I am trying to install 2.2 but i can't get past the radio update.
First i rooted my incredible with unrevoked3 then realized i needed to update the radio. So i followed the directions from this forum to upgrade the radio to 2.X from a rooted phone. I installed the stock BP31IMG, downloaded the dinc_ota to my SD, renamed it to update.zip and booted to recovery. Upon running the update it gives the following messages.
Finding update package
Opening update package
Installing update
Verifying current system
assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/lib/modules/bcm4329.ko . "f6c9098e3fd8e6caef864f35090043561987e9f8")
E:Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(Status 7)
Installation Aborted
I formatted my SD and downloaded the dinc_ota from a few different sources but i still get the same message.
Anyone have any ideas?

Downloaded on my pc and transferred to phone. Are you saying i must download it using the phone?
If you cant do it through your PC try using your phone... Go through the Google Account Setup then download Astro File Manager.. Download the OTA update through your phone from whatever source, then use Astro to rename it to update.zip ; then just go into recovery and apply it.
I think you have to apply the first OTA that everyone received shortly after launch that fixed exchange issues prior to applying the radio update.

Yep thats what fixed my issue with it
basically the order should be:
if rooted run PB31IMG.zip
complete the setup process on first boot and run Verizon's first (and only right now) official OTA update that you will receive
rename dinc_ota.zip to update.zip and from the stock recovery update the radio
from there reboot and you should have the new baseband
Note: apparently don't run dinc_ota.zip more then once or you can brick the phone, so be careful, however the failed updates you have been doing i dont think count cause i must have done that at least 4 times lol
follow the official instructions here:

Did you go back to stock then apply the radio update zip or did you already have the first OTA from about 2 months ago then flash the new radio OTA?
Come on PPL - Hasn't anyone encountered this and figured it out?
I'm applying the radio update now. It seems to be working. I did not get any error and it's going through the green arrow over the phone screen now. I just went to stock then ran the update.zip from recovery.
Make sure that you rename "dinc_ota" to update. Then boot into recovery and then select "apply update.zip"
Hi im running this rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
and i have recieved a notification for new software update (the one with better russian keyboard) and i tried downloading but it didnt work. Is it possible to do this (im rooted with unrevoked)? Also would i lose my root? i dont care if i do, im more interested in getting the new update and unrooting, thanks
yes you would lose root.
you are aware that if you install it you may never be able to root your phone again? well at least until one of the devs here finds a way.
i'm sure that update will get rooted and added to the ROMs soon if they haven't been already.
but other than that if you don't care then you should be find installing it.
i tried updating using system update, but it wouldnt work, my clockwork mod said the update failed
how can i update to this safely?
i know theres a way, do u know it?

You shouldn't try to install OTA updates to rooted phones. It usually won't work.
If you want the new version you can either install an RUU with the official version and then root, or you can install a newer rooted stock ROM through recovery.
yaaaaa bout that im on a mac, tehehe, and i dont mind losing my root
^havent heard of an ruu working on mac
The easiest thing for you to do is install a new custom ROM that is based on the new version (mine and a couple of others).

hence the third line of my post.
what if i just wanted the update and i didnt want my root tho?
Reboot into recovery, apply zip from sd card, toggle signature verification so its off, the update zip is downloaded to your sd cards download folder. Apply it. Then use unrevoked to root your phone again.

do i have to download the system update first, and then it will become update.zip, or is already do, can u walk me step by step through?
update: i tried what u said elmalote and it didnt work, what do i do now????

Is it a fully safe way to try install OTA update over the rooted ROM? I have branded ROM rooted using unrEVOked and I would like to try to install OTA update this way.
it didnt work for me, but if u try please tell me, it shouldnt screw up your phone.

I'm not so sure about that. I've looked into OTA update downloaded into sd-card and it contains:
- system updates (new files, patches and so on)
- recovery img
- hboot update
- radio image
So let's assume that I toogle verification process (turn it off). OTA update will install over rooted ROM. After this, I have new recovery (because OTA update contains it).
I can see possibility of bricking my phone, when following situation appears:
- OS doesn't start-up (fell into boot-loop, whatever)
- recovery is back to stock, so no possibility to restore from nandroid backups
What do you think about that? Can someone confirm this is safe/dangerous?
Barthand, relax, i tried this, and i just rebooted my phone and it was fine. if you don't want to do it, then don't, but don't fret. it didn't work for me but it didn't screw up my phone either, now back to the main problem does anyone else have any solutions to install ota on a rooted phone.

I have root and un-lock my Galaxy Nexus today and flash IMM76D which is download from Google developer page (https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images)
after finish all the step and updated to Android 4.0.4 Google official rom, I have received Android 4.0.4 System Update by OTA, and ask me reboot the phone !
after rebooting, Build number is updated to IMM76I. and the Baseband version is I9250XXLA2.
But I can not go into CWM anymore after updated by OTA. that's it is normal case......????????????
why un-root after updated by OTA ???????
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Your meant to pull the battery out when your flashing the ROM .. geeeez some people don't read instructions anymore!
Remember! Pull your battery out whilst flashing!
Rename the OEM recovery restore file, reflash CWM recovery, and you should be good to go.
Gnex toolkit should help, if you don't have it already.

6) As with all stock updates from Google, these updates will change the permissions on the su binary so, in effect, you will lose root (for those who have it). Install supercurio's OTA Rootkeeper BEFORE you do all this, or, for those with an unlocked bootloader or CWM installed, just re-flash ChainsDD's Superuser zip file found here in CWM, or manually change the permission via ADB (mount the system and chmod 4755 /system/bin/su) while booted in CWM.

Notes:
5) For those of you that don't know, there are two files that re-flash the stock recovery on every boot (/system/recovery-from-boot.p and /system/etc/install-recovery.sh). You need to make sure that these files are either deleted or renamed, or else CWM will disappear when you reboot. These files serve no purpose other than re-flashing the stock recovery on every boot. So, if you've recently gotten an OTA and applied it, your CWM is gone...

What's the intention here? There's no need for this if you're not helping/explaining. What if he did and brick his phone? Would that make you happy?
Hi!
My Nexus 7 is rooted and bootloader unlocked, with TWRP custom recovery. If I accept the KitKat OTA update when I get it, will it brick my device? Will my device be wiped? Do I need to do anything special? Will anything break (I use Skype and the camera a lot)? Do I need to re-root?
Sorry for the noob question...

Apparently it overwrites default recovery and you lose the root. But still it's not safe.
Instead
Download the ota and supersu to your tab.
Goto TWRP
Flash ota first. then immediately flash super su. You retain root with custom recovery.
That's it.
Follow this and nothing breaks.

Root should not affect the OTA update.
I have a rooted Nexus 7 LTE which ran on 4.3.1 until yesterday. Last night I received the update message. So I updated to Kitkat 4.4.
It worked great especially since SuperSU managed to keep the root access. So after the update I had no additional work to get it rooted again

How about custom recovery?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Dear all,
I hope anyone can help me. I am trying to update to the latest Android version which I got OTA today. I have rooted my device and I am running TWRP (version 2.8.5.0) since some time. (Rooted it to restore some apps using Titanium backup). When I try to update using the OTA my device boots into recovery. When I choose install and select the downloaded zip file my device gives me the following error:
E: Zip signature verification dailed: 1
Disabling the ZIP verification doesn't work as I will just get another error message.
I have tried sideloading the ROM using adb commands but so far this hasn't worked either.
Anyone can give me some directions as how to continue from here? I would really like to update my device to Android 5!
Update with solution (for me):
What worked for me was downloading the OTA update like I would normally do. Then connect the phone to the computer and copy the downloaded update file to the computer (should be located on internal memory/download/). Once you have the file on your computer extract it, and then extract the file 'firmware'. Inside this second file should be a recovery.img. If you flash this recovery to your phone (no need to unroot or relock your bootloader) you will then be able to install the update.
That's because you need stock recovery to flash OTA. It won't work with TWRP because the OTA ZIP works different than a custom ROM.
Go back to stock everything and it'll work.
Or wait a couple of days till the boys here come up with a lollipop rom.
Ok thanks a lot, that'll help me I'll let you guy know if I run into any more problems.
how revert back to stock rom

Use these two files. First restore the stock nandroid using twrp (remember to choose NO when twrp prompts you to install supersu and root rom).
After you successfully restore the backup, flash stock recovery.
That should take care of it.
