[Q] External speakers mystery - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I unlocked my phone on the very 3rd day I bought it and now its over a year old phone which has seen many custom rom installations.
Recently, I tried to install jb 4.3 and everything worked well for 2-3 days then the problem started, suddenly there was no sound from external speakers, tried few other roms..same problem. Then downgraded to 4.1.2 sound started coming back in patches. Sometimes I get to hear the ringtone but sometime no sound. I also realized that as soon as I install Apex launcher the sound dies and uninstalling it doesn't help.
I really don't know the exact problem if nAa 3.4.55 and above versions are culprit or Apex launcher or hardware problem.
Some useful insight is welcome on the issue.
Regards

Yes tried everything to my best of knowledge. But its not helping. The external speakers have developed a mind of their own...they start and stop on their own wish.

[Q]Applications Random Pause

Greetings,
I have arc since May and I'm really satisfied from it.
But here's the thing. It randomly pauses most of my applications after a minute or so.
The first time it happened, i though i misstouched the screen, but I wasnt. When I'm playing games it pauses the game (No graphical lag or any issues, just pause) and i have to touch the screen to continue back. Same applies to youtube and any application that has pause.
Any idea what happened? My arc is stock non-rooted (Since 2.3.4 update) so i didn't mess up with any system files.
Looking at the number of views and no replies seems that no one has this problem , including me.
Have you tried to reflash the firmware or may be tried different region firmware or may be downgrade to lower version? Just to test the issue reappearing?
True. No, I haven't done flash or anything you mentioned before. Looks likely im going to use SEUS and wipe everything. Though I don't have time right now and I'll do it later in the evening or at weekend

I'm suffering from the same problem.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S II with stock rom
It started out a couple of days ago. It happens on every application I run, pausing it after a a short time it's running and it happens again every minute or so.
I tried uninstalling new apps but it didn't work.

Rooting is great.
Especially because you can delete bloatware, install CWM, flash MODs/Themes/etc., install V6 Supercharger and so on.

Ok, I've read some forums and I understand that is a "common" problem (it shouldn't be!!).
Should I send my phone to Samsung o wait for an Update ?
It's hardware related or not ?
Does anybody ever understand why this is happening ?

I'm pretty sure it's not hardware related... hope samsung fixes it.
RE: update firmware
I think this issue could be solve by update firmware which release by samsung.
Just go to "setting", and "about phone" then "check update"
then i think these issue can be solve.
So far, I didn't face any issue after i update the firmware.

Yes, I got this issue as well. Already update to new firmware yesterday. See how it response first before I complain to Samsung.
Cheers:
If you have not updated do this :
During a call....
Press Vol- down all the way n Vol+ up to the max.
Unless you update your firmware from SGH OTA

Do you have this problem and does this method actually work? have you tried it?
Just a quick note that this has also happened on my wife's phone.
Along with not having any audio in call, the phone ringer and other alerts had no sound as well. Required a reboot to fix it.
On the latest official XEU firmware via Kies.
I have exactly the same issue.

Sorry for this huge delay.
3 weeks ago I've updated to the last firmware and my Wonder it's just reborn as a new phone.
It's faster, better, and most of all it has phone capabilities with no issues.

Never happened with my SGS2 - had it since launch.
BTW, this problem has not recurred on my wifes SGW since my last post.
I recommend my girl friend to buy SGW 2 weeks ago. It is already running GingerBread version 2.3.6, this device seem smooth within 2 weeks, but now this audio issue start to kick in... any practical and workable solution for this???
So is this issue resolved now ?
My gf is planning to buy this phone. I don't want her to have any troubles.
Peace brothers!
Maybe it is a solution to root the SGW and install cwm. In CWM then wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache. That often solves problems which appeared after some time of using!

Several issues with JB

Recently I bought myself a Galaxy Nexus after owning a Nexus S for 1,5 year.
I never had issues with the Nexus S (even with JB), however this seems a different story on the GNX.
My issues:
- Youtube doesn't play videos and crashes
- Gallery crashes when looking at videos. I get a black screen when playing a video but it doesn't start to play, when I press back the system doesn't react, pressing home returns me to the home screen.
- Face unlock doesn't start it's process and I'm redirected to enter my PIN
Any ideas? I noticed the factory JB 4.1.1 image is released, maybe I should place a clean image on my GNX?
Thanks for all comments!
Are you currently on a stock or custom ROM?
I have this problem here many and many times too with a stock rom.. Yesterday I reinstalled the factory ROM 4.1.1 but the problem persists, I think it's a bug in this version because in 4.0.4 doesn't have this problems..
I don't have this problem and I very much doubt many do. I suspect you may have a hardware problem. Probably faulty memory.

I don't think is a problem of faulty memory, it is difficult to reproduce this bug, you must open a video in the gallery or on youtube, watch the video and pause, after a few minutes reopen a video and do that sometimes and you have the problem ..
I've never had anything like this happen on jb.. .
I don't have this problem - did you try deleting the Youtube app and reinstalling it?
It might be worth trying to do a total hardware reset if you have a couple hours.

I've done it already, I've deleted the cache's app and the problem continues, it does not happen right the first time, occurs after about 10 times you watch a video and then watch again ..
It's a new phone. It came with ICS 4.0.1 which went to the OTA upgrade path: 4.0.2, 4.0.4 and then 4.1.1. So completely stock.
I also notice that the camera app doesn't come up (the same problem which does occur when unlocking with face unlock).
Pictures from the gallery show up without problems.
What are the best steps to have a complete hardware reset? Flashing the stock JB 4.1.1 factory image via fastboot?
If it's hardware defect, is there a offline diagnostic tool I can run on my GNX?
I appreciate all replies!
For me the only way to solve that is using the 4.0.4 stock ROM

Today I returned my Galaxy Nexus to the shop. I will get a new one as soon they're back on stock.
I returned to my Nexus S which has JB, unfortunately it seems JB is still not as stable as ICS. Had some Google Talk crashes today.
Never had a crash on my Nexus S on ICS.
Edit: Nevermind I didn't read your last post completely.
Glad to see you're getting a new one
I'm also waiting for a replacement for mines (kept crashing randomly). It will arrive on thursday.

I think I figured out how to solve these bugs, here they stopped to occur after disabling facial recognition, use another way to unlock your phone and make sure that they stopped
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Probably the people who reported not having the bug doesn't use face recognition, I think this is the reason for very few people reporting this bug.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I've never had these issues and I used face recognition since the first day I got the phone.
Meanwhile I got a brand new Galaxy Nexus, however after one week of use the same problems returned!
I wonder if an app or something else is causing these problems.
I have not had these issues, you probably have a faulty phone.
It can't be that I have two times a faulty phone? First one was delivered with the Google ROM, the second one with the Samsung ROM which I changed immediately to the official yakyu ROM.

[Q] External speaker sudden death on Sgn2

Hey there, new on xda (newbieee). So I bought a Sgn2 last march end rooted it from a stock rom. Everything was perfectly fine until yesterday when the external speaker suddenly stopped working at all. No notifications, no media sounds, nothing happens. I've ben reading other theads/foruns and already tryed things like put the headphones in and out the jack, factory reset and return to a stock rom. Now I have a stock rom 4.1.2 ZTO (Brazil) and the problem still persists. When I run the hardware test (*#0...) , the speaker does not respond yet. Anyone with similar issue? And now a totally noob question... Could a stock kernel cause some conflict? Install a new stock (another countries) rom with brand new kernel could solve it or it's hardware issue no matter what??? Sorry if thread is misplaced and thank you all if have any suggestion.
I would go back Stock and take phone back to Store and have them look at it

Maybe a foolish question but what rom are you using? Stock or custom? When custom wich one?
I think that you have to be a bit more specific to get accurate help on solving that issue.
All sounds are off when you experience that issue? Do the speakers/earphones have sound if you make calls when no sound issue present?
Wich speakers work or not (internal/external on the back/or earphones? Details on such questions might be helpful to have an idea on the specific issue you're facing.
See if i could help you with that...

First try to see if you have the latest rom, it should be 2.3.6. If you have 2.3.5. you should fist try an update via. OTA with some stable wifi connection.
Updating with Kies can be dangerous since i tried that and it stuck on 3%.
After that i was just lucky to fix my phone without bricking it.
If you have latest Gingerbread and no warranty, you could try flashing the official rom again with ODIN. If you're successful warranty may still not be void.
There is a guide here on xda for that. Latest official roms you will find on sam firmware (google it), but you have to register there to be able to download (i, think).
If that's not working it can be a hardware problem. Let's hope it's not.
By further questions, feel free to ask! Do not bother about your english as soon as we can understand what you mean it's ok.
thanks i will try.
I also have the same problem since one year.now habituated with it.for me it happens, every 24 hours or so.all the sounds, will disappear.
