device..like when the police say they can track a device that's turned off and the only REAL way to turn off ANY phone fully is to pull the battery...just a thought...

Sure sure it's with light use, but just the fact that it can hit 6+ hours screen time after more than a day and a half... sits pretty well with me.
No games, 30% screen brightness, 74 mins of calls, quite a bit of texting & whatsapp, 30 odd mins browsing, wifi 100%, sync on, only 1 widget.
aokp, lean kernel, undervolted, K6, extended battery.
Loving this phone!!!

NICE!!! Can't wait till my extended battery comes in.
Nice. I've had my extended battery for 2 days now and I am seriously impresses ed with it. It on my drive home I'm at 65% instead of 30%. I really think the extended battery should of come stock.
I got a similar 6 hour in airplane mode. I was watching a movie while roaming on vacation.
Verizon stock rom. stock battery.
Even stock SGN makes wonders with battery on Wi-Fi But still your stats are truly amazing

No, he didn't? Look closer on first screenshot. There is no sign of charging on those lines below the graph. Those places where graph line goes up are pretty normal and that doesn't mean device war charging.

Nah I didn't charge it at all, as the other guys pointed out. I remember my battery dropping to 4%, I then put down my phone and when I came back later on, it was reading 5%. I thought I was going crazy, but looking at the graph now I see it really did happen. It raised from 4% to 5% and stayed there for a bit before dropping to 4% again.
Anyway, I hope this wasn't a one off... it's not doing as well today with the same usage. We'll see...

Actually, the phone calls don't do much damage... You should be able to talk 11hours on this phone apparently...
I am very jealous. I am lucky to get 3-3.5 of web surfing.
With standard battery, you can get almost 11 hours screen on time (by doing nothing):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366878&highlight=max+battery
So, that's the limit
My experience with extended battery, 2000 mAH, GSM, I could get 4 and a half screen on time with 61 hours stand by time. For sure, it can go down to 6 hours or more screen on time if I down the standby time. All with stock ROM, stok kernel, un-locked
It is not difficult to achieve that knowing the limit, all depends on how you set it up and how do you use your phone.
Good day everyone, I've been using CM9 for awhile now and its been an awesome ride so far. Everythings been working almost perfectly. Recently, my batteries(stock one) percentage level's been Jumping up and down...a lot. For instance, I woke up to it (while off) having 100% on the indicator, turned it on, and it dropped to 51%, re-booted it to see if that'd help but it dropped again to 12%. This kindof things been happening for awhile and still with Alpha 2. Should I just get a replacement from sprint? Or is there a workaround.
Also, Music's apparently been taking up to as much as 40% of my battery usage even though If don't even have it activated at the moment. I've tried deleting the apk but it appears com.android..., I may just be being a noob, but any help?

Apparently calibrating the battery according to some Android Engineer does nothing. The percentage you have left is directly related to the voltage of the battery. So if you are at 3.95 volts, that roughly corresponds to 50% with a range of 3.7 to 4.2 Volts on the battery. What the OP saw is the bbb...battery boot bug. If you are rebooting and you are lower than 70% do it while plugged into something. If it does happen as Biggie stated, simply remove the battery for a couple of minutes and reboot. It is a false report to the phone.
This has almost always been a issue for me when I flash anything new. It stays that way for until I deplete the battery, connect and leave connected til 100%, deplete the battery and follow the same process for about 3 full cycles and then all is well! Leaving battery out for a breather sometimes helps but I installed an app that has a widget and it keeps the regulating kinda monitered so I can be a little more at ease. Will post directly after this. But I also noticed that there have been times when the readout was a very low battery red [but I knew couldn't be true] and after I put it in airplane mode and didn't bother it for 5-10 minutes when I looked back again, battery would be yellow almost back to showing good and my battery stats show the levels increased. I think cm9 can't handle too much at one time anyways
Edit: that app I think is called battery info. Its pretty simple =) hope it helps! L8rz
Edit2: that app is listed in market as battery widget not battery info

I'm talking like ten.percent in like ten minutes here. about a week ago I had the usb corrosion issue where the phone reported that it was still charging even though it was unplugged from the wall. it would blink charging constantly on the lick screen as if it was being plugged and unplugged. I took some advice and bent and cleaned out the USB port and this stopped the weird behavior, however my battery drain is horrendous now. I'm suspecting it's due to this same issue..
Any ideas?
It seems like it's time to calibrate your battery. I'm not sure which calibration method is the best in the market and I'm still testing on it. Sometimes 10% drop in 10 minutes is not strange and it could be caused by wrong calculation...
But the good thing is, at some point of time battery percentage would be increased even without recharging because it has more capacity than its calculation. It's the reason why we need the calibration. Especially battery calibration is recommended when the rom is changed.

Just take it to a Sprint service center, as long as they dont see any physical damage there is a fair chance you can get a replacement free of charge. (or $35 if you dont have TEP).
If that doesnt work, ask them if they put in a different battery to see if thats an issue.

I had the same problem and I took it to the Sprint store and got a new phone shipped to my house. No matter what I did, the charging light stayed on and my phone was destroying my battery.
Hello all!
I'm a brand new and happy user of the galaxy Nexus. Bought it two days ago and of course I started to play around with it quite a lot.
It was not new but it was used rarely, especially in the past 3 months. The phone itself is five months old.
I am just wondering if it is normal that the battery drains so quickly. Considering the fact that as a new toy i am using it quite strongly I still find it too fast eating the power.
The other thing is that could be in relation with this is that I think it is very strange seeing that something keep waking up my phone when it should be sleeping.
Let me attach a screenshot about battery stats. Please ignore and forgive it that it is in hungarian. The important thing is still visible.
What shall I do?
Thanks in advance!

How much screen-on time? With crappy signal and a LOT of awake time, I'm not surprised at all by 15hrs of total time.
You have an app (or a few) keeping your phone awake quite often. That alone will drain the battery. Try something like "Better Battery Stats" to see whats keeping the phone awake.
Yeah I forgot to mention that I had very bad reception for that time in the mountains. Screen on time was around 45 minutes - one hour.
How shall I look for apps not letting my phone going to sleep? Any free subsidiary for Betterbattery?

If your getting bad signal I suggest turning off your sync unless you need it, most of the time battery life is a result of the user or the apps they use better battery stats is a good app to find out what apps are keeping your phone from sleeping, also just a tip posting about battery life can get nasty responses good luck man

Judging by the wake bar, go to Latitude and in Location Settings sign out of Latitude. Google Now still works and you won't get your device constantly updating your position while screen off. I believe when you turn on Google Now it automatically signs you into Latitude as well.
Just trying to find out how to spy out apps using my phone than they should.

Ok now I am quite sure that it's the wifi that keeps waking up the device. After testing two days with wifi on and yesterday with wifi turned off it seems obvious.
I also find another topic where an other guy found the same answer... Very strange and very annoying.

I think the betterbatterystats is the best way to go as mentioned earlier. You might find that it's an app that is calling the wifi connection that causes wifi to appear neat the top of your stats at present.

are you rooted?
If you have recently flashed a new ROM, its common for the battery % to get thrown off. There are battery calibration apps on the market to fix it.
If you are running stock, then charge it for a full 8 hours minimum. Run it all the way dead, til it turns off. Then charge it a full 8 hours again.

Negative ghostrider. The battery calibration apps are 100℅ snake oil. They do nothing that unplugging the phone after a charge does not do. Also, wiping battery starts after flashing a rom is pointless since it not only has nothing at all to do with indication, but that is also a clean slate when flashed. The old advice to do this was based upon folds not understanding how both the operating system and the battery's fuel gauge operate.
Also, I wouldn't advise doing the second one too often as it shortens the life of the battery. Discharge to the point of shutdown is unhealthy for it and full charge/discharge cycles shorten its serviceable lifespan.
OP- It would seem that your phone is awake significantly more than it should be if you weren't using it all that much. Google Services should account for less battery use than it is, and idle should account for more. A screenshot of battery use with more details would prover to be very useful. Also, you can use the app BetterBatteryStats to get some insight as to what may or may not be misbehaving.

Just disabled it in maps. Is it possible that it turned itself on somehow? I haven't had this problem until today.
Also, would there be a reason why the stock messaging app font size is almost double the size? I ended up installing the 'alex' font to make it a bit smaller, but it's still big in comparison to what it used to be.
