[Q] Gensoid functioning fine - but not opening? - Ouya Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a brand new Ouya, running completely stock - not rooted or anything - and have sideloaded some emulators (YongZH stuff mostly) onto my Ouya. The ones I have tried work fine - with the exception of Gensoid 2.4.3 (the apk that I got from SlideME before YongZH pulled everything except N64oid)
If I go to a file browser, and install the apk and open it from the install screen, it opens fine. If I open a Sega Genesis .bin file using Gensoid, it opens fine. If I try to open it from the launcher - it closes as soon as it pops up.
Even deleting app data doesn't fix this.
I have done a factory reset, and reinstalled my apk files - still have the issue. Since the emulator runs fine, I can not figure it out, and think I may have a bad RAM sector, or it may be an issue with the Ouya launcher. Since the emulator does run, though, and I reinstalled the APK files in a different order, so I highly doubt it is stored in the same place in RAM, I can not figure out why it won't open.
Is anyone else having this issue? What could it be, and is there a fix?

Can't get game to work, HELP!

So ehm, a friend of mine has a problem with his A100...
A few weeks ago he downloaded a, shall we say, less than legal version of NFS Shift, and despite numerous attempts at downloading the Data-file seperately, he never got past the "NaN Downloading Game Data 0 of 0MB" screen.
Bummer.
After trying for a couple of days, he saw a sale on the same game, bought it and downloaded it to his phone where it works fine.
The game IS compatible with the A100, but whenever he downloads the legal version to his tablet, he runs into the same problem as before.
Instead of downloading the (legal) game data file, he can't get past the "NaN Downloading Game Data 0 of 0MB" screen, and nothing gets downloaded.
My friend assumes that the cracked version of the nfs.apk somehow blocks or replaces the legal version from working. He has tried uninstalling the cracked version and installing the bought version several times, but so far nada.
Any ideas? Is there a particular file or directory he should try to delete?
Both phone and tablet are rooted, so is it possible to just copy the full game from the phone to the tablet?
Any help appreciated!
how do you know'the games is compatiable? I have tried the same version as your friend.
It's available for download in the market app.
Also, when you go to the www market: market.android.com, you can list which of your devices an app is compatible with, and NFS shows up as compatible with the A100.
(This is the NFS released by Electronic Arts Netherlands BTW. It's been released by a couple of EA-divisions, and a version released by one company, is sometimes compatible with different devices than a version released by different companies.)
I installed the apk that was included on my G2X and it works perfectly.
You could factory reset. It kinda sucks to do just to get a game to'work.
xxx
Downloaded files still doesn't work.
I downloaded the files on an Epic 4g and then just switched the sd card into my A100, and the game still won't work. They are in the correct location but Sim City still tries to download them and doesn't see them on the card.

The acer will not run game data off your sd card (mnt/external_sd) automatically. It has its own internal sdcard (mnt/sdcard) and that's where it stores game data. You will need to copy it in there but which exact directory I'm not so sure since I don't have the game installed. Maybe someone else can reply to that.
If you want to run from your external SDcard you need to use GL to SD app from market. Theres a thread here if you want to read more about the app.

[Q] "The application is not registered" error when I launch kindle reader. Ugh.

[Q] "The application is not registered" error when I launch kindle reader. Ugh.
Very few search results for this error, so I'm out of ideas. It has come up once before but the thread is closed -->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356441
My reader worked fine for 8 months. Then it updated to version 3.7.0.108.
Now when I click any of the "tabs" such as home, archive, on device, etc... I get this:
"The application is not registered. Trying to register it now. Please try again in a few seconds..."
No book will open, I get an "Invalid Item" error and it suggests I redownload it.
I have a rooted 1st generation KF with GoLauncher on it and ...I dunno if it's a custom rom or what.
I get a blue kindle fire logo when I first power up. I just installed the recommended stuff with the Kindle Fire Utility.
Fixes I've tried:
1. Restarting the device
2. Force stopping the app, then clearing the cache.
3. Going to the play store and choosing "Uninstall". The problem is, this doesn't really uninstall the app, it says something like "this will uninstall all updates to the kindle reader". If I go to settings --> applications, the option to fully uninstall is grayed out.
After doing the google play 'uninstall', the device freezes if I try to launch the reader.
4. Manually reinstalling/updating via the google play store. Now it launches and the device doesn't freeze, but I still get the errors. Also my books are gone but that's no biggie.
I also called tech support. They had me unregister my device from settings --> My Account... and eventually re-register it.
They also had me clear cache. Then those things didn't work they elevated me to level 2 tech support.
I foolishly mentioned I had the go launcher installed, they refused to help any further and insisted the 3rd party launcher was the cause of the problem, and my only fix is to factory reset and stick to the stock software.
So, if you made it this far, thanks for listening... now what?
If you have Root Explorer (or equivelent) for access to system apk files, you could try deleting that app from the /system/app folder, restart the device, go back to the system apps, paste another copy (or version) of that app in there and set permissions to match the other apks in the folder, reboot and hope it might correct the issue. It sounds like a software glitch from the getgo even on un-rooted devices.
howdy, thanks for the idea.
I have root explorer and root access, but when I go to rename or delete anything in that folder, I get "the file cannot be renamed because the file system is read only".
Also, I'm only assuming it's the app called "Kindle for Otter" which is the only one with the traditional kindle reader icon of a dude under a tree reading.
Is there an alternative reader that's still very convenient? Like I don't have to download books via USB or anything, it just monitors the appropriate folders and my freshly-purchased books appear in the list?

You must just be rooted and not have any custom ROM installed otherwise you could mount the system/app folder as r/w, meaning you probably don't have Superuser installed? Superuser is supposed to be installed when you root the device with the Kindle Utility but I couldn't get it to do it. Since you are rooted then you could try the MoDoCo ROM as it is based on Amazon's own 6.3.1 software and includes the Kindle Reader, Amazon app store and everything that is included with the stock software. In addition it includes the Google services framework and Playstore so you can have the best of both worlds, Google and Amazon. It runs much better than stock and I just flashed it onto my wife's Kindle and she is pretty satisfied with it.
There are plenty of decent reader apps and my suggestion would be try many different ones until you find a suitable one.

Actually, you just have to click the button on the top of root explorer. It should says "Mount R/W" Click it. Now you should be able to delete it and replace it.

Yes that is true but if Superuser (or equivelent) isnt present it doesnt work to well
Well, the mountR/W thing worked, and since then I've gone through a bunch of stuff.
And I'm back to square one. But read anyway if you're bored.
I'm a the point where I could reluctantly nuke everything and start over, I guess that would involve reflashing the rom
and reinstalling all apps?
Here's what I've tried:
• Replaced kindleforotter.apk, set permissions, and rebooted, when the kindle came back up it went straight to the stock launcher... weird.
Maybe cuz GoLauncher coincidentally updated.
• At this point I should click that APK, right? But, curious, I went to my books tab.
All my books are there but missing covers. Some have a down arrow/download icon, others don't.
• 4 books without the icon successfully redownloaded after an error, and were readable.
Sadly these are all older books and the other 20 or 30 books would not do anything when tapped.
• Next I tried reinstalling the app by clicking the kindleforotter.apk I downloaded. It reinstalled, I rebooted,
clicking the shortcut still doesn't work but I went back to the books tab in my kindle launcher.
Now, none of the items launch. The "Invalid Title" items give that error again, but this time they do not redownload.
• I tried removing everything from sdcard/Books and sdcard/Kindle and rebooting. Now only those 4 'lucky' books show up.
But they no longer open when tapped. Looks like it's trying to launch the reader but it crashes.
• Tried manually resending the latest book to my kindle via Amazon's website. It didn't show up.
• So I clicked Sync under my settings icon, and that really hosed it. The kindle launcher would infinitely crash and reopen.
• Since that's worse than the original issue I just updated the reader via the play store, getting myself back to square one.
Thanks if anyone has any other ideas... or some less painful way to reinstall this app completely without wiping out everything.
Sounds like a big mess.....you might just have to start over from scratch. At least that "should" clear up the misc. errors you're receiving. You'd have to re-root if but that process is simple. Reinstalling apps might take a little time but would be worth it if it corrects the issue. The Kindle's stock software (or any software) is not immune to undesirable performance.
One basic correction attempt with software and operating systems is to wipe it clean and re-install. I've had many PCs that had to be wiped and the OS re-installed to fix messed up stuff. Usually we try to re-install apps first to see if it corrects it......sounds like you've already done that.
You could always just find an alternative reader
Howdy... I went ahead and tried support one more time (sometimes you get lucky) but they had no ideas other than a factory reset. I'm gonna look into modaco.
edit: on the off chance you come back to this thread,
I factory reset, installed modaco via TWRP, have one problem.
Books work fine. But I can't access my apps.
When I click the "Apps" tab at the top, the screen flashes briefly and then I'm right back to the usual home screen
(aka the default kindle launcher screen).
I seem to remember a notification (with an amazon icon) about pending app downloads, in the bar at the top.
I skipped over it to check on my books. Now it's gone, and I can't get it back or view a list of apps on the system.
What gives?

That's odd......I never experienced that with MoDaCo. Did you wipe everything before you flashed MoDaCo (cache, dalvik, factory reset and system)? There were slight bugs with MoDaCo I noticed but nothing like that. Try reflashing but dont wipe sd card

I'll see if I can do that. One worry I had... I see modaco is offered in more than one place, and seems to have some options with the installation...
can you point me to a specific zip file that you know for sure is a good working one? Otherwise, I'll assume my zip is good but my wipe wasn't. I just factory reset and never messed with dalvik and the rest, I'm guessing that's all important...

I had the same problem. Solved it by going back to an earlier version of the app.3.6.0.87.
Hey, just wanted to thank you, I reinstalled modaco, but first did the cache wipe and dalvid wipe from the TWRP menus. Apps tab works fine now. Books too.
So far only one minor hiccup... the apps I had formerly installed via GoLauncher. I logged into google play, redownloaded one of them (DrawSomething) and specified that it send the app to my Kindle Fire from the dropdown. It gave me something like "this app will be installed shortly". But I never got anything... no download, no notification. Did it a second time and same deal. Eventually I downloaded it from the Amazon app store, but I'm worried apps from Google Play won't work easily anymore.
Do you know what I should do if I need an app from Google Play?
Had same problem
In case it helps anyone else. I had the same problem. Turns out that the google play store (which remember doesn't come standard with a Fire) had updated the Amazon Kindle application. I went into the play store and uninstalled (un-updated) the Amazon Kindle app and then everything worked.
Good Luck!
Old version solved it!

I have a rooted 1st gen KF running a cyanogen ICS ROM where the Kindle app had been working fine for a while, but suddenly wasn't registered and I couldn't even get the register dialog to display. Found the 3.6.0.87 apk online, installed it and it works fine now.
FYI 3.6.0.87 works on non rooted

This fixes the same problem for non-rooted Kindle Fires where you are running an sideloaded launcher and the Kindle book app and need to reregister.

[Q] At startup app files/downloads are deleted

tl;dr
Phone is wiped every time it starts. Used stock, cm7, and reflash. All fail.
I can't figure this out.
Device: r800x (SE Xperia Play)
Android: 2.3.3 stock
Bootloader: Unlocked via sonymobile website
Issue:
I bought a r800x. I joined a wifi network, and signed in with a Google account. I downloaded SuperGNES, a Super Nintendo emulator from the Google store. I transferred a game to the r800x from another phone over bluetooth. The controller worked, the game worked, and I saved in-game, and with the save state feature.
The phone ran out of power, so I charged it. When I turned the phone on, all the games were gone. Even the game saves.
Flash forward, cm7, and reflash to stock.
I installed Snes9x, and Snes9x+ from the Google store and it can open the last game it played, but it won't recognize any in-game saves.
So it must be the emulators or something?
Extra:
I noticed any file written to the r800x's external from a computer (/mnt/sdcard) do not get deleted. They're also flagged with RW permissions. The files that get deleted have RWX permissions.
This means all the cm7 files are still there.
I can save SNES ROMs to the SD card and they survive the startup wipe. They have RW- permissions and can't be used by apps. RWX ones get deleted, but can be used.
Any file brought in via bluetooth, download or cloud is destroyed on phone startup.
Snes9x load game path is in /data/data and the last game played survives, but doesn't recognize in-game saving. All emulator save states are wiped.
Solved
Reset the phone to factory. Tried downloading files/anything. It worked! Then downloaded Snes9x not from the play store, but the authors site.
The problem went away.

[Q] Installing Chrome or any APK's

Looks like ES File Explorer isn't available in the Amazon app store for the Fire Phone. I've tried downloading .apk's from elsewhere via silk to no avail (it looks like it is specifically not allowing *.apk's to download). There is the option to allow installing 3rd party apps, but not sure how to get the apk on the device. Anyone found a way yet?
Mine is still sitting on a UPS truck somewhere here in town, will have it soon. I sure hope we can at least get gMail and Chrome working otherwise I may return mine shortly after getting it.
Edit: oh crap, didn't realize YouTube will not work either.
adb sideloading works...
I was able to enable USB debugging by going into Settings > Device > Get Info About Your Fire and tapping the device name 5 times.
After that I following this guide ( https://developer.amazon.com/post/T...p-the-ADB-driver-for-Kindle-Fire-Devices.html ) to get the right Kindle adb driver installed.
From there I used the chrome apk found here ( http://www.thinkcomputers.org/how-to-install-google-chrome-on-the-amazon-kindle-fire-hd/ ) and did a "adb install chrome.apk"
So far, so good...
Awesome, wondering if google maps would work the the same.
gmail, youtube, etc have also been installed following this guide... http://www.gizmag.com/how-to-install-google-apps-kindle-fire-hd-hdx/30736/
Not sure about the stability yet, but I will report my findings...
Awesome, mine just arrived. I may leave it shrink wrapped for a couple more hours though.
I've been having difficulties getting my Windows 7 computer to detect the Fire Phone as a valid USB device. Windows tries to install drivers for it but always says drivers are not available. I just installed the android SDK and tried the Kindle drivers and the Google drivers, neither worked as well. I'm very frustrated at this point.
Ok, Windows 7 now sees my phone. I run the "N edition" and had to install many of the packages "N" excludes by default so it was an OS/Microsoft issue.
I just installed the basic four but the google framework crashes frequently while using google apps. The apps work but the framework crashing messages are annoying.
ES File Explorer
I had no issues with downloading this straight to my firephone then installing it. I did have to do some Google.fu to find the apk from a reliable source initialy but once on it is working as normal. If I can find the apk I used ill either upload it to my Google Drive and link or link straight to it if possible.
Es File Explorer
ES Fire Explorer is available for Fire phone. All you need to do is go to Amazon Appstore in your Fire and search for "ES File Explorer" and it will be there.
Yes, ES File Explorer is now on the Amazon App Store
I have installed it, along with many other apks I found on Google, such as Chrome, Instagram, uTorrent, Pandora and a bunch of games like Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Nova, GTA San Andreas and others.
So far everything is working fine. Ive had my Fire Phone for about a month now and it's really not a bad phone. It does everything I need it to.
The only issue I have noticed is that after I have been playing a high definition game for longer than 45 mins or so, the phone does start to get hot. But I just stop playing for a bit and it's fine.
Back to the original question though, yes ES File Explorer is now on the App store and working properly, and you can install just about any apk you can find.

DT2 ? Is it possible to sideload?

Hi Chaps....
Honestly didn't know where else to go for help on this one...
First off.... I've been happily playing DT2 with my amazon controller since I first got my Firetv box (non rooted) v 51.1.6.3,.... right up until today,... when i was met with "Please update your application with a new version" and I was quickly kicked back to the fire os screen. I tried contacting madfinger games but it seems they have dropped windows and Amazon support. Ages ago I had moved a lot of my apps to an sd card,... but due to DT2 writing to the card a lot it became corrupted... so i reinstalled it to the firetv box then moved it to the sd card, backed it up to my pc and then put it back on to the firetv. (hope your still with me).
I just wanted to know if it would be possible to sideload the latest version 2-1.2.0 onto the firetv box.
I really don't understand why they dropped support for amazon because it ran like a dream on my box. (also lost 2400 in gold as well).
I noticed that the original DT2 that i backed up was an apk that was just over 488mb in size,... but the new apk that i've downloaded is only 25mb. (I'm still in the process of downloading the OBB data files, although I don't know if they will be of much use.
Is this just a waste of time chaps or does anyone know if i can get this to work.
I'm okay with adb push pull, ect... so just need to know if it'll work.
really appreciate any help as playing a game on a tv is a hell of a lot better than burning my eye sockets out on a monitor.... lol
I have absolutely no idea how i done this, but i'll explain as best i can.
I uninstalled DT2,... luckily its still in the cloud if it all goes belly up. I then installed apps2fire on my phone and downloaded DT2.
I then sent the main apk to my firetv. (probably went wrong here) but i ran the apk.... DT2 started to run but then said that it needed to download some files (around 250mb) but failed with an error code of "Download Failed Because The Resources Could Not Be Found".
Unaware of what this meant i then managed to locate the obb files on my file and wrote down the name of the folder they were in.
using es file explorer i created the same named folder in the same place on the firetv.
I then created another folder called dt2 on the phone and moved the obb file into it. I then used apps2fire and located to obb file and sent it to the firetv. so far so good. next problem was "where was the obb file". I managed to locate it, but only after i changed the folder view in es file explorer. I then copied and pasted the obb into the folder i created ealier within the obb folder.
I then ran DT2 again, but this time is said that it required files from the google playstore. I had a choice for the software to download what it needed and I let it do it's thing.
This time when I ran DT2 it started playing the intro... I skipped all the first parts so that i could log back in with my own details.
This time the game ran but the images look different to the original firetv version. Don't get me wrong, they look great. plus the amazon controller works perfectly.
I then closed the game.
when I went to go back to play it, the icon said that there was an update available.... (I had already gone through this once before, and it never worked).. but this time it did. and the xmas version is now installed.
This was a rough way of doing things, but i did some google searches and used details from these sites... (hope i can post these)....
https://www.reddit.com/r/fireTV/comments/2g7cgy/how_would_i_go_about_sideloading_a_game_that_has/
http://www.aftvnews.com/sideload/
http://filehex.com/dead-trigger-2/
http://ouyaforum.com/showthread.php?8829-obb-files-and-dead-trigger-2
all of this was done legally using programs available on firetv and an android phone. no other apk's or obbs were used.
Hope this helps in some way,....
seems I was a little too quick to say it was working...... as soon as i went to play in a tournament the start button had become greyed out.
but the firetv game controller still worked and by pressing "B" i was about to back out of the locked screen.
Also the "there is an update available" has returned to the main dt2 icon, but it always fails right at the very end of the loading bar.
I managed to play the game for about an hour and then tried the tournament since then its been very buggy.
Would it be anything to do with google play services chaps?
