Please vote if you think moderators are being unfair to people on this forum ?
"I hope for any moderator to not close my thread if you believe in democracy and you think you should hear what people want to say"
Democracy.. in forums? You're joking, right? There's no entitlement to one on forums, and you specifically abide to rules set by the forum.
How is a HOX subforum the place for a complaint like this anyway? Also, you've been asked to message mods privately, if you have problems with them. If you can actually make a solid point, they'd likely be justful.
No, I do not think they are being unfair.
Thread closed. XDA is not a democracy.

Hello, i wonder if you can grant with moderation priviledges to Recognized devs???
I come from LG Optimus One forum, and as im reading here theres not even a moderator for our forum...
(I wont apply to become a moderator since i dont have time and i've never been a moderator before, so, next...)
Anyway, devs threads are flooded with spam and users askin the same questions again and again and spamming again and again... Old moderator "Zecanilis" performance wasnt good as well (forum was the same with/ without him)...
So i wanted to know if you can grant recognized devs from my forum (like francisco.franco, ciaox, mik_os, andy...) the power to moderate at least his threads...
thx in advance
PS: crap posts are increasing!! --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1231440
There was recently a recruitment drive for new mods and if that forum currently does not have an fsm assigned then I'm sure one will be shortly.
Check the link in my sig for a comprehensive list of forum mods to see whether one is assigned to your devices forum.

A hero???
Hello??? someone reads this??? is conantroutman the only one there?? hello????
In the meantime:
Striking news: SPAM BEAST TOOK OUR FORUM AND THREATENS WITH EATING IT!!!... Wheres is the hero when we need one (or a bunch [i.e Recognized Devs])

Please, we need an active moderator . It is becoming unbearable amount of post about questions that were answered many times, other fights and other spam among other things is in the section of the P500
There is a discussion about that between recognized devs and xda staff... However, conclusion is that RDs can't have these permissions because the abuse is possible - e.g. devs removing bad comments and leave only the glorifying comments and make his work a masterpiece. I can't speak in name of xda staff but I hope it'll be solved somehow, but the problem is that it's hard to find acceptable solution for everyone.

Well, its that or spamming... and certainly not all RD's have this glorifying attitude...
Also if they r granted w/ powers just to manage their threads that would not be an issue since general forum exist, reports functions exist, and it would be easy to track a bad developer and bring his work down...
Also the fact that spam users are in a much bigger proportion than RD's...
IMHO...

I agree. The lack of an active moderator is the real problem. Giving the RD this responsibility would cause more harm than good.
I found out in the Mods list that we can PM the Senior Mods for reporting for problems, as there is no one assigned. Let´s do so then.

It has always been the case that moderators who are also developers are not allowed to moderate their own threads.
This is a clear cut conflict of interest.
Bottom line is that RD's will probably never be given such priviledges as that would contradict long standing forum rules.
In other news.....
I'm going to PM MikeChannon (forum admin extraordinaire) and volunteer to help you guys out.
Watch this space.
Thank you Conan, yes, we are hoping to fill Moderator vacancies in a week, maybe two. The Committee that sifts through Moderator Applicants has had an unprecedented number to look through in the last round. Normally we get maybe 20 applicants, but in the last round we got 270 and it's not surprising it's taking longer to process.
Each applicant's posting history, helpfulness and other more general abilities have to be examined carefully and although we know some forums are having to be watched by Senior Mods at present, we think this is better than rushing in Mods who have not been checked thoroughly.
In addition some improvements to help Users report problems more easily will be rolled out soon, so please don't feel we aren't interested or don't care. In the meantime, you can still use the existing reporting system and it will still be seen by Senior Mods even if no Forum Mod is allocated.
Does anyone know?
Shaky153 did not write any msg and closed the thread !?
so will it never work?
did he quit on it?
he sounded so "it will be done soon" and now everything seams abandoned ...
He closed the tread.... Simple

No wonder, some of the people were stupid and didn't understand [DEVS ONLY] bit in the thread and this is the result of it.
My hunch, and I think that some agree is that too many people felt entitled to his work, as if he were beholden to them and accountable to the demands thrown at him. He was essentially donating his time to the community, during a time of year where no one has much time to spare. I suspect he continues his efforts but doesn't want to be bothered for progress reports or feature requests but have nothing to back that up with and it may well not be the case at all.
Personally, I would be willing to pay for his time, or the time of any developer, but I wouldn't presume to be the most important thing in that dev's world.
Looked at the thread every day a few times. Too bad some people can't just be quiet and wait. But, since this is not a [DEV} thread anymore:
Tnx Shaky153 for your effort!
i just say DAMND!!!!!
Shaky153 PM'd me to close his thread.
As the closing post in that thread was by me and said.

Which you read, as you noticed the thread was closed, so this thread is pointless as you already knew the answer.
If you want to know why, then PM Shaky153 as only he has the answer.
As for creating this thread in the Development Section, that is a no-no.
Questions go in the Q&A thread.
On that note, Thread Closed.
Title says it all.

Still dont understand why there are separate discussion threads for every ROM out there...anywhere else you go the discussion about the ROM stays in the Dev thread so that issues can be talked about and resolved in one place...
Call me crazy, but it just seems stupid to me to junk up the forums with all kinds of threads about threads....

Lol. Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Because some of us don't have enough posts in the forum to go to the developers thread and address our issues there. I'm sure once most people reach that minimum of 10 posts you'll see less and less of them in the general section

But seriously, basically what it boils down to is the Dev threads were, long ago, ONLY for Developers, i.e. developers working on a ROM openly discussing code, etc., maybe beta testers (sanctioned, not the masses of us) reporting in their bugs etc. NOW most Dev threads are for pretty much everything directly related to that ROM, and sometimes a little off topic. Not to say thats how EITHER should be, just pointing out history and todays reality. Some devs encourage open discussion in their threads, anybody with questions or issues to post and they can watch one forum, some request a thread in General for anything that isnt 'Development'... which is kinda vague, but I think the idea is to set it up that way to avoid the dumb posts that already violate rules anyways (i wanna have your baby, etc), but is enforced vigilante style by indviduals who even amongst themselves dont have the same OPINIONS as to what is relevant in there anyways. It all seems ridiculous, but thats how it is. I suggest following the Devs requests, dont break any real rules, and maybe we should ask the devs if they would prefer the questions directly pertaining to their ROM be in their thread, or in a million General or Q&A threads... and flag the minimods if theyre abusive (against the rules).
That sounds good. Can I subscribe to your magazine?

Hi all,
I've searched xda and others, and can't confirm whether or not this ROM was ever completed for the Dinc.... anyone got any info on this?
Codename Android
Noob, out.
AFAIK, it never was. No version could ever boot. Even if it ever did, this was a pre-HWA ROM.

Okay, I've read the forum rules, but I need your help.
1. Show me where this is written: "Noob better read forum rules before posting"
2. Show me where this is written: "Questions go in Q&A"
3. Show me where this is written: "Developers post threads in Development"
If you can't provide proof that these three rules exist, out of the very forum rules you expect me to read, should you even be a moderator?
I find questions being asked in all the forums, under all areas. I asked a specific question about a specific ROM that's been in development, that I knew would get answered by the folks who would know best: devs. Therefore, I posted it in Development.

No, they're not common sense, if they were, there wouldn't have been a need to post them.
I'm relatively new to rooting & development, and still learning. But you are moderators, and you have the opportunity to teach & encourage others. But when you forget that Golden Rule of Basic Internet For Grown Ups called "Don't Be An A-hole", you'll blow those opportunities, piss people off and drive them away.

Yes they are...the development section is for development of roms and mods. Your thread is a question so it goes in the Q & A section.

Ok, since you can't be bothered to look at a sticky in the development section, here you go: READ BEFORE STARTING NEW THREAD! This is DEVELOPMENT section not Q&A/General!!!! <<<<
And I'm sorry, it IS common sense. Have a Question? Post in Q&A (aka Question and Answers). How about a nifty new ROM I'm developing? Sounds like a good place to go is development. I really don't know how to break it down further, honestly. For the record, I'm not trying to be an "A-hole," but you are pushing the limits of common sense.
Now, I gave you the link, so please read it, or have an adult read it for you since you missed it the first time, despite it being a sticky (thus being at the top of the sub-forum). Better yet, read it twice so it all sinks in.
Edit: Read this, too. It's linked in that thread I gave you, but I don't trust you to find it. The True PURPOSE of XDA....Nailed it too the T:
If you read anything on these forums, read this post
Can we please keep posts to helping answer questions.
If you dont have a positive possible solution, don't respond within the thread.
Let's keep the forum to what its meant to be.
No Trolling. No Arguing. No Accusations.
Fairly sure we already have a Q&A forum..... and we're already in it
And fairly sure those points are already in the XDA Rules, if you have a problem with someone, hit report and let a mod deal with it, no-one likes a member trying to police other members as if they were staff

Just making this thread to begin with was pointless, and only creates unnecessary clutter in the forum.

As has been already been mentioned, XDA rules encompass what is expected of it's members. If you see something inappropriate, report it plain and simple, and a member of our ever diligent Moderator Staff will handle it. Thank you for your cooperation, and have a good day.
