I made 2 of these one for home and one for office. This is a great start for someone that's wants this feature for cheap and not have to pay 20 $ minimum for any stand like this.
Needed:
3 big Boston clips
2 smaller Boston clips
1 bunch of zip ties
I put tubing over the handles to keep from scratching controller and phone.
Also you will notice I used a very small diameter but strong yellow twine.
Try it or something just as ghetto and post pictures here.

Forever as long as the zip ties don't break. I've been using it everyday for 6 months or so. No issues yet
I know a quick google search likely would find me the answer, but Ithought maybe it might be thread related to ask here anyways...
So the controller... it works? Meaning, how... bluetooth? Only PS controllers, or XBOX too?

I use an app called six axis controller. I downloaded it on the Internet. You can make touch profiles for different games. Yes it works with bluetooth. Not sure if they have something similar for xbox as I don't have an xbox. Works awesome though. Flawless

They don't have one for xbox because it uses proprietary micro$oft wireless. You can't even use them on Windows without buying a special wireless adapter. Can't even use it through USB.
Six axis controller app works great though for ps3 controllers. Been using it for quite a while myself. I think they make mini USB to micro USB cables and you can just plug and play, no root or app required. But then I suppose the game itself would need gamepad support.

I still have both controller stands I made and they both function perfect. So to answer your question yes or lasts as long as you want it to. I use mine for about 40 hours a month I calculated. Dang that's allot of modem combat 4. I blow people's heads of constantly using this phone controller setup only. I love it.

OMG! I LOVE THIS PHONE even more. Tonight I was able to connect my Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Rocksoul Bluetooth Mouse and am now doing my homework on my new tablet computer! Our Galaxy S2 really is an amazing device. Not only is it a sick phone, it allows us to have a personal computer in our hands ready to do whatever work we need at anytime.
This phone's value just went UP in my book. I got my Apple Silver Wireless Keyboard for 65.00 & currently use it with my Mac Mini.
The Rocksoul silver mouse set me back 25.00 tonight at Microcenter. I'm sure there may be cheaper alternatives however I can confirm both work very well and complement the phone very well.
Any questions please ask....by the way I posted this from my Apple keyboard!
The only caveat is that the phone allowed me to pair 2 devices at once. I had to unpair my bluetooth earpiece to get my mouse to pair up.
I'm sure there's a work around out there...for now I'm happy I'm able to do my homework on my phone it doesn't matter

Now, we need a keyboard app that once installed and selected, the on-screen keyboard will stay hidden. i remember back in the days before Android, with my Windows PDA, they had a small keyboard program that when activated will prevent the on screen keyboard from popping up when you needed to type.
It seems something like that should be out there in the market. i havent found it though.
Edit: i think i found one -

That one works on Android too. So does a lot of others, including Wii controllers, Xbox controllers, PS3 controllers, etc.
I use an Xbox360 controller on my Galaxy Tab, and a Phonejoy controller (which is made for Android) on my S II. Use it with a DIY S II holder I made for it:
that is an 'icontrolpad' and can be used for our sgs2

yes i know this, i owned this one some months ago, and let me say: DON'T BUY IT
it's only cheap plastik. yes, there is an adapter for quite all phone models, but it's very unconfortable, buy a psp if you want to play seriously on the road.
if you are only a casual gamer, virtual touch controls are enough, and on the beautifull touch screen of gs2 it's better than crappy physical controls.
listen to me: for casual gaming use touch controls on your phone, for REAL GAMING there are pc-ps3-xbox-wii, in the middle psp-nds (for kids)
Anyone tested OnLive controler ???
It looks like great to use because the phone is attached to the joypad but i think it is quitte uggly.

I use the PC wireless adapter plugged into my Gaalxy Tab 7.0 Plus via USB. USB/BT Joystick Center for the setup, and through root and the joystick2touch setup it gives compatibility with pretty much any game that has touch buttons.
How do you do it mate ? Can you please explain this step by step ?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
This is sort of the thing that you shouldn't be doing if you can't read your way to how to do it on yourself, simply because there are so many different ways it can not work, but ok. You install USB/BT Joystick Center, and if you have root, the joy2touch addon. You make sure you've enabled USB/BT's USBjoyIME fake keyboard in input settings of your device, start the app, and plug in your x360 wireless adapter via USB. You give it permission to use the USB input, swithc to the USBjoyIME "keyboard", turn on the xbox controller, pair it the way you pair those controllers, select the controller in the app. Test that buttons show up, and that's it for non-root setup. You then program buttons normally in whatever app you use. If you have root, you can start the touch addon from within the main app, and when in-game, hold 4 fingers on the screen to enter touch edit mode. You then press a button and click on the screen where you want it to go. That programs it to send the device fake touchscreen input data when you press the button
Note that I do this on a Galaxy tab, not the S II. I just mentioned it in passing and actually use a phonejoy on my s ii
Thanks mate ..i am gonna try this once i am free.

Have you guys tried the sixaxis app with a ps3 controller? It lets you setup 'touch profiles' where you can map the buttons to anywhere on your screen. You can virtually play any game with it, but works the best with emulators.

That question suggests you're not really aware of how game controllers function on Android...which is perfectly understandable. I'm working on a guide to game controllers on Android that will be done tomorrow or so, it should help clear up a few things
I have the iControlPad (OP's post) and I can say that it works beautifully with my S2.
I had to drill a hole in the retainer clip in order to make it hold my phone+case (It will hold a caseless i9100 without issue otherwise), but other than that it is a wonderful piece of hardware. Makes playing the Kairosoft games a breeze!

The first 2 things I ever built. Sadly, I somehow ended up losing this world. There's a hidden tunnel connecting the cabin to the main building. The door to the tunnel is hidden behind a book case. It opens using a hidden button connected to sticky pistons which pull the book case back. My stupid self didn't write out the schematics of all the connections and how everything worked, so now I gotta go back and figure it all out again...oops, lol.

Nah, it didn't cost that much time though. Just went on that server to socialize here and there, you'll attain some resources over time and then you try to build with it. As you see, everything is built with very cheap materials like sand and wood.
You just need a plan on what you want to build, and if you have the idea and don't need to remove or rebuild parts, a giant building will be finished in 2 hours.

Trying to get my hands on the white Nyko, but so far release date was moved to 11/15/2012. Can't say that in all my time searching I found much of a smaller one. There is one on Kickstarter that is pretty small and fits as a keychain, but the problem is that the games have to SUPPORT the controller. So far, Nyko is the only controller I've seen that wont require this since it will have the options to customize touchpad, button control, etc. to the controller itself. IMO wait for the Nyko controller. The black Nyko is out right now.

not small and may not be cheap depending on what you may already have.
PS3 controller and a Gameklip - hard core awesome.
you can also use a USB PS3 controller or Xbox USB controller (native support IIRC) get a used one and chop the cable to short it with a $2 ebay OTG cable.

Well I managed to get the play pad pro a few weeks ago at a GameStop nearby and I gotta say its a solid controller but the compatibility isn't that great...it will work for emulators and games meant for gamepads like dead trigger but a ps3 controller u can map the touch screen to gamepad...a feature that nyko says will be in the future updates of their app. Their app as of now sucks but the controller has some dev potential ...honestly though I kinda wish I went with a ps3 controller where the dev is already here

After reading lots of review, I got this one http://dx.com/p/2-4ghz-wireless-dual-shock-joypad-controller-gamepad-for-pc-3-aaa-44217?item=14 . It's cheap and high quality. I have it for at least half a year. kids play with it a lot, without any problem.
Robust enough so it does not break. feels also heavy enough in your hands to give good user experience.
not need to install the driver - Plug and play worked on Win 7.
identical to brand-named joypads.
Thanks! Do you know if the regular playpad works the same way?

Just saw this on ebay.
Looks an awful lot like the Gametel with 2 analogs and a better dpad.
I quite like my phonejoy, though for some reason, the price has gone up (by $15) since I bought mine.
That's because shipping cost is now included I think.
I still wonder what I'm going to buy. I already got the Gametel but it feels cheap and really lack precision.
I play a lot of emulators and need something great for fighting games.
I don't feel really confident about Sony gamepad.
Their Dpad wasn't good back in the days, hard to make 2x quarter circle and stuff like that, but I never tried a PS3 controller though (are they really different from PS1 / PS2?).
I like the Logitech Dpad you can find on old RumblepadII and the F310-710 series.
But compatibility seems to be not that great from what I could find (few infos) and using the usb port (need to charge? stop playing ).
Phonejoy Dpad is great? you play fighting games?
this is pretty sweet i think im gonna buy one
Since I don't play often, and when I do it's just emulator stuff, I just use my Wiimote.

If it an issue of not being able to reach spots of your Note2.. use Nova launcher and configure it with swipe actions to do things.
I agree.. redundant.
Plus.. do you see how HUGE this case is?? it adds a massive hunk of case below the phone. The pics are very cleverly making that somewhat transparent so it doesn't look like the phone is any bigger.. but damn.. that's HUGE.

But in all seriousness, you gotta agree this is one of the most original and innovative accessories we have seen for Note 2 so far. Also, making case longer has its advantage to lower your grip for index finger to have more room to control the pad. What I would add to this since micro-usb connection already in place, a built-in external battery and to offer a custom case with some bumper/lip protection.
I keep coming back to this to figure out what problem it solves. with one hand I can reach just about everywhere on the screen that I would under normal non-gaming solutions.
Just not the right product for me.
But if you only have 3 fingers or something, great idea!
For those who are curious, this is basically the answer to the Pantech Vega 6, a korean only phone. I'm sort of surprised something like this came out so soon for the Note II, here it is. You may see more similar stuff like this being common as phones get larger and larger.
here's a short ad for the pantech vega 6, but all in korean. http://youtu.be/QwYhG4E3iiY
