I just got my nexus 7 FHD 32gb a couple days ago and I noticed the annoying ads on the home screen right away. I understand Google did away with ad blockers in the Google play store but is rooting the only way to remove those ads? I searched everywhere and haven't found answer on the new nexus 7. Thanks in advance.
I think you are referring to a Play Store widget on the home screen. Just touch and hold, then drag to the top of the screen to remove it.

I'm in the UK and found an apk of Google Earth.. it works ok
It's something to do with the rom not being verified or something? It doesn't show many paid apps.
PacMan was only free for G1 users it was $9.99 for everyone else.

Is anyone else experiencing a horrible screen flicker while trying to play Pac-Man?
I tried it last week and experienced the flicker described above so I uninstalled it.
On the topic of Google Earth, I found an apk for it. It was cool, but despite being shown as a 5MB+ file it ate up 20MB+ of storage. Didn't really offer anything over the regular Map app apart from the "Wow" factor so I got rid of that too.

Yep I get that too
Has anyone had any luck installing Google Now via these instructions? Or a similar way? I've got the stock ROM and rooted. I installed the Online/Offline ReekoTubbs version via recovery mode and set the proper permissions. I'm just not seeing Google Now at all. No idea how to start it or whether it's even installed. My SGS3 looks just like it did prior to installing GN.
Thanks.
I've not installed it this way as I am running a JB rom, but try opening your Google App. There is no special icon, etc. for it. Your Google app should become Google Now (but icon, name, etc. remain just Google).

No problem. I'm loving Google Now and I'm excited to see where Google takes it. Works about 1000x better than S-Voice for me as well.

Yeah I tried S-Voice a couple times and I hated it. Looking forward to trying out Google Now.

The best part was when S-Voice set an alarm for negative 5am and trying to delete it crashed my phone. :/
Has anyone else figured out a way to get Google now to work with double tapping the home button like with S-Voice?

Not sure how'd this would work on the stock ROM. You'd have to find a mod that allowed it, if such a thing exists.
I'm running CM10 and I've set long-press on the menu button to app switcher and long-press on the home button to be Google Now. Quite liking the setup.
The Google app kinda works like Google Now but it is like a stripped down version of it. Google Now is way better..

I am using stock ICS, so I don't know if this will apply, but I hated svoice, and used this as a solution...
I installed apex launcher, and assigned the home button to launch google voice search/actions.
In svoice: settings>launch s voice(uncheck)
In apex: settings>behavior settings>homekey action>launch shortcut this i directed to a shortcut to launch google voice search.
Next, in apex: settings>behavior settings> homekey to default screen(checked)
The behavior that this causes is: when on home screen, and I press home button, h google voice search loads. If I am not on home screen, home button brings me there. So, from any where on phone, google voice search is accessible by two presses of home button. First takes me home, second loads voice search.

I am using CM10 KANK (8/25). I can start Google now search but when I tried to use the same test sentences i.e. "what´s the weather?" my Google now search shows me a google result instead of showing me the weather pop-up as shown in those many video. What do I make wrong?
I don't get the point of having the "OK, Google" if I can't use it on any screen except when I actually open Google Now. I was hugely let down by the lack of "always listening" but what is the point of having this if I need to open up a specific program just to set an alarm with my voice?
How do I "OK, Google. Set an alarm for 30 minutes" without actually opening up the god damn Google Now?
I am so disappointed in this lack of feature or my lack of knowledge.
Purchase a Moto X if you want always listening.

Thanks, for being a great help and an asset to the community.
I am asking about how to get Google to use voice recognition without actually opening up the program and wasting time..
But thanks again............

Bro you lost me when you started talking about "god damn google now"...is it really that serious of an issue to bring your lord and savior into it. So I figured I would really get you riled up Smurphy And it worked lol.
Anyway see my thanks meter compared to yours before you bash for not helping the XDA community. Bye now....
Anyways, I had to put that guy above on the ignore list for both wasting this threads time and just being rude.
If you hold the home button, then swipe up it launches Google Now, so that will be how I access it until active listening from the home screen when the phone is on is one day enable or someone does an extension.
Thanks to anyone but the guy I had to block.

Do a google search for the apk. You should be able to side load it.
You can then use ok google on the home screens, but still nowhere else.
You can download the Google now Launcher (googlehome.apk) from numerous threads here on xda, any gapps zip download for aosp, and many places on the internet. That's the only way to do it and you won't get BlinkFeed either :/ otherwise gotta deal with the home buttoness

Thank you both kindly! I may do that if I find the "hold home, swipe up" can be improved upon.
Have a great day, and if I do side load it and test it I will replay back and edit my original post to include that and state how it works.

There is an application called open mic +. It is still in beta I think but it works amazingly. Check it out.

As far as I'm aware, it could only be done with certain apps (like the mic+ app linked in the above post) or from installing the Google Now launcher. That means you won't be able to run Sense though so if you really want to carry on using Sense you'll need to use one of the aforementioned apps instead.
It's a shame that HTC didn't implement such a feature to be honest, especially considering they made it possible to use Ok Google commands once on the Google Now app. I guess it's officially limited to certain Nexus devices though.

Thank you for this. I tried installing it and messing with it in many ways, but it only recognizes my "Okay, Google" about 10% of the time (I tried both engines) and even when it does recognize my "Okay, Google" from a home screen it takes about 5-10 seconds for it to launch, thus by the time it launches I have either thought it failed since it took so long or I said "Okay, Google" 3 times already by the time it launches.
Thank you anyways, it just doesn’t work well with this phone maybe. Pretty disappointing since the processor it has is able to do always listening or at least home screen listening.
xposed module
Not sure if you have root, but there is an xposed module for this. just search "ok google" in the xposed app and you'll find it.

Or simply use Nova Launcher which has added the ability to use "Ok Google" from any home screens in the latest update.

I have had my 10 for some time now & have of course charged it several times. Well last night for the first time when I plugged my 10 in I was presented with this new screen I have never seen before? Enclosed is the screen shot. I have used nothing but the orginal cord & charger it came with and nothing else. Before this screen started doing this it would just show the red led light and that was it. Can someone tell me what this is and if I can modify this somewhere in the settings? If I do change anything will I still be getting the fast charging that I have grown to love? Iam still stock running next launcher & a few zooper widgets is all. There is nothing within next launcher or zooper settings regarding this? Anyone have any idea?
Iam also wondering where the ads within this new screen come from as well if someone could answer that as well?
definitely a third party app adding lock screen ads. Es file manager or something.
Delete an app or two and keep going until it stops.

I just Googled it, and it looks like it could be a program called Z Camera? Maybe GoSMS? Go Launcher?
http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note-4/640251-new-speed-charge-battery-status-lock-screen-annoying-ads-just-appeared-gn4.html
Do you mean within Google play for recent updates? If so I have that set up to not auto update anything. I dont have es installed either. I use file commander. I uninstalled that but that didn't fix it. It's driving me crazy! I have gone through all my installed apps that I think this could be and I come up empty. Iam at a loss?
The only "go" app I have installed is next launcher but have from the beginning of me owning the 10. Again it will not auto update anything.

I'd try uninstalling it or read through that link I posted. There might be a solution.
Thank you for all your help. I figured it out. It was next browser doing it! Hopefully if someone else runs into this they will find this post and check anything that has to do with "go" apps

I just got the 6r and I can't for the life of me find how to discover the Google discover page that comes on the left page
Since I can't use a 3rd party launcher this is already a big enough annoyance to make me sell the phone tomorrow
I absolutely hate having more than 1 page on my home screen
what's Google Discover? is it the one where it tells you the news and can do google searches?

I mean... you can use a different launcher, but you can't use gesture controls with them. I've had too many oleds get the nav buttons built in to ever go back to use that again.
ah yes I know what you mean. It's the first thing I tried to disabled and found out you can't. I think the Youtube reviews don't reflect how pants this phone is at being a normal phone. It's amazing for gaming, sucks as a phone.

I honestly can't even make sense of why this is a thing
The only way I can figure out to get rid of it is disabling google...which then removes the ability removes google search
I tried that and it still shows on mine. I use duck duck go as a browser anyway. But then I found out that you can't do an app search like on a Samsung where you pull down the screen and it allows you to search for an app. You go in that news feed thing and type on google the app and then it shows it on your phone too.
