Hello guys.
Today I'm on XDA to make a fool of myself (sort of) because my HTC One V is now water damaged. If you want to know what happened (lol), I went on the lake yesterday to do some wakeboard and I forgot my beloved phone (I am an idiot) in my "swimming pants" --> I don't know how to translate that in English.
Here's what I did so far:
-Immediately after coming back from my fail trip, I tried to power it on with no luck. Therefore, I dried it with a hairdryer for maybe 5 minutes. Still no luck.
-I put it in a small container filled with rice and left it on a shelf for the night. Tried to power it on this morning but no living sign.
-Dried it again with a hairdryer but this time for 10 minutes with the engine set to "warm" instead of "light warm". I put it back in the small rice container and I plan to keep it there for maybe a week.
Was my procedure correct? Is there any chance to play with my One V some day? I want your advices and opinion.
Thank you very much everyone.

Oh yeah what a nightmare it might be! However, I just saw a video of a guy who, before putting his one v into rice, submerged it in 99% alochol to clean all the corrosion as well as drying water quite well. I'll give it a try and then put it back in rice for 2 days.
If you have the tools you may want to take all the cover off and dry it well in rice. You can find 2 disassembly videos on YouTube

Well I tried everything, from Alcohol 100% (took from an hospital's laboratory) to my car's dash under very warm sun, nothing worked. I think it's safe to say that my One V is dead.
So I think that it is still under warranty (although I'm not sure) and I want to use my last resort: send it to HTC. You guys previously done this? How does it work?
EDIT: water damage is not covered by any warranty. I will have to buy a new phone. This is very frustrating but the only one to blame here is me. As a college student, I do not have much money for that kind of stuff :S I'll take a look at the Lumia 520 from Nokia WP8, which is not very expensive (150$) and excellent for it's price. Windows Phone 8 is, by experience, 6x less laggy than Android and still delivers a better look with lots of functionalities.

Nexus 4 is an awesome phone, from the design to the functionalities. It's still Android, but with its hardware capabilities I'm pretty sure it's a good phone. Will look at the price, it's the most important matter in my case.

Even if there was a slim chance of getting it back alive the dampness you've made inside the phone by using the hairdryer might have finished the phone off.Get started on looking for a new phone.Don't get fooled by the Nexus 4.Go ahead and grab the one mini or s4 mini, both are pretty good and mini isn't that mini.Or if you're into Windows Phone, I strongly suggest Lumia 620 as the cheapest yet good WP phone, or 920 if you have the money. If you don't like Nokia, HTC 8S is a pretty solid phone for it's money. And if you're an avid music listener, you're gonna love it as its output is pretty loud and clear.

What's up guys, I recently dropped my G2 in a puddle of water,
I was wondering if it was a good idea to get it fixed by HTC or if you guys have any other recommendations of G2 repair companies?
You should have taken the battery out ASAP and then just leave it out and unplugged overnight. It will be fine.
I did take the battery out, but the LCD has a greenish hue, the wifi is unresponsive, and the haptic feedback is off. Does this mean I need to get all of these components in order for it to work?
Take the battery out and put it in a tub of rice.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
If it was already submerged completely and the tub of rice doesn't work, one more last ditch thing you can try is to submerge and rinse it out in a bucket of CLEAN (ideally distilled, at a minimum filtered) water.
If there were minerals (or other contaminants) in the water/liquid it was submerged in they could still be on the circuit board, the clean water might just clean it off.
Of course after you try this you need to let it dry for at least 24 hours then submerge it in rice for another 24 hours.
(The rice will absorb the water)
My boss once dropped his blackberry in a toilet and used this method, he did not use rice though, tried it after a day of drying and it didn't work, tried it again 24 hours later and it still didn't work but on the 3rd day the device came back to life so he called it the "JesusBerry" for the next ~year until he upgraded.
BTW you are probably screwed, so don't get your hopes up.
Yeah, ideally you should let that thing dry out for more than 3 days. I know we all "need" our phones, but if you want it to work properly, you're just going to have to wait. I dropped my BB in the toilet, took the battery out, rinsed it, and let it sit. I was impatient and tried to use it the next day - it was all messed up. Three days later, it started to function, but there were a lot of glitches - and I mean a lot. Not until a couple of weeks was it functioning as it should. If you are under warrantee from HTC or have phone insurance, I suggest you just send it in.
You should have left the bb in the toilet where it belongs.

Hey now, that was a low blow =P Former Berry Addict myself turned Android Addict =D
Like others have said, patience is key. The last thing you want to do with a wet device is try to run power through it. Take the battery out, let it sit in a warm, dry place for a day or two, then transfer into some rice and see what happens on day 3 or 4. You may still be out of luck, but worth a try.
I had an old Sony Ericcson dumb-phone years ago that I took on a long bike ride on a hot summer day in my rear jersey pocket. After 4 hours of riding and soaking in my sweat it was toast. Used that method and in 3 days it was alive and kicking again =D
Good luck! Maybe you'll end up with a Jesus-Z =P

I'm also coming from a bb phone. That thing was a pain in my balls. Constantly freezing up,not enough memory, took centuries for the thing to boot up & the list goes on & on. Not that I'm bitter about it or anything, just saying. It had it's problems. Sorry if I offended anyone.
Everyone can hate on blackberries but one thing is for sure: they have kick ass battery life.
And that's the only reason why I would get a blackberry. Especially for those camping trips without electricity..

Well this was ~10 years ago and at the time a BlackBerry (957) was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
this is a horrible day for g2 users....R.I.P lmao
Yeah, the BB was a pain in my ass too, but whoever said the battery life was awesome is right. I didnt have a data plan with it, so I never used it to its capacity. Also, If you'd like your personal info synced to your computer only and not Google, then the BB is where it's at. But anyways, did this guy ever ay what he did with the phone?
I resently had my phone dropped in water. My screen seemed a bit off in color. I removed the battery and placed the phone on top if my cable box for a day and it was fine after that.

Ugh, sorry to resurrect this thread, but did that fix it for you? My g2 decided to take a bath in the toilet and the very first thing I did was take the battery out, dry it off with toilet paper as thoroughly as possible (including the sim card, memory and headphone jack slots) prop it with with the keyboard apart and on its side to maximize airflow in front of a fan. I'm going to go to sleep with it like this and hopefully it will turn on tomorrow....
Aha... After my first phone fell in some water, I never ever brought it near anything that could be damaged by water. Lol an advice, don't ever bring your phone when your using the bathroom... leave it on the bed. So yea I paid a lot for my G2 and don't want it f**ked up you know.

Geez, that do you do with your time when you're sitting on the toilet?
Hey guys!
i bought a DHD 1 month ago, i was pretty satisfied with it!
but one day the screen had "layers" of fat on it, so i wanted to clean it..
i used a normal house window cleaner on it.
sprayed it on the screen arround 30 CM away from the screen and i wiped it off
the screen was as good as new!
but one ouhr later i noticed some darker spots on the screen!
i didnt accually care.. i thought it would dry away .. but it didnt (the spots didnt spread either.)
but the next day i was listening to music, then i noticed that the volume keys didnt work (the volum + key is frozen) so the music was always turned on maximum.
so i think the cleansing fluid made my phone wet from inside... is it a way to fix this?
(ive already sendt it in to a workshop they refuse to fix it because its not in the warrnty)
How much had you actually paid for your DHD? And you seriously thought you would save a fortune by NOT buying mobile screen cleanser??? I salute your decision mate

There has been talk of putting your phone in a bag of rice to remove the moisture. Another would be using kittly litter but I'd go with the rice idea.

Sorry gotta post in English as it it's the rule. I do not know if you can buy parts of it (which you can i guess). But then the problem would be replacing it. I saw some advertisements about guys who fix mobiles on finn.no back sometime. So you might want to check there.
Btw, it has not passed a year since DHD was released and you say there is no warranty? That surprises me even more. If warranty is void because of the custom ROM, flash the original RUU and send it back in.
The best bet is to dry the phone out as much as possible, as suggested above. I would place it 10-15cm above a radiator, so that it gets plenty of heat, but not too much. Take all the covers off so that the heat can enter as much as possible.
Moisture is the first thing they look for, which obviously voids warranty. I did the above for an iPod that got wet in a downpour and stopped working - and they exchanged it for me . But this was only rainwater.
If the goo from the spray has stuck electronics components together, that will probably invalidate the guarantee - BUT at this point your best bet is to get someone qualified, who can actually clean recondition the phone, even if it costs you money. As it stands, your phone sounds worthless, so if it can be functional again, that is a necessary cost.
Imagine, you may see goo inside the phone that you know that you should remove, but how are you to know if any components are failing and need replacing? A tech service centre does this many times a day.
At least, they should give you an estimate, so you can decide whether to go ahead.
*****************UPDATE****************'
ok.. heres the thing..
sorry for the poor explenation.
i rapped the phone arround a dry towel and sat it uppon a radiator untill it reached arround 60 degrees Celsius.
im now able to turn on the phone, but because of the volume key fail, its only booting on Hboot and nothing else, and im not able to navigate unless i remove the battery cover cearfully and press the volume keys as hard as i can. (it would only mess up the phone over time)
i think (hope) its only a tiny error that can be fixed by replacing the buttons (if its possible
i'm sorry to hear it. it takes time to remove the moist inside the device. maybe you can do your way on drying the phone more frequenly ( make sure the phone is turn off ). i hope your DHD will become normal again.
I get annoying black box warning popup from my network service provider....
How to disable it??? See attached file

Hi!
I dropped my phone a bucket of water today. Got it up quite quickly and dryed it with compressed air. It turned it self on and off during a period, but now it seems to work fine. But now I have moist behind the camera lens. Any tips for removing moist there?
Leave the phone (Switched off) in a container full of uncooked rice in a warm area. Should do the trick.

Turn the phone off completely from fastboot and put it in a bag of rice, sealed up for 3 days. Do not turn it back on until 3 days have past or you will further damage your phone.
Hello
I have the same problem, but worse. I dropped my OneX in a stream of heavy rain water by the road and its been in the water for about 10 minutes while i was searching for it all over. I was glad I found it and in the haste and panic because its just a couple of weeks old,i pressed the power button,to find it working alright, then the signal reception cut off,i unlocked the screen, turned the airplane mode on. I could do all this and then it went off. I took the Sim out, rushed home, immersed it in a bowl of rice. Would that do? Please help

The most important thing is to NOT power it on again, not for atleast 3-5 days, i'd let it be off for 5 days, in a bag of rice standing on an element(the heat stuff you have in every room). If you turn on the phone before it's all dryed, you will probably damage the internal hardware, you know electric stuff doesn't like water that much.

Well Ive called up the HTC support and they asked me to go to the center where they will diagnose it and tell me whats what.
All i can hope now is that they dont reject for service on my face
The problem esp. with the HOX is that since the battery is sealed in the unit, its not easy to disconnect when needed. So by the time one realises that its been under water, damage might have already been done as the circuits still get a charge from the battery. So like others said, its better to leave it alone in a bowl of rice for a day or so and pray.
Lets hope HTC do the needful and fix your phone...

Hello! I went to the HTC service center after having the OneX in rice for 36hrs. The guy said they cant open it here and so it has to go to the headquarters of India for service and said he'll get back to me in a week or so. Upon asking he told me that a smiliar water damage issue came up to them and when they sent it to the Headquarters, the Head sent a new phone altogether to the guy. Now I have a bit of hope. Do you think i can?

My missus dropped her iPhone in a bucket of bleach, so it was found 3 hrs later, had to rinse it with water, strip it down, get a tub of rice and put the parts stripped down into tub, the rice draws all the moisture out of the parts. Put it back together after 48 hours and after 1 week everything on screen was A okay, good as new. Always worth doing this yourself to save Money, and insurance claim rise.

You could try a factory reset, but strange things happen from water damage.
My old Sony Ericsson worked fine, except for the fact (after I dropped it in a pan of gravy) that the gsm aerial only had a weak signal. Everything else was normal..
Could try silica gel, but there could be corrosion (you can't always even see the corrosion) from minerals/deposits in the water, which is causing a short circuit somewhere, causing the problem.
Unfortunately any water damage automatically (to the repair centers at least) means it's BER (beyond economical repair) so if you can't fix it from it drying out (ideally give it at least 3 days or even more in the rice or silica gel) the only option really is to buy a new one, or claim on insurance if you have cover.

the review says its not original. i'd steer clear personally.
A bottle of water exploded in my bag, and now my tablet looks like this:

What can I do to fix this? Open it and wipe it? Bag of rice? It looks really bad.

I had a similar situation wz my sony ericsson mobile, I opened it and let it takes its time to completely dry and then it works just fine .. good luck
Power it off fully, if not already. Open it up, if you can manage (and stomach it). Dry up what water you can (be careful not to damage anything). Do the bag of uncooked rice trick, dry in a warm (not hot) area for a few days if you can. Then try to power on.
When devices are exposed to water, its totally random whether it will work correctly or not. It might function perfectly, it might not work at all, or it might work but some things may be screwed up. Or it might work fine for a while, and then just stop working. It all depends on how much water got inside, where it went, it if caused a short circuit or corrosion inside, etc.
My wife dropped her iPhone 5 in the toilet pretty soon after its release. She put it in a bag of rice, and took it to the Apple Store, where the Genius Bar tech took it apart and dried it as best as they could. Its been working fine ever since.
so i attempted to open it by following instructions i found on this site, only to shatter the screen completely, along with the buttons on the side, and my heart. :crying::crying:
it's now a $400 paperweight.

That really sucks. I'm genuinely sorry for your loss.
Taking apart these devices is not for the faint of heart. Some people can do it like its nothing, but I learned long ago that I'm personally not good at it. You have to be really careful, as you have seen there are a lot of ways to damage the device in the process.
It may have been toast from the water damage anyway. At least you can tell yourself that!
Man, that sucks, but as stated above, that thing was a gonner as soon as it got drenched. It was only a matter of time.
When I have all my electronics charging on my desk sometimes my friends will set a cup of water coffee whatever on that same desk and I look at them like hey man what the he ll move that now. I never let liquid anything near my stuff and actually am paranoid as heck about it. Like I just said. I dont even let them set drinks within 5 feet of any electronic. Im sorry that sucks majorly man the note 8 is the perfect tablet im sorry once again

Repair the Screen Damage
Probably Water is under the screen surface. Like the iPhone 5 here. Problem with all non-Waterproof LCD-Devices, lucky S4 AMOLED!
I want to buy a Note 8.0 WiFi+2G+3G+4G too. My Nexus 7 actually had no screen damage even if it was Underwater for about 56 Seconds!
FULL STORY:
(D11.M07.Y2014)I do the Backup to Restore some Lost files with IsoBuster, i wanted to move some Files to the Computer and then all the Non-Root files were somehow NOT THERE... ALL REMOVED AND DELETED! I've been so angry, that i Recorded an Underwater Video with the Nexus 7, it did Survive for 22 Second at 3,4 Metres depth but i could hold my Breath for 56 Seconds - damn, almost a(bout a) minute!
Now, 20143008 the UnderWater Damage is finally Repaired.

No Water Under (the) Screen.
[QOUTESENTENCE]I still want to have that (super-attractive) Note 8! The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 WLAN WiFi 2G 3G 4G LTE 32GB was a €460€ dream tablet that time. Now it is only 189 € with my loved Android 4.1.2! (Hint:It would make sence to add the tag „Note 8" to your tàgs.)[/Qu0tesntence]
But The Hardware of the tablet seems still to work.. ...
Trust me, 92% Working Chance:
1.Put the Tablet into a Temperature-Resistant (not Plastic or something that actually melts... ) Container filled with rice. The Container can have a shape of whatever but your Note should fit into it.
So.
First read to avoid misunderstandings:
Put the Container with the Device on a Stove (E·Stove is more Recommended than a Gasstove. But a Gas-Stove will probably work too.)
BUT...
Set the Stove ONLY ON LEVEL 1 ≞ 40°C or 107,024000 °F
wait about 20 hours and see what's happend.
The same trick once repaired my Nokia 6220 Classic before it was NanoCoated (read story below) that i did buy on the release date in July 2008 . Since February 2008 i've been sure to buy the 6220 Classic.

Interresting Story
A (my one) Nanocoated Nokia 6220 Classic Survived since ~²Yrs Underwater, still works! (I switch on every 3 Months or so, battery around 60-70% still left since two years. I expected the Battery to require a charge every 5 Months in rare use cases and Discharges very slowly when not in use, i expected 8 Months with non use!. Now i did turn on the 6220 every all 3 months on and after 2 years, WONDER! STILL AROUND 60-70 % LEFT!) Who the hell made nanocoating? Thank you, whoever you are! I did the same with a solar calculator (eBay.de ArticleNumber: can't remember right now, i'll post if i'm able to.)

IF THIS (still) DID NOT WORK, THEN try putting your Note 8 into a container with destilazed (destilled; destillized ) Water and try those steps agian. (destilled)
If that again does not Work then try Teslanol Testanolôl (also-called: „isopropyl alcohol", put your device into this liquid for 20·30 seconds and see if it works agaian ... !
This iso-alcohol is about ~99% pure Alcohol but well... it will actually not etch away the hardware and the contacts (not your digital phonebook but the electric physical contancts!)as you probably thought!

That Iso-Alkohol-Type is 99% Pure alcohol and 1% [destilled] water.
BUT that does not mean, that this alcohol will replace the destilled water.
This „destilled Water", that what i mean in the last recnet post is the 100% pur destilled
„water for clothe flat irons for cloth and so on."
But i said that you're use it for the Note 8.
Just to wash out some dirt out of it.
