New features in Sense 5 - HTC One X

Hi guys,
The update to Sense 5 brought us several improvements and there is a common understanding here in XDA that this is a huge step forward for our HOX.
Besides the main changes that are clear and visible from the beginning (e.g., camera highlights, blinkfeed, etc.), there are several other minor features and additions that are not advertised and might pass unobserved.
What about helping each other to discover them?
I start with:
Limit of 6 tabs in the stock browser has been removed.
Mail app can zoom in and out correctly.
The Car app saw lot of changes and finally makes it possible to add more applications to the Car panel .
Calendar widget (month) finally shows also a bar indicating the time of day for an appointment.
Swiping left on the keyboard changes languages. Swiping right toggles between numbers and letters.
Looking forward to learning what you can add.
P.S. Please, no questions about CID, availability, how-to flash, etc. etc. This thread is only targeted at those who already installed the new update.

Swiping left-right on the keyboard toggles between numbers and letters.

me to after your post :good:

What about all things they´ve removed?
-Several widgets lost and other f*cked up (agenda with photo thumbnail when birthdays)
-No more built-in skins
-Weather lockscreen (and others)
-Same with cube animations in sense apps
-3d effect in homescreen
-Helicopter view
-Weather animations and sounds of clock widget..
Sure there are more, but I went back to 4+ (viper) as soon as I saw all those lacks.

Honestly, several things you listed were IMHO cosmetic superfluous frills sucking up battery and processing power. I like the more minimalistic approach of Sense 5. But it's a question of taste. Also, the cube animation with its horrible mega-buttons at the bottom is replaced by the much more smooth and elegant JB-style tabs. I think this is an improvement.

menu hardware button tasks are absent in this update ..so there is no full screen for some applications

Not sure if I understand correctly, but if you want to get rid of that menu software button you can go to
"Settings"-->"Display, gestures and buttons"-->"Recent apps button"
and change to the second or third option.

Can someone advise on the speed, battery, and RAM usage after the upgrade?

Obviously Sense 5's superior RAM requirements and UI smoothness HAD to come at the cost of eye-candy. It's as simple as that.
For YEARS HTC listened to people constantly complaining about Sense being a bloated, laggy interface.
Having finally given the people what they want...a pared-down, light-on-the-RAM, snappy, clean interface...now those people are going to complain about the things they took out to achieve this?
Personally, and only personally, I prefer Sense 4+. Sense 5 is a little TOO minimalistic...but it IS growing on me.
But what I am NOT going to do is complain about the COST of achieving what Sense always should have been.
Simple, clean, fast.
Because Sense 5 definitely is that.

Try it and see for yourself. It's ALL subjective to the specific user.

For me those "cosmetic superfluous frills sucking up battery and processing power" is what makes the difference between HTC Sense and all the rest. You want smoothness? flash AOSP or CM...

In my opinion sense 5 is a huge step forward over sense 4+. I found the icons and animations always a bit gimmicky, and like the smoothness of sense 5. And it still adds upon CM with a better keyboard, better widgets, blinkfeed, better camera, better lockscreen styles among other things (first party apps made by HTC have a common style, and are more intuitive than stock android).

Lack of Widgets on FroYo

I am Running DeFrost,
And Yes its amazing!!
But a question that i cannot find a straight answer too,
Is there lack of Widgets for FroYo or is it the Firmware?
Or
Is it as simple as an App that needs downloading and installing and you gets your Widgets?
I miss just a couple of Widgets, One is my Emails
I had my Live and Gmail on 2 Different Pages on the Home Screen,
And Some Toggles, (Oh and the odd Clock)
Now i know i can do the Toggles easy with switch pro widget and extended controls widget
But what about my Email Widget :-(
There is no Sense UI in FroYo rom's so no htc widgets, you can try DJDROID rom which has Sense UI on Froyo

Blade themes and apps

This one is for Blade Themes and Applications!
Invisible Home
The idea:
Your home screen is just the background. Everything is still accessible from it.
I found some really nice backgrounds but found they were being obscured by various icons so I thought why not make them invisible.
Implementation:
Very successful, I have three screens, left screen is system stuff, right screen is newsfeeds, centre screen is basic things.
I found the invisible .png icon and using LauncherPro applied it to everything on the homescreen.
Result: My homescreen when I unlock is now just the background.
I have a 4x5 icon setup (adjustable in LP) and then a dock bar at bottom.
The top row is google search; left half is web, right half is voice. I used LPs Activities Shortcut and found the intents.
Then there is a large block (4x3) of Invisible Lock Widget to lock my phone by tapping the middle of the screen.
At the bottom I have 5 dock icons which have swipe actions so 10 actions all in all, plus a second dock scrollable behind that (kept the icons on that one).
Basically I can access everything easily from this screen because they are regularly used functions so I know where they are.
Implications:
You can draw your own background and effectively make up your own home screen.
Further Ideas:
I had an idea whereby you had a Monopoly type gameboard as a background, each square around the edge had an intent like direct dial home, direct message a contact, etc. Then you had some dice in the middle that you click to get to apps, the Chance card stack goes to Google Search, etc.
Black - Just have a black homescreen, the uber minimalist setup.
If you could have a diff wallpaper for each homescreen imagine you swipe left to see your fave contacts displayed on a GuessWho board and you can click each one to call/msg them.
This may be old news to some of you but after setting it up on my phone I am quite excited about the possibilities.
Perhaps I'm a bit late but I'd like to point out that you can have multiple wallpapers using the live wallpaper 'MultiPicture', which is available from the Android market. It's quite handy and perhaps you could do the Monopoly/Guess Who thing with that.
EDIT: Found something. I'll see if I can't fashion some kind of wallpaper out of it, but I can't link to it yet...

get cyanogenmod 7 for zte blade,
There are so many ways to configure themes etc.
Some launchers support themes (adw). But themes mainly change look of some apps, clock for example. Themes also change wallpapers, icons etc... but that's easy doing by hand...
Also for CM7 there's a theme switcher, which only work for specific themes. And one for adw themes.
All this is too confusing to me...
Someone should explain..
I just use LP with custom background, custom dock and custom icons all applied one by one myself

Huh? The Samsung theme is custom which means it can't be default. But if you use Swedish Spring (from Modaco) then you can flash a Galaxy S theme.

WP Clock Live wallpaper

Hopefully this is in the right place to post, but I had to share this for those that never heard of this live wallpaper.
Its easy on the battery since there's not alot moving, and overall just a nice informative wallpaper to have.
There's a free and paid version 65cents? Paid version doesn't really offer to much more than the free one, besides choosing a background and different color fonts and making the font move. But at 65cents not a bad deal I suppose.
Its called WP Clock on the market.
i just love WP Clock..
May I ask if anyone knows what is the widget that looks like the wallpaper with the clock and the tine n stuff but its a widget instead of a wallpaper.

Is this what you're looking for?
Been using this for a full month by now. It's by far the most useful/pretties widget replacing wallpaper I've yet to use.
And for its price, it's a steal.
this thing rocks... LOVE IT!!!
just bought wp clock and i must say it looks fantastic. one thing abt it though, i don't like how its a wallpaper so every homescreen's filled with the thing. really need the space on other homescreens for other stuff. if only they could make this into a widget. typoclock looks similar but i love the data connection and battery info. i tried using multi live wallpaper to have multiple wallpapers simultaneously but it doesnt support using a live wallpaper and a normal one from the gallery. so i guess im stuck, or has anyone found a solution for this yet?

the developer is really good at taking and implementing suggestions... I asked for drop shadow, but he wasn't able to figure that out, so he did the outline so I set my text to white (40% opaque) and outline to black (4pt 80% opaque) and it's almost as good as drop shadow... definitely gives enough contrast to where you can read it no matter what your background is... tell you what, I would actually like the same thing, so I will request it as well, and maybe we'll get it twice as fast =)

[App] Moogly - simple to-do widget needs testers

Hi everyone! Im the developer of Moogly, a simple but useful todo list widget that started as a project for Honeycomb. The pr is after the break.
There have been reports that it doesnt work properly on some devices! If someone could be so kind as to try the Lite version and if it doesnt stretch properly, send me some screenshots and log files!
You can also post issues at the main thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1202211
Thanks in advance!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MOOGLY
A simple but powerful to do list widget designed to be customized. Now with auto-hiding buttons!
Features:
★ Multiple independent, scrollable widgets
★ Quick, dialog based entry
★ Tick to delete or mark complete
★ Widgets are optimized for Honeycomb
★ Predefined themes or total customization
★ RTL support
★ Custom image backgrounds
This widget was inspired by To Do List from HTC Sense - for some reason, they were the only ones to get it right.
Lite Market link - restricted to 8 entries and only one widget
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.moogly.lite&feature=search_result

This widget is THE BEST! Thanks a lot!
Love this widget, probably the only thing I missed about Sense.
Do you use HTC Classic Yellow?
Looks absolutely perfect on mine, SGS2 running ADW launcher, 2x2 widget and minimal dark skin.
An option to autohide the buttons at the bottom would be nice, as it sort of clashes with my minimal look, or even just an option to dispense with the settings and minus button?
I haven't bought the app yet, will probably do it in a couple of updates time. Your problem is kind of that you made the lite version too good - I only need one widget!
Great work
But do you only need 3 entries? Thats crazy when the app is only $.99

Yep - didn't realise the lite version had that limitation
Only found out when I tried to add a 4th - now I've got the pro version.
You're a good salesman.
Haha - gocha! Just kidding
great widget. hope will get more graphic enhancement in the future. it didnt look clean, it didnt look neat, its not stylish and sleek too but hey it works. thats the most important thing. now after you pushed all feature updates, make the visual enhancement so my friends will look at this widget with awesomeness not only with functionality, but with great UI.
What? It looks alot cooler than everything else on the market. You just seem to have questionable taste...

Ok... i hope all those friends of yours can forgive me. I havent been making best selling apps all that long, its possible i just dont understand what im doing
Update should be ready tomorrow GTasks ftw!
Any issues to report?
Nope - working flawlessly and ive invested in your humble price and got the pro version
Ive now increased the Max number of entries that can be made in the free version - enjoy!
Any issues with the latest builds?
How can I hide Entrys? Is this only available in the Pro Version?
And a second question: Could it be possible to safe the Todo as a .txt-File and import it again e.g. after flashing a new Rom?
All lists are already saved. As for restore, i suggest you use Titanium or something like that.
Yep - the csv files can be found in RCBs directory!

Visual Apps/Widgets

One thing that really draws me to the Android OS is the customization. I'm super fascinated by the visuals. The ability to change the status bar, display different clocks, and overall just adding awesome widgets and such.
My question is, what widgets or visually changing apps do you use?
- Amazing Text Free
- Anotify
- HD Widgets

I'm using the stock ones.
If I helped in any way please hit thanks

Desktop Visualizer is good for changing icons for your apps
also if you dont like massive apps on your screen download DPI resolution change/density - if you are using 320 or 360 resolution try changing it to 260, you'll understand what i am talking about if you download the app..(root required) makes your phone look more Sophisticated !
I've been thinking about rooting my phone, but scared I'll mess it up or something. Right now I'm stuck with stock look/feel.
