Battery NOT Charging - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hey guys. For some reason my battery will not charge at all.
I charged my phone on a laptop yesterday. And since then it hasn't been charging. I've tried different chargers and AC blocks but still no luck. Any suggestions?

The charge port on your phone is probably no longer operational. This has happened to my t989 as well. You need to get it replaced.
I ordered another port off of Ebay. Here's the link:
Search ebay for OEM-Samsung-Galaxy-S2-T989-Charging-Charger-Port-Connector-Dock-Socket-USB-Port

OK. But the phone shows it charging. It just doesn't gain any charge. Is that a symptom of a faulty charge port?

Issue with USB Charging

Just happened tonight to me....
Couldnt charge my phone for some reason got home and my battery was at 15%.... popped it on the charger like normal... nothing... DOH
So I took my other battery that I had popped it in... 80%... not charging though... switched wall outlets, cables etc...
If I turn the phone off it gives the indication of it charging via the white battery filling up and the lightning bolt... *shrugs*
Still NO dice... ahh someone help me....
It is rooted, but no custom ROM.
Thanks everyone !!!

Worst case scenario your USB board is hosed. Try another charger? Or try charging it from a computer if you don't have another charger? I guess a PS3 could charge it too if you don't have a computer handy either

[Q] Charging issues

Well here's my story.
An app was misbehaving which made the phone's screen turn on and off. I was told that it might be lint in the charging port that was causing the problem. Cleaned it and the problem consisted. So I downloaded better battery stats and it ended up being a misbehaving app that I uninstalled and the problem went away. So now what happened was that it wasn't charging. I looked around and searched and most threads led to changing the charging port. So I did, I ordered a charging port on eBay for $13 from NJ and it arrived to me a week and a half later. I replaced the charging port and nothing changed. The phone recognizes that it's plugged in and says charging but it the settings it says discharging and not charging (AC). So then I thought it could be the battery. So I went ahead and bought an OEM battery for $20 which was a pretty good deal. And still, no charging. I then remembered it could just be the charging cable. Stupid me I said. Then I tried my friend's SII's charging cable and yet again no charging.
Now before I sell my phone and go buy a different one, is there anything else I've missed? Anything else that could be causing this problem?
Bump. Anybody have any ideas?
You said you used a different cable. Did you also try a different charger (you probably did)? Did you try AC charging and USB charging?

I figured you already did. Don't have any insights for you I'm afraid, you already did what I would recommend.
The first thing I would've done was to do a factory reset to rule out an app causing the problem cause just uninstaling maby erases the app but the app could've done something that messed up the system. you never know. then I would go after the cable and the charger, then the battery and then the charging port etc
I highly doubt an app can make your device stop charging.

I have the same problem, my phone is charging but when it's unplugged it shows "connected", and the screen turns on and off and drains all the battery... actually I just bought a new USB port and I'm waiting it to arrive so I can change mine... and I'm very dissapointed to read that it won't work ... It seems to be a massive manufacturing defect, there is a lot of people with this problem and samsung is not responding.
sorry for my bad english..

Most of the time it's the charging port. Hopefully it will solve your problem, good luck:good:
One other thing to add in. When it's plugged in and i dial #*#4636#*# it says "Connection problem or invalid MMI code."
But I can still transfer files via USB
any updates on these charging issues?

No, I ended up selling the phone for $300 so a friend of mine of knew what the problem was all about and since he had a crappy phone he didn't really care that it had a charging problem.
I'm about to buy either a Galaxy Note, S3 or One X.

[Q] 3800mAh Extended Battery

I recently bought a spare battery for my phone knowing that the original battery sucked. But the problem is I can't get it to work :crying:. Whenever I plug it into the wall charger. The front 3 touch buttons starts to flash but nothing happen. I tried booting the phone up and still nothing. Someone please help. I also tried googling it. still no go.

Leave it plugged in. You don't even have enough battery power to start the phone. let it charge for a bit

Sounds like the battery is faulty to me (assuming your original battery works fine with the phone).
The flashing touch panels means a completely depleted battery.
Are you using the stock charger that came with your Nitro?...You HAVE TO use the stock (or similar charger that pushes at least 1A, might even be 1.1A) in order to "kickstart" the battery to charge up from that depleted state.
You can also try a battery charger.
Another option is to buy a cheap generic charger, cut out the connector that goes to the phone, get the + & - cables apart and use it to charge the battery.
Btw if you HAVE to this either your phone faulty or the battery is bad quality. I hope is the battery. Completely drain your stock battery and try the same thing.

Has anyone else noticed that this is NOT 3800Mah.? I used it today and did notice an improvement but nothing great and it certainly wasn't as long as a large battery like thay should be. The extra inch isn't worth the extra battery. So for now its become a backup

Ok currently I'm leaving the battery to charge with my phone for the whole day and let's see what happens. I'm currently using an iPhone charger head and a microUSB cable. Is that ok? When will I know it's out of the dead battery state? Is it when it lights up to the battery charging screen? So sorry the overwhelming questions. I really do not know.

Use the lg charging block and cable that came with the phone. If you get nothing after a few minutes try removing the battery for a minute. Reinstall and try charging again. That could do the trick.

No, an iPhone charger will not work. You will only be able to get 0.5A (500mA) from an Apple charger when used with an Android phone (because Apple uses its own proprietary spec with USB charging). Any non-Apple charger rated at over 1A (1000mA) should work.

Thanks for heads up. What if I use my samsung tablet charger? It gives of 2A. Is that better?

Should work. Keep in mind a 2A charger just means it's capable of drawing up to a maximum of 2A, but the Nitro HD won't actually use all of it. So it's safe to use a charger that is rated 2A.

Charging slow???

Out of the blue I noticed my S3 was charging very slowly, it even was losing a charge while it was plugged in while I was using it. I figure it had something to do with my custom ROM so I reflash, still same outcome. The battery was still holding a good charge, so I figured it was something else. I then went out and bought a new charger, which came with a micro usb cord to see if that helped. Plugged in the new charger while using my old micro usb cord, still same outcome. Then used the new micro usb cord and old charger, charging went back to normal, problem solved! I would of never thought that the cord would malfunction from day to day use after such a short lifespan. Moral of the story, check your cords if you experience the same problem, it could save you some time and money!
I had the same issue, however it did not matter what cord I used. I cleaned all the pocket fuzz out of the charging port, and still no go. Ended up returning to stock and sending in for warranty. Mine had a bad charge port. Is a common issue with the S3.

I have the same issue. The stock charger was taking 6-8 hours for a full charge, I just recently got the 7000 MAH zerolemon battery. It takes almost an entire day to charge that. I bought a different Samsung charger and it charges within 4-5 hours, which isn't bad seeing how my phone lasts almost 2.5 days. They say not to use any other charger for the S3 because the stock charger charges the Lithium ION cells or whatever and using any other charger starts to diminish them after prolong use. But hey, I can't wait an entire day for my phone to charge. I suggest you get another charger. I have a HTC micro sd charger and it charges pretty quickly.

Dash charge RMA

Anyone ever had to RMA their phone due to dash charge quit working? Mine stopped working out of the blue and contacted support and they want me to send my phone in. So, could this really be a problem with the phone and not the charger? If I knew a new charger would fix it, I would buy one.

Does it still charge? How fast (mAh current ples).
Please be sure that your device or the charger B4 u send it
maybe the problem from the charger
try with another charger?
Here ya go. That's the thing.. I don't have another cable.
Yes, the phone charges fine just no dash charging.
So anyone think buying a new charger would save me the trouble of a RMA?

You are showing the charge rate when the phone is almost full.
Check when it's around 20% charged.
Cause at the end all android phones trickle charge.
Never breaks 1300 mA

Try some other charger before you send the phone.
My op3t was charging quite fast even with a car charger not a dash
FYI, I had trouble charging where sometimes dash charge wasn't available. One plus promptly sent me a new charging cable which solved my issue. I suggest trying to ask for new charger/cable before sending in phone.
