I have to say this is the first gameloft game that I really like. The graphics run on high and so far it runs smooth.
Great looking game, but it does stutter/lag often on my Shield (especially when all the cars are on screen) I noticed that rebooting the device before playing helps. Does anyone else have this issue? I am sure that Tegra 4 can run this game easily, so maybe Gameloft needs to properly optimize it

My guess by the sounds of it is that you are unaware that android multitasks and have not ever bothered closing apps in the background.... That would explain why rebooting helps first as that would close background apps which would otherwise cause lag.
I actually blame android poorly labelling the "recent apps" button, it actually shows "running" apps, if you open recent apps and swipe an app to the left or right to remove it from the list it closes it (and a few more like steam, dropbox and facebook also run 24/7 but need closing from task manager). There are also android task killing apps and widgets which close all running apps with the exception of system ones and those you specify in a whitelist with 1 press.

Oh trust me, I'm a Android veteran, and know all about killing running task! I do kill all running processes before playing, but I still see some lag. It only seems to run best when the entire Shield is rebooted. I am pretty sure that this is an optimization issue with the game, as I dont have to reboot at all with all the other tegra 4 enhanced games that I have on my Shield.
I just wanted to see if i was the only person having this issue..thanks for replying
Drifting
Is it possible to partially drift with the Nvidia Shield like how you would with your phone? Each time I drift, it doesn't allow you to make a small drift, only large drifts.

Thanks, but if you played this with your standard phone, you use the gyroscope which allows you to either drift/ turn a little or a lot, when I say large drifts I am not referring to the length, sorry for the confusion. So is there anyway to control the turn while drifting?

Oh okay, well I haven't tried it on a phone so I don't know what level of control the gyroscope gives you, but slightly moving the left joystick on the shield gives you control while you're drifting.
I haven't mastered it yet so I still have trouble with it doing what I want it to, but it definitely alters your drift direction.

Use a live wallpaper that Uses the Unity engine, it seems to wake up the CPU/GPU after it goes to sleep which causes both to run at only 60% of the specs.
Nvidia said they were going to look into it, in the Nvidia Shield forums, but there is no ETA on when.
I use the "Andromeda Free Live Wallpaper" would love to put a link to the store but just created the account today so I'm restricted for the time being so search on the Google Play store.

I just saw this tip in the nvidia forums also. Thanks...works like a charm! Very little to no lag now.
I've had a lot of fun with this game as well.
But has anyone noticed any random crashing to homescreen? My first crash was when my battery was getting fairly low, so I was afraid that had something to do with it. But then even after recharging some I got more random crashes. I re-enabled wifi and haven't had a crash since...
That kind of makes me curious what is going on... but I haven't looked into it further yet, so don't mean to raise any alarms.
Throughout all this though it has not corrupted my save data or anything, at least as of yet *knock on wood*. I think it was Asphault 7 that one time I got a phone call in the middle of gameplay and it crashed the game and corrupted my save data >_> I had some backups though, but lost some progress.
~Troop
That's weird. I haven't seen any crashes yet but I haven't played it for extended periods of time yet either.
Really Glad that one good Racing game has the controller support.
Enjoyed playing the game a lot
All games that use onscreen controls should be updated to support joysticks/controlpads either shield/moga/ps3 etc. You know how much better it is to physical controls? Freakin' amazing.

Multitasking should be nice and easy, on WP7 it isn't. I don't know whose idea it was to make the screenshots so big, it's a waste of space. I think they should've done multitasking the way they do tabs in IE9.
I also noticed that you can only swipe one app at a time in the multitasking view, so if you want the 5th app, you have to swipe 5 times. I find that very inefficient which is not the goal of multitasking. It wastes time...
Where is the little red x in the top right hand corner to close apps in multitasking view. Instead you have to swipe over to the app, open it hit back and then hold back to get back into multitasking view. What a waste of time...
Anyone else think this multitasking blows?

Yeah, the swipe thing kinda sucks. You don't need to close no apps though. Just keep in mind how the so called multitasking works. There is actually NOTHING running in the background. Apps you leave remain in a frozen state until you revive them (or not).
this means that a ringer app must like in w7.0 run and the akku power goes low over night?

If you are referring to an alarm app, in Mango it would schedule a task / background agent that will be invoked when the necessary time comes. It won't have to run in the background and use any battery.

That's what's changing. It is real multitasking in mango but the apps need to be built to utilise it (which they're not at the moment, because we've only just started to build for it).

No its not. There is support for background tasks (periodic or scheduled) which have limitations on how often they can run and their CPU usage. There is also some special support for background file transfers and audio, not sure what else.
Your apps will definitely not continue to run in the background.
As someone said above, there is no true background multitasking. Your apps freeze in the background, and they now have the ability to instantly resume (rather than having to restart completely or take a few seconds to resume) when re-programmed to do so.
There are also special tasks that applications can take advantage of, but it is very restricted, and then you also have your background tasks, which is kinda like "services" on a Windows PC. The background tasks sit in the background and can do certain things, and that can be managed from the settings menu, but they too are still rather limited.
Holding "back" on your phone is just a list of recent applications, it's not something that shows you what is running in the background (because nothing is). Because of that, there is no need for a close button since there is nothing to close really.
I agree the way they do it in IE is more elegant. I also would like the ability to swipe away something. I know that since most of the time something isn't actually running, there is no need, but since it only keeps the last few tasks, I could then potentially keep something open all day by swiping away other cards first.

Ah ok. Thanks. Must have gotten mixed up between what we can actually do!
I think it would be better if the swipe could make us roll more than one app at a time. Just like in IE; if you want to go down, really down on the page, just swipe up fast.
Oh crap.. dont know how it's called or how to explain in a decent way.
Anyway, I hate having to swipe one app at a time, and I think there is no need to show "Start" in cards.

I've noticed that if you swipe really gently, you can get it to scroll across multiple tasks. It seems really sensitive, and maybe that' just a bug. Sometimes it'll go one at a time, and sometimes it'll swipe across 2 or 3 apps with just the right amount of pressure.
Has anyone here played with the HP TouchPad yet? They use a card like system for multi-tasking too and it has some good ideas. To close a task, you flick the card upwards off the screen and it's killed. I think something like this would work well for WP7.
Also, I'm with everyone else who doesn't like how you can't scroll smoothly across several tasks. I wanna be able to flick across the list quickly.

I think I found out how to make it scroll multiple tiles consistently. Simply do two swipes very quickly. Once it starts a smooth scroll you can also move back and forth easily without it snapping to each tile.

Hmm yes that seems to work. It should really be like that all the time though.
Thanks for pointing that out, it's still flawed though. You shouldn't have to make two quick swipes to make it go quickly it should depend on the speed of the swipe.
The cards are also too big, I really hope they change it to the IE tab style which has easily has enough space for the 5 previous tasks we were doing.
Other than that Mango is snappier and everything which is great but they still have a ways to go, their multitasking interface is nothing to be proud of.
I would bet that in the final build (or perhaps sooner) the scrolling through the MT menu will change to only require one swipe as does everything else in the OS.
As far as the style, when I first saw it I was thinking the same thing. When you hold the back button, why not have it look like the tabs in IE with a little "x" in the corner?
Considering it freezes apps, there is no need to really kiil any. But, I do agree that it would serve a good purpose if you didn't want something pushed out of memory and wanted to keep a particular app around for awhile.
Regardless, I like the functionality and thinks it works well as intended.
And, let us remember people, THIS IS SPARTA!!! er... I mean, this is beta.
Things will be fixed, rerendered, optimized further, added, deleted, and so on. So, let's not get in too big a tizzy over what things look like right at this moment. I mean, ya gotta admit, for a beta, this thing is damn good.

There are a couple things. Weird widgets and system tools will do it. Task Killers will certainly do it. Things like JuiceDefender or agressive or overdone profiles set in setCPU or tools like it will do this.
Other things that will do it is really large SMS/Messaging databases. If you have lot of text and picture messages, back them up to another format and clear them out. Same thing for the call log.
If you have managed to root yourself, there are few services that can be safely removed that will improve the responsiveness of your phone also.
Those are my suggestions off the top of my head, beside the generic: Wipe it and only set up what is ABSOLUTELY necessary.
So i've only had the phone for a few days and started noticing lag mainly in the settings yesterday.
It was buttery smooth the first few days until yesterday. I'll try to create a clear description of what is happening.
Everything in terms of hitting applications, sliding/switching pages, and browsers seems smooth but I'm getting doubts since settings have started lagging. So as of now, the settings menu is where I really notice the problem. What happens is I would press any of the choices such as display, sound, storage, etc and it would light up blue as a sign that I pressed it. Basically, the blue lighting stutters/lags as it turns into a deeper color and fades away proving that there is some lag. That itself is very irritating on such a powerful phone. The page also lags a bit as it's opening so it's obvious that it does lag. I don't understand why something as simple as settings might be causing this?
have any of you guys noticed this? I tried clearing ram, restarting phone, messing with dev options by changing animation and something else to .5x while enabling "force GPU rendering." I'm running stock touchwiz on baseband T889UVALJ1 if that helps. Keep in mind i'm not really tech savvy so try to suggest things in an easy to understand way please.
Any help is greatly appreciated and I hope you guys can help me fix my problem!
Been using it for the past 1 month plus and I do not have any lagging issues. I am on stock rom as well.
No lag either, been using the Note 2 for 2 months now. Check your apps with BetterBatteryStatts (too many backgroundservices runing).
No lag either. Did u install some crappy apps that run backstage

Thanks for the replies so far and before I spend some money on apps or what not, is there any way I can post a 5 second animation of what is happening? Kind of like a 5 second gif of my screen? A mix of a screenshot and video so like a screen vid? Are there are any apps that can do that(preferably free). I'll try to find an app that can do that in the meantime and will edit if I find something useful.
Edit: No idea what this is or how it ended up on my phone but could this be the culprit? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tgrape.android.radar
People say it's bloatware and s-suggest from samsung but i'm not sure why it would be shown as an app on the play store website
I have noticed the phone can lag a bit if you have a heavy live wallpaper running.
Just sharing my thoughts on this
did you modify anything? no lags on my N2.
normally i'd say if you leave your phone on for a few days in a row, clear the memory every once in a while (press and hold home, go task manager, ram tab, clear memory) or reboot it, just so you dont have anything residual in your ram.
when android sees that you have 2gb of ram, it doesnt auto kill as many apps as it would if you were to have only 1gb of ram (my note 1 autokilled sooooooo frequently that it was annoying), so your ram ends up getting filled with some apps that you only used once in a while.

I wrote that I tried clearing ram and restarting phone but it didn't help. Thanks for trying though
Yeah, I get a bit of lag here and there, specially if I haven't cleared running/background apps in a while.
I just do it from the task manager, and also check out what apps are using the most battery, and possibly therefore are some of the likely culprits.
I actually use this app called Carat, which is an "Energy bug detector app" (whatever that means), but it helps identify apps that are draining the battery, and incidentally, partially contributing to the lag.
Also obvious thing like live wallpapers or touchwiz in general (including all the 'special' Samsung features like smart rotate, smart stay, smart motion) probably add to it to. Nova launcher and a static wallpaper might help.
I'll try to post a video sometime soon showing the lag. It's not serious lag, but it does stutter and lag a decent amount compared to my first few days which is what sucks.

You can try enabling Force GPU rendering in developers options. That usually helps with that, or at least it seemed to in my case. Report back if it actually helped
quick update:
I found a vid and my lag basically looks like this http://youtu.be/0qyijcTeHcU?t=2m27s
Look at when he clicks on display, there is clearly some lag even if it is half a second - 1 second. I'm almost certain that my lag is even worse than that, but not by too much. It's just a pain in the ass after the first few days. Would flashing a custom rom like jedi X 7.2 help out with this since it's running a bravia engine?

Don't clear ram. It's unnecessary. Android is meant to run with little free ram. Clearing it often will only hurt your battery life from apps having to reload when you start them, and create lag. ?
I always clear my recent apps, especially after playing games, doesn't make my phone lag.
But it is very annoying when you're playing a game, come out to look at other stuff then have to reload the game. Biggest flaw in Android in my book.
I'd be interested to know if there's anything to force an app to stay in memory running.

Same here. I like to play escape games, like Doors and Rooms, and often times I need to pop out and use a calculator. (because I'm too lazy to multiply four numbers in my head...) It would be nice to use the calculator on the phone without risking losing all of my progress...
On the other hand, my math skills have definitely improved as a result of having to use the built-in memo function in the game as a scratch pad.
After I bought this phone I installed Ros, ML, and PUBG. I observe that only in ROS and ML I feel a massive lag even in good ping in middle of the game. Same here. Mobile legends is lagging badly.
I used to play a very lightweight game called Punch Quest (no longer in the play store but i loved it), it ran smoothly as hell on my previous Oppo F7 ,But on A70 it was lagging like hell.
I rooted the phone and discovered that "msm-adreno-tz", which is the GPU governer for our A70, is doing horrendous work with 2D graphics (Such as ML) and Punch Quest but it's decent for 3D Graphics such as PUBG.
Changing it to Performance or even Powesave fixed the heavy lag in my games.
I hope this helps someone out.

So i have been looking what applications are associated with running the app and every system processes that affects the performance of the game.
1. The game launcher launches the game everytime and enhances the game really well. So i skipped this one.
2. I went to Galaxy Store and noticed program called *GameOptimizingService* . I went to look for the reviews and there are a couple of users who complained about frame drops too. I took the time to look at it and it seems its the main culprit for the game frame drops.
Going to the app, i looked for every processes that involves this app. Please follow these steps to stop the app from changing your system performance aggressively.
1. Go to Settings > Apps
2. Click the options or 3 dots on the upper right corner and hit *Show System apps*
3. Look and click for *Game Optimizing Service* > scroll to the bottom of the page and under Advanced Section, youll see *change system settings* > unclick the *allow permission*
4. Same goes under Appear on top section > unclick the *allow permission*
5. Click the options or 3 dots on the upper right corner and hit *Special access*
6. Under *optimize battery usage* > click the drop down *Apps not optimized* and select *All*
7. Turn off *Game Optimizing Service* and *GOS Legacy* and hit back
8. Under *Appear on top* option, hit option on the upper right corner and show system apps, then disable *Game Optimizing Service* and go back once.
9. On of the most important process, enter *change system settings* . hit option on the upper right corner and show system apps, then disable *Game Optimizing Service* and *game tools* then go back once.
10. Under wifi Control, look for *Game Optimizing Service* and disable the app permission.
11. Under usage data access, look for *Game Optimizing Service* and disable the allow usage tracking
The main goal is to hinder game optimizing service from messing any of your device's system apps.
After which, all games improved drastically in mine. Please let me know what happens to your device.

Did any of us say that? No. I never charge my phone while I'm playing, and the lag is always there.

Because i faced the same problem. That why i guess they maybe play while uncharged phone like me. Cuz i dont need charger with 4500mA battery. But when i play game while charging i dont get fps drop. You look so Negative Man.

He is not actually negative, the way you write your sentences makes them easily be misunderstood.

As I said above, you misunderstood. He says that you should play while charging.
What @bochanseiha wants to say is:
If we use the phone for gaming while it's connected to charger, games will work smoother without (or less) fps drops. Just like laptops.

Your solution is logical. But I do not play pubg or mobile legends. I usually play Vainglory and it never gets laggy even if I play with low battery. Someone who plays mobile legends should give this solution a chance and share his/her opinion here.
Update Game Booster in Galaxy Store.
- Open your Game.
- Pull down the Notification and tap on Game Booster
- Tap on High temperature.
- Turn off Auto Control.
I test without Charging and it work good. You can test.
I was looking for the solution but any of the solution was useless for me lol... So i moved to lineage os and got rid of everything... Games run perfectly now without any problem and also its all your stupid stock that was annoying... Now i can even play games while charging and doesnt matter if screen is on or not charging is fast.. Earlier playing with charger was so **** because it uses to lag more

this is the correct work around. I forgot to come back to update.
But apart from this, it is important to update GameOptimizingService as it throttles the game significantly too. I updated this earlier than game booster and the problem was solved.

it is working better after update but still, i will got lag and fps drop until restart app from launcher if i switch app while i am playing ( opening whatsapp, replying mail, etc ) and then tab back to the game. if i am tabbing out even once then the frame drop wont go away no matter what i do till i close the game and play again

I recommend while playing do not switch app or using other app. And block all pop up notification while playing game. I mean just play the game only.

well, i am replying whatsapp message, instagram or something like that when i am dying or respawning. There are no such issue on my previous phone and this phone with Gameoptimizing service and gameenhanced service disabled via CSWE app manager. The thing is i just want to use game launcher and game booster normally without these issues like fps drop when switching app and such cz when it happen, it will only getting worse, till i restart the game again, no matter what i do. The fps drop after few minutes playing did dissapear after update, but when switching app even for a moment, it still broke.

Yeah!! When i using S7 everything Good. I dont need to do anything just open the game and everything smoothly. But This A70 is running SD675 it should be good for gaming. I think Cuz of software make limited to the SD675 to run cold and drop our fps while gaming on it. Sad
